Moments after New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson picked up the wicket of Virat Kohli on day three of the World Test Championship final, certain Indian fans flocked to his social media handle to direct despicable abuses towards him and his family.

After Jamieson trapped Kohli lbw for 44 in the first innings, a selection of fans on Instagram resorted to abusing him. One comment called him a “f****** drunk player”, while other users directed abhorrent curse words towards his mother and sister. “Your mother’s v***** should be split wide,” “your sister’s v***** should be cut and fed to dogs” were some of the other crude messages left under his Instagram posts. There were also posts containing rape threats.

He was also called a “snake” for taking Kohli’s wicket whilst also suggesting Royal Challengers Bangalore cancel his IPL contract. Both Kohli and Jamieson play for the same IPL team.

There was criticism of the crude responses too. with other fans also apologising to Jamieson for the remarks left behind by their countrymen.

Jamieson claimed a five-for — his fifth five-wicket haul in only eight Test matches.

Some Indian fans have to be among the most abusive in the world.

there may happen that they have bet on Kohli and lost a whole lot.

What they wrote is totally unacceptable and it doesn't portray how a fan should behave.

Why are these Indian fans mad?

New Zealand won fair and square.

It comes out as trend. I've seen IG live that if one starts, Many does follow. They go to any extent in the name of fun and entertainment. They don't think what these messages could cause and just get on with it.

Most are fake accounts created just for this purpose only.

I agree. They are just doing for trolling. I don’t see why they are being given this much attention. In future more people may do it once they see they get attention.

Also - can it really count as a death threat? Most likely it’s some single pasli Indian teenager behind a keyboard

The janta in India are the worst. Semi-illterate and barely educated in any life skills.

In yesteryear, this was the lot that hurled plastic bottles at opposition players. Today they have found refuge in social media.

Disgusting behaviour.
I see this on YT a lot where people will do anything to garner some view and likes. India has to toughen the laws and take action against abusers

Not surprising. Indian fans are on par with Latin American football fans when it comes to jahaalat or even worse. I still remember some of them celebrating the demise of Asif Ali’s daughter

I have seen idiots like these in live action. They think it is funny and type utter rubbish and cringe worthy things all the while laughing at their own posts. A computer with internet in their hand is like a Monkey with a coconut in its hand.

yeah I remember bottle throwing.

96 wc SF. it was worst.

Most of the indians are not sporting and therefore can't digest any loss or appreciate opposition players. That is hardly surprising but the way some people have started this trend of giving rape threats both in stadium and social media it is becoming quite embarrassing for other indians. These jaahils were born in gutters and deserved to rot there. :inti

enjoying the anonymity that internet provides

Would run backwards if they see giant Jamieson in real

Some Indian fans cannot accept that their demi gods who are hyped to the moon can lose badly too at times. Its the only sport that India is good at these days and even in that they get whooped every now and then.
I have seen these kinds of fans and most of them are bitter losers.

Bottle throwing incidents have happened in many countries. The Indian fans in India are not so bad. However, the ones in the UK are the worst creatures on planet earth.
They have even booed Ravi Bopara and Monty Panesar for wearing England colours. What else can you expect from such dimwits?

Usually fans have a go at their own players, and though this too is unacceptable, I have yet to see cricket fans launch a tirade against an opposition player until now.

These sort of articles are an over exaggeration of events and are sadly becoming a norm.

I understand anything that shows India or Indians in a poor light is a source of amusement for many but rest assured these efforts do not make any difference.

NZ and their cricketers, rather all international cricketers are very much aware of the admiration of overwhelming majority of Indian cricket fans for them. You can highlight a few fake ID trolls abusing Jsmieson but that pales in comparison to thousands of genuine Indian accounts prasing and congratulating him on his success.

India has seen unprecedented digital media boom in last half a decade which is overall a great thing and has made an average Indian more aware and empowered than ever before. But this sort of random online trolling is one negative side of it which frankly we can do nothing about. and the sooner our friends abroad learn to live with it the better. Actually most of the celebrities are intelligent enough to understand this which is why rarely do people like Vaughan, KP who are often victim of online trolls rarely bother to mention it.

On the streets or in the venue, Indian fans do not abuse foreigners like this.

Lol Indian fans are not bad

Le Indian fans: “Let’s burn the stadium down since we are losing a WC semi final”

Not to mention the fires during the 99 asian test championship game against Pakistan when Shoaib got Tendulkar and Dravid off consecutive deliveries. The match ended in front of empty stands if I remember correctly.

The frequency got lesser and lesser as time progressed except here and there incidents. It used to be a common scenario in 90s.

But some NRIs seem to stuck in 90s mindset.

With rape threats and India being in the news constantly for Rape, will Jamieson stop playing in IPL

Although theses kind of post is fake & trolls but they can inspire others to-do bad things and can spread hates.. So there should be some kind of punishment for these posts..

Seriously are you all so influenced by social media? It should be just treated like a toilet paper, use and throw.
But I do understand some of you are not mentally strong and can get easily offended.
My advice is be strong, report abuse and mainly don't run behind negative stories

Absolute filth on Social media tehse days. Some are too young or idiot or maybe just paid (which is same as idiot IMO)
Just goes on to show why we all like this forum so much

India is a country of 1.3 billion people. Such behavior should only be considered worth discussing if a statistically significant number of Indians indulge in it.

Social media gives insecure idiots freedom to say whatever they want without any consequences.

Jamieson is literally the size of 3 Indians put together. Who are these Indians that think they can pull this stunt off on him?

Social media is full of these types.

Just remember somebody leading a happy or successful life wouldnt be wasting their time with that. These are miserable people who want to pass on their misery to others to feel better.

it is not about size of Jamieson but the mentality of these sick idiots.
Maybe a handful of the population that India has but still cant be ignored and these guys need to be stopped.

What do you expect from Indian fans when India is the rape capital of the world? They are incredibly foul mouthed whenever there cricketers are challenged. They are too thick to understand that Jamieson was only doing his job.
