Misbah-ul-haq once famously proclaimed Sarfaraz Ahmed as the "oxygen" which keeps the Pakistan team going. It seems that his successor has arrived in the form of Mohammad Rizwan, and frankly he looks a lot more deserving of this accolade than his predecessor.
After a sterling 2021 in which the highly talented Rizwan was adjudged the ICC T20i player of the year, the Multan Sultans captain was then adjudged 2022 PSL Player of the Tournament, tallying second to Fakhar Zaman in the run-scorer list with 546 in 12 innings at 68.25, including seven fifties. He was also named the best wicketkeeper apart from being awarded the Spirit of Cricket Award in the 2022 PSL.
The way he has adjusted his batting style to transform from an accumulator of runs to a dynamic destroyer of attacks in T20s alludes to his adaptability.
Coupled to his humility and willingness to play in a way which most benefits the team makes him, in my opinion, the rightful owner of the title "Oxygen for the Pakistan team".

When Misbah used that term ; it was very apt

Still remember how Sarfaraz induction against SA in 2015 WC entirely changed the team

No doubt, if Shadab became regular in tests he would be too. Fawad is also key player and livewire in Tests, his bowling is under utilised.

Rizwan brings in a good/positive vibe. I think it is not wrong to call him the oxygen.

He is well liked by the team and respected by all. Literally walks on water...
