Another run heavy test series starts. Why the f can't BCCI prepare some lively tracks?

No wonder there's nobody at the stadium. If the batting team is gonna stay put the whole day and make tons of runs, they might as well come to the stadium when their team is batting.

Is Ishant injured? Who'll take the 2nd new ball? India have 2 seamers only.

lol at some of the pro-Australia comments no this thread. What a difference a month makes eh?

Hussey struggles against off-spin. Tough times for him. Needs to at least get a single.

Don't wanna jinx him but Watson's footwork has been very positive today to the spinners.

Cricindia "Watson stands in way of India". I would suggest the Indian bowlers stands in the way of India.

Seems game has gone into stale mate. Will India take new ball straight away when its available?

Taking 193 balls for fourth fifty for Australia.

Its a long time.

Ojha has looked about two thousand times better than Harby today.

Australia adopted the wrong tactics today. Really should've attacked the spinners, India dictated terms (despite not being on top) for the whole day. Now North (tailender) is in, with only T-Pain and the bowlers to come.

Brilliant ball from zaheer!! north gone excetional reverse swing bowling here

Aussies go slow really hasnt helped them gain much of a upper hand here at all.

222/4 - At moment you would say India are slightly on top and would be happy to have taken 4/5 wickets by end of the day without conceeding runs to quickly!

Tailender goes.

Australia dug a hole for themselves today and are now sitting in it.

Zaheer is certainly tilting the Days play towards India now!

This proves these mistakes happen i think 3 drop catches many no balls, is this not spot fixing??????

the drop of ojha was tough chance was a very big deviation!
and dhoni being worse then akmal??? u on drugs???:asif

No. Both regulation, both dropped. Why is Dhoni immune from criticism ? :fawad

akmal has a reputation of dropping a catch every match! and this is the first time i seen dhoni drop a sitter!
Moment a keeper drops a catch or a bowler balls badly for a few matches, he gets compared to akmal or sami! this is not criticism this stupidism!:inti

If India could nip out Watson as well then they will fancy their chances of Polishing off the Aussies early tomorrow morning!

Actually Dhoni's dropped a couple of dolly ones in the last 2 test series. Don't know what's wrong with him?

Hope for the tests hereafter, the Dhoni will select some pacer who can last atleast a couple of days, leave alone 5 days. they should have picked up Midhun or Munaf.

Should have taken the one off Ojha, I think he got up too early
Didn't see the other one, is the the one off Zak people are talking about?
I heard the batsman didn't even nick that

Cricinfo
Khan to Paine, no run, 135.5 kph, another corker from Zaheer who has bowled like a champ today. Darts in to the corridor outside off and straightens, leaving Watson who has been there all day for a ton looking clueless. He does not get an edge outside off

Yorker? :)))

There was a faint edge. If he hadn't edged it, he would probably have been bowled.

No, corker means a good ball. :aamer

Ishant and North have no business playing international cricket.

there was a faint edge! replays confirmed it

oh ok, just going by what I had heard.
Did it look out live, something the umpire would have given?

Appeal was natural! the slip corden and bowler went up straightaway! paine looked behind the stumps as soon as he edged it! it was definetly out! and i think the umpire would have given that!

I was right about my prediction as watson being main threat.
Aus played pretty slow to my surprise- 224/5 on 90 overs is unlike them. Overall an interesting point where first day ended. Slight advantage to india by now, hope to get watto early.

a good day for team india, zak bowl well.
ojha bowl in tight line and length.

Australia 224/5 (90.0 ov) Stumps Day 1

Shane Watson 101 not out

Tim Paine 1 not out

This is like seeing Pakistan trying to play technique conscious cricket.

Defensive cricket is just not Australian cricket.

Good start by Aussies spoiled by some poor batting in the middle - still Watson is there and he needs to go on and get a big ton

I think anything below 400 on this track is an average score

Australia now know their limitations.. they don't have the fire power to attack the oppositions any more... at least by playing like this they can draw the match. look at the pitch map of Ohja, nothing much can be done.

Another sparsely attended day of Test cricket in Mohali. India has plenty of venues that still get decent crowds for Test cricket, yet presumably for political reasons Mohali keeps being given Test matches. I'm not 100% certain of this, but would wager that Mohali must have hosted more Tests over the last 10 years than any other Indian ground.

Yeh it looks political. Eden Gardens has the best crowd and yet rarely gets a test match these days. While Mohali is played too regularly. IS Bindra must have something on the others

Bindra made Mohali the most profitable ground in India, apparently. If thats the ground which brings in the most revenue, (I don't know how given that the stadium is pretty much empty), then you can see why the BCCI uses it so much.

Venues like Mohali , Nagpur, Ahmedabad should be banned from hosting Test Matches. WIth no crowd in the stands, its so boring to watch. Have more tests at Mumbai(At both Wankhede and Brabourne stadiums), Kolkata (Eden), Chennai and Bangalore. Even a test vs Bangladesh will see decent crowds at those venues because the people there love to watch test cricket.

Leave the shorter formats for the Mohali, Nagpurs and Ahmedabads.

Hopefully when India bat, there will be more people watching from the stands.

On the day's play, wonder what the Aussie tactics were. Punter goes and they shut shop 45 overs too early in the day!! This could cost them. On the other hand, had Dhoni pouched that chance of Paine, we could well have cleaned up a few more with Zaheer bowling some lovely reverse swing. One missed chance of Watson has already cost 100+ runs, god knows how much will this drop cost us.

The pitch is getting slower and lower and batting will keep getting difficult on this track.

Yeh personally I would have banned Eden Gardens after that infamous 1996 semifinal...most shameful thing I've seen at a ground by a long shot. It wasn't just a couple of miscreants, it was the bulk of the crowd which made it so sickening

Actually Bindra does not even get along with the present BCCI thugs. Got booted out of the IPL governing council recently as he was supporting Modi.
