Is Bangladesh the best Asian ODI side after India?

Bangladesh been a waste of space in the Champions Trophy. Would been better if West Indies would have been in it instead. Would been more competitive. Bangladesh playing like a minnow as always. Shame they been playing for so long but still when it matters in big tournaments they play like their standards like minnows. Better OFF ICC gives test status to another team instead as bangladesh still play like minnows.
Just with 1 victory and thanks to rain they made it to the semi finals and today once again they play like a minnow when it matters
 
Just 1 victory for BD on this entire tour including warm ups.

Really disappointing.
 
With all respect to BD fans; the way Pakistan have played here at CT I dare to say Pak is a better team. And it will become better in future IA.
 
Pakistan was always the better team, just had to put the right combination together. Bangladesh powder puff bowling gets away with playing on the slow sluggish wickets.

LOL on this thread. Both Pakistan and SL have beaten India.

What Pakistan did in this CT, BD may not be able to do that in 20 years. Not just BD but any team in any sports!!

Amir would have got them through. It was that kind of tournament. Plus the ruthlessness after that is something Bangladesh aren't yet capable of. They need a few quality bowlers to really challenge in a tournament.
 
No, the mighty Bangla team is the no 1 team. Not only in Asia but in the world.

How do you explain that by just winning 1 game they reached the semis. Thats how good they are.
 
Yes in my list Bangladesh is the best Asian Odi side after India.

The list goes like this from top to bottom:

PAK
SL
IND
BAN

India just recently lost to Sri Lanka, hence Sri Lanka before India is justified.
 
All pride aside, no. Clearly Pakistan are much better than us. We have pride and it hurts when we lose a lot and everyone rips us a new one. We get defensive, ok.

1. India
1.5 Pakistan

That is the overall standing.

2-4. Lanka & Bangladesh.

5. Afghanistan

That is being honest.
 
Pakistan with new blood like fakhar Hassan and shadab have overtaken Bangladesh.

Well done. Hopefully we too will unearth some talents.

The disaster in our Bangladesh tour where Azhar was our captain was a one-off thing. I don't think they can beat us at home even
 
It was only one tournament. Pakistan will need to keep it up over 3-4 series or go deep into the 2019 world cup.

Umar akmal after playing 100s of matches for Pakistan hasn't done 1/100 of what fakhar achieved in 4 games.

Fakhar >>>>>>>> talented Umar akmal

Serves him right that he missed out on being part of the winning team. At least shahzad got to watch the action from the bench and even pose with the trophy.

Go watch his batting again and you'll see many proper cricketing shots being played. However this doesn't matter at all because in LOI cricket, slogging is the way to go now so long as the batsman has a good eye and power hitting ability

babar azam 5th in batting ranking

odi ranking 6th now

so we are now far ahead of ban and 2nd after india:harby:harby
 
Pakistan was always better. We had captaincy issues and the combination was just not right. Right now, Pakistan and India are level (Indians can go slightly ahead if they inject a new middle order in their batting lineup).

Bangladesh still has a long way and winning a couple of major events could be a good start

At present,Pakistan is a much better team than Bangladesh no doubt.Winning CT is not an simple achievement.Only the future will tell us whether Pakistan will be able to show consistent performance like this or not.

ICC rankings is done on performances not based on mere emotions and instinct like this.And in ICC rankings West Indies is below Bangladesh.

1. India
2. England
3. Pakistan
4. Saffers
5. Australia
6. New Zealand
7. West Indies (would beat Bangladesh at home and on neutral ground if they played Gayle, Bravo etc)
8. Bangladesh
9. Zimbabwe

Pure talent? Pakistan should be number 1 in all formats if you talk about potential and pure talent. Execution, consistency, and staying at the top level is a different story.

Gayle Bravo aren't as good as they were. Gayle these days don't score much runs and is a poor fielder. Bravo in ODI is ordinary. Neither a wicket taker neither a reliable batsman.

Even if west indies field their best ODI XI BD would beat them.

In 2013 west indies toured us. We beat them in ODI series. Bear in mind WI were playing their full strength side and we were playing without Mashrafe and Shakib.

Fast forward 4 years Bangladesh has improved vastly and WI has regressed and that applies to their senior cricketers as well. So apply the logic.

If Windies played Bangladesh in neutral grounds - e.g UK - and played their best 11, Windies would win easily.

Bangladesh have improved at home only. But they still have a terrible record overall and their improvement has been incredibly slow compared to India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Pakistan drew a test series in UK in the fifties - a few years after joining the test arena.

Sri Lanka won a world cup within 20 years.

West Indies team even with their best XI don't have much of a team. They barely scampered into the quarter finals in the last 2 World cups didn't qualify for the Champions trophy.

While I agree Lanka took less than 20 years but Lanka had better facilities when they started off. Bangladesh didn't have fc structure when granted test status. Some teams blossom all of a sudden because of-
1) genetics
2) having a good set of players playing in a certain period.
3) a bit of luck which you need in world cups.

Let's be honest all these things clicked for SL and they won. Kudos to them.

If you question our progress look at Ireland. They haven't had a newbie quality cricketer in years. They are still pretty much as good as they were 6 years back. They haven't progressed and their best players are no longer at their peak and will soon retire. Afghanistan has on the other had a few things going their way:

1) Genetics which means they have some big hitters in an era of T20 and flat tracls
2) quick bowlers
3) A magician in Rashid Khan

Which is why right now Afghanistan have progressed better than Ireland in the same time frame as Ireland

How bad is the Bangladeshi pace attack ??

The performance of the bowlers on the current tour of Southafrica has been absolutely abysmal .
The pacers have not looked like getting a wicket . They will struggle to even compete abroad with this set of pacers .
I doubt there are any shortcuts as the depth is not great either . The current setup reminds me of India of old in so many ways.
They really should invest in a pace academy like India and bear fruits later .
 
It has been a tough tour and we have missed Fizz. He is the Tiger with teeth and the others have felt the absence of the spearhead and lost their mojo.

Fizz hasn't been very effective since his shoulder injury. Doubt he would've been able to prevent a clean sweep. He played in Tests, but the bowling attack was still as toothless as now.

Pakistan
India
And then Bangladesh in the pecking order.

I say this because India play so many odi’s against different nations at home and their peak is several notches below Pakistan.

The amount India plays, with all the backing and money thrown into it, I just think they’re not as good as people make them out to be.

The last bi lateral pro series the two teams played, Pakistan won and that too India.
Furthermore, i’m convinced that Pakistan’s peak is higher then India’s.
At their peak Pakistan beats almost all teams hands down. Our problem has always been consistency but a see a change now.. Pakistan ODI is a completely different animal to what it was 6-8 months ago.

Absolutely, but on one issue Bangladesh comes after India, India is 3rd, Ban is 4th.
 
Pakistan and India are both equal as ODI teams currently. Don't think Pakistan is ahead just yet. Pakistan will definitely beat India in a bilateral series but I don't think Pakistan can show the same competition to SA and Aus as India might.
 
India is clearly the best side in Asia and SL clearly the worst. I'm ignoring Afghanistan and the other Associate teams.

Bangladesh vs Pakistan largely depends on conditions. In their comfort-zone, Bangladesh is definitely more than a match for Pakistan, and Pakistan's comfort-zone is actually Bangladesh's comfort-zone as well. They thrive on these slow, low pitches which is why they will be very competitive in the UAE.

However, they will struggle against Pakistan badly in places like South Africa, England, Australia etc., which is why Pakistan has the advantage overall.

Absolutely. But I'm talking about current form. Going by that logic, we are also the superior attached simply because we've won far more head to head matches with India. But, other than being an opportunity to show off, it doesn't account to much as far as present form and comparisons are concerned.

That is true. Good point. We haven't played South Africa in four years, it's getting ridiculous.
 
I know this is a T20 and not ODI, but we have Bangladesh heading for an honorable defeat against Afghans.
 
I am not worried about bd anymore afghanistan is team to vary about .they have improved immensly and see them beating a major team at worldcup
 
Overall I am happy with the progress of the Afghan brothers they definitely have the bowling in limited over cricket to be competitive in Asian conditions, they just need few of the bats to be more consistent and put runs on board, their spin attack is wonderful, to ppers any upcoming spinners whom we can see from Pakistan apart from usual guys in shadab and yasir.
