India vs Sri Lanka | Match 5 | CB Series | Canberra | 12/2/2008

ghambir/sharma partnership killed india.

both were batting too selfishly and slowly.

only when dhoni came in did india start to get a move on.

Jaya showed glimpses of his brutality today.. That trademark pick up shot was awesome.. Only experienced bowlers would know where NOT to bowl to Jayasuriya.

By the way no match thread for Eng/NZ? NZ raped England.. reaching 165 in 18 overs..

So true what a thrashing for england!

Good win for sri lanka, shocked to see dilshan open the inns but he did well.

This sets up series nicely with each side having a win a piece, rohit sharma enhancing his reputation again with the bat!

whatever happened to all the england fans here ?

IIRC there were a handful of them..

at that point it was a 30over match, not 20.

Fairly convincing win in the end. India bit of unlucky. But choker team like South Africa would mess up even a total of 154 in 21 overs. SL didn't do that. They won it with clinical precision. Congrats. It is a good learning experience for the young Indians.

Yeah i don't know what happened to them
Rob H has totally disappeard while Whippy and everton fan only show up once in a while. Big Harvery and Augustus are the only regular English posters now.

no sh1t ?

they were still batting to slow ...

they were going chugging along at about 5 RPO with 8 wickets in hand in a 29 over match ...

india always goes slow in the mid of its innings saving wickets for the end.

im sure the captain of a t20 wc winning side would know better how to make his team mates pace their innings than a poster on a forum. that is ofcourse my personal opinion :)

if the match remained a 29 over affair, it would have been much tighter, but the rains completely ruined the fun.

For once I agree with you, what is more puzzling is Indian fielding looks much worst than when Dravid, Laxman and Ganguly were around :|

Nope totally disagree, that Sreesanth over spelt doom for India, I reckon Sri Lankas would have cruised to victory regardless either way..

Congrats to Lankans, particularly Dilshan for his brilliant performance :14: :14: :14: :19: !!! Indians batted well but their bowling was below par. So the CB series is wide and open :27: .

sreesanth's spell literally cost us the match,,wonder why dhoni persisted with him...he was getting hammered frm the very first over..

dhoni had limited options after the rains. guys like pathan would have got hammered as well. atleast with sreesanth theres a chance he'd come back in his second over. which he obviously could not.

First of all India needs to sort out that batting order, now it is all over the place. Move Sehway down and Open with Uthappa and have Yuvraj coming in at 3 and if he fails drop him plain and simple and get Tiwary in there...

yeah if Uthappa is going to bat at #7 then it might be a better idea to play some one like Yusuf Pathan instead.

So true :14: . He is class Uthappa he needs a chance I hope we open him soon.

great win for the lankans! Even if we lost I'm glad to see Jaya get some runs...the man is a gem. I still think we'll knock over the aussies on saturday, especially with Sreesanth being taught a lesson. He's a fighter and he'll come back strong.

If he can up his pace (his highest speed is 148.8) we can have potentially 2 150+ kph bowlers opening together!! who woulda thought...

I sincerely hope so, because today's game was crap! At least against Australia, India puts up a better show.

Rohit Sharma needs to be told that he is NOT the only batsman in the side. Such selfish play from him??!! Making sure he makes a 50 even if 3 batsmen have to sit idle in the dressing room.

Pathetic bowling from big mouth Shrieksant
Clueless captaincy from Dhoni who made Sachin and Sehwag bowl one too many. Pick 5 bowlers next time for pete's sake!
Lazy fielding

Very, very disappointing to see such inconsistency time and again. :pissed:

dude 194 of 29 was good target , but 155 of 21 was just too easy .....we shud have stil won that ,but all SL needed was one good partenership which they got right at the begining & we had no chance from then on !

Good win by the Sri Lankans, Jayasuria showing what he still can do.

This series is wide open, hopefully India can come back hard in the next match.

most ppl din give us a chance to win a single match before the start of series...I think for a young and inexperienced side like this , we have done well enuf ........consistent , they will not be atlease for some time ....need to be happy with patches of brilliance untill every one in the side has played atlest 20 games !

Intresting stat that Sreesanth has bowled 50 odd deliveries against Jayasuriya and conceeded 84 runs on head to head... seems like Jaya enjoys spanking sreesanth!

Sri Lankan team deservedly won - and they are better than the Indian team on the current strength of the players and experience.

When reduced to 21 overs, the match became a lottery. Jayasuriya's initial plunder made that lottery a steal.

Two things let India down:

1. Atleast 20-30 runs off target. Rohit especially wasted way too much time for a 29 over game.

2. Fielding where Sri Lanka were outstanding while India were below average. A couple of run-outs went begging.

Well played Lankans.

Cb series is wide open now.. but i bet all my property.. that Australia will be one of the finalist. It is going to be a virtual semi final clash between sl and India from now on.

Sreesanth shouldnt worry about worrying the aussies....he should worry that Jayasuriya has arrived!!!

Well Done Sri Lanka on your awesome win :14: I want them to win this CB series :D

rohit should make way for yuvraj

LOL surely you are kidding

Was Yuvi playing and was he "aggressive with his body language'? :D

Edit: I see he did play and made no runs again. What a pathetic tour from a supposed class batsman, has he made more than 10 runs in any innings?

Failed in every Test, failed in the warm up game, failed in every ODI so far.

You could make an argument that he cost India the Test series too - if they had gone with Sehwag instead of making Dravid open so the "great aggressor" could play, who knows?

This is going close to the worst effort from a touring batsman in Australia ever. I am struggling to think of worse.

Maybe one of the West Indian jokers like Morton?

no ... what's evident is that u clowns can't take any criticism of ur team ..

btw .. the whole stars commentary team shared my views !

Don't know if he toured with them last time.

Memorable efforts have been Agit Agarkar & Ramnaresh Sarwan of recent times. Graeme Smith was pretty poor too but he at least got past ten.

That's the whole problem - being happy with flashes of brilliance now and then...why???
If they can bowl well against Aus, why not against SL? It doesnt require brilliance to not give away too many extras, to score faster with wkts in hand, to drop Yuvraj and take an extra bowler....we might have still lost, or we might have put Lankans under some pressure.

Hmmmm :22: ........ Anyway, I still hope and am quite sure Yuvraj can bounce back at any time :19: .
