Is Ajinkya Rahane turning a corner in ODIs? Eight 50+ scores in last 11 innings

1 century and 7 50s to be precise at an average of over 50 and 80+ S/R.
He was the man of the series in WI which had slow and low pitches for almost every game and now 4 consecutive 50s vs Aus in sporting pitches. He should still remain India's 3rd opener as both Dhawan and Rohit are still comfortably better than him but a good option to have none-the-less.However should'nt be sent to bat at No. 4 or below.Good improvement as far as I am concerned.Since 2015 WC he averages around 42 @80

Not yet. He can score some runs as an opener. His problem is not his ability to handle conditions. If anything he is the best player for India on all conditions. But his problem will always be inability to produce big overs at crunch time when he bats late down the order. He also doesn't rotate strike.

Even if he scores 25 half tons in his next 28 Odis, he should not be picked, ODI games have gone to levels where 60 from 71 balls ain't good enough,India has atleast 2-3 better guys in odis than him. He is priceless in tests and that's where he belongs

He's a player harshly treated by many Indian fans.

Just because he doesn't play mindless slog shots he gets criticised. I think these generation 20/20 fans have the memory of fish and don't realise you need batsman that put a price on their wicket.

Rahane does just that - I was so glad he didn't play the CT final.

It wouldn't have made a difference if he played.

He's a slow player, he is to India what shehzad is to us, they have higher batting standards to compensate for their okay-ish bowling.

He is a good test player and at best decent ODI player, not suited for LOI formats,he can make money via IPL.

India has many upcoming batsmen who can play dynamically in ODIs,he will just be blocking them.

No. I admire him a lot as a Test player but Dhawan-Rohit is the combination to go with. Maybe, if it's an absolute lawn of a track along with swinging conditions and you need an opener who can blunt the new ball for 10 overs then I'd prefer Rahane in place of Rohit, otherwise no. Rahane is overvalued in ODIs and undervalued in Tests, he shouldn't be in the ODI team but should definitely be the Test captain over Kohli.

I will take him over hacks like jhadav and pandey.

He will be a reserve opener only.

India needs to move on from above said hacks and expired hack dhoni

Rahane is practically useless once the batting powerplay is over. India already has better openers in Dhawan and Rohit and their scoring rate is not hampered even after the fielding restrictions are over.

There are no corners left in his path, there is only 1 way his path is heading, and that path is straight as an arrow and it is heading out of the Indian ODI team

Australia have kept his ODI career alive for another series. He doesn't bat at the required rate for modern LO cricket.

India would be better off investing in KL Rahul.

India’s performance in the first 10-15 overs of odis in recent years is pretty poor. Their run rate is too low for odi cricket in 2017. Looking ahead to the WC in England I don’t think they can afford a top order with both Sharma and Rahane in it.

Exactly. The main problem is that both are openers are of the same mould in the first 15 overs. At least Rohit Sharma is able to go berserk once he sets in. Rahane can't do that. Dhawan - Rohit or Rahul - Rohit/Dhawan is a good combo.

Dhawan - Rohit kind of complement each other, even though it makes our top order a but flimsy.
Rahul is a complete player and should really be opening most matches.

The only good innings of Rahane I can remember which was vital for the team was against SA in the WC.

Horses for courses.

Not suitable for odi. A poor man's dravid.
