.. and i could not be more proud.

This is not a thread to diss Indian men, even though they deserve it for being lame but this thread is about celebrating womenhood and especially the Indian women who continue to inspire and fill us with hopes!

At the Tokyo Olympics:-

Silver medal won by 26 year old weightlifter Chanu Saikhom Mirabai
and now 24 years old Lovlina Borgohain is al set to win another medal for India in Boxing

Much respect!!!! :14:

In Rio Olympics, Indian women won 2 medals , men won 0 medals
and our Gymnast Dipa Karmakar was 4th and could have been our 3rd woman to wina medal at the Olympics

Overall Indian women are on a streak at Olympics, 5 medals in a row, 0 for men.

TBF the best prospects were mostly women going into this Olympics.

Considering that three other medal prospects in Mary, Deepika and Manu failed to bring home medals themselves, the numbers would have been a lot higher. Still expect a couple more to come in from them.

Edit: Men do have the hockey team though.

Another win from Lovlina will be great which would keep our gold hopes alive.

Come on.

Float like a butterfly, Sting like a killer bee!

Plus there is a huge bias toward the Northeast when it comes to these medals.

Indian girls are used to almost always outperforming Indian boys in pass percentage in school education every year and they have now caught up in Olympic sports too. Perhaps cricket is the only exception.

Tbh, I think it has always been that way in non cricket sports. When you think about Indian medalists in the Olympics or Asian and commonwealth games, you think of Karnam Malleshwari, PT Usha, Mary Kom, Saina Nehwal, PV Sindhu, etc., but male medalists for individual sports don't really come to my mind except Abhinav Bindra and Sushil Kumar.

Feminism has a lot to do with this.

Although it is overall detrimental to mankind however for short term sake one cannot deny the facts , women are laying it down!! They are slaying. Owning.

Go girls!

Hopefully in future we can create proper games where women can excel while serve humanity at the same time.

PV Sindhu in semis!!

Another medal contender sister of ours.

She's also a former Olympic medal winner.

Defending silver medal champion at Olympics.

Can't make conclusions when sample size is so small. It isn't like we win 30 medals in Olympics.

All 3 medalists in 2008 were men.
4-2 in favor of men in 2012.
2016 was all women, too early to conclude about 2020.

Paes, RS Rathore won earlier.

In hockey, cricket, tennis, golf, athletics, swimming our men do better. Women have the edge in badminton, squash, weightlifting, gymnastics. Boxing both are equal in world events.

Indian ladies are doing much better then Pak men. Says it all.

The Indian women this Olympics looked far more elite and accomplished than the men to be honest. Just watched Kamalpreet Kaur. The lady looks top level in discuss throw. Hope she maintains the momentum and same goes for Sindhu.

In general from what I have seen. Their women are sturdy and not soft at all. I am talking about people from Mizoram, Manipur etc.

Never mention the north east generally. It is not received very well since they take enormous pride in their tribes and respective provinces. The north east constitutes of independent states with different cultures.

A nice step forward would be to show some better geographical knowledge and refer to their tribe or province at least.

Calling them merely north eastern is as bad as calling them Chinese.

Basically this.

It is visible, the women are turning up being much serious contenders than the men in their respective sports.

Remarkable for a country like India where women go through so much. Definitely not the ideal place to play sports for women but even then such results call for a huge applause.

Another sister of ours, Kamlpreet Kaur has qualified in discuss throw final!!

Think twice before making fat jokes. She is a hero.

Sister Pooja Rani will be fighting in Boxing middle weight QF today. Wish her well.

Indian women hold their nerves a lot better under pressure compared to Indian men.

Congratulations to the Indian ladies, doing very well it seems. This could be the beginning of India finally being proportionally represented in their medal tally.

Pakistan definitely need to improve their infrastructure, and not focus solely on cricket.

Haha, now let's see which set win a medal in hockey - the men or the women.

Of course, both would be the best case scenario.

Indian men have no responded back with a win in the Hockey QF!!

Loving this rivalry between Indian men and women.

Men are a step ahead right now in hockey and hence have bragging rights over women who must prove themselves tomorrow.

There's still Kaur, Vinesh Phogat vs Bajrang Punia, Hockey team, Neeraj to come.

This is not a done deal yet

New Delhi: Congratulations are in order for Indian shuttler PV Sindhu who has done the nation proud by winning a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. This is Sindhu's second successive medal at the Olympics. She is now the only Indian woman to have won two Olympic medals.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Sindhu after her historic win and congratulated her. Taking to Twitter, the Office of the Prime Minister of India tweeted: "Well played @Pvsindhu1! PM Narendramodi spoke to PV Sindhu and congratulated her on winning the Bronze at #Tokyo2020."

Sorry to go against the tone of this thread; but we won't be able to cultivate sporting cultural in our society till loser medals, silver and bronze are celebrated.

Then you have no idea about timelines and the sheer size and scale of the Olympics.

It's not some ****** panju local mohalla tournament where 2nd , 3rd or even 1st place means nothing.

In the Olympics, nothing comes easy and even for silver amd bronze athletes have to go through stuff a normal person cannot imagine doing.

What have you ever won in life ?

you mean what ever little attention these guys get once in 4 years is also too much?

if you ask me even the girl who became the first Indian to win a fencing match in Olympics also deserves a applause.
Apparently when she started off as a kid, she was sent back saying that their parents had to have certain income to even enroll for training as this was an expensive sport. She lied about her parents income, practiced with sticks to cut costs . who follows fencing in India, I bet 90% haven't heard about the sport ...but these guys will come and mock them when they lose or dont win a medal.
She actually tweeted sorry after she lost the second round.

Exactly.

A lot of the spoiled glory hunters who have grown up following nothing but widely televised and celebrated champions, that too from select few sports popular in major nations know nothing about the journey in nurturing competitive sportsmen for a stage as grand as Olympics.

Olympians in general do not get the attention they richly deserve. The level of competition they have to deal with is insane.

Absolutely loving these stories like the one you shared. In 2021, India might still have little to nothing to show for in terms of medals but now so many of the youth have realistic dreams.

India's problems remain at the grass root level only as far as Olympics sports are concerned. The top of class athletes have started to receive a lot better funding, coaching from GOI. Besides a lot of these iconic sportspersons have also devoted to coaching. Pulela Gopichand is a great example in terms of how much he has given it back to Badminton.

Just read 7 medals out of India's last 9 medals at the Olympics have been won by Indian women. That's crazy form right there. Indian women certainly are far more clutch than our cricketing team who must have choked in something like 7 out of 7 ICC knockouts.

Indian women beat Australia 1-0 to reach semi finals at The Olympics

 :14:

Wow!!!

Both men and women in semis

Tokyo 2020: India women's hockey team scripts history, beats Australia 1-0 to reach maiden Olympic semi-final

In what was a historic day for Indian women's hockey team, Rani Rampal & Co. defeated Australia 1-0 to advance into their first semi-final at the Olympics.

Led by Rani Rampal, the Indian women's hockey team created history on Monday by advancing to their first semi-final in the history of the Olympics with a 1-0 win over Australia at Tokyo Olympics 2020. Having played sublime hockey right throughout the tournament, Indian team was brilliant in its defense as Australia failed to convert the seven penalty corner opportunities they had. While the Hockeyroos entered the match as the favourites, India played out of their skin to stun the two-time Olympic gold medallists.

In the 22nd minute of the game, Gurjit Kaur scored her first goal of the tournament to give India a 1-0 lead. Kaur produced a brilliant drag-flick to beat Australian keeper Rachael Lynch, giving India a 1-0 lead which was maintained till the end of the match. Indian goalkeeper Savita Punia played a big role in India's win and the Australians would be disappointed at not being able to convert any of the seven penalty corners. Rampal was also lauded for the way she performed in the quarter-final against Australia.

Even in the last few minutes of the match, Australia were given back-to-back penalty corners, but the Indian team did extremely well to deny Australia. Going into the semi-final, Australia had conceded just one goal in the tournament and the pressure was on the Indian team to play their best game against the Hockeyroos.

At Rio Olympics 2016, India finished 12th out of 12 teams and had also lost 1-6 against Australia in the mega event. It has been a brilliant turnaround since the last Olympics for the Indian team. Credit must go to coach Sjoerd Marijne - who has done an excellent job.

The Indian team will face off against World Number 5 Argentina in the Semi-Final on Wednesday (August 4). Argentina defeated Germany 3-0 in their Quarter-Final match earlier today.

Lauding the Indian team's performance, Sports Minister Anurag Thakur wrote, "Splendid Performance!!! Women’s Hockey #TeamIndia is scripting history with every move at #Tokyo2020 ! We’re into the semi-finals of the Olympics for the 1st time beating Australia. 130 crore Indians to the Women’s Hockey Team - “we’re right behind you”!"

In general from what I have seen. Their women are sturdy and not soft at all. I am talking about people from Mizoram, Manipur etc.

Irrespective of the tribe, the diet in India's northeast is very protein rich, in contrast with the carbohydrate overload that one sees in much of the mainland. As a consequence, the Northeasterners are fitter, have fewer weight issues and are more sporty.

Let us not kick a man when he's down. He made a wrong call about loser medals in Olympics. There is no such thing as a loser medal at The Olympics, especially gor nations who are still on their path of improvement. Mayne US, China can talk lile that because they dominate sports. Mayne Jamaicans can talk like that about sprinting because they gun for gold every time.

Indians can talk like that about cricket. Nothing to celebrate if the team loses in sf, final.

He has a point but applied it poorly.

Let's show forgiveness.

Indian men have no responded back with a win in the Hockey QF!!

Loving this rivalry between Indian men and women.

Indian men win 4-3, including an athletics gold and team sports medal.

2016 the women won

2021 men with the win

Long may the rivalry continue, whoever wins in Paris, hope we get more than a dozen medals.
