What's new

Is Haris Rauf ready to represent Pakistan in Tests?

I think there is nothing to gain from a 29 year old who is better suited to just limited overs cricket

We could ruin one of our potential match winners in ODI/ T20i cricket by wearing him down through Test cricket

This. SAF understood this with Imran Tahir and prolonged his career. Rauf is a pacer and test cricket is too grueling to be starting at 29.

Next 2 yrs there are 2 more white ball world cups. Let him develop 50 over skillset as well and focus only on 2 formats

Rauf should not be in the test xi he won't last all three formats pluss he won't be able to keep the same speeds in tests.

Reports indicate that Haris Rauf will be picked for the Test series vs England - could well make his debut.

He should play the first test as Shaheen should not be Risked.
I don't know if we are going to go with 2 fasts or 3 fasts.

I want him to do well and love his attitude and his effort levels, but I do worry that he's being pushed into Test cricket after playing only 8 First-class matches.

We have this tendency to push players into formats that they don't have much experience in when they are doing well in other formats.

Haris Rauf being selected for the Test series against England is yet another demented selection in Pakistan's seemingly never ending madness.

Haris has never played FC cricket at a stretch where his body has become used to the rigours of Test match cricket. While fast bowling is an art, it is also a science where you body needs to adapt itself to bowl 20 overs in a day.

What Haris has done over the past 3 years is play a lot of T20 cricket where you bowl 4 overs split in 2 over spells with the occasional ODIs scattered in between. To suddenly throw him in Test cricket, you are risking two things:

1) His confidence getting an absolute thrashing due to him getting absolutely destroyed as he lacks the ability to bowl a consistent line and length as required in Test match cricket.

2) Him getting injured as his bowling muscles are not developed yet to sustain the rigours of Test match cricket.

The downside of both of the above points is that in less than a year, there is an ODI world cup where you absolutely need Haris Rauf to be at the top of his game. If he gets injured, he will not be the same bowler as he is right now once he comes back from injury.

So overall, it's a completely mad decision to have someone in the Test arena when he hasn't played much first-class cricket overall. Why can't the PCB understand that there needs to be separate players for separate formats?

Haris played 5 fc games in county championship he is just fine.

We need to stop wrapping our players in cotton wool. On average we will play just 6 tests a year over the next 5 years. No one is getting fatigue playing just 5-6 tests every year.

The likes of Imran, Wasim and Waqar would play full season of county plus 7-8 tests and 25-30 odis they just coped fine. The current generation can also handle this amount of cricket. Atop pampering them.

He may start very well as he will be giving everything. And also red cherry with 3 or 4 slips he can create some chance at pace. But there is no telling how he will grow as genuine fast bowling is one of the most thankless job in cricket. I have witnessed only two guys doing that consistently at test level. Akhtar and Lee. Shane Bond didn't last long. Johnson at his peak. Others can touch 145k, 150k but they don't always bowl at that speed for sustained period of time. Once his speed drops he has to bank on other skills. It will be interesting how he shapes up. Generally career of these guys are very short due to wide range of potential niggles. So they have to make the most of it during that period.

Haris Rauf:

“Shaheen’s absence will hurt Pakistan’s bowling attack. However, the rest of the bowlers are also confident ahead of the series.”

“Getting a Test cap is important for every player. I will perform to the best of my ability if I make my debut in the first Test. The bowling mindset is different in red-ball cricket as compared to white-ball matches. I’m practicing while keeping this in mind.”

“We know that England likes to play aggressive cricket, and we are preparing accordingly in order to tackle it during the series.”

Good ball to remove Crawley

Waste of a high quality white ball pacer in Test match on this road.

After his maiden Test wicket

Should be his first and final Test

Honestly, even if he is good enough at this level you will just wear him down like you did with Wahab Riaz

Wahab was a proper 93mph+ pace bowler who’s body took a huge toll from the toil he took in the UAE on dead wickets

He doesn't move the ball an inch, so it was obvious that he would get smashed on pattas.

Rauf has pace and extracts bounce, the only place where he can play tests is Aus and Sa but even there you can't be erratic otherwise you will be smashed.

He is a right-handed Wahab Riaz. There is nothing special about him.

Irrespective of the format, he will always be on the cusp of completely losing it & getting hammered.

He is not young, he is not very skillful. He is just fast. I fail to see why our fans rate him so highly & get so excited over him.

Sadly I fully expect that Haris Rauf will be injured sooner or later after being put through the riguors of Test cricket on back-breaking pitches.

he is a good white bowler full stop

the idiosyncrasies of Test cricket are too much for him in fact his pace helped batsman to settle in early,

Why not if he remains fit. His natural length is up to the batsman. Can shape away the new ball and reverse swing the old one. Rawalpindi pitch is dead it is one of the slowest ever, cant judge him here

Haris off the field. As per PCB. Haris rolled over the ball while fielding yesterday and felt discomfort in his right quad. While there are no signs of injury, he is being monitored by the team medical staff.

As per reports:

Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf underwent Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) at the hospital on Friday during the ongoing first Test against England in Rawalpindi.

:)) Crazy smart posters on this forum I must say who can clearly be seen predicting this happening.

Whats the point of bowling at 150 km/hr plus if you cant play enough test cricket?

Even playing day in day out in these leagues world wide will take a toll on the body, just look at Malinga's decline.

Are we still waiting to hear if he would be able to bowl again in the match?

From PCB:

Haris Rauf went for the MRI and the PCB are awaiting the final reports

Hope he’s ok. . . .

Not really!

Haris rolled over the ball while fielding on the first day of the match.

This makes it more difficult for Pak in the remainder of the match now. Bad news for Haris who will probably miss the rest of the series.

The idiocy of PCB should be lauded first with Shahee and now Haris, sack the fitness squad

As per reports Haris Rauf will miss the second test. He has been advised complete rest for the next ten days.

Rauf is so overrated. No skills, just pace. The way he runs during his run up, it seems like he has got no plan. Just brainless bowling. Basically another Wahab Riaz.

He’s been pathetic in odis. Getting a free ride based on t20. But I must remind people some experts think he better than shaheen.

He was only better than shaheen during death overs. But that myth also got disappeared in todays game when he got hammered by a number 7 in death overs when match was in the hands. He is a clueless bowler once he gets started hitting.

Looks like marriage has a detrimental effect on his performances like Hassan Ali. Need to stop make cringy videos with your other half and concentrate of what got you that wife, your cricketing skill!

Lets hope Shaheen doesn't fall into this trap when he returns from injury.

He has been a failure in ODIs. Was terrible on the tour to SA, got carted around in England and now he’s been average here. Definitely hasnt secured his World Cup spot but I dont see anyone that could play ahead of him

His speed was down in the backend. It was 138 kph or there about. I think he is a specialist T20 bowler. Pakistan is trying to convert him into a specialist ODI bowler.

Needs to be inducted into test cricket. Pakistan cricket needs his speed.

Absolutely not, Haris Rauf cannot pitch the ball in the same area twice in a row.. pathetic bowler

He should never represent Pakistan again, EVER..!!

Bro I heard this term on YouTube also today. What’s a Tepiya
Harris Rauf is Tepiya just like Babar is Zimbabar and Rizwan is Legwan or Leggu

He bowls with the mindset of a ‘tape ball’ street bowler.
