What's new

IPL franchise owners openly being allowed to discriminate in non-Indian leagues?

Are you daft? The Three Lions have been associated with England since the 12th century. They were first adopted by King Richard I (Richard the Lionheart) in the late 1100s as part of the Royal Arms of England.
The emblem has remained a national symbol ever since.

Elephants on the other hand, are historically rooted in South and Southeast Asia and parts of Africa - symbols of royalty, warfare, and religion there - but they have no historical or heraldic connection to England whatsoever.
If you’re ignorant of history, just say that instead of talking about zoos and Coventry City lmao.

So even back then someone made a tenuous connection and only history has cemented it.

Unless the ECB introduce some kind of affirmative action for Pak players, there is no way for them to actually ensure an Indian owner bids for a Pak player. The Brits can spout the usual lip service in public while continuing their proud national tradition of printing money and being institutionally discriminatory.

I don't even know who the teams are, who the owners are, this just seems the obvious conclusion to draw from what seems like PR drama.

So, Indian owners can tell their coaches+management to not bid for Pakistani players in UK?

The issue I'm pointing out is not the morality of it but the practicality. Yes, they can do that and as I said, unless the ECB introduces a rule that specifies that every team must have at least one Pakistani player or something like that, there is no way to stop such a diktat. Honestly don't see the ECB doing such a thing because I don't think they care that much.

So basically you're putting all your faith behind the British Government for this mickey mouse tournament.

Something tells me you're going to be disappointed as per usual.

A professional governing body in a professional sport would have outlawed something like this. There is very little you can do when the entire institution is virtually controlled by the same entity that is doing this. Everyone else is a slave to this machine

Oh le

The tournament was stripped of all ranking status and the organisers fined.
and they carried on.

Brits had no issues carrying the ban in the first place and so they don't have leg to stand on.

they welcome to drag this to court. I have my popcorn ready

  • Conditions for Entry: Players must sign personal declarations of neutrality. They cannot express support for the Russian invasion of Ukraine, nor can they receive funding or sponsorship from the Russian or Belarusian states.

Except they didn't do they. The policy was scrapped after 1 edition of the tournament amid punishments, very mixed reactions and the threat of potential legal challenges.

Added to this Wimbledon is very different from franchise teams when it comes to the equality act given tennis players aren't employees of Wimbledon, like cricket players are of their Hundred team.

Haven’t read the thread, but is there a reason why anyone would want to personally defend private entities not selecting players from a certain country? It’s discrimination

Yes they can. Actually they don’t need to 😁. Management is smart enough to know this basic thing. Also, as far as I know, owners themselves bid for the players.

All I see are pakdolts crying about potential discrimination while putting their faith in a country that has been institutionally discriminatory. Also rage and frustration directed at anyone and everyone
