I'm amazed at the reasoning of some Indian fans who believe that Bumrah shouldn't come to bat because he'll get "injured".

Just astonishing. It's like Indian fans would rather lose Test matches then see Bumrah go through tough period.
They know that they are FINISHED without him

SA should bat again and bat India completely out of the game and series

Haha this is hilarious, getting bundled out for less than 200 on a flat track, unable to score against fast men, nor the spinners.
May be India should stop playing at home

Batting again suggests South Africa want to play it safe. No way the Indian team would have come back from this. This at least gives India some chance to draw the game.

I wouldn’t take a risk with Jaiswal

He can turn a game on its head in 3 sessions of batting. You never know with Pant as well.

Might as well have 500 to bowl at and take it from there

This also ensures that India doesn't win. If India bats through the last innings. Then fair enough the match ends in a draw.

This decision has ensured that South Africa win the series no matter what

Yeah as i said its the safer option and South Africa won't risk a historic series win. I rate Jaiswal as the best young talent in the game but still don't see India coming back from this. Third and fourth innings performances are as much about skill as mental state and toughness and I don't think India are in a winning or even fighting state of mind at the moment. But its an understandable decision.

Why doesn't Esawaran get a chance? He has been around the team for so long without getting a game.
This is a strange one. If KL is not keeping then why is he still in the side as an opener? surely there are better openers, more deserving than him.

Alot of times these days we see teams perform better with a 'nothing to lose' mindset in the second innings. And as a result your bowlers get burnt out, and the batters get tired fielding all day.

When the pitch is good to bat on and there's plenty of time left in the test match, batting again is the smarter choice, even if it might not feel like the attacking choice.

new poll added guys!

Was it the right decision by South Africa to not ask India to follow on in the 2nd Test?

Good decision to bat again.

Bat deep to tire out the opposition, and when the umpire is not looking try to scuff up the pitch for more footmarks for Harmer and Maharaj to bowl in the final innings
:afridi

Gambhir destroying Indian cricket like anything. Haven't seen a single Sanghi helping Indians in any profession though. Their PM is prime example !

Most of the team is LOI/T20 based. Imo, for home games India should play a conventional 5/1/1/4 kind of team. My ideal team would be

Esawaran, Jaiswal,
Gill,
Two of Patidar/Gaikwad/Tilak/Nair
Pant/Jurel
Jadeja/Sundar
Shami
Bumrah
Kuldeep
Siraj/spinner

If they are worried about batting depth they can play both Jadeja and Sundar at the expense of the 4th bowler.

Is Shami injured?

Indian batsmen have taken their T20 success too seriously.

Playing test cricket like T20 too :afridi
Usually we are playing well (applying well) in overseas tests, perhaps due to the presence of utility players... But at home we are lacking specialists to dominate the opposition... It is not that they are playing like T20, it is because they lack the test skills...

Could be another white wash defeat for India like the NZ series 🤣🤣
Without any doubt, this is game and series is done! But this victory for South Africa is diluted in front of NZ triumph! Not sure why South Africa settle for just 2 tests with Asian sides... Because even Sri Lanka also whitewashed South Africa (in South Africa) 2-0 but this triumph is not popular... So just 2 test matches is a kind of dilution...

Sad reality

We might have to just have separate coaches for tests and LoI

Gambir is a clueless midget. Actual bauna

And then just select based on Ranji/ A tours

Not just pack with ARa lol

First thing get rid of Rahul, even jaiswal should be threatened about his position, drop sudarshan from all formats(ipl player what is he doing in the team my god. Averages 39 in ranji too), Nitish only for sena as a bowling option who can bat, not here etc. so many selections.

We had peak shami and umesh running through teams at home.

We need one of gurnoor or Prasidh etc to come in for home conditions. As they have a good record in A tour. Not play siraj. Keep siraj only for sena

Or get Arshdeep for home conditions as well.

Oh, so I was not here when India won the Asia Cup? Then who was typing my posts here, your 'dur ka phupha'? :rabada2

Also, if I talk to you in the same tone, mods will edit or delete my post but they happily let trash cans like you say anything. If I call someone 'bhagoda' or use the word 'tashreef' they will immediately edit it. Let's see what they are going to do now. @BouncerGuy @The Bald Eagle @Cricket Warrior

Aur waise main jis Missu ki baat kar raha tha woh Mesozoic hai, tu khaam kha udta teer apni tashreef mein le leta hai. You are not that relevant. Learn to write first. :misbah :inti

I don't think Siraj is a bad bowler even for home conditions. His trademark scrambled seam delivery is something that probably has the most usefulness on slower pitches. Infact I would prefer him over Prasidh who has the tendency to go for runs and relies too much on the ball swinging. Arshdeep is someone who could be good if given chances. And he brings something different being a left-armer too.

But the batting line-up is just poorly thought out. The very fact that the No. 3 position is in constant flux sums up India's batting issues. India should back domestic performers rather than players they think have talent. Why is Sai Sudharshan in the side, let alone batting at 3? Getting enamored by someone because they played well in IPL/T20 is Pakistani selector level thinking.

Some people may not like to hear this but Karun Nair deserves to be in the playing XI. As does Sarfaraz. These are guys who have scored runs in domestic cricket consistently. And can probably add more value at home than players like Sudharsan or Paddikal or some all-rounder like Washington Sundar batting at the top of the order.

Pakistan I think would beat this India in Asian conditions

If india wants to win test matches they should drop bumrah..
Would agree but first test should have been easily won by India

He did bowl well there. Today he was not good.

Blame the at phattu kl rahul
He dropped 2 catches off bumrah already.

Not Karun man

But tilak varma
Badoni
Guys like them
Yea sarfraz but he was poor in ranji so dint get picked.

Indian fans were acting all arrogant last year.

It is great to see India's Test decline. Hopefully they will continue to decline until they learn humility. :inti

Wow in my lifetime this will be our worst two years at home in domestic cricket.

I don't think it will get any better because modern day Indian players are mostly T20 hacks.

After Kohli, Rohit, Pujara, and Ashwin retired, Indian decline was only a matter of time.

After Bumrah, Siraj, and Kuldeep retire, they may sink even further in Test. :inti

Probably the Indian coach

I don't think any other coach would've made a difference. :inti

India without Rohit, Kohli, Pujara, and Ashwin are always likely to struggle. Replacements aren't as good.

Once Bumrah, Siraj, and Kuldeep retire, things are likely to become worse. :dav

P.S., Pant is a hack.

Yeah I have been hearing that since Dravid, Sachin , Kumble..

If you think Indian domestics is like Pak or BD domestic cricket that’s upto you

Yeah I have been hearing that since Dravid, Sachin , Kumble..

You can bury your hands in the sand but that's the fact. :inti

After Dravid-Sachin era, quality players were still coming because T20 wasn't big then.

Compare the new players now with new players from that era.

That’s an opinion not a fact.. Facts are if you present Indian domestic cricket stats(facts) and present that there are no Indian cricketers ready for Test team.. (opinion based on those facts)

Right now you have done none but sure i can bury my head in the sand

Well this was the strategy of the former coach yesterday

You can say that Gambhir probably executed this strategy but in a morw aggressive way.

Would SA be able to beat India 2-0 or 1-0 if not for test series against Pak, which was resurrected for them due to Rabadda's valiant batting. India did not even get to bowl or bat against him!

I don't think it has anything to do with coach. Coach doesn't play in the middle.

This Indian team simply don't have the same quality as previous Indian team (that had Rohit, Kohli, Pujara etc.).

Quality is lacking currently.

They may decline further once Siraj, Kuldeep, and Bumrah retire.

Indian limited over team vs test team 2 side of coin one is reaching new heights while other is hitting new low .If India fail to win this test India need to find new head coach for test team

I know Nair is not a long-term option but it feels strange to me that he was dropped completely after a few failures but Sudharsan was persisted with eventhough the former has worked much harder in domestic cricket

India should go for split coaches for white-ball and red-ball. Why was Gambhir made head-coach in test any way? All the success he has achieved as coach has been coaching T20 franchises in IPL.
