Pandya is an extraordinary hitter. He still hasn't mapped out his game yet, but he has a lot of explosive power, and is second to only Russell in this department.
These guys get great power in their shots because their core co-ordination when hitting big shots is fantastic.
This means they dont have to rely on timing it well to get it past the boundary as the batspeed can make up for it.

Guys like imad, asif ali are not power hitters as they rely on timing and use of their wrist instead of core co-ordinated batspeed to hit sixes.

Over the last 3 years, Pandya has played innings across formats that Imad will not match in his entire career.

No team in the world in any format would pick Imad over Pandya as a batsman, no one.

Yes, he is quite similar to Russell, although Russell is more gifted.

Not a single one has been match winning so far Imad has wons many games for Pakistan with his batting regardless what opposition the wins have been against so imads already achieved more than what Pandya is yet to achieve which is win a match for his country now go on your rant Im all ears to what you have to say even if someone scores a 100 and your team doesn't win that is useless but a 30 is more vital than that 100 if your team wins because of it.

Asif Ali has more power than Pandya his sixes are humungous it's just he has only one shot and he's garbage

Contrary to what people think, Asif Ali is not a power hitter, but is rather a fantastic timer of the ball. However, his scoring zones are all aerial, and he doesnt have many risk averse scoring shots like Babar, or Hafeez; hence the lack of consistency and low output of runs.
He cant muscle the ball from back of a length very often; a trait power hitters have. Pandya, Afridi, Russell and even ab devilliers can all do that and are therefore true power hitters.

You are all ears but maybe you should use what is between your ears as well.

Pandya has played the following “match winning” innings:

83 (66) and 78 (72) was Australia in the 2017 ODI series.

India were 87/5 and Pandya scored a counter-attacking 83 to take India to 281. That innings alone was more impressive than all Imad innings.

That 78 (62) came while chasing 290+.

48 (27) vs Australia in the 2019 World Cup. This aggressive cameo put India’s total out of Australia’s reach

Maybe today’s innings would also prove to be match-winning.

He has also has a Test century in Sri Lanka where he took India from 290/5 to 500.

Now before you write that innings off because it is Sri Lanka, remember that the same Sri Lanka team toured UAE 2 months later and whitewashed Pakistan.

Maybe today’s innings would also prove to be match-winning.

Yuvraj used to hit the biggest sixes with his golf swing and great timing, but he was not a power hitter.
Asif has a good swing and good timing, but he doesn’t use brute strength to hit sixes, like the acclaimed hitters do.
 
Nobody ever doubted his talent. Just his ability to score runs when they matter. Especially in run chases. Thats all. otherwise even a blind person knows this guy can smack the ball.
 
I am happy to have been proven wrong. Pandya looks good as a pure batsman. If he can improve it further, it'd be great for the team.
 
He performed in a dead rubber just like Jadeja and Shardul Thakur. Let's see how he plays now because fans will be expecting him to finish and win matches for India. Interesting times ahead. :inti

Good knock. Most of his good knocks with the bat seems to have come up against Australia only.

He also scored 21-bsll 45 against NZ in a winning cause & an unbeaten odd 40 against Eng to help India chase down 350+, he kept his nerve to finish the game with Ashwin

The was the Man of the series in the Aus series you are talking about. Don't think Imad can achieve something like this in his career. Chances of a series win for Oak against them will be very low. I don't even remember when Pakistan last won an Odi series against Australia.

Anyways, Imad is still better than Faheem, with whom Pak fans used to compare Pandya a few years back. Think they should start a new thread for this comparison.
 
I am telling you guys now. It's all about balance and batting depth.

You need balance.

Bits and parts players are essential in odi and also in tests particularly in Sena.

Australia had 6 bowling options in the first 2 games. it always helps.

India should have pandya at 6, Shankar at 7, Bhuvi at 8, Kuldeep at 9, bumrah and Shami. That way there is depth in batting plus bowling options. Or add in Siraj over Kuldeep depending on pitch formations. You cannot have the same type of bowler as your main 3 strike bowlers. You need a balance.
Bumrah is a hit the deck
Shami hit the deck
Saini hit the deck

You need Bhuvi as he is a good swing bowler. Doesn't matter if he averages slightly over 30. He adds balance and he can bat. He is a perfect support bowler.

Also a supmenetary option of 4th pacer would be essential in Australia and n.z
That's where pandya comes in along with say Shankar or hell even Dube or Thakur. Purely for balance. Doesn't matter of they aren't good. Maxwell and agar or zampa do the same job as mediocre bowlers. You don't have to bee good. You just have to be good enough to either bowl some pie chuckers which could be catchable bowls near the boundary or contain runs and provide rest to main strike bowlers

Batting average is healthy keeping in mind his SR and role of pinch hitting.

If he gets to spend time out there like he did in this series that average will cross 40 easily.

I prefer Pandya at 4-5. He's clearly shown the maturity and seriousness to build long innings.
 
So now Imad is being compared with Pandya , wasn’t there some Fahim Ashraf being compared too ? India is a team perhaps suited to all formats and all conditions. Imad wouldn’t even be in A team of India . Talent wise India is far ahead and if one is really seemingly bothered about match winning abilities of Pandya how much has babar azam performed in high scoring chases . Lets admit it Pandya is indeed a good cricketer. He may be horses for courses or utility player in test cricket but he surely is indispensable in limited overs.

Yes good series by him and confirmed the fact that he can play as a batsman alone. However, he will move down to no.7 eventually as soon as he starts bowling. Jadeja is definitely not a long term solution. India would not go in a world cup with Pandya batting at 6.

I think there are two problems :
1. We have to agree on the what we mean by proove.
2. You overrate him, so we can't agree.

For me, someone who has prooved himself is someone who's place is not in question at all. He is an established player.
This, Pandya is not, yet according to me. But if he continues to perform the way he did in this series (or even less than this) he will quickly be considered a good batsman.

However, what I dislike the most is overrating and he shoudln't be overrated. That was a good innings, maybe you can call it very good but nothing more than this. You know that I rate performances against good bowlers and that was not one. Still a good performance.

He is a phenomenal ball striker and miles ahead of every Asian all-rounder in his age group.

He has an incredible future ahead of him and India are really blessed to have him.

I would happily give up all of Shadab, Imad, Faheem, Asif, Khushdil etc. to someone like him our team. He is that good.

Mind you Pandya is not totally fit as you can him see holding his back which got operated every time. It is definitely hampering some his power hitting especially in off side. A fully fit Pandya is even more dangerous. Hope he recovers from the back problem soon as he is an asset to the side.

This is what he's capable of. Winning matches for India single handedly with the bat. Good to see that now he's turning his performances into match winning ones. Previously he would play these cameos but they didn't result in wins. Now he's played two great innings, both resulting in wins.

And to think people actually compared him to Faheem Ashraf and thought Faheem could be a better allrounder. Lol.

He is a genuine world class allrounder congratulations my man. You are officially a top player in Tyron's book. That's a huge success imo.

He can translate this into tests imo. He has the potential. Outside India in particular for depth. Good luck. Well done today.

Asif Ali is has no batting intelligence. He can hit sixes but you cannot finish games if you do not have match-awareness.

On current form I think Hafeez can. Maybe Imad as well but only if you bowl in his strong areas.

Pandya is a different beast.

yet you guys overrate Babar Azam.. he has just 1 test century outside Asia, and he is compared with legends like Kohli, Smith, Williamson who has scored runs all over the world.
Pandya is definitely and established player. If he bowls.. he will play most of the test matches outside India as well.

He scored vs Aussie best attack in odi as well. I am done doubting. The great Tyron who is the eternal skeptic has changed his mind. I am sure BHag viru will as well eventually.

He is very good but people need to be humble here. This was a cr@p bowling attack. The least you expect from a player of his ability is to play like this against it.

I would give up all our specialist batsmen, let alone allrounders to get Pandya. Bar Babar, he's better than everyone else.

Pant is another phenomenally gifted striker and like Pandya, he will also serve a lot of humble pies in due time.

India knows what the long-term investment he will prove to be and they will not give up on him. They will continue to work with him and help with minor adjustments which is all he needs.

Both Pandya and Pant have the ability to average around 40 at a SR of 120+ while batting at 5 and 6. This type of explosive middle lower-order is exactly what a top-heavy team like India has missed in recent years.
 
As I said before, Pandya does not belong in the Indian ODI team if he is not bowling.

Refuse to believe they aren't any batsmen better than him in India.

T20 you can get away with it but ODI it completely ruins the team balance. Jadeja is ahead of him as he bowls.

India won, Pandya played well, he's still not the best player in the team or the greatest allrounder in the world and I still don't like him much (and neither do I love IPL, for your reference). Scores runs = no pressure
Doesn’t score runs = pressure, can’t handle good bowlers

Scores against weak attack = meh, it was a weak attack

Doesn’t score against weak attack = haha, he is so overrated he cannot even perform against weak attacks.

As I said, Pandya cannot win from people who have already decided that he is not good and will thus downplay every good performance and exaggerate every bad performance.

But the important thing is that India knows what he’s worth, he has the backing of the selectors and the captain and they will reap the reward.

Why so serious bro? You just need to read that match thread. Most of these posters who are jumping now were comparing Indian bowling attack with Australia's. Most of them were calling it India C vs Aus C. Now suddenly Australian bowling attack has become world class because Pandya ji has finished the match for the first time in many years. :inti
