India's homegrown Tejas fighter jet crashes at Dubai airshow, killing pilot [Update@ Post#111]

Its a catch 22, If Indians keep their homemade tech their airforce won't last for long either
Everyone used to laugh at ISRO when their rockets used to fall like birds from sky back in 70's and 80's.

It took ISRO over decades to finally perfect their rocket technology. The will happen with Air craft tech too. Try till you succeed.

Next time Pakistani posters whine about Indian insensitive posters will just point to them this comment section about the Pilot

Guess its not just Indians that go to other news and forums

This is really sad behaviour , my first thought was a bright young person could be saved by little bit of better planning, its criminal, what happended and require proper inquiry after seeing the video.

We have been Inquiring since Rang De basanti.. its been 20 years

Pakistanis know very well they are third world, Indians tend to forget.

Once in a while, the delusion bubble bursts. Today the samosa didn’t fly; we all can very well guess that it’s the quintessential third world incompetence behind this loss of life. An accident yes but caused in all likelihood by criminal negligence.
India is 3rd world because of Over population. India is a 3.8 Trillion economy and growing.
Pakistan is 3rd world because of political structure. Pakistan is a fraction of India's economy and equally over populated.

I can see light at the end of the tunnel for India. Can't say the same with Pakistan.

Two totally different organisations, Defense makes money for corrupt folks, ISRO did well because at the helm were scientists not some random politicians.

I prefer trying to build home grown tech over buying from foreign sellers. At least the money stays in India and eventually they will succeed.
Addiction to foreign lenders will lead the country no where.

Yes so we shouldn’t even try? India does well when private organisations take up the task, we unfortunately lack when government dictates majority of a sector.

Building home with a government organisation for something that requires precision engineering will be similar to developing Ambassador car today

So sad to see this. Such an avoidable loss. Feel for his family. There should definitely be an investigation as to why he did not eject, most likely a technical issue as normally the moment a pilot loses control, they eject.

I agree on the indigenous development point but it should be strategic. You can’t develop/manufacture everything yourself but to be strategic about it. For example one thing Pakistan should definitely develop indigenously is conventional hypersonic missile technology as well as AD interceptors as we will need a lot of these in the wars to come and as a deterrent and so will cost a lot if procured from China or elsewhere.

Indians really need to stop using indigenous development as a shield. Just acknowledge that the Tejas program isn’t delivering, scrap it, and start fresh. India has the money, the talent, and the infrastructure to build something far better.

At this point, only Indians can explain why they keep holding onto Tejas.

Now I am sure Rafale isn't that bad a brand

well you did scrap another project before the tejas in the 1970's, this is very embarrasing

A Project can be taken over ,the culture of HAL is the issue.

Is it already proven that the issue is with plane or the pilot?

They have to privatize ala Lockheed Martin.

Anything government owned is a failure in India. The real talent never comes through as the caste based quota system and poor salaries dissuade real talent from developing tech.

Indian pilots a gift that keeps on giving.

India should not be allowed to have fighter jets. India is a disgrace to aviation

Ask yourself, should India be displaying this plane on any Airshow?
Why not?
It is indigenously developed and India should be proud of it. What is the point of flying US/China/Russia/France/Germany/UK made fighter Jets? Everyone knows what those Jets can do. This was an opportunity to showcase the indigenously developed Jet. Sure it does not look good when the plane crashes. But at least India can proudly say they have the know how to do what big boys can. They need to iron out a few glitches and I am sure India would do it. Its a matter of time.

Keep trying till success is achieved. We also need to wait and see the reason for the crash. Is it pilot error or mechanical error...

LOL, Try to understand what is being said.

Non combat fighter jets crashed record

USA F-35 = 12
USA F-22 = 7
USA F-16 = 655+
Russian mig -21 = 1200+
Chinese J-15 = 300+
French Rafael= 4
Euro fighter typhoon= 24
British Jaguar = 42
India Tejas= 2
Pakistan Jf-17 = 7

Just for information to some delusional posters who don't know anything about aircrafts

This is all now cope... Everything else is a proven fighting machine apart from the junk that is Teja. Having to put plastic bags to collect oil leaks... that was a missed clue!!

Now do it as a percentage of total ever built for each plane.

Only if you know the flight hours of these planes, you will feell embarassed yet again.

Run along boy... Tejas killed one of tyour pilots and that Oil leak is proving costly now...

FYI @Devadwal, I know you are far away from logic and technical discussions but understand the point here

There are around 186 JF-17s in service worldwide, and only 5 have crashed—that’s about 2.7% of the fleet. The JF-17s have flown over 40,000 hours, which works out to around 8,000 hours per crash.

In comparison, there are just 30 Tejas jets, with 2 crashes—6.7% of the fleet. Tejas has flown only 1,954 hours, meaning roughly 977 hours per crash.

Instead of mocking others, the Indian Air Force should focus on fixing its own problems.

There are very few in India who takes Pakistan army capability seriously. I mean talking about common man.

We know that all Pakistan has is that its their army. And it is indeed strong.
India didn't expect this sort of response from Pakistan. Although Pakistan didn't bomb anything in India. But it really acted as a surprise for india to get a response from Pakistan.
Strength is determined by by comparison

You are giving too much information Pakistanis just follow what their failed marshal says else they get software updates

whats stopping indians to make their own engine????

Only 4 countries have mastered crystal blade technology, it is like the holy grail of human technology. There is a reason why Indians can send a satellite to Mars but can't develop a fighter jet engine, but they will get there in the next 10-15 years I feel.

The expertise, scientists, engineers are not there for India at the moment to make a succesful fully indigenous jet engine.

Even the Chinese don't have crystal blade ? So how do they make their jet engines

No Chinese don't have crystal blade tech, they are using the Russian crystal blades from the Sukhoi's they have purchased. They have reverse engineered the blades but home grown ones have been junk, these are however currently used on the existing fighter fleet, they don't have to worry as their airforce wouldn't be facing any war type scenarios in the near future, so they are using what the have and learning. I feel eventually Chinese will crack the code...

In 10-15 years, due to its rapid growth, it's possible India will have some sort of engineering premier league and offer scientists from those countries large deals to produce engines.

Making a home grown Jet Engine is nice and all, India's main goals should be 1) Population reduction and 2) To become a developed nation in the next 20 years... Everything else should be secondary and other achievements along the way a bonus..

China’s WS-15 does have single-crystal blade technology.

The holy grail of tech isn’t a fighter jet engine, it’s an EUV Lithography machine.

Some reports writing that International Aeronautics Association (IAA) have also banned the Indian Airforce aircrafts from participation in the aerobatic air shows due to safety concerns. News yet to be verified from credible sources

The road goes on for Indians. Let these sacrifices never be forgotten. We have to keep improving to eventually become 100% self reliant in fighter jets and related technologies. The country cannot remain dependent on Americans, Russians and Europeans forever. This is part of the journey. There will be failures. There will be crashes and sometimes casualties too. That should never discourage us from building better planes.

Tejas & AMCA program is super critical for India.

Now Bhats/Sanghis: Stop using this word and blame USA for its demise simultaneously!

The correct world is ASSEMBLED as in a hodgepodge. Keep on living in a delulu supremacy :D

List of PAF pilots killed while performing aerial acrobatics:

Sqn Ldr Hasnat Ahmed F-6 aerobatic team of PAF serving in CCS.

Flight Lieutenant Syed Alamdar Hussai- leader of the PAF "Sherdil" aerobatic team-T 37

Wing Commander Noman Akram- F 16

:kp
4 Pak Army aviation pilots were killed in a mid air collision of their aerobatic planes in 2012. :kp

@The Bald Eagle @BouncerGuy you were talking about % . Let's me tell you real truth.

PAF has a higher crash ratio than IAF.
Atleast 35 known PAF fighter crashes since Jan 2012 (66 for IAF in same period incl. 22 MiG-21), but as IAF is nearly twice the size of PAF; PAF crash ratio is worse.

On top of that in the same period, 17 IAF fighter pilots were killed in such crashes (26% fatality rate) compared to 20 PAF pilots killed in the same (57% fatality rate), a testament to poorer training of PAF.

:kp

Cope cope after samosa jet crash, war or no-war it's a norm with IAF and crashes.

Software update looks more like... Modi, "Pakistan nay.... Hum par he hamla karna shuroo kar diya" no wonder he ran to US within 4 days for a cease fire

Doesnt change the fact that IAF entered Pakistan till Balakote. Took down a F16. And our pilot despite being inside pakistan territory walked back home like a lion within 72 hrs, thumbing the noses of pakistani army as they looked on like sheeps.

Which bollywood movie is that? You lost 6 without PAF even entering so......
