Both teams desperately need to win to regain confidence ahead of the World Cup.

Who can do it?

Clint: "Are you sure Rohit is out due to a sore hamstring or is he attending an English lesson?" cricinfo :kohli

Overcast conditions. Bouncy pitch of Gabba. Normally the ball swings at Gabba, and with overcast conditions it will swing more. Needless to say tailor-made pitch for clouderson Say Bye Bye to kohli's Batting form.

Less than 150 score from india is expected

There are two parts to answer your response there:

1) IK had some tremendous success. So did many of the great players of the time too. For instance, there was always a running unspoken "challenge" between top bowlers of who would take 8 plus wickets in 1980s. Folks who have lived in that era would recall this. Hadlee took 9 wickets twice (I think), Kapil did once, Imran and Botham never, Marshall would quib how there was no ways in hell WI bowlers could take those many wickets thanks to 4 bowler attack. My point here is simply that even in bowling, which was Imran's strongest suite, he was hardly thought of world beater back then. Definitely in top 3 but hardly the very best. In terms of batting he was left far behind.

Leading from the front is always double-edged I think. Ian Botham's best exploits came under Mike Brearely. Is that Botham's credit or Brearely's? Hadlee did so under Howarth and Crowe, he was hardly bothered. Kapil had 50-50 record. Not to be dismissive here at all. But is leading from the front the deal breaker? How so?

2) The success of Pakistan during IK's era is often laid at IK when it was hardly due to him. People just confuse end result with it being thanks to Imran. When Javed Miandad hit Sharma for six Imran had no role in that at all. You may even blame him for having a poor game that one making Miandad do all the dirty work. Same when Manzoor Ilahi smoke sixes and won game against India, or Salim Malik. Even Mudassar Nazar took a fiver in England and won Pakistan game. (for the record Mudassar was quite well respected in India back in 80s, he has quite a cricketing brain on him)

Point being, Pakistan's support cast helped them achieve a lot of glory, oddly enough they all got routed to Imran in some shape or form. I think, could be wrong of course

CI says India won the toss and elected to bat? Bhuvi was a good bet for these conditions why Dhoni is batting first

It is an inconsequential series, and India looking to work on their weakspot i.e. setting a target and defending it. We are good chasing so may be we are practicising how to defend a target. Another thing is on pitches like Gabba the ball tends to swing more later under the lights, sharp contrast to pitches in subcontinents which turn to batting paradise because of dew.

As predicted by many Indian fans, Dhawan is useless in these conditions. Has made zero attempt to adjust his technique and so far, this tour is an epic fail for him.

Dhawan will score big in the next game, you can just feel that he is one game away from scoring a big one.

I am saying it first here- that England will be a team to beat in world cup. Their bowlers are very unfortunate that pitches they use to get in tests are polar opposites to what they get in odis in England. In odis they get pitches which are flat, low bounce, with very gentle seam movement. Adding to their woes, those pitches are more spin - friendly rather than seam-friendly.It is the lack of bounce, that actually make their tall bowlers ineffective there. On pitches like Gabba with swing and more importantly bounce, they will be too hot to handle.

Binny might to well in this pitch. You need a length and line trundler in this pitch.

What's happened to Crapwan? Out already?

So ironic that he actually lives here too eh

Has Ian Healy started commentating yet? Who's he cheering for with OZ not playing?

Hottest question of the day, guys tell me Who is better batsman among Dhawan and Rayudu?

Raydu and Dhawan are such poor players. Don't know how Dhawan manages to stick on.

Both are legends of cricket.
They average around 45 and score daddy hundreds chasing big scores. Dhawan does it so regularly, Rayudu is new.

Rahane's shot making is so similar to what Sachin used to be. No T20 bs, no slogs, all class.

This Rayudu is such a poor batsman. such an eyesore. Pathetic from selectors to pick him. I can name atleast 10 batsmen who are not in team but comfotably better than him.

Rayudu 12 (33)!
Murali Vijay bats faster than in tests. Cant we have Vijay/Uthappa instead of Hackadu in our squad!

give him a break. He just played out a tough period when the quicker scoring Dhawan perished in a couple of balls. He is an eyesore but gets the job done.

Hackwan and Now Hackudu  Don't we have any better batsman than these two.

Rahane  bound to happen, when we have such a pathetic player on the other side

Stepping down, throwing his bat around.. looks like Raydu doesn't know any other way of scoring.

Rahane is such a class batsman in tests but just want to score from every ball in Odis

Is it just me or is the Indian batting not looking as dangerous as an Indian batting should look like? Dhawan is a hack, Rohit is inconsistent while Rahane isn't half the batsman he is in tests with a coloured shirt on. A lot rests on Kohli and Dhoni, with Raina being the other main contributor.
