Interesting Cricket Facts

india won its first test 19 years after their first match.

the first ever test match only had four balls per over.

The shortest match ever lasted two days, between england and australia in 1882. It was won by australia.

Most centuries in an innings is 5 ,during australia's 758/8d vs west tindies on 11 june 1955 and pakistan's 546/3 vs bangladesh on 29 ausgust 2001.(test matches)

India has given the most extras in an innings in a test match, giving 76 to pakistan in the total of 537.this occured on 8 december 2007.

Pakistan would of won their first away series in West Indies if it wasnt for Saqlain missing the easiest of run out chances.

India holds the record for most consecutive innings of 400,6, between 1986 and 1987.these were the scores,517,676,451,400,527,403.

Taufeeq Umar scored a 50 in test cricket after 7 years since his previous one.

Fact #249: Ausman Ginai knows more cricket facts than anyone at Pakpassion

Only 3 players have 6000 runs and 200 wickets (almost 300 wickets as well) in ODI cricket:
Shahid Afridi
Kallis
Sanath Jayasuria

Graham Napier has the highest T20 score in English domestic league.
He smacked a brutal 150 odd.

In this Hamiton test (going on), NZ's first innings total of 275 was the lowest ever total to contain four individual 50s.

275 NZ v Pak Hamilton 2010-11
BB McCullum 56; MJ Guptill 50; KS Williamson 50; TG Southee 56

Previous record:

294 Eng v Ind Manchester 1946
L Hutton 67; C Washbrook 52; DCS Compton 51; WR Hammond 69

During recent Durban test, all 22 players batted on 2nd day of the test.

Ind (183-6 to 228 & 92-4)
SAf (131)

This was 26th such incident when all 22 players batted in one day.

IT'S possibly a record that 3 brothers have represented a country as a wicketpeeper within 12 months..THE AKMALS!
Is It?
??????..........????????

This is a video of inzamam given out obstructing the field, i think it wasn't out because the ball was hitting him and the ball was miles away from the stumps.

Do you think that should have been out?
If someone can put it directly on this thread it would be helpful.Please.

Chris Martin scored 100 runs after 60 test matches.
Has there ever been worse than that?(Litle Quiz although I don't know the anwer my self, but a link would be nice:D)

I have thought of adding few questions for the time being rather than me just telling facts:
WHich Pakistani Player scored 2 centuries on his test debut?

Cricket is America's first bat and ball sport and was quite popular all across the country during the 19th century

In an interview he said most players are 2-3 years older than their stated age and he said that included him. That means hes 33

I think i remember that, did he say that in a"aik din geo ke sath"?

And what happened to your stats , i hope you are not running out of them.

It was suppose to be Canadas national sport :(
John A Mcdonald declared it as the national sport.
:(

Tendulkar, Ponting, and Lara - 3 great batsmen of the game - yet not one of them is on the Lords Honours board (i.e did not score century at Lords).

This is a very interesting and mind boggling stat. I just dont understand what the mind set was.

Sunil Gavasker scored 36 in 174 balls not out in a 60 over game.

Apparantly india were chasing 334 and didnt even get close.

Can any older fan on Pakpassion please explain what was going on here?

First of all i think i have mentioned and thank you for explaining it. but apparently the total was out of reach of india so they didn't try to to win the match.but still very weird. This is like when bangladesh was chasin 382 in asia cup and didn't ry to win the match. their coach said that we could only win if tamim scored 150.

But gavaskar's innings was just out of the world. What was he thinking?
But for yor information i am not an old Pper, i think other people know more.

Fair enough they wernt gona get close. But 36 off 180 not out in a 60 over game is unthinkable. And to add apparantly it was a World cup game.
Can you Imagine the reaction If Hafeez played that kind of knock in this upcoming world cup, Fans would go crazy.

Has anyone ever scored 150 or more in three successive Test innings?

Only two people have done this - and remarkably they achieved it in the same Test series. For Pakistan against India at home in 1982-83, Zaheer Abbas scored 215 in the first Test, 186 in the second and 168 in the third, then Mudassar Nazar took over with 231 in the fourth Test, 152 not out in the fifth and 152 in the sixth. Neither man had any innings in between his three-figure scores.

This is called phenti in grand style.

A strange cricket rule:

If during the game, a batsman smacks the ball and it breaks into multiple pieces due to the impact, for the batsman to be caught out, that many pieces should be caught so that they make for more than 50% of the weight of the ball. :D :))

For eg, if the ball breaks into 3 pieces of 200g, 200g and 1kg, the batsman will not be out if the two 200g pieces are caught.

Strange, but true.

Strange fact:

During a county game in England during the 1890s, a few branches of a tree were over the field, i.e inside the boundary. The batsman hit the ball, and it got stuck in the branches. The umpire couldn't give a boundary as the ball hadn't crossed the rope. The batsmen ran 120 runs before they were tired. The fielding side tried all methods to get the ball down but they couldn't. They even tried throwing their bats at the branch and climbing the tree. But nothing helped. Finally, someone got a gun and shot the ball down.

My question: If the ball had fallen outside the boundary, would it be counted as 6 runs and not 120? :P That would be very harsh on the batsmen. :D

It would count 6 runs but it might count 126 runs if it was a overthrow.
Not sure though> :D

Mohammed Sami has the record for the longest over bowled in ODI.
He bowled a 17 ball over in 2004 which includes 7 wides and 4 no balls.

Apparently Mohammad Sami bowled the fastest bowl ever!!!!!!
I doubt though.

As some people have already pointed out, India were new to ODIs then. I heard Sunil saying once that he was taught to never throw away his wicket and carried that mindset into the ODI frame as well where he either blocked or played safe shots (Not sure if England bowled so tight in that match - I was a toddler when this match happened :) ).

Apparently he learned after that innings and change his approach which was evident when he retired with his only ODI hundred which was an enterprising innings.

there were many arguments and counter arguments about that innings. some says he didn't have much idea about how to play ODI, some others saying it was because team decided target impossible to reach and then some concpiracy theories that he palyed deliberatily as some protest and so and so. i think Gavaskar himself hasn't given any account of that, may be he just want to forget it.

I think Sunil gave an interview to IBN live where he spoke about it. I even posted the transcript of the interview here (should be atleast a year and a half ago)..

Edit: Ok..my bad. Apparently I havent posted a transcript. I have mentioned that I read what Sunil spoke about that incident. That thread is here in the archives - (search for dani2k and you will see the post) - My apologies for the wrong info - I am getting old :)

Hershelle Gibbs is the only player to have hit 6 sixes in an over in an ODI game. This was achieved against Holland in 2007

I once bowled a ball which pitched outside leg and hit top of off stump( Fast Bowler)
I learned fast bowling from afridi! :D

Shahid Afridi is the youngest player to score a century!
Afridi hit a six in the second ball of his career.

Tanvir Ahmed started his international career at 32.
By this age Waqar Younis had already retired by then.
Unbelievably Waqar retired at only 31 which is quite astonishing.

tHE reason for that is that Waqar younis probably had a fake age like other current players too, like afridi is 32/33.

Crickets are omnivorous scavengers who feed on organic materials, as well as decaying plant material, fungi, and some seedling plants. Crickets eat their own dead when there are no other sources of food available, and exhibit predatorial behavior upon weakened, crippled crickets.

He's getting too old now Afridi. I'm waiting for when he turns 18 again in a couple months :D

Shahid Afridi is the only cricketer with an ODI batting average of under 25 and bowling average of over 35 to have played more than 150/200/250/300 ODIs.

The physical age(Ap) and mental age(Am) of an average Shahid Afridi fan are related by the following equation according to recent studies conducted at SPIT, Sheeda Pistol Institute of Technology, an institution known for pioneering such technologies as the wheel, the playstation, the jet engine and the little dimples on golf balls:
Am = (Ap)[exp(-1.44)]

Adnan Akmal would have had equalled the world record for the most catches in an inning for a keeper in tests if it wasnt for the blind umpire. He would have had 7 in an innings.

Shame on chris martin for not walking off, he has just snatched someone's world record . ruining the spirit of the game. Shameful didn't epect that from him.really sad, feel like punching him and the umpire.

Tanvir Ahmed currently has a better bowling strike rate in tests than Waqar Younis, Shoaib Akhter and Wasim Akram.

When Gavaskar ended his Test career he held the following major world Test records
Most matches (125)
Most consecutive matches (106)
Most runs (10122)
Most hundreds (34)
Most scores of 50 or more (79)
Most hundred partnerships (58).
Most runs in a debut series (774)
