KKR have a lot of spin options for this pitch. SRH are always in a game which has something in it for the bowlers. Not sure a slow pitch will suit KKRs low order.

This has the makings of a really good game.

'He (Rashid) can cause a lot of trouble': Ashish Nehra lists SRH's strengths against KKR

Ashish Nehra singled out SRH's Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rashid Khan, and Natarajan as bowlers who may create many problems for the Kolkata side.

The Indian Premier League 2021's (IPL) first blockbuster Sunday will see two top teams go head-to-head in their first games. Eoin Morgan-led Kolkata Knight Riders will take on David Warner-led Sunrisers Hyderabad in match 3 of IPL 2021 at the MA Chidambaram, Chennai. Since the Chepauk track offers assistance to spin, former Indian pacer Ashish Nehra believes that SRH bowlers will be very useful on this pitch.

Nehra, while speaking to Cricbuzz, Nehra said observed that after seeing the first game between the Mumbai Indians and the Royal Challengers Bangalore, he expects the pitch to be useful to spinners despite the dew. In addition, he singled out SRH's Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rashid Khan, and Natarajan as bowlers who may create many problems for the Kolkata side.

"As we saw in the first game, the square boundaries are big. The ball did get wet (due to dew) but the ball was still holding up on this pitch, unlike the Wankhede (in Mumbai). We saw it with seamers as well. Talk about Dan Christian, Kyle Jamieson, and even Harshal Patel, who was still pulling off the slower balls with a wet ball. So, bowlers like Bhuvi (Bhuvneshwar Kumar) and Natarajan have enough experience to make good use of the conditions. Especially, Rashid Khan. If the ball is dry, then he can cause a lot of trouble for KKR," said Nehra.

Let's have a look at their bowling stats at Chepauk. Natarajan is yet to play an IPL game at Chepauk.

Without a shred of a doubt, SRH possess one of the strongest bowling line-ups in the tournament. They have been for the past couple of seasons, in fact. SRH has often defended low totals in the past, making them a threatening bowling attack.

In Bhuvneshwar they have a two-time, back-to-back Purple Cap winner. Rashid Khan was the sixth-highest wicket-taker last season with 16 wickets. "Yorker King" Natarajan had a breakthrough season in the UAE, picking up 14 wickets in as many matches and impressing one and all the most with his pinpoint accuracy and economy at the death.

KKR batsmen, when they walk out to bat on Sunday, will have a huge challenge at hand.

This is the initial part of the tournament so KKR may perform better than SRH. But going into the business end, SRH will become one of the heavy favourites irrespective of whether Warner or Bhuvi or Rashid gets injured.

In 2018, they reached finals with Warner being banned and under the captaincy of Williamson.

In 2020, they reached playoffs without Bhuvi and in 2016, they won the tournament without Rashid Khan.

Warner,Bairstow,Rashid, and Nabi are SRH 4 overseas players. Makes sense to go with Bairstow as he is in form,Nabi suits this wicket due to his spin bowling.

Cummins,Russell,Morgan, and Shakib are KKR overseas players. Shakib probably had to play due to the conditions, the other 3 overseas players take care of themselves.

Teams:

Kolkata Knight Riders (Playing XI): Shubman Gill, Rahul Tripathi, Nitish Rana, Eoin Morgan(c), Dinesh Karthik(w), Andre Russell, Shakib Al Hasan, Pat Cummins, Harbhajan Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Varun Chakravarthy

Sunrisers Hyderabad (Playing XI): David Warner(c), Jonny Bairstow, Wriddhiman Saha(w), Manish Pandey, Vijay Shankar, Abdul Samad, Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, T Natarajan, Sandeep Sharma

Sunrisers Hyderabad have won the toss and have opted to field

Some teams will play a lot of games on pitches that don't suit them whilst some will play a lot on pitches that suit them. There is not much home advantage. For instance Mumbai are playing a lot of games in Chennai. That doesn't suit them at all.

SRH middle order is weak. If they don't want to go with Williamson at 4, why not then play Bairstow at 4. He bats at 4 for England in T20s. They solved this problem last year by having Williamson at 4 and Saha opening the batting with Warner.

Saha is playing. So he will open and Bairstow will bat at 4 imo. Saha can't bat anywhere else other than opening in T20s.

KKR look like they will rely on their powerful middle order to accelerate.

From the 1st game , batting got easier on this pitch. KKR have a strong middle order. This is a great start for them.

Spinners will gets Plenty of help from pitch .8 over of Rashid & Nabi are very crucial for SRH

KKR will definitely be happier right now. They have a set batsmen and still have Morgan,Russell, and Karthik to come.

KKR need to look for some big hits here , its better to be 190 all out rather than 175 / 3 after 20 overs

Rana is a brilliant player. He probably won't get 5 caps for India. The batting depth of India is unreal!

Not a genius move , he opened in last year also , moreover he was playing at number 3 as well. KKR does not have much choice

He has opened 6 times in his IPL career. So he didn't open much last season.

Yes KKR do have choices. They could open with Narine or Tripati. Rather than going with hit and miss Narine they have gone with a more reliable player. Allowing Morgan,Russell, and Karthik to play their natural game.

I've been watching the game and I'm afraid there really hasn't been much to see so far.

Poor quality

Nitish Rana is another good player India have. He has a weakness vs short bowl but plays spin very well and has that extra gear to score runs quickly.

If KKR top 3 can keep getting off too good starts, they are going to be difficult to stop. Their middle order is strong and they also have bowlers who can cover all conditions .

Rashid Khan is the best T20 spinner of this generation.

Rashid and Nabi together will choke a few of SENA teams during this year's WT20.

Karthik is a very good lower order T20 batsman. His range hitting is very good. KKR wasted a lot of games last year by sending him up the order.

All on Warner and Bairstow now. Don't trust the rest of the SRH batting.

Good score but i think the way Tripathi & Rana played they should have scored 200

Next game its better to get in Cutting in the team , he will bolster the batting more

Rashid Khan will break Murli’s record and become the highest wicket taker. He is only 22 so can play for another 15 years easily.

He meant for Afghanistan in the WT20 this year.

oh yes, very tasty.

Add that to some of the big hitters they have and they could surprise some of the big boys.

Warner gone now. Good ball by Krishna. Just shows pace is not everything. It’s about bowling in the right areas.

Lots of pressure on Bairstow and Nabi. May have better to promote Bairstow so he can take advantage of the PP overs.

Morgan and Mccllum have gotten it spot on to leave out Nagarkoti and Mavi. Don’t think you need that extra pace here.

Now Shakib strikes, showing why he played instead of Narine.

Quality over from PK there. His challenge this IPL is to prove he can take wickets without leaking a ton of runs.

Bairshtow is only hope for SRH otherwise i can't see they will Chase down this score
