Haris Rauf being selected for the Test series against England is yet another demented selection in Pakistan's seemingly never ending madness.
Haris has never played FC cricket at a stretch where his body has become used to the rigours of Test match cricket. While fast bowling is an art, it is also a science where you body needs to adapt itself to bowl 20 overs in a day.
What Haris has done over the past 3 years is play a lot of T20 cricket where you bowl 4 overs split in 2 over spells with the occasional ODIs scattered in between. To suddenly throw him in Test cricket, you are risking two things:
1) His confidence getting an absolute thrashing due to him getting absolutely destroyed as he lacks the ability to bowl a consistent line and length as required in Test match cricket.
2) Him getting injured as his bowling muscles are not developed yet to sustain the rigours of Test match cricket.
The downside of both of the above points is that in less than a year, there is an ODI world cup where you absolutely need Haris Rauf to be at the top of his game. If he gets injured, he will not be the same bowler as he is right now once he comes back from injury.
So overall, it's a completely mad decision to have someone in the Test arena when he hasn't played much first-class cricket overall. Why can't the PCB understand that there needs to be separate players for separate formats?
