Few hours after India thrashed Pakistan in their Group A clash of the Asia Cup, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) acting president CK Khanna on Wednesday expressed optimism that the Men in Blue will take revenge of their defeat at the Champions Trophy final in England last year by winning the ongoing tournament.

Talking to ANI, Khanna praised stand-in skipper Rohit Sharma and his team for clinching an impressive eight-wicket win over arch-rivals Pakistan.

"They have won by a huge margin. The way they have played today, I am sure they will win the Asia Cup and take the revenge of the Champions Trophy. This was a match-winning captaincy. We are happy with this big win."

Lauding the performance of bowlers and batsmen, Khanna added, "Bhuvneshwar bowled really well, Bumrah got able to support. The openers, especially Shikhar Dhawan continued his good form. All of them played well as a team."

Indian bowlers put up a sensational performance to bundle out the Pakistan side for 162 runs in 43.1 overs after the latter opted to bat first. Besides Babar Azam (47) and Shoaib Malik (43), none of the other Pakistani batsmen was able to contribute much to their side's innings.

In reply, India did not break much sweat and clinched the victory with 126 balls to spare. Rohit and Shikhar Dhawan gave a solid start to the Indian side as they notched up 52 and 46 runs respectively, besides also accumulating a collective 86 runs for the first wicket.

Subsequently, Ambati Raydu (31) and Dinesh Karthik (31) remained unbeaten at the crease to drive the team towards the victory with 126 balls to spare.

Following the victory, fans across the country also celebrated by bursting crackers and distributing sweets.

A fan said, "We are very happy with this win. Our batsmen and bowlers clicked together. We are hopeful that our boys will continue their good performance and win the Asia Cup."

Another fan echoed similar sentiments and said, "Our bowlers restricted Pakistan to a very less total. We were confident that India will win this match. India-Pakistan matches are very good. Everyone likes to see such games. Hope this team plays well in the semifinals and Asia Cup will definitely come to India."

India, who have finished at the top spot in Group A, will now lock horns with Bangladesh in the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup at the Dubai International Stadium on September 21.

As an Indian, I would say Mr. Khanna's is too optimistic.

Though the scoreboard says that India defeated Pakistan comprehensively, it would be foolish to think Pakistan could not win one or both of the next two games.

ODIs between these two countries are quite volatile. It could easily have been that Fakhar's catch could have gone somewhere where there was no fielder, and he went on to score a fast century. Or Sarfaraz's catch was bit more to the legside and it went for a six. While the Indian batting looked very solid, it could have been quite a different story if Pakistan put up a reasonable total and there was scoreboard pressure (as happened in the CT final).

So while I do think India is favored to win, it would be foolish to think that Pakistan doesn't have a decent chance.

Can't believe the president of BCCI will make such stupid comment when the tournament is still going on. I feel he should be thrown out with immediate effect. These sort of people cannot hold high posts in organisations.

And Indian fans used to say "We'd rather have ICC trophies than Kitply Cups"....

So after all lying low, one win and all the big talk has started? There's a difference between anonymous Indians trolling online and public figures being buffoons.

What's next. Rishi Kapoor to wake up again?

It's interesting he mentions captaincy though. I hope this is a topic that's being discussed as I don't see India winning too many ODI trophies under Kohli. He is our best batsman by a distance but needs to give up captaincy.

Good to see Indians laying into this chest-thumping from somebody whose post demands him to be a lot more measured and dignified than this. Puts unnecessary pressure on India and might become an additional motivational factor for Pakistan to do well.

Im glad Pakistan choked here rather than the next matches which are a lot more important.

This could be the kick in the backside they need.

Shameful comments. What kind of a buffoon talks about revenge in sports? Keep him away from media if he can't even properly express his views. You are a board president for god's sake. Behave and talk like that.

CoA has picked the worst guys to be in charge of Indian cricket who are nothing more than puppets with zero contribution to Indian cricket. Each such statement only adds to the perception.

Hyping up a tournament not worthy of anyone's 10 minutes. I would rather watch RCB Vs CSK.

Pathetic from this man. Please zip it and stop bragging and posturing. This is a mediocre Indian team thanks to the BCCI's love for oldies and TTF's.

That's all I came here to say. Will prefer RCB vs csk over this.

Dont remind me about stupid RCB :rahi

supported them to see AB win something, and was heavily dissapointed :ssmith

On topic, both India and Paksitani fans are same... one win... we r invincible, one loss... we are useless.. rinse repeat...

C K Khanna is an imbecile. Along with Arun Jaitley, he has destroyed Delhi cricket forever. Now the next target is the bigger fish, Indian cricket.

What ? How will u take revenge of CT by winning a nothing tournament outside of Asia.

You can't compare a top 8 tournament to a tournament where only Pak and Ind are good enough.

Speaking about Jaitley, just can't fathom how could one go scot-free despite indulging in so much corruption whilst being DDCA chief.

Oh, I forgot! BJP wallahs are all saints, they can't be corrupt!

This comment by C K Khanna isn't too far behind from Ijaz Butt's comment about big-3 in stupidity stakes!

Liar. Indian fans bragging is always based on a prolonged period of success, not one fluke.

Never heard of him until now. As an office bearer, he should keep his opinions to himself. Also, he is logically wrong... don’t see Pak losing again.

It is BCCI's acting president so whatever he says matters. What armchair critics and keyboard warriors think here doesn't make any difference to India or BCCI. Am I right cricketjoshila ? :bhajji

Also its good to see BCCI cares about Asia Cup and looking at it as an opportunity to take revenge of Champions Trophy final. :inti

Should have said World Cup and he would be taken more seriously.

World cup Final 2019.

Simpleton, how do these morons get to head powerful bodies in India?

Well, we're in the age of Trump.

Speak your heart out and get away with it.

I like it, blows the usual PR fluff out of the water anyday.

Small time mentality. These sort of comments are usually what Pakistani media makes after losing a match to India. Seems like "revenge" is a favorite word in both Pakistan and India.

And how can you take revenge of CT 2017 by winning the Asia Cup?? It's like saying Pakistan took the revenge of 99 world cup final loss to Australia by winning the Tri series in Zimbabwe.

Indian administrators competing with their Pakistani counterparts in a domain which was mostly Pakistani till now!

I thought our media was the only over the top stakeholder in things related to cricket (some moronic fans too no doubt). Looks like they all have competition from an unexpected source. Not a good development at all.

He has belief in his team - so why cant he say that?

Seems as they are playing only against pakistan LOL.

They don't represent public view. The Indian fans are looking forward to the Bangladesh game because India-Bangladesh have developed an interesting rivalry since the 2015 WC QF, even the recent Nidahas final was a blockbuster. Match against Afghanistan too will be interesting, we have seen Rashid-Mujeeb do wonders in IPL and are eager to see how we tackle their middle overs. Gone are the days when Asia Cup was about 3 teams, every match now will hold intrigue.

Revenge is the word I have a problem with. I have no qualms had he said that he had confidence in his team to win the cup. He just cannot shoot his mouth like a random fan correct?

Also this could actually backfire on his own team. I remember when Guru Greg was our coach, Indiahad toured the Windies and after winning the first ODI (of a 5 match series), he opened his mouth and said something like Windies didn't look like a team to him and that India would easily win..the result? Windies won 4-1 Lol!

Lame tournament, until we beat them in WC there will not be revenge.
It would be better if we lost here due to middle order failure and forced changes in the middle by team management, and then go on to play well in australia and hopefully compete to win the wc.

Mr Khanna you have lost tge DDCA elections and soon your Bcci tenure will be over. Thank you and you will not be missed.

I dont mind seeing the BCCI President supporting his team. Its the age of populism folks. He is putting his money where his mouth is.

Can't believe a board president speaking like a jingoist..revenge and all...it's not an effing war, it's a game..

wud request the mods to figure our if by any chance this so called acting president cud be the same guy who creates threads here on PP about India will humiliate England and India will humiliate Australia?

This is what happens when we bring non cricketing people into the board. Spoke more like a fan in the cricketing forums

LMAO.

I love how parosis are getting all riled up! And mr. cricketjoshila will now have to look for alternative explanations as to why BCCI is so hyped up about the Asia Cup, giving it so much importance.

Yet another example of the BCCI and Indians not caring about the Asia Cup or the match vs Pakistan

Bcci gave importance by resting their captain and best player.

Bcci gave importance by resting their captain and best player.

BCCI didn't rest him because they they thought Asia cup was easy, they rested him since he asked for the rest and they obliged.

Kohli had a bad back in the 4th test match against England and it wouldn't have been wise of him to put extra pressure oh his back, by playing in the UAE heat especially when world cup 2019 is just an year away.
