What's new

Is PML-N the worst political party Pakistan has ever produced?

No, the honour is definitely earned by the PPP. They have an unchallenged majority in Sindh yet have nothing to show for it in decades. They intentionally keep their constituents uneducated, divided along ethnic lines and enslaved so they can stay in power.

Just look at the state of interior Sindh. It's literally a feudal society from the 1800s. Yet PPP wins unopposed.

PPP cannot even provide the powerhouse of the country, Karachi, with basic necessities like water, transit, security. Yet they're winning the by elections. Could not even get a bus running in a city of 15 million+ until federal government under PTI had to build the first track. Let's not even get started on the rampant crime.

They kill those who try to stand against them and not only protect the killers but cheer them on.

Lanat on the pseudointellectuals and wannabe liberals who can support such an inhumane and disgusting party.

They were left in the lurch and the official indifference triggered huge protests against the government where protesters pledged not to vote for the PPP ever. Johi, another tehsil of the district, was also devastated by the deluge. The people, left abandoned by the government, had done whatever they could on a self-help basis to salvage their town.

Surprisingly, the PPP candidates swept all seven wards of Johi town, according to the local bodies' (LB) election results. Moreover, Khoso said, "In some cases, the candidates also bribed the poor voters through local influential people."

Dr Najma Noor, a sociologist who severed as chairperson of the sociology department at Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur Mir said people living in Sindh like other parts of the country are trapped under the influence of feudalism.

The evidence is clear from satellite images of the period during which there was a stay on the hydrant’s operation. In April this year, the dispute was said to have been resolved and the hydrant operations ‘bought’ for Rs7 billion by the son of a well-known criminal lawyer and PPP senator.

The same ringleader also had two extra filling points installed at the Manghopir hydrant for the benefit of a PPP MPA from Tharparkar, ostensibly to provide water to KANUPP (Karachi Nuclear Power Plant) but according to KWSB sources, no questions are asked of him as to where the water is actually delivered.

According to a hydrant contractor, a PPP leader prominent in Karachi politics, and who also holds a senior KWSB post, boasts the biggest daily quota — 300,000 gallons. For these fortunate souls, these tens of thousands of gallons of precious water are theirs to do with as they please — fill their swimming pools, water their lush lawns, bestow on friends, or indulge in their own tanker business on the side. This cushy arrangement would certainly be imperiled were power to be truly devolved to the third tier.

Finally, some good news for the people of Karachi. Prime Minister Imran Khan inaugurated the city’s much-delayed Green Line Bus Rapid Transport System (GL-BRTS) last Friday.

The people of Karachi have for decades cried for a decent, safe and affordable public transport system. They have been given everything but this. The failure of the two major political parties of the province — the PPP and the MQM — to put together such a system suggests that there was a lot at play. Where did they go wrong?

The deceased's family has alleged that PPP leaders and their henchmen tortured the victim to death as he filmed their guests hunting the endangered houbara bustards.

Moreover, the case took a twist when the widow of slain Nazim Jokhio gave in to the pressure of the powerful feudal family, saying that she was pardoning all suspects accused of her husband’s murder.

In a video message, Shireen Jokhio said she wanted to fight but had been left “all alone by her own people” adding that she had taken the decision to pardon out of compulsion and for the safety of her children.

Secondly, the local PPP leadership is a beneficiary of party’s corruption as it gets shares in jobs, contracts and commissions.

This is the development model that the PPP follows. It has the networking ability and it can satisfy some quarters by providing a few jobs, building some roads, and installing water pumps and electricity lines.

Sindh’s middle class is weak and its intellectuals are weak, and it is their inability that has resulted in the lack of alternatives to the PPP.

This why the PPP continues to be the winner.

PML-N stalwart flays own party for ‘toeing establishment’s line’

Former chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan has criticised the leadership of his own party, saying its policies have made Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz ‘a party of establishment’.

Addressing party workers here on Wednesday, he asked them to stand up for their respect and dignity. However, he asked them to remain disciplined and quiet during the visit of PML-N chief organiser Maryam Nawaz Sharif to Abbottabad today (Thursday). “My leader’s daughter is coming and she should not be disrespected by any means though I was not consulted about her visit,” he added.

Sardar Mehtab enjoys a strong position not only in Hazara but also in the entire province and even in centre. He remained chief minister, governor and federal minister.

He said that such a large federal cabinet in the current economic crisis was tantamount to destruction of the country. He said that currently all those, who had stabbed Nawaz Sharif in the back, were sitting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to weaken PML-N.

PML-N to seek recusal of ‘biased’ SC judges in cases against Nawaz, others: Sanaullah

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said on Wednesday that PML-N’s legal team will be approaching two judges of the Supreme Court to recuse themselves from hearing the cases against the party leadership.

In a series of tweets, Sanaullah named the judges and alleged that they “have a biased attitude towards the PML-N”.

Sanaullah recalled that one of the judges had been the supervising judge in cases against party supremo Nawaz Sharif and “we have no expectations of justice from him”.

He also mentioned a purported audio leak related to the second judge, saying that it had “raised questions on his impartiality”.

The minister went on to say that both judges had passed “opposing” verdicts in dozens of cases against Nawaz and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, including Panama, Ramzan Sugar Mills, and Pakpattan Land Allotment (against the Sharifs’ family members).

He said it was a legal and judicial tradition that “controversial” judges voluntarily recused themselves from the bench at the request of the aggrieved party.

“The legal team of PML-N will ask the two judges to recuse themselves from the benches hearing the cases of Nawaz Sharif and other leaders of the party,” Sanaullah stated, adding that the two judges will be asked not to hear cases of the PML-N.

The development comes a day after PM Shehbaz completed consultation with the legal brains of the government during a meeting on Tuesday.

PML-N finally concedes to elections in Punjab, K-P
Shehbaz invites applications for party tickets from candidates in Punjab

While Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had been vocal about postponing elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) and had even used its position of power in the Centre for the purpose, it seems to have finally come to terms with the reality of elections and the repercussions of stonewalling the Supreme Court (SC) orders as party President Shehbaz Sharif has invited application from candidates for party tickets and instructed the party to prepare for the polls.

Shehbaz has called for applications for party tickets from interested candidates from Punjab. He has also directed the party’s parliamentary boards to finalise the lists of the candidates for Punjab and K-P. He has further directed the candidates to submit the papers in their respective constituencies in view of the announcement of March 14 as the last date for the submission of nomination papers in Punjab by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

For submitting applications, candidates have been instructed to approach the central party secretariat at 180-H Model Town. The party president has also instructed the workers to prepare a plan for running an election campaign.

On to plan B, arrest Imran Khan and prevent him from campaigning. Due to their decades worth of rigging experience, PPP and PMLN probably won't get blown away this election. Should be a crushing defeat for them nonetheless.

NAB closes inquiry against PM aide Amir Muqam

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, has closed an inquiry against Adviser to Prime Minister Amir Muqam regarding corruption, corrupt practices and accumulation of assets beyond known sources of income.

“Based on the findings of the final inquiry report and recommendations of executive board meeting, the competent authority has approved the case for closure,” said an official letter issued by NAB.

The letter informed Mr Muqam about closure of the inquiry and said that closure of the case only related to allegation of corruption, corrupt practices and assets beyond known means of income.

It said that closure of the case would not affect any other case if already under inquiry and should not prevent initiating any new cases under the ordinance.

On May 6, 2020, Peshawar High Court summoned NAB’s investigation officer conducting inquiry regarding Mr Muqam’s assets since he had sought pre-arrest bail in the case. The court had fixed the case for June 11, 2020. The high court had already granted Mr Muqam an interim pre-arrest bail on condition of furnishing two sureties of Rs1 million each.

The government has now brought all the sche*mes under the umbrella of the Prime Minister’s Youth Development Initiatives.

The mechanism for the youth-oriented scheme has yet to be worked out.

The 15 youth development initiatives include 60,000 internships, technical and vocational training for 100,000 youths, 100,000 laptops, 5,000 scholarships for students of Balochistan and the erstwhile Fata, 1,000 PhD scholarships at the top 100 US universities, 75 scholarships at top 25 universities of the world, 21 university campuses in remote districts, 250 sports complexes, youth peace and development student councils in 80 universities, 75 leadership awards, 500 innovation grants worth Rs5-20 million each, Rasta grants for research, 12 Seerat chairs, seven centres of excellence, and uplift of 20 poorest districts in Pakistan.

“The two-thirds of the country’s population is based on young people who must be empowered through education and skills so that they can contribute to the socio-economic development of the country,” Mr Iqbal told the ceremony participants.

PMLN will contest general polls without alliance
Nawaz Sharif supports ruling alliance's stance against pre-election opposition to polls, citing constitutional concerns

The ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) will contest the next general elections independently, without going into any electoral alliance, and the polls will be held strictly according to the Constitution on the completion of the mandated period of the National Assembly.

The PMLN will kick-start its countrywide election campaign from May 28, on Youm-e-Takbeer, when PMLN Quaid and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif went for the detonation of six nuclear devices on this day against India’s five.

Nawaz Sharif will deliver a historic message on the day that would be heard and shown across the country. The decision has been taken in an important meeting between visiting Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif with his elder brother and party Quaid Nawaz Sharif in London.

Nawaz Sharif has eulogized the alliance of ruling parties in upholding the supremacy of parliament and impressed upon the prime minister to stand by the policy and no compromise should be permitted on this count. He has asked for holding elections in the country on the same day under caretaker governments.

Nawaz Sharif appreciated the view of the ruling alliance on the question of opposing polls in any province before the general elections. He termed it against the spirit of the Constitution that ensures free and fair polls.

Well-placed political sources told The News here Saturday that the two leaders extensively discussed the economic and political situation in the country, especially price-hike and judicial matters. The sources said that Prime Minister Shehbaz, who is also the President of the PMLN, would chair a high-echelon meeting of the party tomorrow where all stalwarts, including Party’s Chief Organiser and Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz Sharif, will be in attendance. He will take the party leadership in confidence on discussions with Nawaz Sharif

Ruling alliance sees red over Imran’s ‘release’
Ruling party leader accuses CJ Bandial of acting as "shield" of PTI chief

The Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) leaders sharply reacted to the Supreme Court order declaring Imran Khan’s arrest illegal, and severely criticised the apex court chief for allegedly benefiting only one individual in any way.

A three-member bench — headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial and comprising Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar — issued the verdict on PTI’s petition challenging Khan’s arrest. Reacting to the SC order, PMLN Chief Organiser Maryam Nawaz criticised Chief Justice Bandial, asking him to step down from the post and join the opposition party, PTI. “The chief justice was very happy today to meet the criminal who plundered Rs60 billion from the national exchequer and he [CJP] was even more happy to release this criminal,” the PMLN leader said while referring to the CJP’s remarks during the hearing.

The key member of the ruling alliance of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) — a group of 13 political parties — further held the top judge responsible for the attacks on state installations during the violent protests following the arrest of Imran Khan in the Al-Qadir Trust case on Tuesday.

“...[the CJP] is acting as a shield of a fitna [rabble-rouser Imran Khan] and is adding fuel to the fire in the country. You should leave the post of chief justice and join the Tehreek-e-Insaf like your mother-in-law,” she added. Separately, Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) President Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif discussed the SC order about the release of Imran Khan. The two leaders expressed their concerns over the court decision to declare Imran Khan’s arrest as illegal.

The Maulana reportedly informed the prime minister about his serious concerns regarding the decision and shared possible protest strategies with him. The meeting also saw coalition parties of the government consider a unanimous protest against the Supreme Court’s decision. Additionally, the PM contacted the heads of other coalition parties to discuss the political situation in the country.

Shujaat calls for banning PTI

Meanwhile, Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) chief Chaudhry Shujaat has stated that whether there are elections or not, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) will soon learn about its fate and there should be a ban on the former ruling party.

Imran Khan has stated that the PTI will not fade away like the ongoing efforts to eliminate it, asserting that the diminishing vote bank of the PDM would lead to its political destruction.

During an informal conversation with reporters at Islamabad’s Judicial Complex, Imran asserted: “People are not leaving PTI; they are being made to. They are making them (the members) leave the party at gunpoint.”

The PTI chief went on to say that he was “only worried for the party workers and the women” because of how they were being treated by the state and the police.

PML-N ‘backtracks’ on call for generals’ accountability
LAHORE: With the PML-N seemingly undecided what its narrative would be in the upcoming elections, a close aide of PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif has claimed the party was not “demanding accountability of former army chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa and former ISI head Gen Faiz Hamid.”

His statement coincided with reports from London that Mr Nawaz was having second thoughts to his stated position on his demand for accountability of ex-generals and judges.

Addressing a press conference at the party’s office in Model Town on Tuesday, Javed Latif said, “We [PML-N] do not demand accountability of Gen Bajwa and Gen Hamid but only those characters and facilitators involved in May 9 events and mutiny against the head of the institution.” He was referring to attacks on military installations in the wake of PTI chief Imran Khan’s arrest.

Mr Latif’s remarks have raised more questions over the party’s narrative as he is considered close to the elder Sharif and had been quite vocal in his demand to make former generals and judges an example for “conspiring against the ex-PM’s Sharif government” in 2017.

“Although 90 per cent in the PML-N think that Gen Bajwa and Faiz Hamid were responsible [for Nawaz Sharif’s disqualification], we are not demanding any action whatsoever against them.”

Shehbaz leads rallies amid reports of internal strife
Shehbaz had to come to the forefront 'to save the party’s face' as Maryam retreats to party meetings

LAHORE:
With PML-N Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz limiting herself to holding party meetings, Shehbaz Sharif on Friday took charge and led a sizable rally on the peripheries of Lahore City – a move that seemingly lent credence to reports suggesting internal strife.

Shehbaz’s rally came after Maryam opted to limit herself to holding party meetings, following a consensus to refrain from organising a convention-cum-rally for the party's leadership.

In an effort to avoid further harsh criticism, the party had decided earlier this week to cancel rallies in and around Lahore prior to the arrival of party supremo Nawaz Sharif.

The first rally, held at Shahdara, received harsh criticism due to its extremely low turnout. As a result, the event had to be downgraded from a convention to a corner meeting. The second rally, which took place at Thokar Niaz, was widely mocked for allegedly enticing attendees with the promise of monetary gain or free food.

Both of these rallies were led by Maryam Nawaz, who is considered the new face of the party and a crowd-puller.

Uplift funds skewed in favour of PDM lawmakers’ projects

ISLAMABAD: Discretionary spending by parliamentarians under the Sustainable Development Goals Achievement Programme (SAP) accounted for more than a third of the total federal development expenditure in the first four months of the fiscal year, official data showed on Wednesday.

The disproportionate funding towards parliamentarians’ schemes under SAP, whose discretionary funds are considered a tool to muster political support, continues despite a change of government in August and raises concerns over equitable resource distribution, especially during an election year.

Since the vast majority of lawmakers in the previous assembly belonged to the Pakistan Democratic Movement-led coalition, the SAP spending seems skewed in favour of their projects.

This will be the third year in a row that the country’s under-funded infrastructure development will remain constrained by drastic cuts, even in funds allocated by the parliament. Last year, the development programme was marred by massive floods.

Data released by the Planning Commission on Wednesday shows that of the total spending on the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) of Rs76 billion in the four months from July to October, the biggest chunk, Rs27.15bn, was channelled to parliamentarians’ schemes.

This spending amounts to roughly one-third of the total budget allocated for this head, i.e. Rs90bn.

The PDM government, before its term ended in the second week of August, had authorised the release of almost 70pc (Rs61.3bn) of the Rs90bn it had allocated in the budget for SAP schemes within the first three weeks of the fiscal year.

Of the total SAP spending so far, Rs14.4bn was used by August’s end. This rose to Rs27.15bn by the end of October under the caretaker government.

PML-N scouts ‘fresh faces’ for Lahore poll battle

LAHORE: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Friday kicked off preparations for the upcoming elections and decided to strengthen its electoral muscle by ushering in heavyweight political figures within the heart of the political capital with crucial national and provincial assembly seats at stake.

Party insiders disclosed that “a departure from traditional faces” in Lahore's political landscape -- considered to be PML-N's home turf -- is on the horizon as the party is seeking to bring in new candidates from the PML-N ranks.

With 14 seats in the National Assembly and 30 in the Provincial Assembly at stake, the sources said the party is hunting for suitable contenders for all 44 seats within Lahore. For this purpose, a committee has been constituted to deliberate on the allocation of tickets among candidates from Lahore.

To streamline the candidate selection process, the party is set to establish a six-member parliamentary sub-committee tasked with overseeing the distribution of party tickets.

This committee includes Divisional Coordinator Khawaja Saad Rafique, Divisional President Sheikh Waseem Ahmed, PML-N Lahore President Saiful Mulook Khokhar, General Secretary Khawaja Imran Nazir, Divisional General Secretary Pir Ashraf Rasool, and Saud Majeed.

The parliamentary sub-committee is slated to conduct interviews with potential candidates, formulating recommendations for ticket distribution, which will then be submitted to the party's top brass for consideration.

The central parliamentary board will make the final call regarding ticket allocations based on the panel’s evaluations of candidates' past legislative performances and their tenure as previous ticket holders.

Elactables are the ones who will be getting the tickets in the end. Forget the Young blood and new faces to be seen.

Nawaz Sharif on verge of becoming premier for fourth time: Khawaja Asif

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader Khawaja Asif said on Sunday that Nawaz Sharif is on the verge of becoming prime minister for the fourth time.

Addressing the party workers’ convention, Asif pointed out the “diminishing support” for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief, asserting, “The PTI chief’s former allies had formed separate parties.”

He was of the view that it is up to the masses to take the decision at will on February 8.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) senior leader Khawaja Asif said on Sunday that Nawaz Sharif is on the verge of becoming prime minister for the fourth time.

Ns can't win his own seat. Khawaja has about chance winning his seat as he did in 2018 when Bajwa switched off the RTS to save himself.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is grappling with disbelief after the acquittal of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) leader Nawaz Sharif in the Avenfield reference. While the PTI denounces the court’s decision as a “death knell to the justice system,” it continues to label Sharif a “certified criminal.”

The Islamabad High Court's exoneration of Nawaz Sharif, nearly six years after his initial trial, has provoked a strong response from the PTI. The party, which once based its narrative on opponents’ convictions, now contends with the stark reality of the court's decision contradicting its long-standing accusations.

Having built its narrative on branding Sharif as a “thief, dacoit, corrupt, and traitor,” the PTI now faces the challenge of reconciling its past reliance on court judgments with the current acquittal.

“It’s difficult for PTI to accept Nawaz Sharif’s acquittal from a corruption case as its whole narrative was built on this very thing,” eminent political expert, Zaigham Khan said and added, “for the PTI, everyone excluding Imran Khan is corrupt; how can it go against what was an integral part of the Tabdeli [change] project.”

Zaigham said that the PTI’s predicament underscores the complexities of political narratives grounded in legal outcomes, as the party now confronts the unexpected outcome that challenges its foundational anti-Nawaz and anti-PMLN stance. Back then, he recalled, the state machinery was pushing corruption narrative against certain individuals just like it is doing against some others right now.

Commenting on the judiciary’s role, Zaigham said that courts or the justice system was easily used to manage politics, saying several judges were on board back then who interpreted things as they wanted and didn’t even hesitate to create new jurisprudence. The subordinate judiciary, he lamented, followed what had already been decided by the superior judiciary. “It’s highly unfortunate but the judicial process was used for pushing narrative,” he noted.

Professor Tahir Naeem Malik of NUML University said that the PTI finds it difficult to accept the IHC’s decision as it contradicts its whole narrative against Nawaz and PML-N.

Also, the professor added, the PTI is unable to fathom the decision because the general elections are just around the corner and its voters won’t buy the anti-corruption narrative as the previous one has just fallen flat. “Acquittal is the end result of the politically-motivated cases,” Professor Malik said, adding political parties in Pakistan, unfortunately, do not believe in exposing the system as they simply prefer to go after individuals as long as it suits them.

On the judiciary’s role, Malik said that the country, where people have almost no trust on the justice system, puts a big mark on it. He recalled that the PTI had even taken credit for courts’ decision but it is not ready to accept reality now.

On Thursday, the PTI declared that the acquittal of “certified criminal” Nawaz Sharif in Avenfield Apartments reference under the “notorious London secret deal” by placing law and justice in the rear view mirror is a death knell to legal and justice system of the country as he had no proof to prove his innocence in the mega corruption case.

Strongly reacting to the IHC’s decision, PTI spokesperson said that the major relief granted to the “crooked person under a secret deal” was akin to murder of the law and justice system.

In a statement, he noted that the “criminal process of acquitting national criminals” one after another was continued with lightning speed by destroying the country’s institutions and judicial system altogether.

Contrary to the court’s ruling, PTI spokesperson recalled that “the tale of Nawaz Sharif’s ceaseless corruption exposed in the Panama Papers was still fresh in the minds of the nation”. He pointed out that “the saga from fabricated Qatari letter, Calibri font and other evidences like fake trust deeds were enough to prove Nawaz as guilty in Avenfield reference”.

The PTI spokesperson said that a person, who raised the slogan "Respect the vote", was being given major relief through “third NRO, which was a very humiliating and a matter of great concern for the judicial system”.

I strongly share the PTI's disbelief over Nawaz Sharif's acquittal in the Avenfield reference. The court's decision appears to undermine the justice system.

Establishment is the worst political party Pakistan has ever produced.

PTI is the worst party due to the following reasons:

PTI is a fan club of one individual. It is a fashionable MQM. Without Imran, PTI has no reason and no purpose to exist and after Imran, it will disintegrate into small parties.

That is the key difference between PTI and PMLN/PPP - dependency on one individual. The other two parties are dependent on family name. This is why they will survive forever because the Sharif, Bhutto and Zardari family names will continue to live.

PTI stood for tabdeeli but after 2013, it compromised its entire manifesto by welcoming corrupt, crook and failed politicians into the fold to take advantage of their vote banks.

Tabdeeli isn’t just a slogan - it something that you to abuse by each and every day and you cannot achieve tabdeeli with the same old faces who have spent years in politics in different parties without doing anything purposeful.

PTI supporters fooled themselves into thinking that these politicians joined PTI for a greater cause but in reality, they joined PTI to save themselves and this is why they jumped ship when PTI started sinking.

Imran Khan is a freeloader with no self-respect. He has been leeching other people since 1992. He claims that he has very little personal assets but why would you care to have personal assets when you are living off other people and exploiting their assets.

His entire political journey has been funded by shady businessmen who saw him as an investment. Jahangir Tareen spent billions of rupees on Imran and had him travel the country in his private jet with the expectation that he will be handed over CM Punjab seat.

Imran is a beneficiary of corruption and the foundation of PTI was built with black money and misuse of SKMH donations.

SKMH was not built with any noble intentions but it was built to be a money generating tool for PTI. Little did people know that the donations were largely used to fund PTI.

I have not donated a penny to SKMH ever since the reality came to the fore and I never will again because there are plenty of genuine and noble hospitals and charities that don’t use misuse donations for politics.

PTI was used as a tool by the military establishment to bring down PMLN but they realized that supporting PTI was a terrible mistake and quickly chucked Imran out.

Furthermore, PTI will be remember as the government that officially lost Kashmir cause. India implemented a serious lockdown on J&K in August 2019 and PTI couldn’t do anything about it. The outcome of the lockdown was that today, J&K is the most peaceful it has ever been and the state is now thriving.

Imran also got played like a fiddle when he visited Moscow on the eve of the Ukrainian invasion that further isolated Pakistan.

Based on the above points, PTI is the worst party in Pakistan history. The great news is that Imran has lost and his political career is over. As a result, PTI is also finished.

At least you found some heart to comment. Remember you and Major celebrating at the coming of the real PM, a PM that got disowned by his brother as being useless and today AZ also says that SS had no interest in Pk economy, he was too busy trying to destroy IK. What utter humiliation for you and your pathetic ilk that helped to destroy PK economy, its fragile democracy, its media and any tiny bit of Justice. What a win son, what a win with the economy getting smaller each day. Remember IK was the fascist but ask the 10,000 innocent people locked up,ask the widows and the children who the real fascists were

As far as the PTI is concerned A lot of waffle based on tripe. For a start these mafia parties are drowning quicker than your morals. They have no support at all and it's they have unleashed thuggery on PKs, they have kidnapped and killed people, they have smashed the constitution into smithereens in a desperate attempt to survive, they have become nationalised parties of the establishment and still all their combined efforts come to less than 20%.

haha, so according to you a political party has legitimacy only when a family name is attached to it?

Isn’t that considered a form of monarchy or oligarchy based on bloodline? How is that even democratic?

PTI was formed purely to fight this form of democracy justice and insult to democracy, to rid us of the horrors unleashed on us by the sharifs and bhutto zardaris of Pakistan.

PTI has more legitimacy than all other parties based on the definition of a party in a democratic environment.

What PTI was formed for and what PTI ended up are completely different things and this is why PTI ended up as a joke.

You can’t bring tabdeeli by giving party tickets to turncoat, corrupt, crook politicians.

PTI lost its standing when it compromised its manifesto for vote banks. These opportunist politicians deserted PTI as soon as they started to sink which was always on the cards.

Imran cult followers criticize family politics, but family politics ensures long-term survival. You need to have strong roots and a succession plan that the Imran fan club AKA PTI does not have.

But tabdeeli has been brought by the Establishment because they have nationalised all the parties except the PTI 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Look at hypocrisy. The guy went on for hours and told us that SS was a real PM, so real in fact that he destroyed the economy. So humiliating was it for his guys that they told they didn't have 18bn for an election,

But those same politicians joined NS and AZ. And the reason they betrayed PTI was because IK refused to give favours. The cheeni chore are all good in the PML-N and PPP.
But Kaptaan has ended the rule of the mafia. He has brought civilian supremacy and PK will be free. Its not a matter of if but when.

BTW
So IK supporters are cults but you support a bunch of crooks who have as much respect for you as the Establishment have for them. And why are they hated so much if these families are popular.

I will tell you what is humiliating - Imran Khan in prison, his political career is over.

We were told that PTI supporters will destroy anyone who lays a finger on Imran. Well he is in jail and there have hardly been any protests because his supporters are scared to death. How shameful and humiliating.

So by your logic Mandela was also humiliated. But history remembers him as hero who freed SA, whereas Botha and the oppressors are reviled and their supporters run for cover for having tiny brains that failed their morals. They have nationalised parties, the PML and the PPP are owned by the establishment.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

When PKs history is written, it will state that IK freed PK from the clutches of the mafia that no one could actually pin point until now. IK being jailed by the mafia has made IK, it has destroyed your mafia and its hold on PK. Now they there is no where to hide for the establishment, NS, Nani, AZ or Billo. You either keep PK hostage or you will be wiped out.

It must take masochistic tendencies to support people who have held the central government for 30+ years and have delivered nothing but degradation.

I would love it if naybody made a compelling argument in favor of PDM for once in your lives. Tell us why people should vote for the proven failures again. Is it for the sake of the economy? Perhaps it is for the development of industries? Do you have any practical reasons that explain how PDM is objectively better than PTI? These questions might be alien type but these are the questions that are regularly asked in developed nations, someone with the 3rd world mentality(not referring to the true meaning) surely wouldn't understand.

Fascist, establishment lover, dynasty supporter, Darnomics enthusiast, Cultist. It's a shame that a guy who loves to throw labels at people ends up falling under the most disturbing ones.

I'd love to invite you back to the "Economy under PDM" thread. I think a PDM-loving citizen like you must have a lot to appreciate with regards to the economy over the past 2 years. The 40% inflation must've been really tasty.

The mafia came to power when PK was stable and the economy was growing at 6%, this week we learn that infact the economy has retracted. Not only that but all the political parties except the PTI are nationalised, the media is under state control and the 1000s are locked up. But few ppl are happy for his fellow citizens to be kidnapped, tortured and killed.

PML-N kicks off party ticket allocations

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Friday entered a crucial phase in its preparations for the upcoming general elections, announcing the schedule for parliamentary board meetings aimed at selecting candidates for national, provincial, and specific seats.

The schedule, released by the party's central information secretary Marriyum Aurangzeb, outlines a series of crucial meetings set to take place across various divisions and provinces.

The inaugural parliamentary board meeting is slated for Saturday (today) to deliberate on the party ticket from the Sargodha division.

On December 3, the focus will shift to the decision-making process for PML-N candidates in Rawalpindi division. Following this, the party will convene on December 6 to finalise candidates in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Hazara and Malakand divisions.

In the succession of meetings, the allocation of party tickets for various provinces and divisions will be decided.

Notably, Balochistan's candidates will be deliberated upon on December 7, Bahawalpur, and Dera Ghazi Khan divisions on December 8, and Multan division's candidates on December 9.

The sequence will continue, culminating with the meeting regarding the federal capital, Islamabad, and specific seats on December 18.

The rigorous schedule also includes sessions to determine candidates for remaining constituencies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) on December 19 and the distribution of party tickets in the Lahore City division on December 15.

The critical decision-making for PML-N candidates in Sindh province will take place on December 16, signifying a meticulous approach in outlining the party's potential candidates across the nation.

Mirza Shahzad Akbar, a leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former special assistant to the prime minister, has challenged the acquittal of former prime minister Shehbaz Sharif by a special court in Ramzan Sugar Mills and Al-Arabia Sugar Mills money laundering cases.

The court had cleared the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and his son Suleman Shehbaz Sharif of alleged Rs25 billion money laundering charges.

In his petition, Akbar asserted that the court without applying judicial mind discharged the accused persons merely relying upon its own assumptions which was purely contrary to the law.

He sought the Lahore High Court's (LHC) intervention to set aside the court's order it had passed on July 10, 2023, and direct the concerned quarters to take action against the petitioner for allegedly launching false prosecution against the respondents Shehbaz Sharif and Suleman Shehbaz.

He also urged the LHC to quash certain observations deemed detrimental to his reputation, personal life and legal career. Akbar asserted that the initiation of inquiry and subsequent investigation was not influenced by him but rather a result of a directive from the federal cabinet.

He submitted that the then federal cabinet had instructed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to initiate action based on the report of the sugar inquiry commission.

“The direction given in the impugned order against the petitioner lacks substance and is without a proper basis which needs to be set aside,” he added.

The petition stated that the trial court’s observation which contradicts the findings of the higher court, is flawed and without basis. The observation made by the trial court without examining any witnesses is seen as incorrect and is being challenged through the revision petition, which needs to be set aside, it added.

The petition further contends that the trial court’s observations contradict findings from higher courts and were made without examining any witnesses.

He also highlighted the trial court’s approach which he believes is beyond the purview of a trial court which is a statutory court and not a constitutional court.

“The deviation from established legal principles, according to the petitioner, indicates an ambitious attempt by the trial court to pave the way for an acquittal order”, he maintained.

Akbar highlighted an unprecedented approach taken by the trial court during the hearing of applications under Section 265-K of the Cr.P.C. In this instance, the court independently formulated 27 questions, seeking answers from the media, the public, and even the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). Many of these questions, focusing on revenue matters related to the sugar business, were not part of the original charge sheet filed by the investigation agency.

Despite this, the trial court proceeded to solicit answers from the agency, a move that Akbar argues violated legal procedures governing the framing of charges and falls outside the scope of a trial court's authority.

Despite the provision of a list of 100 witnesses in the investigation report submitted under section 173 of the Cr. P.C., the trial court did not call these witnesses for examination.

Akbar further mentioned the presence of financial analysts who prepared a report detailing over 15,000 transactions involving unnamed accounts, totalling Rs16 billion.

Despite this evidence, the trial court discharged the accused individuals based on its assumptions, a move Akbar contends is contrary to the law.

PML-N to give Talal Senate ticket

LAHORE: The PML-N has decided to give a Senate ticket to Talal Chaudhry for his unwavering support for the party in difficult times.

According to sources, PML-N Punjab President Rana Sanaullah conveyed the party leadership’s decision to Talal.

Sanaullah informed Talal that the party had chosen him for a slot in the upper house of parliament.

In a conversation with Talal, Sanaullah said his contribution and sacrifices played a major role in the ouster of the “anti-people” government.

He continued the PML-N appreciated his sacrifices and love, which the party could never forget.

According to the sources, Sanaullah told Talal that not giving him a National Assembly ticket did not mean the party had ignored him but decided to make him a senator.

The PML-N has announced the names of its candidates for seats in the National Assembly and provincial legislatures for the next general elections.

However, the party’s important leaders including Daniyal Aziz and Talal Chaudhry were not given a ticket for any seat of these seats.

On August 2, 2023, the five-year disqualification period of both the PML-N leaders had come to an end.

On August 2, 2018, the Supreme Court had handed down the sentence to both Daniyal and Talal in a contempt of court case.

The then premier Shehbaz Sharif had congratulated both Talal and Daniyal on the conclusion of their sentences in a social media post.

"The darkness of negative actions taken by enemies of Pakistan's prosperity and progress during the past years is dissipating,” the premier wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

"I extend my appreciation to those leaders of PML-N who stood firm alongside the party and its supreme leader, Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, despite the hardships, and remained steadfast," he added.

PMLN Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz Sharif said the party was proud of Talal.

“Courage and conviction do not always roar, sometimes they’re personified by people like you. You stand tall.

Taller than those who victimised you. They are relegated to the dustbins of ugly history while you are the present and the future, Insha’Allah,” she wrote on X.

The sources said the party leadership had decided that former party MPA, Malik Muhammad Nawaz, would be chosen for the slot of the Faisalabad mayor.

Maryam kick-starts PML-N campaign with attacks on PTI

LAHORE: Kick-starting a much-anticipated election campaign, PML-N chief organiser Maryam Nawaz on Monday threw her party’s weight behind the Supreme Court’s verdict in the case pertaining to PTI’s election symbol.

“A terrorist party cannot be allotted an electoral symbol of a political party,” Ms Nawaz told a well-attended rally two days after Imran Khan’s PTI lost its case for its electoral symbol ‘bat’ for not holding intra-party polls as per rules.

The PML-N chose Okara to launch its campaign and Maryam Nawaz travelled to the city to address the rally.

Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif, who held a meeting with economists in Lahore, did not attend the gathering, but they are expected to address rallies in the coming days.

The PML-N had been facing criticism, especially from PPP, for ‘staying indoors’ despite the elections being just a few weeks away.

Maryam Nawaz targeted Imran Khan and his party in her speech, but she preferred not to speak against PPP and its leadership.

She told PTI lawyers to properly prepare the cases next time before the SC as they might not have the facility of ‘mother-in-law’ (a reference to a purported audio leak of the mother-in-law of former CJP Umar Ata Bandial).

She reminded the PTI that from now on the ‘law’ and nation would make decisions.

In an apparent reference to PTI, she declared, “A terrorist party cannot be allotted an electoral symbol of a political party”.

She said the nation would not allow a political party to manipulate its internal elections and escape without any consequences.

“It is not his (Imran Khan) fault as he was used to getting facilitation… Now neither this facilitation is available nor the facilitators remain,” she said and added every ‘single character’ who wronged her father Nawaz Sharif was meeting their fate.

Ms Nawaz told the PTI that its election symbol should have been ‘danda’ (baton) which it allegedly used against the state and military installations on May 9.

Referring to Imran Khan’s recent accusations that Nawaz was playing the match with the help of “umpires” the PML-N leader said: “His [Khan] umpires are caught while the real umpire is the public that will bring her father back to power”.

A “strong government” should be given to Nawaz Sharif to resolve the people’s problems, she added.

During her address, she also indirectly targeted two SC judges Mazahar Ali Naqvi and Ijazul Ahsan, who recently stepped down. “They resigned to avoid accountability. Nawaz Sharif did not take revenge but fate took action against them. The one who is an oppressor is also a coward,” she said.

Economy huddle

Nawaz Sharif held a consultative meeting with experts in Lahore on Monday as part of his party’s preparation of the roadmap to handle economic challenges after coming to power.

“The outcome of the session has resulted in the definitive shaping of economic projects, aiming to revive the nation’s economy and alleviate the public from the grasp of inflation. Decisions were reached to bolster the growth rate, implement tax reforms, address the energy crisis, and manage reductions in electricity and gas prices,” the PML-N said.

It said a comprehensive economic package was meticulously formulated, laying the groundwork for the advancement of agriculture, industry, and the IT sector.

“The meeting also emphasised initiatives to provide employment annually and outlined policies to empower the youth with essential skills. The economic package includes special incentives for agriculture, featuring substantial considerations for the integration of solar energy into agricultural practices. Significant provisions were made for the supply of electricity to domestic consumers,” it said and added that large-scale projects were prioritised, spanning education, health, and infrastructure, reflecting a consensus on advancing overall economic activities with a focus on accelerating national development.

PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif was also present at the meeting. Meanwhile, the National Party’s six-member delegation headed by Dr Abdul Malik Baloch called on Nawaz Sharif. Nawaz paid tributes to the late Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo.

Manifesto

The PML-N was also supposed to unveil its manifesto on Monday, but instead it only shared with the media some parts of the policy document.

In a portion of the manifesto, the PML-N has presented the vision of its possible government of 2024-29.

“PML-N’s vision for 2024-29 is to revolutionise education through a holistic approach that revolves around three key pillars — educate, empower and transform. It is committed to prioritising girls’ education and empowering them to become agents of change and progress.”

Maryam lambasts rivals in fiery Khanewal speech

LAHORE: In a hard-hitting speech at an election rally in Khanewal on Friday, PML-N chief organiser Maryam Nawaz Sharif challenged her political opponents over their claims of not having a level playing field.

“Those who demand a level playing field should come and compete and not run away,” she said while addressing the rally.

She defended her father, Nawaz Sharif, and the party against the accusations of causing inflation, pointing to the large turnout at the rally as evidence that the public does not blame her father for the country’s economic woes.

She recalled the widespread rigging in 2018 and praised the “lions of Khanewal” [the voters] for not voting for another party.

She also highlighted the “controversial removal” of her father from power in 2017, stating that “it was necessary to shut down RTS to defeat him” in the 2018 elections.

The PML-N leader was referring to the state-of-the-art Result Transmission System, which abruptly stopped late at night on July 25, 2018, thus halting the transmission of results.

She denied that her father ever incited “attacks on national institutions”.

While criticising PTI leader Imran Khan, Ms Sharif said her father “had nothing to do with Mr Khan’s current situation” and that he has “left the matter to Allah”.

She accused Mr Khan of inciting the youth to attack sensitive installations, resulting in them facing jail.

Ms Sharif reiterated her father is not seeking revenge despite false accusations “levelled against us by our political rivals”.

She made these remarks a day after PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari called the Sharif family “vindictive”.

In an interview with DawnNewsTV programme News Eye, Mr Bhutto-Zardari said: “They [PML-N leaders] aren’t the ones to forgive. They harbour animosity, seek revenge and balance scores at the right time. They only know the politics of revenge. This is their history.”

However, Ms Sharif added that PML-N leaders and workers remained committed to the party during difficult times.

“Good and bad times are very part of politics, but the PML-N has not left the field and is always ready to serve the masses with a renewed zeal.”

Talking about her personal difficulties, she shared that she was informed about the death of her mother in Adiala Jail, but the support she has always received from the party and the people “increased my determination to serve the people”.

PML-N to ‘oppose’ poll delay tooth and nail

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif, stressing that they would oppose any attempt to postpone the upcoming general elections scheduled for Feb 8, on Saturday said that such a move would be “disastrous” for the country as well as democracy.

The PML-N leader made the remarks in an interview with a private news channel. The nation had been grappling with uncertainty regarding the holding of polls due to the prevailing political and economic conditions in the country.

Last week, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had dismissed the Senate resolution seeking poll delay due to harsh winter weather, asserting that all preparations were in place and that pushing the date was "inadvisable”.

In a letter addressed to the Joint Secretary (Legislation) of the Senate, the election supervisor had conveyed that it would not be prudent to postpone the general elections at this stage, adding that the resolution of the upper house of Parliament cannot be currently implemented.

Earlier, JUI-F chief Maulana Fazur Rehman had also stated that “sky will not fall if polls are delayed for the sake of a better atmosphere”.

During the interview, the PML-N president detailed that they had been busy with the election campaign, saying that his brother and party supremo Nawaz Sharif had conducted interviews of potential candidates, adding that decisions had been taken after due consultations.

“Only 18 days are left in the the general elections. Postponing elections at this time will be ‘disastrous’ for the country and politics. We should go ahead with the polls,” he asserted.

Shehbaz emphasised they would oppose any move to put off the general elections, adding that they will respect whoever the people vote for. The PML-N leader highlighted that the biggest challenge at the moment was to revitalise the economy.

He urged all stakeholders to maintain unity in the better interest of the country.

Shehbaz maintained that the PML-N worked “day and night” for the progress of Pakistan, crediting his party for making the country a nuclear power, bringing in more than $30b investment in CPEC, improving public transport and upgrading the health and education facilities.

When asked why he was not able to manage the depreciation of the rupee against the dollar during his tenure as premier, the PML-N leader recalled that 13 parties had been in alliance in Centre at the time.

Shehbaz said he had saved the country from bankruptcy. He added that the PDM government under his premiership battled hard for the country’s survival without any political agenda.

He also observed that Nawaz would be the party’s candidate for the premiership, hoping that they would gain simple majority in the upcoming polls.

Shehbaz asserted that the PML-N supremo was falsely implicated in cases, including the Panama case, where he was subsequently sentenced.

He said PTI founding member Imran Khan would not have been incarcerated if the May 9 incident had not happened.

Premier's candidate: Shehbaz announces strategy if PML-N fails to get simple majority

Ahead of the February 8 nationwide polls, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday unveiled the party’s strategy for the premier’s candidate if they failed to get a simple majority in parliament.

“Nawaz Sharif would be the party's premiership candidate if the PML-N gained a simple majority in parliament,” the former prime minister said while speaking on Geo News’ special election transmission.

“If we fail to get a simple majority in parliament, the PML-N will decide on the premier’s candidate after consultations,” he added.

He also elaborated on his party’s plan if it managed to secure power after the general elections. “We have to make big decisions. We would need to go for another IMF [International Monetary Fund] programme.”

A party that can't win 30 seats with all the state behind has to be most pathetic bunch of losers ever

They have no ideology and were basically created and propped up by the establishment.

They are the worst party in the history of politics.
basically this , if you see others like PPP, ANP, Jamat Islami, they always had some sorts of left and right wing intelligentsia associated with it :habib jalib, madudi etc .PML-N is basically "Anjuman tajaran Lahore and Gujranwala" with control over police and bureaucracy of Punjab.

They are not the worst atm, they are just behind a party that brought them into power every time. Trying to win the title but the Establishment is too strong here.

I'm curious about the current attitude towards the establishment on this board. Little bit of history lesson indicates that establishment has the same approach for decades. In the past, influx of cash from Us and IMF for various cooperations, eg. china-us rapproachment, Afghan-soviet war, WOT etc etc papered over the cracks pain for the common public.

This sudden unhappiness towards the establishment:

Is this a sudden awakening (after decades of establish worship) and smelling coffee or

a hero worship towards IK?

Is anyone able to explain why PML-N candidates aren’t sharing their Form - 45 to refute the rigging allegations?

Think I read some where that the courts usually take 2 days to make a decision on the form 45, wonder what PTI are doing rn, they can’t afford to sit back and let things cool down.
I am not convinced that some of the guys that are the leadership aren't on the payroll of you know who.

I agree, PPP is worst than Patwari Party which by itself is a very bad party.

Who are they trying to make a fool of? Ishaq dar has enough connections in PML n to be finance minister once against and ruin what's left of this economy.

----------

PML-N choices for finance minister limited

The Pakistan Muslim League-N has not yet finalised its choice for a new finance minister, as it faces a hard decision between appointing the highly experienced Ishaq Dar as the finance minister and bringing in a new face at one of the most critical economic junctures.

The party’s dilemma is that if it decides to replace Dar, it may end up selecting a technocrat, which would deprive it of the claim of having an experienced economic team. The PML-N has not groomed second-tier economic leadership, and without Dar, it might end up relying on technocrats like the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Sources in the PML-N told The Express Tribune that the party is also exploring other options, including considering the names of two bankers. They said that neither Dar nor anyone else has yet been finalised. However, a strong camp in the PML-N is not in favour of appointing Dar to the post for the fifth time, they added. However, the final decision would be made by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who has not yet to share his thoughts about his choice for the position. Dar’s name cannot be ruled out until Sharif shares his thoughts, they added.

Dar has served as finance minister four times and earned the reputation of a ‘tough negotiator’ with the International Monetary Fund. His relations with the IMF are now one of the reasons for the reconsideration of his appointment. However, Pakistan could not successfully complete the last $6.5 billion bailout package, and the blame has been placed squarely on Dar for his handling of the programme. In his speech at the Senate Standing Committee on Finance on June 16th, 2023, the former finance minister said that geopolitics was behind the stalled loan programme, as global institutions wanted Pakistan to default like Sri Lanka and enter negotiations.

The IMF has publicly denied this, while behind closed doors, the US had also complained about Dar’s statement. Sources said that in one of the meetings after Dar’s statement, US Ambassador Donald Blome had explained to Dar that his country did not have any influence on the IMF – a stance that the then finance minister did not agree with. The current IMF deal was finalised after the intervention of the then-PM Shehbaz Sharif.

Where Dar is blamed for the failure of the last programme, he has also been credited with completing the 2013-16 IMF programme.

The sources said that relations with the International Financial Institutions (IFIs) and foreign powers, and the future role of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC), are the key considerations for selecting the nominee for the slot of finance minister.

However, criteria like clarity on strategic relations, political weight, and experience in managing the economy have not been given due weight at this time, according to party insiders.

In case Dar’s name is not chosen and the party decides to appoint a politician, former Minister for Economic Affairs Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and former Power Minister Khawaja Mohammad Asif could be possible replacements. Former Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal might not be keen on taking the responsibility. The PML-N’s choices for appointing a politician as finance minister are limited after the exit of Miftah Ismail and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.

Newly elected Member of the National Assembly Bilal Kyani could either be appointed as the Minister of State for Finance in the centre, or he might be the next finance advisor to the chief minister of Punjab. The PPP has publicly opposed Dar’s candidacy, but its opposition does not carry weight until the party formally joins the next cabinet. The names of Muhammad Aurangzeb, the incumbent President of the Habib Bank Limited (HBL), and Sultan Ali Alana, the chairman of the HBL board, are also being considered for the position, according to some party insiders.

Aurangzeb is considered close to Shehbaz Sharif. Sultan Alana’s name had also been considered for the position of the caretaker finance minister, but then Dr Shamshad Akhtar’s name was finalised. The next finance minister’s first task will be to sit with the IMF, get the last loan tranche of $1.2 billion, and at the same time kick-start negotiations for a new long-term deal. Any inexperienced appointee might find it difficult to sit across the table and negotiate a deal that strikes a balance between economic stabilisation and people’s growing miseries.

One of the considerations for the next IMF programme might be the restructuring of unsustainable public debt. Bringing in a banker as finance minister might raise questions about conflicts of interest. The sources said that the establishment didn’t seem keen on importing a finance Minister this time, particularly after the experience of appointing a central banker from abroad.

PML-N holds meeting on Punjab govt today

The PML-N has scheduled a crucial meeting for its Punjab parliamentary party on Wednesday (today) to deliberate on the formation of the government in the province.

The problem is that most of the people on here are just Imran Khan fangirls who live comfortable lives in the West. They know nothing about the ground reality in Pakistan.

If they actually experienced the harsh conditions Imran Khan brought the country to, they'd never utter his name ever again.

What don't know ground reality? The ground reality is as per Form 45, PTI achieved a 2/3rds majority in KPK, Punjab and National Assembly. The harsh reality in the country right now is the PDM and the establishment and everyone knows what they have done to the country.

My advice is get of twitter and go and see the reality. Wake up and smell the coffee.
But 180 seats out of 270 is the greatest achievement in PKs political history. That is the ground reality. The other ground reality is that both family dynasties are now nationalised. Their fate entirely intertwined with the thugs in boots.

Definitely the worst party most illetrate people are part of this party, in fact parties like Mqm and Ji have educated persons unlike this N league. The Draculs and henchmen in this party are evolving, From Rana Sanaullah to Kh Asif the baton has passed to Atta Tarrar & M Aurangzeb
A huge no of corrupt & goon politicians are in this party.

PML-N claims Imran seeking NRO from US, IMF

Ahsan Iqbal, a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader, on Saturday claimed that the PTI was seeking a National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) from the United States and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for its founding chairman, but he (PTI founder) must prove his innocence in a court of law.

The NRO was a controversial ordinance issued by former president Gen Pervez Musharraf in 2007. It granted amnesty to politicians, political workers and bureaucrats who were accused of corruption.

The PML-N leader’s statement came after Imran, who is incarcerated at Adiala Jail in different cases, reportedly wrote a letter to the IMF asking that lending to the cash-strapped country be tied to an independent audit of the disputed Feb 8 elections.

While 31 members of the US Congress recently signed a letter to President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken urging them to not recognise a new government in Pakistan until an investigation into allegations of election interference has been conducted.

Speaking to the media flanked by PML-N leader Ata Tarar, the former planning minister said: “The PTI founder will not receive the NRO. He must demonstrate his innocence in court.”

In response to a query, Iqbal commented: “The PTI has a track record of instigating chaos and involvement in electoral rigging. The National Assembly speaker rejected the PTI’s claims.”

Expressing optimism regarding the PTI, Iqbal highlighted his party’s stance of not opposing the nomination of Omar Ayub for contesting the election of the prime minister, emphasising the PML-N’s adherence to democratic principles. Denouncing disruptive political tactics, he stressed zero tolerance for anarchic practices

PML N trying to introduce tik tokers and YouTubers in the assembly.

PML-N women reserved seats: YouTuber’s nomination withdrawn after backlash

Maryam Ikram, a PML-N YouTuber, managed to sneak into the party’s list of women nominated for reserved seats in the National Assembly but saw it withdrawn as a storm rose within the party, questioning her political credentials: all this happening within a few days.

Ms Ikram has been making TikTok videos for the PML-N and also used to sneak into the PTI camps — particularly in the Zaman Park gatherings — to clinch “quick followers, likes and bucks.”

As soon as she was reflected on PML-N’s reserved seats nominees, a barrage of backlash hit the party leadership demanding her nomination withdrawn and asserted that there were several women in the party, who had been serving it for years without any facilitation.

“We have been serving the party for years and years but why has an unknown girl been selected for a women reserved seat to become MNA,” a PML-N senior woman worker asked.

She added Maryam Ikram had no history of any social contribution or party activities but a supporter to make TikTok and YouTube videos to earn quick bucks.

A picture of her wearing PTI flag-colour dress and holding a party flag in front of burning tyres also went viral, some PML-N YouTubers acknowledged that Maryam Ikram used to sneak into the PTI camp at Zaman Park to make videos and this particular video grab was taken from her video made in October 2022. Though she usually used to make TikToks against PTI and even Imran Khan, Twitterati also shared a TikTok video wherein she had criticised PML-N chief organiser Maryam Nawaz – now chief minister Punjab.

Seeing the massive backlash, PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif directed the party leadership to remove her from the women reserved seats’ nominees list. The party immediately responded and asked the YouTuber to withdraw from her assembly membership.

The YouTuber is expected to inform the Election Commission of Pakistan regarding withdrawal of her nomination before March 19.

Sources in the PML-N say a special committee had been constituted to probe into the circumstances surrounding the nomination process to censure all those involved to ensure accountability within the party ranks. “As soon as she withdraws her nomination, the PML-N will immediately nominate an active party activist to be included in the list.

When contacted to know about her side of the story, she responded to questions on WhatsApp as: “Sorry am not available.”

Dawn also tried to reach federal and Punjab information ministers Ataullah Tarar and Azma Bukhari, respectively, to know about PML-N’s official version on the YouTuber’s inclusion and removal from the reserved seats list, but none of them responded.

It may be mentioned that Maryam Ikram had posted a couple of comments on her X handle commenting on what was happening during the past few days. In her initial tweet on her nomination, Ms Ikram had thanked PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, party deputy secretary general Attaullah Tarar and Shiza Fatima Khawaja for their support at every occasion.

Following backlash from party leaders, she tweeted that some PML-N activists had objected to the grant of an MNA seat to her and they showed their resentment on social media. “I have no objection to the party activists’ criticism but I will stay resolute in love for my party,” she added.

PML-N bigwigs to steer clear of by-polls race

In the lead-up to the upcoming by-elections in Punjab, there are no surprises on the horizon for the ruling party as its trusted hands step into the arena while the bigwigs, who lost their seats in the general elections, show little interest in running for seats vacated by senior leadership.

By-elections are scheduled to be held on twelve provincial assembly and two National Assembly seats in Punjab on April 21. These include eleven seats—nine provincial assembly and two NA seats—vacated by PML-N leaders or PML-N-backed candidates in order to retain their other seats.

In most instances, provincial assembly seats were relinquished to retain National Assembly seats with the exception of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, who retained her provincial assembly seat and relinquished her Lahore’s NA-119 seat.

The other National Assembly seat of the province—NA 132 Kasur—was relinquished by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who, in addition to this seat, also vacated his provincial assembly seats—PP-158 and PP- 164 in Lahore.

Other seats up for grabs include PP-149 Lahore (V), which was relinquished by PML-N-backed IPP President Abdul Aleem Khan; PP-147 Lahore (3) relinquished by Hamza Shehbaz; PP-139 Sheikhupura (V) vacated by Rana Tanveer Hussain; PP-32 Gujrat vacated by PML-N-backed PML-Q candidate Chaudary Salik Hussain; PP-22 Talagang vacated by Sardar Ghulam Abbas; PP-290 DG Khan relinquished by Sardar Awais Khan Leghari and and PP-54, vacated by Ahsan Iqbal.

At PP-266 Rahim Yar Khan, elections were delayed owing to the death of a candidate.

PP-93 Bhakkar (v) was vacated by PTI candidate Amir Inayat Shahani, while PP-36 Wazirabad was vacated by Muhammad Amad Chatha from PTI who instead retained his National Assembly seat NA-66.

With both governments in the Center and in Punjab standing on firm ground with a comfortable majority, the ruling party seems in no hurry to allot tickets. There are still ten more days available for allotment of party symbols and the party has ample time to announce these tickets.

According to several party leaders, including three serving ministers in Punjab, the PML-N might not have formally announced its tickets, but has already given assurances to certain aspirants.

It was revealed that Ali Pervez Malik, the son of the late PML-N leader Pervez Malik, will be contesting elections from NA-119, while Malik Rasheed, a relative of Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan, is set to contest from NA-132.

Former MPA Akhtar Hussain and Nawaz Jutt are likely to run for PP-164 Lahore and PP-158 Lahore respectively. Both of them have reportedly met with Shehbaz Sharif, according to sources.

Ticker for PP-149 Lahore, which was vacated by IPP president and Federal Minister Aleem Khan, is likely to be given to IPP leader Muhammad Shoaib Saddique.

Rana Aftab, brother of Rana Tanveer, is expected to contest from PP-139 Sheikhupura, while ticket for PP-54 Narowal, vacated by Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal, is likely to be given to his son Ahmad Iqbal.
Meanwhile, the PP-32 Gujrat, which was vacated by federal minister and PML-Q leader Salik Hussain, will now go to his cousin Musa Elahi.

PML-N bigwigs who had lost elections on February 8 showed no interest in running for the seats vacated by their party colleagues. On the other hand, those said to be in the running include a number of relatives of those who had originally won the seats.

From PP-290 DG Khan, Ali Ahmad Khan Leghari, the nephew of Sardar Awais Khan Leghari, is assured of a ticket.

Earlier there were speculations that a ticket for PP-147, a seat vacated by Hamza Shehbaz, would be given to former MPA Malik Shehbaz. However, of late there is chatter that the party is rethinking its options.

The panel of leaders said to be in the running include Malik Riaz, Chaudhary Shehbaz and even former interior Minister Rana Sanaullah.

According to sources, bigwigs of the party such as Rana Sanaullah, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Javed Latif, and Khurram Dastagir had the opportunity to contest from two NA seats but showed no interest, as they did not want to be part of this compromised government.

A source insisted that even Rana Sanaullah had originally shown no interest in contesting by-elections.
Asked why his name was being floated for a PP-147, he said he had no first-hand knowledge of this development. Another source said the reason these bigwigs want to stay away from this set-up is that they believe former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has been cornered by the establishment.

He claimed Nawaz’s brother Shehbaz Sharif was part of this conspiracy to corner the PML-N supreme leader.

UK charges Nawaz Sharif's guard for 'common assault' on woman in London

Former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Nawaz Sharif’s guard has been charged for allegedly spitting on a woman last year in the British capital.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) told The News that the close protection guard Farid Nemouchi has been charged with the alleged “common assault” on a complaint made by Panzani Cheema, a Brunei national who works in London.

Pakistani media had interviewed Nawaz Sharif a moment before the incident. Cheema had appeared from nowhere and started filming and questioning as Nemouchi was pulling out to take Nawaz home from his son Hasan Nawaz’s office.

The guard appeared at the Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday afternoon with his lawyer Moeen Khan, a criminal law expert.

He pleaded not guilty before the judge and said he will contest the charge of spitting and causing distress to Cheema who didn’t appear in the court.

The prosecutor told the judge that the spitting act had left Panzani Cheema distressed and caused her trauma. The judge told Farid that he was on bail without any conditions attached. The trial will take place at a later date in June or July.

Cheema had knocked on the window of the car on September 16 last year. Farid Nemouchi, driving Nawaz Sharif, lowered the window and said “Hi” to the woman. The woman said “Hi” to Nawaz Sharif and said, "I have heard that you are a very corrupt Pakistani politician.”

Angered by the comment, the driver allegedly spat on her face, rolled up the window, and drove away. The entire incident was caught on Panzani Cheema’s phone.

Nemouchi, Algerian by origin, is a highly trained martial arts expert who protected the PML-N supremo in London for nearly three years during the former premier’s last exile in London. He returned to Pakistan a few months ago to lead the party's election campaign.

Nemouchi’s lawyer Moeen Khan, of Moeen & Co Solicitors, said his client has decided not to plead guilty.

“We will try to prove that our client didn’t break any law. It must be kept in mind the circumstances of the incident of September 16 last year. Farid was protecting a high-profile figure at the time who had live threats to his life, reported to the Met Police. Farid Nemouchi is a professional boxer and bodyguard, one of the best in the field. He is innocent until proven guilty by the court as is the UK law."

He is right. This guy atta tarar is not worthy of being a minister.

Ex-PML-N minister berates incumbent one

Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar is a child and his statement is not worthy of a response, his fellow PML-N leader and former portfolio-less federal minister Javed Latif on Thursday said in the wake of the former’s remarks during a news conference that he did not take the allegations levelled by the latter of “voting fraud” seriously.

As two senior leaders -- former interior minister Rana Sanaullah and Latif continue to give statements that are viewed as detrimental to the PML-N’s image, the federal information minister while answering a query during the news conference said both men should forward their concerns within the party.

He added that there was a great deal of leeway within the PML-N to accommodate such criticism while advising the two leaders to speak in line with the party’s policy when in public.

When Tarar was asked again about Latif’s allegations that “voting fraud” had been carried out in the city and a mafia leader, who was also a smuggler, had spent around Rs900 million to buy seats in his constituency, the minister replied that he did not take his accusations seriously.

He also went on to refute Latif’s allegations.

When contacted by The Express Tribune, Latif said that Tarar was a child so it was better not to pay any attention to what he had said.

Sanaullah and Latif are taking positions that by and large are seen as damaging for the PML-N.
Latif has been leveling allegations of rigging, accusing the authorities of having sold seats to the highest bidder.

Sanaullah too in many of his interviews in a cryptic manner alleged that his party had not been given the mandate of a simple majority that they were promised.

Secondly, he has been very candid about the overshadowing role of the ‘powerful circles’ in the federal cabinet.

The positions taken by these two leaders are being seen skeptically by many -- as the PML-N’s escape plan.
