Joe Root has now won 18 out of 24 tosses in test cricket.

100% tosses won against India.

In the process he has won 12 tests out of 24, 10 out of these at home.

Do you feel the results could have been very different had he lost more tosses?

Yes.. Williamson winning the toss played a crucial role as well in first test.

I think Aus is where it doesn't matter..but that's jus imo.

Yes especially in Asia I agree toss plays a huge role as the pitches usually break up over days 4/5 turning them into minefields. In that aspect Root has been very lucky winning 8 tosses in a row.

At home, it matters less but in away matches, your chances of winning a test match falls rapidly if you don't bat first. I had circulated stats a couple of months back that how in the last 7-8 years, in less than 4% or 5% cases visiting teams have won matches batting second. It just doesn't happen.

Very interesting. Could you share those stats here please?

Well, you could also say he is very unlucky to have inherited a team with arguably the weakest top-order batting of any England team in the last hundred years.

Whether or not root is lucky, doesn't matter because to achieve away series wins you need to have a little bit of luck going for you, and Root deserves every bit of that luck. The fact is he won the last match after conceding first innings lead, how many visiting teams are able to do that? Plus let's not forget, he's winning test matches with bowlers like Leech and to some extent Adil Rashid, who don't have much test experience.
