When: Chennai Super Kings vs Mumbai Indians, October 23, 2020, 7:30 PM IST

Where: Sharjah Cricket Stadium

What to expect: Conditions in Sharjah continue to ease up on the bowlers. There's room for pacers with variations up their sleeve to create problems for batsmen. But, the boundary dimensions are still the same. AB de Villiers showed merit in camping back and hitting through the line (against KKR) and Ambati Rayudu saw success in stepping out of the crease and attempting his shots (against DC).

Squads:

Mumbai Indians Squad: Rohit Sharma(c), Quinton de Kock(w), Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Rahul Chahar, Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah, Dhawal Kulkarni, Saurabh Tiwary, James Pattinson, Aditya Tare, Mitchell McClenaghan, Chris Lynn, Jayant Yadav, Anmolpreet Singh, Anukul Roy, Mohsin Khan, Sherfane Rutherford, Digvijay Deshmukh, Prince Balwant Rai

Chennai Super Kings Squad: Sam Curran, Faf du Plessis, Shane Watson, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni(w/c), Ravindra Jadeja, Kedar Jadhav, Deepak Chahar, Piyush Chawla, Shardul Thakur, Josh Hazlewood, Murali Vijay, Karn Sharma, Imran Tahir, Lungi Ngidi, Monu Kumar, Mitchell Santner, Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore, N Jagadeesan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, KM Asif

Its the biggest rivalry and most watched game in IPL. It doesn't matter which team is stronger on paper bcoz come this match both sides are pumped up and starts on equal footing.

CSK vs MI is IPLs version of:
Liverpool v Man U, Barca vs RM, Green Bay Packers v Chicago Bears, John Frazier v Muhammad Ali etc.

Cant wait for the game to start :srini:

Gathering the energy to watch a CSK match.

It’s like watching Zimbabwe play international cricket

Can't wait to know by which margin CSK lost....so that the dhoni bubble is further busted

All the CSk matches gonna be borefest from now onwards. Heck, the way they have played this tournament, it has been ultra slow motion level of cricket. Surely, they can't do worse than this.

Very depressing to read Sunrisers are playing of CSK. Overhyped mediocre sides.

I understand the need to hype but thora ziyada hee hogaya.

This should be the game that seals the fate of this iteration of CSK. That it may come at the hand of MI is especially delicious. Bye-bye pensioners!

lol at comparing it to Liverpool v Man U jokes of the century.

Hopefully we get a Pollard special here and most importantly Shardul Thakur goes for plenty. We don't want him in Australia test tour.

Why would thakur be in our test team now? Saini is fit. Bumrah, Shami, fit again Ishant, umesh and saini are more than enough.

Please don't say scary things like this again. I get spooked easily. :((

Pathetic start by CSK. They don't deserve to qualify.

What is this nonsense? If you can’t bat at Sharjah you should just give up on cricket and take up Painting as a profession or something

If you discourage the youngsters as a captain, well here you have it.

Ishant is unfit and so is Bhuvi.

So for Australia tour, our bowlers are Bumrah, Shami, Saini(almost confirm), Umesh and final slot is between Siraj and Thakur. Siraj may be having economy of 9.5 in T20s but can be picked based on his performance with the red ball in FC, if not then Thakur.

Lol, this is ridiculous. I have refreshed cricbuzz like four times and everytime a wickets falls lol :yk.

This is hillarious performance.

CSK & MS era is finished - they’ll have to rebuild the franchise squad from scratch. And, MS should look for an off-field association now - May be team director. IPL’s lowest team total record is in serious threat today.

This is what happens when they start monitoring your teams activities closely, CSK cant pay the opposition to lose anymore :))

CSK 63/7 (13) CRR: 4.85
Mumbai Indians opt to bowl

Pollard just trolled us all. Just bat first and at least score some runs to entertain us on Friday evening

So Babar isn’t good enough for IPL because the local batsmen are too good, he won’t replace them.

Also IPL has CSK

Ishan Kishan showing some Spark.
That's what Dhoni expected from Youngsters.

Mumbai have played him sinse he was 19 despite them having international wk. He is given long rope and batting position in top 4. 'Spark' isn't magic, you have to invest and work for it.

CSK wants international level performance from get go from their players. You have to coddle your noobs a little.

Well said.
I am scratching my head, how Dhoni managed all these years with this kind of mind set.
He like people who listen to him.

Dhoni was a good captain in limited overs cricket. Time is the greatest for and it has defeated him. His mind is now dulled alongside his hand-eye coordination.

Terrific batting by Ishan Kishan. We have so many good aspiring young batsmen.

With MI having matches against DC & RCB and a very high NRR, they're most likely to be the table topper. 'Looks like, unless they lose to both teams'

Those matches will ultimately decide the top two. But in terms of NRR, Mumbai will continue to be at top.

Total annihilation lol.

Dhoni will surely retire now. No way he has it in him after this.

So the margin of defeat is 10 wickets...
ELCLASSICO ends here.......

Happens in every rivalry. Remember Ind beat Pak by 10 wickets in the last U19 world cup? So would you not call Ind-Pak a rivalry anymore?

Lol are we rivals again? I thought Australia was India’s arch nemesis

But in this tournament it hasn't really gone our way. We haven't really won the toss, when we are batting second there hasn't been a lot of dew and when we are batting first all of a sudden there is a lot of dew on the field.
We need to have a clear picture for the next year. The kind of auction, where the venues will be.

What is "we" wrt an IPL franchise? :91:

Time for Dhoni to replace Fleming as the CSK coach. Like Ponting and Gambhir earlier, he should drop himself from the squad and let Jagdeeshan keep. Faf can be the new skipper. It can't get worse than this.

Typical Dhoni. Will blame everything but not his pathetic captaincy and tuk tuk batting. Look at how he's blaming the conditions as if other teams knew IPL will be in UAE.

One look at CSK squad and you'd know they have been getting it horribly wrong for last few season picking too many older cricketers. Now they have a real issue on hand with Dhoni, Watson, Bravo and most likely Raina and Bhajji gone.

Or the 2004 u19 one...much more delicious and spicy....

"Whatever happens, MS Dhoni will always remain the greatest captain in the history of Indian cricket." - Sunil Gavaskar.

But this Classico is itself an insult to the word CLASSICO.....how can u watch such a boring match on weekends.....have some life

Yeah Rajdeep, have some life like he says. :)))

MS Dhoni, CSK captain: Well it does hurt. What you need to see is what is going wrong, this year hasn't been our year. In only one or two games this year we have batted and bowled well together. Whether you lose by ten wickets or eight wickets it hardly matters. All the players are hurting, but they are trying their best. It doesn't always go your way. Hopefully in the next three games we'll try to put our last stand. I felt the second game was all about the bowling, our batting wasn't turning up.

Rayudu got injured and the rest of the batsmen weren't turning up and we just kept putting pressure on the batting order. Whenever we did not get off to a good start it kept getting difficult for the middle order. In cricket when you are going through a tough phase, you need a bit of luck to go your way. But in this tournament it hasn't really gone our way. We haven't really won the toss, when we are batting second there hasn't been a lot of dew and when we are batting first all of a sudden there is a lot of dew on the field.

So it hasn't gone our way and those are the things you study. Whenever you aren't doing well there can be a hundred reasons. One of the main things you ask yourself is whether you are playing to your potential. When you put out a playing eleven and judge whether they have done well to justify their stats on paper on the field, I feel this year we have not done that. Cumulatively when three or four of your batsmen aren't doing well it becomes difficult. I feel it is part and parcel, you think more about the process. Even when you are hurting you put a smile on your face so that the management doesn't look like they are in panic.

That is what the youngsters want and I feel the boys have done that. We have kept the dressing room like that and hopefully we can turn it around in the next three games at least for pride. We need to have a clear picture for the next year. The kind of auction, where the venues will be, and you want to give the boys a chance to perform and show their talent. We have to make the most of the next three games and it is good preparation for the next year. Identify the batsmen, who will bowl at the death and hopefully the players will soak up the pressure. Captain can't run away, so I'll be playing in all the games

Defeats by most balls remaining for CSK

46 vs MI Sharjah 2020 *
40 vs DD Delhi 2012
37 vs MI Mumbai WS 2008
34 vs RR Jaipur 2008

This is also CSK's first ten wicket defeat; the previous biggest being nine-wicket loss against MI at the Wankhede in 2008

Yeah Rajdeep, have some life like he says. :)))

Sighting spinners disguised as pacers in the form of Chahar Thakur enough to ****** somebody off....
Plus u see Boult Bumrah ....on other hand......#HAIRECLASSICO

There's a bit of Lahore Qalandars about CSK.

Clueless captaincy, weird draft pics, strange team selections, an ageing team.

Since when has CSK become so bad?

When I used to follow IPL they were pretty good!

Time does not wait for anyone and every player comes with an expiry date. Sports team around the world need to keep up with time which CSK failed. Same set of players (Dhoni, Bravo, Vijay, Jadeja etc.) were terrific t20 players 10 years ago. But time has change, players got old and CSK management didnt had any succession plan. They should learn from Mumbai Indians about how they benched Tendulkar & Ponting in middle of 2013 IPL and gave the captaincy to young Rohit Sharma which turned the fortunes for their side.
