Suraj Randiv is apparently a Muslim,he was born - Mohamed Marshuk Mohamed Suraj

But he has changed his name to Hewa Kaluhalamullage Suraj Randiv Kaluhalamulla.

You mean he too converted to Buddhism like Dilshan?

India getting into strong position ....

Gambhir looking very dangerous ...

Looks like the "young guns" will engineer this victory for India.

I wonder why Sanga is holding Murali back.. Bowling changes by Sanga really baffle me sometimes.. Give your premier bowler enough runs to play with at least..

Indians are pretty good against spin and I think holding Murali back for too long might turn out to be a fatal mistake..

You mean he too converted to Buddhism like Dilshan?

Yes this article says he converted when he was 16.

Suraj Randiv, the 26-year-old all-rounder, who made his Test debut against India yesterday at the Sinhalese Sports Club ground, is one of the few cricketers who have changed their names. Suraj Randiv was previously known as Mohamed Marshuk Mohamed Suraj, but he changed his name in 2009. A few other instances of famous conversions are: Tillakaratne Dilshan converted from Islam to Buddhism at an early age of 16. Prior to his conversion to Islam in 2005, Mohammad Yousuf (Yousuf Youhana at that time) was one of the few Christians to play for the Pakistan cricket team.

"After marrying me (on May 21 last year), he decided to change his name," Randiv's wife, Jeevani said from Colombo. "He got converted from Islam to Buddhism. I was very happy to learn that he has been selected in the playing eleven," added Jeevani.

Interestingly, Randiv was a fast bowler at the junior level. But when his school found that they had no spinner in their under-15 side, the coach requested him to switch over to bowling offbreaks. Starting as a part-time bowler, he was soon picking up wickets on a regular basis and started representing Matara Sports Club while still at school.

Last 8 overs have yielded 55 runs for India. SL need to tighten things up and pickup up at least one wicket very soon.

thats why we need to groom young players instead of moyo, yk, misbah, razzaq, shoaib akhtar in limited overs
like fawad, shahzaib, sarfaraz, hammad, junaid

Am I right in thinking Gambhir once won a match almost single handedly against Sri Lanka with a 150. Or was it New Zealand?

What a dive !

Wow,that must be painful, torso scraping against the dry pitch !

A much needed 50 from Gauti, can he make it big?

Congrats boy, but please stay there for some time :)

Bounce and Turn for Randhiv (as Ravibot is saying)

Danger bowler for our batters

Indians are playing very sensibly at the moment!.. atta boys! keep up the good work.. just hold on to wickets and don't do anything rash.. plenty of runs coming in the gaps... so no rush at all.

brain ALWAYS beats brawn.

Sri Lanka are fielding like a bunch of amateurs they are giving the final away with all these sloppiness.

:four

Sri Lanka leaking too many runs here, need a couple of quick wickets desperately.

wow. Just what is wrong with SL fielding today. They have been abysmal. Worst i have ever seen from them

SL have fielded extremely poorly - one or two good saves but apart from that well below the standard they normally set.

Last 10 overs, India has scored 64 runs; compared to 41 runs in the first 10.

Yaar kya kar rahay hain ! Sri lanka should keep attacking! Wicket lo yaaar bohot runs bananey hain!

IND 109-2 | 21 overs

Match is slipping away from Sri Lanka :(

awful captaincy. i thought afridi was doing a bad job but persisting with perera and kulasekara was a terrible ployy

India needs to remember it is No. 1 in test cricket... and such teams are expected to have the best temperament.....and they need to remember that temperament is EVERYTHING at this stage.. singles are coming easily... keep going at it.. hold on to wickets..

Kohli is struggling to get past that leg side fielder

Beautiful shot offside for 4 from Kohli

run rate kept under control despite losing 2 wickets!

meanwhile .. another four !
