Lol Japan is very good but even rejected dagestani who can't find the place in the Russian national team win medals from other countries.

Magomed ramazanov is from dagestan he won gold and akhmed tazhudinov is from dagestani he is most likely gonna win gold there are others who are in contention of medals.

Dagestanis are the most dominant wrestlers in the world

In 2020 olympics dagestanis won 3 gold in freestyle wrestling and even one silver was won by another dagestani but he wasn't representing Russia and that guy was regular wrestling partner of UFC champion Islam makhachev.

Dagestanis have no match in freestyle wrestling they are the best in the world.
If they were allowed in this olympics they would have won atleast 2-3 golds for sure.

Even when they are not allowed yet they are dominating freestyle wrestling competing for other countries.

Arshad nadeem has truly become a global superstar.

Habib nurmagomedov posted his achievement in his Instagram story which is so amazing to see.

Arshad deserves every bit of accolades he is getting.

Don’t think Vinesh Phogat will be awarded with silver medal because she was aware about checking weight on final day morning. If IOC consider 100 Gms. Overweight and give silver to her, then it will set bad precedent. In future many wrestlers demand medal to IOC, if their weight found in excess by sighting her example

Team GB medics save Uzbekistan boxing coach's life

Two members of Team GB's medical team have helped save the life of the Uzbekistan Olympic boxing team's head coach.

Tulkin Kilichev was celebrating a gold medal for Uzbek boxer Hasanboy Dusmatov in the warm-up area at Roland Garros in Paris on 8 August when he went into cardiac arrest.

Team GB physiotherapist Robbie Lillis, who was in the arena at the time, said there was "a cry for a doctor" prompting him and colleague Dr Harj Singh to rush over to perform CPR and use a defibrillator.

Mr Kilochev is understood to be in a stable condition in hospital.

Mr Lillis said Uzbekistan's coaching team were celebrating Dusmatov's gold medal in the 51kg category before he heard shouting coming from the warm-up area that did not sound like celebrations anymore.

"There was a cry for a doctor, for help. Harj was the first person who responded and I followed with the emergency trauma bag that we carry with us," he told the PA news agency.

The physiotherapist said he reached Mr Kilichev "about 30 seconds after Harj", who had already started performing CPR - an emergency lifesaving procedure performed when someone's heart stops beating.

"Quite a lot of coaches were pretty visibly distressed around the whole situation, so it took us a moment to clear all of them out of the way," he said.

Mr Lillis said he used a defibrillator on Mr Kilichev, which gives a jolt of energy to the heart to help restore a normal heartbeat.

"Initially he didn't come back but, about 20 to 30 seconds later, after Harj continued doing CPR, all of a sudden he came back conscious with us, which was great."

The venue's medical team arrived a few minutes later and Mr Kilichev was taken to hospital, where he is understood to be in a stable condition.

Mr Lillis said he hopes the Uzbekistan boxing coach makes a "full recovery".

"I'm very, very thankful that we did have all the equipment on us, and myself and Harj being there and being trained," he said.

'That's your Olympic moment'

Mr Lillis admitted he did not sleep at all on Thursday night following the incident.

"It was obviously a bit of a rush of adrenaline at that time kind of managing the situation," he said. "I'm obviously grateful to be able to play a part in hopefully helping someone survive.

Mr Lillis said his mum told him "that's your Olympic moment".

"It's something obviously I'll definitely remember, I don't think I'm going to be forgetting that any time soon."

Mr Singh, who also teaches pre hospital emergency skills, said that the situation "puts things into perspective".

"At some stage we will endeavour to go to the hospital," the doctor said. "If it could be arranged, I think that would be quite emotional for both of us."

Chiles could lose Olympic bronze in score dispute

American gymnast Jordan Chiles could be stripped of the bronze medal she won in the women's floor final after a ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas).

It upheld a complaint by the Romanian Olympic Committee that an inquiry submitted by the US team about Chiles' score fell outside the one-minute limit for such appeals and should be disregarded.

Chiles initially scored 13.666 in Monday's final, putting her in fifth place in the competition, and leading Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu, who scored 13.7, to believe she had won the bronze medal.

However, after the inquiry by Chiles' coach Cecile Landi with regard to her difficulty rating, officials upgraded Chiles' score to 13.766, placing her third.

The adjustment left Barbosu, who had begun celebrating her medal, upset and led to a protest from the Romanian team.

In reinstating Chiles' score to 13.666, Cas said in a statement it was up to the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) to "determine the ranking of the final of the women's floor exercise and assign the medal(s) in accordance with the above decision".

GB's Bryson misses medal after ill French withdraws

Kerenza Bryson could not add to Great Britain's medal haul at Paris 2024 as she fell out of contention in the Olympic women's modern pentathlon.

The 25-year-old junior doctor - who was Team GB's sole representative in the final because defending champion Kate French withdrew before Sunday's climax - led overnight after the semi-finals but finished ninth.

Bryson slipped to fifth after the opening showjumping event and dropped to sixth by losing quickly to Italy's Elena Micheli in the fencing.

Swimming is considered the Briton's weakest event and, needing a fast 200m freestyle to make up ground, she trailed the rest of the field in her heat.

That left Bryson sitting seventh going into the final event of laser run - which is a 3,000m run, split into five 600m laps and four visits to the shooting range.

She needed to make up a gap of 30 seconds in the time trial to finish on the podium, but that never looked likely.

Hungary's Michelle Gulyas won gold with a new world record of 1,461 points, just ahead of French veteran Elodie Clouvel, who finished on 1,452.

South Korea's Seung-min Seong claimed bronze with 1,441 as Bryson ended on 1,404.

Bryson, who is also an army reservist, received a huge ovation from British fans as she jogged around the track with a Union Jack minutes later.

Earlier, French's chances of matching her medal at Tokyo 2020 were dashed because of sickness.

The 33-year-old was ranked fifth after Saturday's semi-finals, just four points behind leader Bryson.

"This has been an extremely difficult decision for Kate as she had hoped to defend her Olympic title and ride in the jumping for a final time in Olympic competition," a Team GB statement said.

After winning gold in Tokyo in 2021, French took a break from the sport in 2023 and only returned to training last August.

Her withdrawal and Bryson's struggles meant Britain missed out on an Olympic medal in the women's pentathlon for only the second time - after Rio 2016 - since the event was introduced in 2000.

Man seen climbing the Eiffel Tower, prompting an evacuation ahead of closing ceremony

Authorities have evacuated the Eiffel Tower after a man was seen climbing the Paris landmark hours before the Olympics closing ceremony Sunday.

The shirtless man was seen scaling the 330-meter (1,083-foot) tall tower in the afternoon. It's unclear where he began his ascent, but he was spotted just above the Olympic rings adorning the second section of the monument, just above the first viewing deck.

The closing ceremony was set to begin at Stade de France in the Saint-Denis area well away from the Eiffel Tower around 9 p.m.

Skateboarding superstar left disappointed by ‘rough’ quality of bronze medal – but Olympics offer rapid solution

The Olympics will replace any rusting medals after athletes complained of their quality, according to reports.

United States skateboarder Nyjah Huston posted images of his bronze medal on Instagram on Thursday, highlighting how it had been seriously tarnished just days after winning it.

The 29-year-old showed what looked like rust and chips on his special medal he won in the Men's Street on July 29.

He said: "Alright, so these Olympic medals look great when they're brand new.

"But [look at it] after letting it sit on my skin with some sweat for a little bit and letting my friends wear it over the weekend.

"They're apparently not as high quality as you'd think. It's looking rough."

Team GB's diving bronze medal winner Yasmin Harper also weighed in on the issue.

She said: "There's been some small bits of tarnishing, I will admit.

"I think it's water or anything that gets under metal, it's making it go a little bit discoloured, but I'm not sure."

However, Harper says it hasn't bothered her because 'it's still a medal'.

The Olympics have stated they are aware of the quality issues with the medals, according to the Daily Mail.

"Paris 2024 is aware of a social media report from an athlete whose medal is showing damage a few days after it was awarded," a spokesperson for the Games told Mail Sport.

"Paris 2024 is working closely with the Monnaie de Paris, the institution tasked with the production and quality control of the medals, and together with the National Olympic Committee of the athlete concerned, in order to appraise the medal to understand the circumstances and cause of the damage."

Huston came in third in the Men's Street, behind compatriot Jagger Eaton and Olympic champion Yuto Horigome.

It's the first Olympic medal he has ever won.

Skateboarding made its debut at the Games at Tokyo 2020.

Medals aren't the only thing Olympians have moaned about this summer, either.

The food at the Games has also been criticised.

Even Team GB swimmer Adam Peaty has publicly stated it 'isn't good enough', with reports athletes were being served meat that was uncooked and fish that had worms in.

USA are lucky they won at the end, or else that high jump athelete placed his country in a dangerous spot. Had he agreed to take the gold, USA would had have 41 golds.

Thankfully they were able to maintain 40 and China was at 40

USA top medal table after winning thrilling last gold

The United States snatched top spot in the 2024 Olympic medal table as their women's basketball team earned a thrilling victory over hosts France to win the final gold on offer in Paris.

The fearsome US team were in danger of one of the all-time Olympic upsets but won 67-66 to take gold for a record-breaking eighth Games in a row, meaning the US moved level with China's tally of 40 golds in the medal table.

But with the American team having won 44 silvers to China's 27 – they have also won 126 medals overall to China's 91 – they top the medal table for the fourth time in a row.

In a repeat match-up of Saturday's men's final that was won by the star-studded US at France's expense, Team USA trailed 53-51 with five minutes to play.

The occasion provided one last taste of the atmosphere of wild home support in the French capital.

LeBron James, the NBA superstar and men's gold medallist for the US, was courtside, while French President Emmanuel Macron was in the stands in support of the hosts.

The US edged back in front and in a dramatic finale, with the lead at 67-64, Gabby Williams sank a buzzer-beater for France, but it was judged to have come from inches inside the three-point line and that meant the USA won by a point.

Lord Coe will 'seriously' consider IOC presidency bid

World Athletics president Lord Coe says he will give "serious thought" to running for the role of president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Thomas Bach, the current president, announced on Saturday that he would stand down in 2025 following 12 years in the role.

Like Bach, Coe is into his third presidential term in charge of World Athletics after running unopposed to continue the role in 2023.

"Look, I've always made it clear that if the opportunity arose I would obviously give it serious thought," said 67-year-old Coe.

"The opportunity has arisen and clearly I need to think about that."

A new president will take charge in June 2025 following elections in March in 2025.

Under IOC rules, no candidate can declare their intention to run for presidency until three months before the election.

"The charter is pretty clear about timings here, so this is only, at best, a consideration," said Coe.

Coe helped London to win a hosting bid for the 2012 Olympics and was instrumental in the delivery of the Games.

Lol hahaha I m talking about dagestanis being the best wrestlers in the world especially in freestyle wrestling.

In Tokyo dagestanis won 3 gold in freestyle wrestling even one of the silver was won by Islam makhachev's wrestling Partner who competed for Belarus.

Even in this olympics 2 gold medals were won by dagestanis who are obviously not competing for Russia.

In this olympics japenese women won more medals than men.

You can't compare dagestani male wrestlers with other male wrestlers. They are better than others. If you know about wrestling you should know dagestanis mostly take part in freestyle wrestling obviously only male wrestlers.

Really they need to cut out th these unbelievably long opening and closing ceremonies. This has just dragged on and on and on.

'Sensational' Paris Olympics come to an end

Stars of sport, screen and music came together at the Paris 2024 closing ceremony to bring the 33rd Olympic Games to an end.

Actor Tom Cruise descended from the roof of Stade de France to collect the Olympic flag as part of the handover to the American city of Los Angeles, which will host the next Games in 2028, before departing on a motorcycle.

Red Hot Chili Peppers, Billie Eilish, Snoop Dogg and Dr Dre then performed on Venice Beach as part of a star-studded music set to conclude the ceremony.

Earlier, inside the stadium in Paris, gold medallists Alex Yee and Bryony Page were Great Britain's flagbearers at the ceremony.

Yee won the men's triathlon in dramatic fashion, while Page won Britain's first ever Olympic trampoline gold.

Great Britain finished seventh in the medal table with 14 gold, 22 silver and 29 bronze. Their final tally of 65 medals was one more than the 64 they won at Tokyo 2020.

In his closing speech, International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Thomas Bach reflected on a "sensational" Games.

The 2024 Paralympics will be held in the French capital from 28 August to 8 September.

Bach, who will step down as IOC president in 2025, said Paris 2024 had been "sensational, or dare I say, 'Seine-sational'" - a play on words referencing the river which flows through the host city.

He added that they were "Olympic Games of a new era" as the first "delivered completely under our Olympic agenda reforms: younger, more urban, more inclusive, more sustainable and the first Olympic Games with full gender parity".

The German praised athletes for their "simply amazing" performances, saying they showed "what greatness we humans are capable of".

He continued: "During all this time, you lived peacefully together under one roof in the Olympic Village. You embraced each other. You respected each other, even if your countries are divided by war and conflict. You created a culture of peace.

"This inspired all of us and billions of people around the globe. Thank you for making us dream. Thank you for making us believe in a better world for everyone.

"We know that the Olympic Games cannot create peace. But the Olympic Games can create a culture of peace that inspires the world. This is why I call on everyone who shares this Olympic spirit: let us live this culture of peace every single day."

There was also special praise for the 45,000 volunteers who assisted during the Games, which began with a rain-soaked opening ceremony along the Seine on 26 July.

As well as reflecting on the Olympics in Paris, the closing ceremony provided a showcase for Los Angeles, which will host the Games for a third time in 2028.

R&B artist H.E.R. performed the American national anthem inside Stade de France before viewers were transported to LA.

Mountain biker Kate Courtney, track and field legend Michael Johnson and skateboarder Jagger Eaton took the Olympic flag on a tour of the city - visiting sites such as the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and Venice Beach - while Cruise was pictured in front of the iconic Hollywood sign, complete with Olympic rings.

Rapper Snoop Dogg, who has been working as a special correspondent for American television network NBC during Paris 2024, performed alongside Dr Dre as part of a memorable finale that whetted the appetite for four years' time.

Jordan Chiles forced to return bronze medal as USA Gymnastics left ‘devastated’ by controversial ruling

US gymnast Jordan Chiles will be forced to return the bronze medal she won in the individual floor.

Chiles finished third behind Rebeca Andrade and teammate Simone Biles after her coach submitted an inquiry.

She had originally finished fifth but they believed the judges had scored her routine incorrectly.

After the inquiry, one-tenth was added to her score, moving her into third place as they decided she should have had full credit on a leap that involved a 540-degree turn in the air.

However, the inquiry needed to be submitted within one minute of it finishing.

Now, after dispute from Romanian gymnast Ana Barbosu, the Court of Arbitration for sport ruled the inquiry came four seconds too late and the European should have kept bronze.

And the International Olympic Committee have upheld the decision.

“The IOC will reallocate the bronze medal to Ana Barbosu (Romania)," the IOC said in a statement. "We are in touch with the NOC of Romania to discuss the reallocation ceremony and with USOPC regarding the return of the bronze medal.”

Chiles is now taking a social media break as she focuses on her mental health after such a trying saga.

"We are devastated by the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruling," read a joint statement from the USA Gymnastics and the US Olympic & Paralympic Committee.

"The inquiry into the Difficulty Value of Jordan Chiles' floor exercise routine was filed in good faith and, we believed, in accordance with the FIG rules to ensure accurate scoring.

"Throughout the appeal process, Jordan has been subject to consistent, utterly baseless and extremely hurtful attacks on social media.

"No athlete should be subject to such treatment.

"We commend Jordan for conducting herself with integrity both on and off the competition floor, and we continue to stand by and support her."

Romania's Barbosu was set to win bronze before Chiles was elevated.

Simone Biles took silver for Team USA, while Brazil's Rebeca Andrade won gold.

A viral moment followed, with Biles and Chiles bowing to Andrade.

That moment was set up by the USA stars joyously celebrating once Chiles learned she was winning a surprising bronze in the 2024 Olympics.

"She was, is, and will always be a QUEEN!" one fan tweeted. "She did NOTHING wrong and doesn't deserve this."

"Incredibly disappointing," a second fan wrote.

This was not a great edition especially those opening and closing ceremonies and athletes made to swim in seine for triathlon, decathlon and marathon, arson attacks. Hijab ban fo french athletes. The worst olympics in living memory.

But the greatest in Pakistani history .

The Olympics was not a good one. There were many incidents.

I personally do not think France is a good choice for hosting a big event.

Are you claiming that Dagestani wrestlers are above Haryanvi pehelwaans?
No no how can i say that. Haryanvis are best wrestlers for sure. They don't even come to the Olympics because they know they are better than others.

So they organise tournament better than olympics in which only haryanvis participate as they know others are not better than them.
They win and lose amongst themselves and they declare themselves the best.

Haryanvis are best for sure.

Paris 2024 breaks BBC Sport record with 218m streams

BBC Sport's coverage of the 2024 Paris Olympics was streamed a record-breaking 218 million times online - more than doubling the 104 million streams recorded during the Tokyo Games three years ago.

BBC TV also enjoyed consistently high viewing figures, with a peak audience of over six million viewers on 14 separate days.

Keely Hodgkinson's gold medal in the women’s 800m final was the most watched event with 9.1million viewers on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

Paris handed over to the city of Los Angeles - who will host the Games in 2028 - during the closing ceremony on Sunday.

Across the 19 days of competition, 36.1 million viewers watched 15 minutes or more of the Paris Olympics on BBC TV - equivalent to 59% of the UK population.

The BBC iPlayer also saw 12.2 million people sign in to their account to watch the action.

Alex Kay-Jelski, director of BBC Sport, said the broadcaster "has been there to champion the athletes" and also to "take the audience on a journey across multiple sporting disciplines".

He added: "It is not an easy job, but these figures across digital, linear, online and audio demonstrates that BBC Sport's unique multi-platform offer is capable of uniting the nation with the very best of British storytelling."

Other BBC TV highlights include 8.5m viewers tuning in to watch Adam Peaty take silver in the men's 100m breaststroke final and 7.3m viewers watching Katarina Johnson-Thompson secure her first Olympic medal with a silver in the heptathlon.

Paris to honour Olympic runner set on fire by ex-boyfriend

A sports venue in Paris will be named after Ugandan Olympic runner Rebecca Cheptegei, who died after her ex-boyfriend allegedly set her on fire, the French capital's mayor has announced.

The 33-year-old mother died on Thursday with severe burns after her former partner allegedly doused her in petrol and set her on fire outside her home in north-western Kenya on Sunday.

Police in western Kenya have told the BBC they are treating Cheptegei's death as murder. They previously said an investigation was under way.

Paris mayor Anne Hidalgo said dedicating a sports venue after Cheptegei would help "her memory and her story remain among us".

Cheptegei competed in the Olympic marathon in Paris, coming 44th in a time of two hours 32 minutes and 14 seconds.

Ms Hidalgo told reporters the runner "dazzled us" at the Olympic Games in the French capital, adding that "Paris will not forget her".

"We saw her. Her beauty, her strength, her freedom, and it was in all likelihood her beauty, strength and freedom which were intolerable for the person who committed this murder," she said.

"We'll dedicate a sports venue to her so that her memory and her story remains among us and helps carry the message of equality, which is a message carried by the Olympic and Paralympic Games."

Joan Chelimo, a fellow athlete of Cheptegei's, said women need to "come together" following the incident.

“I knew Rebecca as a person: we were together at the Paris Olympics. She was a mum, she had been hard working to be at the Olympics," she told BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour.

“She was the breadwinner of her family and you can imagine other girls were looking up to her."

Ms Chelimo added: “We are still hoping, and trying to hope, that the perpetrators will be held accountable for their wrongdoings."

At 19 years old, Cheptegei first represented Uganda in an under-20 race at the 2010 World Cross Country Championships and later transitioned to longer road races, making her marathon debut in 2021.

She recorded a personal best of two hours 22 minutes and 47 seconds the following year, making her the second-fastest Ugandan woman of all time.

Cheptegei was able to support her family with her earnings from running.

Ms Chelimo said she thinks some men feel "intimidated" by female athletes who are "going beyond the traditional norms of men providing everything".

“They are becoming more financially stable, they are becoming more independent, and I think their ex-partners don’t like the fact we are becoming independent, we are raising our voices more."

A report filed by a local administrator alleged the athlete and her ex-partner had been wrangling over a piece of land.

Attacks on women have become a major concern in Kenya. In 2022 at least 34% of women said they had experienced physical violence, according to a national survey.

“More needs to be done," Ms Chelimo said. "We are really hoping that now it’s another wake up call and for us to come together.”

Unfortunate to have missed the end of Olympics (main one) due to irl stuff. Anyways to give a brief summary, had this event been organised by a third world nation instead of France, they would have been lambasted so badly... From the polluted rivers to the desecration of the history of Olympics in the form or that opening ceremony, horrible living conditions in athletes village guised under the veil of being climate conscious (in reality, it's to save a few bucks) alongside extremely questiomable draws in which somehow French athletes were always favored made this one of the worse Olympics.

This was not a great edition especially those opening and closing ceremonies and athletes made to swim in seine for triathlon, decathlon and marathon, arson attacks. Hijab ban fo french athletes. Worker protests and threats. Rape of Aussie tourist. Lack of air conditioning in village. Allowing a peadophile to compete.
I agreed

Regarding India's main performance. I expected a medal tally of 5.87 as calculated by a sports website. The actual tally is 6 so I shouldn't be disappointed.. however realistically speaking, we underperformed massively and this can be proven by comparing the paralympic and olympic performance.. side by side. Our paralympic performancs usually supersede our Olympic performance a bit but in this edition, the gap is quite massive. A large part of this is due to a lot of 4th place finishes and not being able to be in the top echelons of the events. Phogat's disqualification also didn't help. The expected medal tally matched with the real one however I still hoped the color of the medals would be better.

Neeraj somehow managed to win a silver which was surprising. I had given him a bronze only considering how stronger the field was. Nadeem winning the gold wasn't surprising however the manner in which he did was unbeleivable. Breaking the OR and AR and then winning the gold medal , having like 4 of 5 throws being his, the only other being Neeraj signifies a level of domination. Pakistan absolutely needs to groom him. I expect him and Neeraj to be fit for one more Olympic however beyond that, it is quite difficult to continue ... so unfortunately it seems we will have one last rivalry in Olympics.

Hope this spurs the athletes and funding bodies more.

Imo We should break the 10 medal tally first. Usually our olympics medal graph is a sawtooth curve. With the addition of cricket and a 4 year gap, I expect more medals to come, 10 should be minimum with 2 golds maybe.. once we cross a certain threshold ( I beleive its 15 medals) then we can expect more than 3-4 golds because right now, the competition is getting higher.

The worst olympics in living memory.

But the greatest in Pakistani history.
In terms of the significance of winning in Track Field and its historical importance.. definitely but in terms of medal the 1960 Rome Olympics was Pakistan's best winning the gold in Hockey and a bronze in wrestling.

Paris mayor says Olympic rings to stay on Eiffel Tower 'until 2028'

Paris's mayor said Friday that she intended to keep the Olympic rings on the Eiffel Tower until at least 2028 despite criticism of the idea from some residents and lawmakers.

The logo of five interlocking rings was erected on the beloved monument before the July 28-August 11 Olympics in Paris and has become a popular backdrop for selfies by visitors.

Anne Hidalgo, the Socialist mayor in power since 2014, caused widespread surprise last weekend by saying she intended to retain the symbol.

"The proposal that I have made for the rings ... is a proposal that until 2028, until the Games in Los Angeles, we will leave the rings on the Eiffel Tower," she told reporters at a press conference.

"Perhaps after 2028, they'll stay and maybe they won't. Let's see," she added.

The idea has sparked criticism from many opposition Parisian lawmakers, residents as well as conservation groups.

The descendants of the tower's designer, Gustave Eiffel, issued a statement saying that it "does not seem appropriate to us that the Eiffel Tower, which has become the symbol of Paris and the whole of France since its construction 135 years ago, has the symbol of an outside organization added to it".

Deputy mayor Pierre Rabadan confirmed to AFP on Tuesday that Hidalgo wanted to keep the rings permanently on the tower.

The Agitos logo for the Paralympic Games, which wrap up on Sunday, was placed on the Arc de Triomphe but will be moved to a location mid-way up the Champs-Elysees avenue, Hidalgo added.

Some critics have slammed the Eiffel Tower announcement as a personal initiative taken without consulting the city's council, or the capital's residents more broadly.

"The mayor of Paris is not someone who lets opportunities slip by," Hidalgo told reporters. "When you're mayor you take decisions because you are legitimate to take them."

The rings belong to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) while the Eiffel Tower is the property of the city of Paris.

It is on a list of protected monuments which is likely to complicate the task of keeping the logo.

The current rings will have to be removed because they are too heavy to keep on the monument, with the IOC financing a technical study to design new, lighter versions that can be attached to an attraction known affectionately by Parisians as "the Iron Lady".

India Ends Paris Paralympics 2024 With 29 Medals. Pakistan, China Got...

The Paris Paralympic Games 2024 concluded for India on Sunday, with Pooja Ojha the final athlete in action. Ojha failed to qualify for the women's kayak 200m final and bowed out of the competition. As a result, India's medals tally at the Paris Paralympics ended at 29 -- seven golds, nine silvers and 13 bronze, making it the most rewarded campaign for the country. Courtesy of the 29 medals, India stood at the 18th position in the points table. Pakistan, who were also competing win the event, ended the campaign joint-bottom at the 79th position, with just a solitary bronze to its name.

India did very well in the 2024 campaign, beating top nations like Switzerland, Belgium, South Korea, Turkey, Argentina, etc. to finish the Paris Para Games among the top 20 countries in the world.

n comparison to India, the traditional heavyweights at the Paralympic Games -- China, Great Britain, USA, Italy, etc. did very well gain, finishing among the top 10 nations. India, having shown significant progression in Paris, would be keen to produce an even better show in the 2028 LA Para Games.

On Saturday, India earned its 29th and final medal of the Paris Paralympic Games through Navdeep Singh who clinched gold medal in men's javelin throw F41 classification.

Navdeep, who competes in the classification meant for athletes of short stature, originally ended with a silver after he upstaged world record holder Sun Pengxiang of China with a 47.32m throw.

However, that was upgraded to an unprecedented gold after Iran's Sadegh Beit Sayah was disqualified for repeatedly displaying an objectionable flag. Pengxiang (44.72m) finished with a silver.

Sayah had managed to nose ahead of the field with a new Paralympic record of 47.64m in his penultimate throw but lost the medal owing to his antics.

The International Paralympic Committee rules bar athletes from making any political gestures at the event and Sayah was thrown out of the final results for unsporting/improper conduct.

At the same venue, Simran, accompanied by her guide Abhay Singh, clocked an impressive personal best of 24.75sec to finish with a bronze in the women's 200m (T12) event.

The 24-year-old from Delhi, who was found to be visually impaired at the time of her premature birth, is the reigning world champion in this event. She had finished fourth in the 100m competition of the ongoing Games and Saturday's medal helped her redeem her campaign.

Track-and-field has contributed 17 medals to this tally, four of them gold. The country is placed 15th in the overall standings, led by China with a whopping 208 medals, including 90 gold.

For Navdeep, the gold makes up for the fourth-place heartbreak he endured in the Tokyo Games.

An inspector in the Income Tax Department, Navdeep has medalled five times at the national level since taking to the sport in 2017. He won a bronze in the para-world championships earlier this year.

Simran, on the other hand, won two silver medals at the Asian Para Games in Hangzhou last year and secured three gold medals in the 100m, 200m, and long jump at the inaugural Khelo India Para Games last December.

She is coached by her husband Naik Gajendra Singh.

Good show from India in para segment. Expecting 12 medals with 4 gold atleast in next summer non para edition

Chiles appeals to Supreme Court over Olympic bronze

American gymnast Jordan Chiles has filed an appeal in the Federal Supreme Court of Switzerland after being denied a bronze medal in the women’s floor event at the 2024 Olympics.

It is the latest appeal from Chiles, 23, who has already had two rejected by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas).

Romania’s Ana Barbosu was awarded bronze instead by the International Gymnastics Federation (Fig) following a Cas ruling.

Chiles had initially finished fifth but, after an inquiry with regard to the difficulty rating of her routine, officials upgraded her score to put her third.

But Barbosu and her team then appealed to Cas that the inquiry had been registered four seconds after the one-minute deadline allowed by Fig.

Cas is usually deemed the highest level of sporting authority on all legal matters.

Reports in US media had suggested the head of the Cas panel making the decision in the case had links to Romania, with Cas condemning "outrageous statements" that it was biased.

Lawyers for Chiles argue that Cas refused to consider video footage that "unequivocally proves" that the inquiry was submitted in time.

Last month, Chiles said she received online racist abuse after the decision to strip her of the bronze medal.

Chiles won gold in the team event in Paris, as part of a US team that included Simone Biles.

Toyota confirms it will end Olympics, Paralympics sponsorship

Japan's Panasonic Holdings said on Tuesday it would end its 37-year contract as a top sponsor for the Olympics following the end of the Paris Games.

The Osaka-based company first became an official partner of the Olympic Games in 1987 and expanded its partnership to the Paralympics from 2014. It has supported the Games with its technologies, products, and services, such as the Technics turntables at the breaking event in Paris last month.

Toyota Motor, another top sponsor, is also ending its sponsorship of the Olympics this year as its 10-year contract expires.

The IOC saw revenues of $2.295 billion from its top sponsors for the period 2017-2021, the second biggest source of income for the Olympic movement, with broadcasters paying $4.544 billion over the same period.

Panasonic said in a statement the decision was made as "the Group continually reviews how sponsorship should evolve with broader management considerations" and after "extensive consultation" with the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

"The IOC understands and fully respects that the Panasonic Group has to adapt its business strategy," IOC President Thomas Bach was quoted as saying in the same statement. "Therefore, this partnership is ending in a respectful and friendly way."

Paris Olympics boosts growth of French economy by 0.4%

Increased consumption around the Paris Olympics lent a spring to French growth this summer, official data showed Wednesday, with the economy expanding 0.4 percent in the July-September quarter.

The figure from statistics agency INSEE was in line with the Eurozone-wide average also published Wednesday, placing France between the bloc's ailing heavyweight Germany, at 0.2 percent, and sprinter Spain, which added 0.8 percent.

After expansion of just 0.2 percent in each of the first two quarters, faster growth was "good news", Finance and Economy Minister Antoine Armand said in a statement sent to AFP.

The expansion offered "gains going into the months ahead that will be aided by inflation retreating, falling interest rates and reforms the government has set in train".

Growth was driven faster by a 0.5-percent increase in consumer spending, which accounts for more than half of French GDP.

Spending by households had been suppressed in recent years as they felt the squeeze from higher energy prices and interest rates.

"A large part of this increase (around half) is linked to the consumption of recreational services in connection with the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games," INSEE said in a statement.

Especially notable factors were ticket sales and sales of multimedia distribution rights.

Weaker areas included trade, which added just 0.1 percentage points to GDP in the third quarter as imports fell faster than exports.

Investment also took a 0.8-percent hit, with a steeper 1.4 percent decline for business investment.

"This significant weakness is the black spot on the report" for the third quarter, said Maxime Darmet, an economist for Allianz Trade.

He suggested that businesses were holding off on investments as financial conditions "remain complicated" for many following the surge in interest rates and inflation.

Some may also be looking anxiously at national politics, where President Emmanuel Macron's gamble on new elections this summer has left France in a precarious position.

Prime Minister Michel Barnier's government has no majority in parliament and could be toppled at any time.

Ministers are currently wrangling with the leftist NFP alliance, far-right National Rally (RN) and their own centrist and conservative colleagues in parliament over a government budget for 2025 that many see as doomed to fail.

If they joined forces in a confidence motion, the NFP and RN together could bring down the government and France could then be left rudderless as no new election can be held until July at the earliest.

Looking to the immediate future, the Olympic boost looks like a last hoorah for 2024 in INSEE's growth forecast, which sees no further expansion in October-December.

That would mean the French economy booking 1.1-percent growth for the full year -- in line with its 2010s pre-Covid performance, but less than half the expected pace of the US economy, the fastest growing in the G7 group of advanced countries.

In 2025, growth could be slowed if the government manages to pass its budget, which aims to slash France's deficit from an alarming six percent of GDP expected this year.

Tens of billions of dollars in tax increases and public spending cuts would batter growth by up to 0.5 percentage points next year, Allianz's Darmet said.

French think-tank OFCE estimates the impact to be even higher, at up to 0.8 points.

Some countervailing forces can be expected next year, including from continued interest rate cuts by the European Central Bank as inflation eases.

Three-time Olympic champion Dujardin handed one-year ban

Three-time Olympic dressage gold medallist Charlotte Dujardin has been banned for one year and fined 10,000 Swiss Francs (£8,886) for "excessively" whipping a horse.

Video footage emerged in July of Dujardin repeatedly striking the horse with a long whip around its legs, just days before the start of the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Dujardin's international ban, handed out by the FEI - the world governing body of equestrian sports - is backdated to the start of her provisional suspension and she will be eligible to compete again from July 2025.

British Equestrian and British Dressage have also reciprocated the a suspension, preventing Dujardin from competing in national competition or training events during the same period.
