Thanks for making the thread so early :)
Crucial match. Cloudy environment for almost 2 days now in Bangalore and don't know when the clouds are going to burst (But I am optimistic that clouds will remain giving just an overcast condition). Rains may arrive after 2-3 days. Probably playoffs/finals are going to be affected by rain more than today's match (We may see at least a curtailed match today if not full match) RCB badly needs to get over today with 2 points. Their last match is going to be some kind of QF against Delhi (If they lose that match then its fair enough they don't deserve to go ahead in this tournament with just 2 stars blazing. But it should not happen like Rain spoiling their chances today, they will be demotivated & their last match might become insignificant. I have a feeling 5 teams may end up on 16 points or more and NRR play significant role where RCB are way ahead! if RCB gets an odd number on points table it might just spoil their chances in an unfair way!)

I think RCB should play extra seamer in place of spinner today and should utilize Binny & Aravind more (and not Aaron)

It's overcast, not sure if we will get a game today.

Its been like that all day yesterday and no rain, hope it happens same today at least till 11:00 pm which should be enough (20 + 6 overs) It will be fun if RCB is playing those 6 overs :)

BCCI should pre-pone or shorten IPL by at least 1 week from next year. Monsoons are hitting soon which may ruin the fag end of the tournament.

Or play 2 games a day. It just drags on way too long for a 8 team tournament.

Weekday 4:00 PM slot doesn't sell well both on ticket counter & TV TRP. They should definitely shorten the tournament in future if they are going to include an additional tournament in the same year. Otherwise it will be too greedy & will backfire for sure.

1 set of round-robin is enough to judge which team is stronger & which team should qualify. Two sets is only for financial gains. Home/Away concept doesn't matter for IPL teams which is a mixture of players from all regions & overseas. There is almost equal support for both the teams in every match.

RCB needs the win hope they get it. If I was them I would chase for the rest of the season

Actually a rain curtailed game (less overs) will be more fun today (Just that it should not be totally washed out to ruin RCB's prospects). That will reduce Punjab's chances further with no real power players compared to RCB and the bowling is as bad or even worse than RCB.

No. Home support definitely plays a part for teams like Mumbai, KKR, Chennai and Bangalore where you could see loyal fan base, teams like Hyd, Delhi and Punjab have neutral support as they never performed to a level to gain loyal fan base.

Its pouring now! Chances of washout, if it doesn't calm down in at least 30 minutes. Draining System cannot be trusted in Chinnaswamy.

They can still have 4 home matches and 4 away matches. This can be permuted and combined easily.

It will be a big blow to RCB's chances of qualifying if this match gets washed out. In my opinion, it doesn't matter if RCB gets 1 point or no point from this match as they already have a good NRR. Loss and washout are same for RCB given the kind of position they are in currently.

How ? You are playing someone twice then ...

Oh sorry, with 8 teams its going to be 7 matches with uneven balance of home/away matches between teams. In that case they should include 1 more team and then I think it can be worked out perfectly.

I think at some point the number of teams is definitely going to increase (CSK & RR coming back, IPL moving to places like UAE with Pakistani & Bangladeshi players included). In that case I think the focus will be on compressing the tournament and extracting maximum output/revenue by including more overseas players (if the duration is small - all players will be available & will participate in the league due to its importance, even boards may allow) and also it will be possible to sell well to countries with good cricket interest like Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh.

For that very reason I think the Ground Staff may work heavily. I have a hope that there is definitely going to be a curtailed match at least by late night. If so I can watch full match at home with full interest (rather than half at office & half at home), it will be exciting also :)

Actually rain interrupting at the start rather in the middle is good for RCB (Otherwise Punjab would have had a chance of upper-hand by taking advantage of match situation & stupid D/W rules) Now this is good, there is clear toss, clear number of overs for both sides, clear targets.

I wonder how long Kohli can maintain this purple patch. Its other wordly.

Lol, they are hitting sixes as if it's my backyard. :)))

Mayhem, and best part is, ABDV isn't in yet :D.

Watching a Gayle and Kohli slogfest is sitting on the loo and having the runs ... it hardly ever stops!

Btw a classic runfest from Kohli and Gayle..They should be eyeing for 200+.

I don't know why a bowler has to feel guilty when he gets a wicket off an inside edge.

The way Kohli's scoring 70+ so frequently in T20s is just unbelievable.

Loool kohli is on 81 has a chance of getting his 4th century of the season. This guy is beast :)) :)) :))

RCB should be very disappointed if they only get 200 from this.

That prediction was before last over. Man the target is getting is changed with each over. Just freaking crazy. Now they should score somewhere between 210-220.

It's unbelievable that Kohli took more than 150 innings long to score his first hundred and even more freaking thing is, he has scored 3 more tons in the next 7 matches.

Virat the LEGEND... 4 hundreds and 5 50's in 13 games

Like Aman says, Virat Kohli is the batsman whose batting screams "superstar" everytime he bats.

A showstopper in cricket.

Somehow feel this is Kohli's breakthrough season. He has turned into a super saiyan..

Hope KKR MI don't qualify for playoffs. They already have got 2 titles each. I want to see SRH RCB GL DD in playoffs.
