Indian bowling line-up - How bad is it?

But to give away 65 runs in 17 balls with the opposition under tremendous pressure requires talent.

We have that.

India only has 3 good quality pacers - Zaheer, Shami and B.Kumar. The rest are average or poor. But I honestly don't think B.Kumar with his physique and lack of pace will last for the next several years.

IPL is the last place you should look to judge a bowler. Any bowler can be blown away in this format. Even the good balls go for 4's and 6's.

Richardson, Starc & Faulkner also got carted around today. Starc is a much better bowler than that as well.

Ashok Dinda is a special item. Shoaib Akhtar really laid into him "Saat season dekh raha hoon kab bowling seekhenge"...can't really disagree and what Shoaib said was correct, anyone can get hit, but at least you should be able to execute what you did in practice. If someone like AB can hit 150 km yorkers over fine leg for six that's fine, but you should be able to execute, because no one should be able to prevent you from landing it where you want.

The yoyo form of the Indian bowling line up continues. One minute they are respectable, and the next complete buffet, club level bowlers.

Cannot agree more.

We had them tottering at 202/7. If we had one competent bowler who could wipe out the tail quickly, we would probably have ended up with a 200 run lead here.

But alas, that is too much to ask for an Indian fan.

Threw away the upper hand. I don't understand what's wrong with today's bowlers, they have stopped bowling Yorkers to tailenders. A good Yorker even at 80-85 mph can get through tailenders. There is no harm in trying especially if you're not able to wrap up the tale.

Bhuvi averaging 26 (not a huge sample size I know), Shami 32, Ishant 25 wickets @ 26 this year :)

Things are looking up.

Now India just need to get Ashwin in the side and then sort out their spin attack.

Hard to believe, but our bowlers have been doing very well this year. Averages of 25 or 26 even in a single calender year is legendary stuff for our trundlers.

Honestly we are still crap, today we were lucky

Luck can win you ODI's but not test matches...England were crap today but India cannot do anything about it..They stuck to their lines and England threw it away...Similar to how Indian batting was in 2011...Give credit where due...Even in trent bridge our bowlers were better than English bowlers on that flat wicket.

Give us a green pitch and we're a fair shout.

Of course, we can bat on them as well.

pretty ok bowling attack that can support a proper batting lineup. Not sure if ishant can do this every time but confidence is important. My only gripe (well not only but..) is the flat pancakes you chaps make in your first class comps. Bowler killers.

actually our domestic pitches are extremely green seaming mambas.Saw a bit of a domestic ODD match eden Gardens and it was swinging and seaming like SA in the 90's.

Better than our bowling these days. Some people still have their heads buried deep into the ground and consider Pakistan's attack as world class.

Good pace attack on suitable wickets and generally a well rounded spin attack pretty much everywhere.

Indian spinners destroying England doesnt suddenly make them a good bowling attack. England are mediocre at playing Spin and at ODIS. Indian bowlers got phaintys in SA and NZ ODIS. But atm both Pak and Indian ODI bowling attacks are average.

It is funny you should say that...Indian bowling is horrible and we all know that...But Pakistan keeps calling their bowlers as one of the best in the world. The Indian bowling in ODI's haven't set the world alight but again have been decent. Shami, Ashwin, Jaddu, Mishra, M Sharma, UT Yadav, have all had some good games with good averages. Pakistan on the other hand have struggled except for Ajmal and Wahab and to an extent Hafeez. Junaid averages 158 in 6 games and Afridi 113 in 8 games. India have struggled with their batting this year but the bowling hasn't been that bad.

Junaid is going through a bad patch but still has better stats than any Indian ODI pacer same with Irfan. The likes of Shami and Bhuvi didnt exactly set the world alight in SA and NZ. Your spinners were mediocre in SA and NZ have done well this series but this England team are garbage at playing spin and at ODIS. I havent said that we have the best ODI attack in the world. In 2013 we were one of the best this year we have been below par.

The boys showed a lot of fire.

Aaron in particular proved again he is the quickest bowler in test cricket today. Bowled with average pace well above 140 clicks. Very impressive.

You gotta give it Aussies, they are masters of pace and bounce in their conditions. We need to outthink them.

The Aussies are damn good at home. Even SA bowlers were taken apart at this ground and managed to draw by the skin of their teeth!

According to cricinfo Aaron crossed 100 miles/hour barrier :D

Aaron has pace but no brains Sami mark 2 it looks like. Shami is ineffective in Tests but struggles to contain. Yadav should get a go in the next test. Ishant is the king.

Even Zimbabwean bowlers would have done better than our bowlers..they just cant win test matches outside SC with this attack

All of them are extremely inexperienced bar Sharma.Hopefully they will do better with time.

This is one talented but inexperienced attack.

Bhuvi is amazing with his control, Umesh is fast and getting better. Shami is lethal in the subcontinent, while Ishant has been great this year. They need to play more together and work out strategies collectively. Right now, they just run in individually with no real plans.

So far in this series umesh and shami have done better than johnson and harris. Surprising stats

Ishant is the most successful Indian fast bowler over the last four years outside India, with a bowling average of 37 odd. I guess this sums up India's bowling strength.

Well Ashwin was pure garbage today. His hand injured or what as some are saying.

You can't bowl as bad as that and blame the pitch.

Raina was fantastic with the ball.

The thing about our bowling attack is that it looks awful in most JAMODIs and non-WC, Champions trophy tournaments. BUt I'm always delighted how they always raise their game for the big tournaments. All our big tournament wins, WC 2011, CT 2013, T202007, and even in 2015 WC, our generally mediocre bowlers raised their game and delivered.

While I love that they get extra motivated for meaningful tournaments, they need to be good enough to always be consistently good. They aren't though.

Indian bowling IS garbage. It just looks better than ours because our's is an even bigger pile of garbage. Infact, I don't think any team in the world right now has a good bowling attack

The problem is that with such pitches and batsmen in hyper active T20 no fear mode, many ATGs would get thrashed too.

Of course, those who can bowl the magic balls (Akram, Starc, Waqar) would do well but even they can't do well in every game. If there is no reverse swing (and it COULD be a possibility bcos of 2 new balls), I wouldn't be surprised to see them thrashed in some games too.

McGrath and Ambrose could be mercilessly destroyed in such tracks where you can jump out of the track and hit through the line without any fear.

Yadav was bowling fine but Dhoni removed him.

Frustrating.

I think Kohli was captaining the final few overs. Based on this comment in cricinfo:

MM Sharma to Mashrafe Mortaza, FOUR, regulation pace, and Mortaza has picked it again. He makes room, gets under a length ball and swipes it to beat deep midwicket. Crucial runs. Is Kohli going to rue it?

Why would Kohli captain when Dhoni was back?

He captained only for one over

Sorry I wasn't watching the game...I was going off the comment on cricinfo. Since it said "Is Kohli going to rue it?" I assumed he was captaining. I was cricinfo's mistake :)

That referred to a missed run out chance by Kohli

India has the best death bowling in odi for a few years now

Replace Mohit with Shami and Indian bowling will be good. Pakistan bowling is worse than Bangladesh and Zimbabwe if we exclude Wahab.

Good to see bowlers are picking wickets though. We've now bowled out sides 8 times in last 9 games.

Oh Bhaiii, they scored 300+ on your so called subcontinents best bowling team and yet youre talking about bowling them out ...itna smart na bana karo

Good bowlers can have a bad day. Bangladesh were on course for scoring 330-340 or even more but our good death bowling restricted it.

Why bitter, Pakistan will soon find some bowlers that can bowl out Bangladesh as well. itna frustrated mat raha karo

Its bad enough that since 2000 India is the only team that has attempted to chase down 300+ scores 44 times.
