Is it the best strategy to seal the whole city for fool-proof security of a cricket match?

I'm sure if the PCB does go the private route and allows people like Malik Riaz (or others, let's keep politics out of this) to build stadiums for them, wouldn't be too much of a problem. Like the one, he's building in Karachi, I'm sure he can build in other parts of the country as well. Or even Mansha or someone.

Heck, allow the provinces to build and manage stadiums (like Australia does I think). That way, if the province wants a match to be played in a particular city then they have to bid and manage the stadium to the modern day requirements.

Is it feasible for a pvt owner to build a stadium and 5 star hotel just for 3-4 matches a year? How will he recover cost and make profit?

If we build a stadium that can hold international matches with ease PSL automatically comes back home. Return will be much faster if we consider PSL giving back the returns in chunk for the investor i.e.

why wil PSL give back money to stadium investor? they wll rent the stadium and make payment. If PCB wants to compensate stadium builder than they can do so..

It is not easy to make money building a stadium and a five star hotel next to it. Most of the big metropolises like Karachi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Dhaka are already crowded and real estate is at a premium. The investors won't be able to afford anything in the downtown and can only build it away from the city.. Once the stadium is away from the city it is less accessible and the hotel becomes more or less exclusively dedicated to the stadium. Why would any business conference happen that far away from the city center? who will rent and use it when it is in the middle of nowhere.. Mohali, Dubai are all prime examples for this

If the staidum is in the center of the city it can be used for more often and many local clubs will be based out of it. Commute will be easy and it will be easier to monetize..

Dude what are you talking about ??? There is plenty of ample space in Karachi which can hold a Stadium and a hotel (if need be) and you don't have to go out of the city at all.

Defence phase 8 is totally empty and can easily hold such a project. It's 30 mins drive away from my home and my house is literally on main Sharah-E-Faisal which is THE main Sharah (reads road) in Karachi.

Also Malir especially places near Bhains Colony can totally hold such a project so space and proximity is not an issue at the moment.

Most of the Abadi lives north of the city and the south side still has a few places were we can kinda make such stuff!

Residents criticise roads blockade as Sindh govt releases PSL traffic, security plans

KARACHI: While welcoming the holding of the final match of Pakistan Super League (PSL) in the city on March 25, 2018, the people of Karachi have vehemently criticised the Sindh government for security arrangements including blocking of major and linking roads around National Stadium three days prior to the final match, it emerged on Thursday.

Earlier in the morning, the law enforcers including police, traffic police and Rangers blocked all the U-turns on all the major roads around the National Stadium, while the road from Hassan Square towards Agha Khan Hospital, main stadium road from Millenium Mall to Stadium, and from New Town to Stadium were barricaded by parking water tankers.

The stadium road is the busiest road of the metropolis as it locates the largest private hospitals Agha Khan Hospital, Liaqat National Hospital, SRE Majeed, naval and air force residences, Civic Center (headquarter of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation), Bahria University, Karachi Schools of Arts, Indus University and others.

Interestingly, all the shops and markets on these roads including Millenium Mall, Saima Mall, Times Medicos, Murad Medicos several others were forcibly closed by the police and were allowed to reopen on Monday, March 24. The worst affected are the residents of dozens of societies that surround the national stadium.

“I requested the security personnel to allow me to go home however they are not allowing me to enter SRE Majeed. Now, what should I do? Do we have to pay for the PSL final for three days”, a commuter complained while talking to the scribe.

City’s Traffic Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Imran Yaqoob told Pakistan Today that Rangers will have security control of the stadium whereas 8,500 policemen and 1,600 traffic wardens will be deployed across the city to assist commuters in avoiding traffic jams and other hurdles.

He said according to the traffic plan, five designated places – three on University Road and one each at Kashmir Complex and on Dalmia Road have been reserved for parking and shuttle services. An empty ground near Urdu University, Sunday Bazaar and an empty ground next to the Hakeem Saeed Park are among the shuttle services and parking zones situated on University Road.

The shuttle service will drop spectators to three dropping zones: Aga Khan University Hospital’s Gate 3, Bahria University and the Expo Centre. All the points are about 200 to 300 metres from the stadium, the DIG added.

The officers said that the three busiest thoroughfares of the city – Sharah-e-Faisal, Sharah-e-Pakistan and Rashid Minhas Road will not be closed for vehicular traffic, but the routes leading to and from Hassan Square and New Town will be closed for traffic from 11 am till the end of the match.

He said that the spectators will go through many security checks and walkthrough gates. “Besides the government, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Rangers, police, army helicopters and Special Service Group (SSG) commandos of the Pakistan Army are also part of the security arrangements,” he explained.

“The match will start at 7pm, but the stadium’s gates will close at 5pm,” he explained, adding that only mobile phones be allowed, while food or mobile phone chargers will not be allowed. Food will be available for purchase inside the stadium by designated vendors of the PCB”, he concluded.

JPMC ALLOCATES 150 BEDS TO CATER EMERGENCY SITUATION

Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) allocated 150 beds to counter any possible emergency situation on the occasion of PSL final match.

The beds have been allocated to Accident & Emergency Department and extra-wards established at the hospital for this purpose. All kind of life-saving medicines are available in health care centre while the presence of doctors, paramedical staff and nurses would also be ensured.

So they're blocking traffic at some distance from the stadium, how is that closing down a city??

Gotta give it to PCB. They are trying really hard to bring back cricket to pakistan and it's fans. I can forsee teams like Bangladesh, SriLanka, WestIndies, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe touriing every once a year or so but that's pretty much where it will stop for the moment. But atleast its a step towards the right direction.

We need to bring it to a point where we can put the likes of England, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa to shame by questioning their refusal to tour Pakistan and how credible their concerns over security in Pakistan are when the likes of Zimbabwe, West Indies, Bangladesh, West Indies, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka e.t.c. have toured Pakistan successfully without any problems.

I donno what you mean by "shame".

I don't want to get into the debate about this again but they have all the right reasons to be concerned. Their security team gave them a no no. Neither Bangladesh nor SriLanka toured after that horrific incident. Where are you getting this from? Might want to fact check.
