Mumbai-Goa Highway Scare: 44 Passengers Escape After Luxury Bus Catches Fire Near Kashedi Tunnel

A luxury bus travelling from Mumbai to Malvan caught fire near the Kashedi tunnel on the Mumbai-Goa highway after a tyre burst around 2 am on Sunday. Thanks to the driver’s quick response, all 44 passengers escaped safely before the vehicle’s diesel tank exploded.

Mumbai: In a terrifying midnight scare, as many as forty-four passengers had a escape after a private luxury bus caught fire on the Mumbai-Goa highway near the Kashedi tunnel in Maharashtra’s Raigad district. The incident took place around 2 am on Sunday, police confirmed.
The bus, travelling from Mumbai to Malvan in Sindhudurg, was passing near Poladpur when one of its tyres suddenly burst. This triggered a fire that quickly engulfed the vehicle. The driver’s swift action in applying emergency brakes and alerting passengers ensured everyone managed to disembark safely before the flames spread further.
Within minutes, the blaze spread across the bus, followed by a blast in its diesel tank. Fortunately, all passengers had already moved away from the vehicle by then, preventing what could have been a major tragedy.

Rescue and Investigation

Police and fire brigade personnel rushed to the scene, immediately halting traffic on both sides of the busy highway. Firefighters battled the blaze and managed to bring it under control by 3 am. Vehicular movement was later restored after the highway was cleared.
A case has been registered at Poladpur police station, and a probe into the incident is underway, officials said.
