Kinda early to be opening up a match thread but screw it I'm excited. Weather forecast is looking OK for most of the day so should get a game in.

Australia just named their line-up

Joe Burns, David Warner, Steve Smith (capt), George Bailey, Glenn Maxwell, Shane Watson, Mitch Marsh, Matthew Wade, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Nathan Coulter-Nile.

Game is live on Setanta Ireland tomorrow and I believe Fox sports have it in Australia, so their should be plenty of streams.

Hopefully its a good game, bricking it over Starc though, 150k pace on a helpful Irish track could be absolutely lethal, likewise the Aussies suck vs lateral movement as we saw in the Tests so maybe we can trouble them. Very formidable side they've selected though.

Coverage starts at half 10

OK, there's Dublin. Do they play in Belfast too? I know Malahide, never knew about the venue in Stormont.

Donal, you must be very excited afterall you get to cheer for your team just once or twice every year.

Good for you,

I will cheer with you tomorrow my friend & we will beat these Aussies.

Stormont is in Belfast. Malahide and Stormont are pretty much the two main grounds we have, but we have other smaller locations like Clontarf (where Pakistan played in 2013, can hold around 3-4000 I think), Bready, Castle Avenue (hosted a game at the 1999 WC), CSNI and maybe more. Most of them are small but the first 2 could be further developed into a permanent ten thousand or so seater stadium but of course we cannot afford that as of now.

This is the thing fans of test teams will never understand. Even if your team sucks you still get to follow them regularly, for years now I've had ICC events and 2 ODI's per year mostly, knowing that even one poor performance suddenly means you're finished and you have zero opportunities to prove it was a blip. Its so annoying. But, with our schedule next year and a proposed ODI fund being discussed by the ICC hopefully those days are soon gone for Irish cricket

Unique match but I wouldn't be too hopeful about it. 1 - weather factor & 2 - Ireland are playing the World #1s

Pretty shoddy Australian XI going in with only three bowlers and a weird batting lineup but hey it's clearly experimental so I'm not fussed.

Hopefully Burns performs this series and ends Finch's ODI career

And match delayed due to wet outfield . The Weather is another problem in Ireland.

Toss in 20 mins, game will start at 12:30 or so.

At this rate there should be a bane on non reserve day matches in this country. Bet any money the sun will be shining tomorrow

Australia win the toss and bat.

Good news is last time we played a 47 over gamer we tied vs Pakistan.

Bad news is I feel another shower is due later on in the day. Oh well, hopefully we take some wickets

Aren't there any decently quick Irish bowlers coming up? Why do you think Ireland hasn't had many 'quick' bowlers?

Young can bowl high 130's. Chase the same but he's very raw.

Pitches are far too bowler friendly in domestic and club cricket, so medium pace trundlers thrive and dont feel the need to improve. So basically we need more flat pitches and facilities that encourage pace over seam movement.

High 130s is reasonable pace. I honestly think that the only thing holding Ireland back right now is their pace bowling unit. You've got Dockrell as a decent spinner in the spin department.

Young looks decent so far. Why wasn't he playing the world cup?

Sounds somewhat similar to the pitches in Pakistan these days.

Youngs non selection at the WC was honestly a joke and purely because Simmons freaking loved bits and pieces bowlers over actual bowlers.

Funny thing is Dockrell is dropped today and McBrine is in. Dockers has really struggled at county since 2012 and needs to find a county where he actually plays, at Somerset he's been languishing in the 2nd XI for 3 years at least now and honestly McBrine and Cameron Dow domestically deserve a shot IMO.

This should be a tri-series between England, Ireland and the shackle draggers. Played at Ireland and English grounds. More fun

Ireland is still playing cricket? Who knew :))

Agreed bring back the Natwest Series instead of these endlessly pointless bilaterals series.

Young learning the difference between full member and Associate level so far.

medium bowler bowling short to Australian batsmen on a wicket that isn't doing much.

bread and butter stuff so far for Australian batsmen

Oh God, not Thompson, please...anyone but Thompson.....

That said he has this knack of bowling absolute dreck yet taking wickets

Anyone who follows county cricket sees many of these players week in and week out. They all take millions of wickets and score millions of runs against weaker English cricketers but the Aussies are something else.

Ireland can't afford to let their heads drop here after that.

First 10 overs = 80-0

Last 10 overs = 124-0

Only 44 in the last 10, good effort to tie things down.

Problem is no matter how well we bowl if a team has this many wickets in hand they'll make you pay, need wickets.....

If we hadnt bowled absolute dreck in the first 10 overs we could be in a much better position. Still, very happy to see the response after that start, especially by Young who was much improved in his second spell

Million Dollar Maxwell is GONE. He played for Yorkshire all season and failed 90% of the time. I wouldn't give you tuppence for him.

Australia 190-5 ....... Watson still left and can undo some of the damage. Ireland should try to restrict the target under 250 and then back their batters to chase it down. Greta opportunity for an upset here.

It seems like Australia are playing their full-strength team while Ireland are playing their A team. Where the hell is KOB and Dockrell?

Wade really? Has he been dominating in domestics lately or Aussies simply don't have a better WK?

Kevins injured, Dockers dropped because he's had a free ride for too long.

Aussie innings will end soon IMO, black clouds approaching. D/L likey to come into play. Will be a tough chase on a pitch that gets harder to bat on as time passes, but great bowling effort regardless. Last 30 overs have been 139-6

Dockrell has always looked good whenever I've seen him play. Wasn't there talk of him being poached by England? Surely Ireland can't have a better spinner than him. Plus he's only 23.

Well done to the English Import for being Ireland's best bowler :)
