Interesting Cricket Facts

Saqlain Mushtaq developed another delivery called the 'Teesra'.

A Teesra is an off spinners equivilant of a leg spinners topspinner delivery it is similar to an off break googly(doosra) but the emphasis is on the extra bounce which is obtained by the the forward spin or top spin on the ball which causes it to travel faster and bounce higher.

He used it in the ICL match

ajit agarkar has an uncanny resemblance with the 96 world cup trophy one can hold him aloft by the ears just like the world cup just google ajit agarkar and after sum time google trophy and u will know what i mean :D

I think it must've been outlawed in early 1980's, right after a huge fiasco it caused in early 1981, that caused the Australia Prime Minister to issue an apology!

It was in the triangular ODI series in Australia in 1980-81. Australia and New Zealand qualified for the finals. I believe India was the third side in the tournament, and they failed to qualify for the final.

In the first or second final (best of three), New Zealand was chasing Australia's 235 in 50 overs, and was 229 after 49.5 overs. (Don't ask how I remember the details. I don't know!).

According to the rules in those days, if the scores were equal, then the side losing less wickets would win. So, NZ needed a six off the last ball to tie the score and win the game.

Greg Chappell was the Aussie skipper. His younger brother, Trevor, was bowling the final over. Greg walked up to his brother, and then told the umpire what he was going to do. The umpire called the leg-umpire, and soon, nearly everyone in the middle, including the batsmen, were crowding around the bowler.

Greg has thrown the bomb-shell. He had asked his brother to bowl the final delivery underarm, and nobody could find anything in the rulebooks that said he couldn't do it.

I remember seeing this video. Trevor took three steps and threw the underground delivery, rolling along the pitch. The kiwi batsman tapped it, and threw away his bat in disgust.

That started a major diplomatic row, that caused the Aussie government to get involved and apologize to their neighbors.

The underarm delivery was banned within weeks/months of this event.
 
Dirk Nenace has played cricket for 2 countries. He played for the Netherlands in the 2009 T-20 WC, and later went on to represent Australia, his country of birth in an ODI game in 2010.
