Aamir would be the most over hyped cricketer in Pakistan's history. Babar is improving by the series and is a productive player for Pakistan. His strokes are beautiful and pleasing to watch. I hope he stays away from T-20 and concentrate on Test and ODIs and not change his batting style to suite T20 cricket.

When I say overhyped, I mean it in the sense that there is that one player who 90% of the fans back through thick and thin, no matter what he does it’s positive. All of his negatives are overlooked. Harris Sohail is that one player. Only fans, hardly any critics. I’m not taking a dig at senior posters including mods, but he is definetly their blue eyed boy.
Babar is not over hyped but he needs to stop throwing his wicket away after 50's & 60's. Those type of scores don't help your team. He needs to convert his starts. For example, his last ODI hundred was in Bulawayo against Zimbabwe in July 2018, before that October 2017 against Sri Lanka. So for about a year and a half he has only 1 ODI hundred. I remember him getting few starts during this time. Since the beginning to 2018 his ODI average has dipped to 39.1 with just 1 hundred in 22 innings.
Even though his Test average is good during the same period, he has only 1 Test hundred in 18 innings. He has 7 fifties. Unless you score hundreds, you will not help your team much in overseas Tests or in UAE.

Once he fulfills this small wish of test average of 45, I can understand if he gets hyped from the fans but not now and after that only, the comparisons with fab Four would be fine.

Tbh i am not 100% convinced about his mental strength.
When the going gets tough and chants in the crowd get louder, thats the time where men seperate themselves from the boys. You can either wilt under pressure and freeze. Or you can overcome the nerves and rise to the occassion.

It's not all about WC. He is 24 currently, so failing in WC is not the end of everything for him and neither does just succeeding in WC is all for him. He will have several more shots for it.
What he needs is to start becoming a prolifc run-scorer in tests and ODIs across most conditions and against most opponents. If he performs at that level in these two formats, then T20s performance aren't that a deal, although if he does well there as well, then it's a bonus.
As of recently on pp the most hyped mediocre player is Shan Masood, ppl have even asked for him to be made captain after 3 good matches forgetting how terrible he was prior to these 3 matches. Imam has been criticised for potential neoptism in his selection even though he averages over 50 but Shan who arguably has nepotism to thank even mote than Imam is hyped as some kind of world beater.

He already is the best Pakistan has ever produced with the bat, completely in line with modern batting requirements. I fail to see how Inzimam, Yousuf and Miandad would have adapted to the modern requirements of batting today.
Babar cannot be told he is the best we have produced as it would get to his head, but he is definetly better than those before him at this very point

Yes, most definitely. Had an average series yet hailed as some kind of batting lord who regularly beat the opposition black and blue and win matches left, right, center single handedly.

He averaged 36 in the test series against SA with no hundreds. It was a good performance considering the conditions and how he batted positively, but it certainly wasn't the groundbreaking performance that people on here made it to be.
Well based on your post now he is the most over hyped Pakistani player. Comparing him to Miandad, Inzimam and Yousuf at this stage is foolhardy. He is nowhere compare to Miandad at 24 years of age and if you don't believe me please go back and run the stats.

I am sorry but his current performances don't make me go wow, I have seen better, much much better. Come back after he get his average above 45 in the format that matters the most. You can hype him up to the Moon all you want but don't expect everyone to board the same train.
Yes he has been doing pretty well, I just commented on his chase effort as being exceptional. Thoroughly enjoyed the stroke quality and the rate at which he scored. He has definitely come at home in the t20 format after his early struggles.
I will be eager to see him perform in the PSL now after his exceptional run in the t20 side.
I will also say he was the only batsman that showed intent in the test matches. Should've gotten to a 100 in one of the matches, but that is a very small negative to an overall exceptional tour in South Africa.
Don't want to cherry pick on his small mistakes when he has been doing so well and easily the most at home batsman for the side throughout the tour.

Not long ago we became the first Asian team to win a test series in Australia where you have not even managed to draw a match since the last 25 years i think. We won a test in South Africa last year which you last did wayyy back in 2007. We won a test series in England in 2007 which you did for the last time in 1996. We have won 4 series in West Indies while you have won just one. New Zealand is the only place where you have done better than us and full credit for that.
So yeah tell us more about us getting beaten left, right and centre.

Yeah, but when someone mentions that Babar had a difficult start to his Test career but has started turning it around recently (many top batsmen went through that process), you keep going on about "3 runs better average than Indian tailenders" and "don't give me selective stats".
Struggling early on in one's career isn't a big deal, even the great Sachin Tendulkar was averaging 30 after 70 ODIs.
How one responds to the early struggles is what makes or breaks a career.

Man reading this thread will give you an impression that Babar single handedly beaten the living daylights out of the Saffers, while in reality he had an average test series (Good by Pak standard) and a mediocre ODI run. If this is not overhyping I don't know what is.

For me the positive in this series was that he seemed to playing in a manner which helps the team cause as well. When he played in odis series in Australia, it was sharjeel who was doing all the heavy lifting in keeping Pakistan in the game.

This is OPs most ill-advised thread. Babar Azam is a fantastic LOI batsman who is also quickly improving in test cricket. He's ahead of where the likes of Kohli, de Villiers and Amla were at the same age and although that does not tell us anything about the future, it does get you excited for what is to come.

Babar and Rahul average around the same, though Rahul has 5 centuries (including hundreds in Australia and England), whereas Babar's only hundred is in the UAE.
In T20s, Rahul averages 43 with a strike rate of 148 and two centuries. Babar averages 54 but with a strike rate of just 128 and no centuries. Quite comparable careers.
So it is very strange to say that Babar is a better player than Rahul will ever be.

babar azam don,t play on flat wickets like rahul do in t20s uae is not place where he can score at the strike rate of over 140 regularly.if you want see ability of babar on flat wicket do check his record in SA where he finishes t20 series with strike rate of 157

If you are not good enough you can't play the way he did against cummins while the rest of them didn't have a clue. Though i agree he played a pathetic shot to get out to a nothing bowler when he had done all the hard work. I am sure he will improve in this regard.

The main problem i find with azam.He's a boundary hitter,and needs to improve his ability to score with percentage cricket.Thats how you score big consistently.
He's also not a natural six hitter.So improvement in his power game like kohli did could be useful for him in limited overs formats.

No you're wrong... He's probably the only batsman in the team who manages to get singles and get off strike, hence why he always plays around 100 strike rate with no big shots. He doesn't need to be a big boundary hitter. Root, Williamson and Smith are not big boundary hitters and are doing perfectly well. He needs to make sure he doesn't lose his concentration and play a rash shot (like the pull yesterday or the flash outside off stump).

Overrated? Really Pakistan fans? You are an ungrateful bunch of people. I remember Indians were also impatient with Kohli but that is more to do with his attitude but Babar? I'm aghast at your thoughts. Babar is anything but overrated or overhyped or soft. He still has to develop certain temperamental aspects to his game but he's already one of the best.

Looks like OP rated Babar as second coming of Sachin or Lara and now feels let down. It's his own fault for overrating Babar rest of us rated him aptly.
Us Pak fans don't like to hear the truth. Yes he is overrated coz he never completes the job. Looks good then gets out to an incredibly stupid shot. World class players stay at the wicket and finish the job. Being great to watch does not make him world class. Even Wahab Riaz can be a great batsman to watch on his day!

He is a very good player who is pretty consistent. He just played a great knock vs England. This knock he was looking imperious. His failure to convert starts like yesterday puts him just below the elites. I think he can develop this in the future.
