What's new

India v England | 1st Test | Rajkot | Nov 9-13, 2016 | Day 4

What a rubbish shot to play by Ashwin.

That's why he gets out on 30s so much.

Lucky he didn't get the bat on.

Good shot by Saha.

And now Saha out.

Have to equal scores no matter what cos this pitch is no landmine though there is slow turn and odd dangerous deliveries.

Or else too much pressure on our bowlers. Its hard to dismiss a side for 150 here.

India 101 behind.

Damm Jadeja out. India need to get close as possible to England's score. England need at least a 60 run lead.

Watching Rashid bowl first time here, much improved consistency in his action. Saqlain's done some really good work.

I'd love for India to get out for 470, leaving England 35 overs to bat tonight.

Then I hope they bowl us out around lunchtime for 200 in 65 overs.

We would never dare declare with a lead of 265, but we would set India 265 in 55 overs, which would be great!

India 462/9 (156.6 ov)
India trail by 75 runs with 1 wicket remaining in the 1st innings
Mohammed Shami 2 (5)
Ravichandran Ashwin 50 (111)

India 487/9 (160.3 ov)
India trail by 50 runs with 1 wicket remaining in the 1st innings
Ravichandran Ashwin (rhb) 69 (131)
Mohammed Shami (rhb) 8 (7)

There are field restrictions and Batsmen cant hoick around with eyes closed. It's a 4th day pitch and scoring at close to 4 runs an over aint easy. England would be wary of the fact that things can turn quickly in India and they wont like to lose wickets quickly in pursuit of quick runs.

Incredible knock really by Ash considering the context and the way he took over hitting in the end.

Too bad it ended that way. Could have not gone for that 6.

Loved the way he handled the partnership with Shami. Should have done the same with Umesh. But I guess he was waiting to get his 50

Can anybody see anything other than a draw here?

Even when we went to England in 2014 the first pitch at Trent Bridge was 'safe' and tailor-made for a draw.

Comes with the territory of 5 test series I guess.

Hopefully that innings gives Ashwin the confidence to get his rhythm with the ball. A couple of early wickets will set this match up nicely.

Cant blame the curators much. It was a decent pitch. A tiny bit more for the bowlers would have been better.

But we dont get to see such pitches very often in India.

Indian bowlers bowled about 160 overs, while English bowlers had to bowl about 162 overs. The fact that England had 6 bowlers to share the load is a big plus in such conditions. India went with 5 bowlers but Mishra bowled poorly and hence was underbowled, while Ashwin had to bowl 46 overs, which means a lot of strain on those fingers and shoulders. Hope Indian team management is sensible enough to give him a break for a test and not overburden him.

Yeah...

I guess at that time he thought Umesh attacking was more likey way to get runs.

Last wicket forced him to take the mantle and he did a surprisingly good job of it.

Blame lies with India for dropping so many catches. Had they taken those they would have been able to restrict England to about 400. This score would have seen match winning then.

We need a couple of wickets. That might force England into a shell.

Thats the only way to enforce a result. If England bat normally, the game will be a draw, or India might have to bat 50 odd overs to save the game.

England are motoring along. Ashwin & Jadeja unable to exert any control. Looks a bit ominous for India. Could be a tricky 60 overs to bat out tomorrow.

Ball will turn as it gets old.

Its a slow turn track mate.

I kept saying it even during our batting.

Bowling out Eng cheaply will be hard.

Yep....Ash beautifully bowled this over.

Needs to get it slightly right in certain balls.

If he locks this in.....maybe something might happen.

Cringeworthy pitch.

Rajkot should never host a test again.

Both teams batsmen impoving their averages.

Come on England. The pitch is misbehaving a bit.

A 180-200 run lead by tonight and then set them 300 to win in 2 sessions.

We could still win this.

3 too full balls by Ashwin....

If you bowl like this anywhere, you won't get any purchase.

Now Hameed gets beaten.

Every good length ball got English bats in a tangle.

England doing it well here. Rotating the strike nicely and not letting the spinners settle. This is going to be a very tight series.

Good and bad balls mixed in.

Horrible bowling.

The last ball Cook edged and fell short of slip.

Next ball short and pulled for 4.

Mediocre bowling. We've let the game slip.

But England have batted well, especially Hameed.

There was no need to take off spinners.

Needed to give them a few more overs to see if they got it right.

Maybe Kohli is trying to slow the game down.

Can't believe how bad we have bowled. Every good ball troubled English bats but we didn't bowl enough of that.

England are out of danger now. Pressure will be on India tomorrow but draw looks the overwhelming favorite

This match is either hurtling towards a draw or an Indian lollapse. Ashwin n jaddu looking toothless, give Mishra the ball.

Pretty average bowling this.

They are not bowling consistently in the good areas to trouble the English batsmen.

Hameed has looked the part on debut. The temperament he has shown that too as a 19 year old has been nothing short of amazing. Bright future ahead for the kid expect big things for him

What a find for England in Haseeb Hameed. Impressive player of spin. A treat to watch him against spin.

What a rubbish review.

The moment Ashwin gets it right, he is creating all sorts of problems.

Decent over. Let's see if he maintains this or bowls like a gully level hack.

The Game seems to be heading for a draw. What is the pitch like now?
