Is Sarfraz Ahmed a selfish player?

the way i see it.... akmal allowed srafaraz to go for century only after a deal(?) has been strucked that he(akmal) would go for winning run. before that, akmal was hitting 4s, and there was a clear indication that he didn't want to rotate the strike at all.[/QUOTE?

Why do we have to overcomplicate every thing when there are simple explanations?

This wasn't just a personal milestone for Sarfraz. Pakistan haven't had a World Cup 100 since 2007. I doubt if we had 100s in this same game by Shehzad or other Pakistanis in the game before, that Akmal would be this cautious. He probably knew too that it'd be good for the team to finally have one hundred. The game was already over. Sarfraz, to his part must have felt quite bad watching Akmal block ball after ball, and gave him strike to hit winning runs.

I think Akmal should have taken singles (there were spaces behind square leg, when he was blocking balls on the square leg) and it'd have ended much sooner. It's not like Sarfraz was blocking every thing. He was swinging his bat whenever he had the strike.

Anyway, good batting by Pakistan to reach the target comfortably. Great job by Sarfraz, Shehzad, Misbah and the little cameo by Akmal.

you misunderstood the whole post. what you wrote above, is exactly what i wrote too.

OMG. People create threads on every single observation. What a selfish observation :P

Even the studio guests mocking what happened.

Basically saying Aussies or SA would never indulge in this sort of farcial comedy.

I think sarfraz went to give umar the chance to score the winning runs because he helped him reach the century! This was well done by both if them ! Real good signs in the camp as far as positivity is concerned, and all the negative comments about the inside stories should end

I don't think Sarfraz is selfish but this whole episode leaves a bad taste in mouth. So this thread is sort of precaution to tell Sarfraz that he was wrong in how he achieve his 100 today.

What a stupid reaction to a Pakistan win.

It was great to see how pakistan chased and did it well.

There was a lot of unselfishness being seen. Akmal gave Sarfaraz the opportunity to get to 100. That was great to see. I think and believe that Sarfaraz thanked Akmal, by saying that you have the honor to score the winning runs.

The banter by the commentors was great and funny.

Lets just saviour the moment.

I dont get it. Exactly why does it leave a bad taste?

We already were cruising to victory. No NRR issue. Lots of overs left in the match. Whats the big deal here?

The focus should never have been on Sarfrazs century thats the wrong perapective. Umar was hitting boundaries with ease, should have finished the game instead of accomodating Sarfraz to get his century and make the whole thing unnecessarily embarassing. Sarfraz played sluggishly slow throughout the innings he wouldnt mind if someone came and blasted Paksitan to victory. Has it ever occured to you maybe he wasnt looking to hit a century and only looking to stay till the end?

If Sarfraz would have played some stupid shot, People would have said he dis not finish it off and If Akmal would have finished off the game by few strikes he would have been bashed for not letting Sarfraz get his Ton. We already werw through and Sarfraz did the right thing, It basically helped the confidence too.

I think he is not selfish.
He is inexperienced in dealing with such situation and does not know how to control his emotions.

He wants to get if in a hurry.

He would have been selfish if he had gotten the other batsman out, or slowed down the innings for his century while the match situation wanted him to score quick, but here he is putting his own life online.

Not selfish - just inexperienced.

As bad as it looked he earnt that right tobget his hundred. They had enough overs to play dot balls and the team and the result was not in any danger.

You have to remember this is a guy who has been sitting on the side line while the whole of Pak and tv analysts have been discussing, should he or shouldn't he play.
He just proved alot of people wrong and you could tell that by his celebration.

I only have 1 issue and that is the size of cricket box he uses, during his interview with Ramiz, Ramiz said something like "you looked exited" as the camera panned out, thankfully he was holding his mom trophy infront of his box and camera cut back to his face again :)))

Well it irritated me a tad bit because I wanted them to hurry up and win. He was thinking too much about his century which made him play really bad for some reason. Anyways perhaps he was being a bit selfish this time but he isn't a selfish player imo. The team wasn't going to be hurt in any way by his playing slow and technically the century will give a boost to the team as well. The silly thing was when sarfaraz blocked to let akmal hit the winning runs. I suppose that was his way of saying thank you though haha.

Unfair to call him selfish, he was clearly nervous and took his time. There was no scoreboard/run rate pressure, so it's a non-issue.

People are p.issed because Sarfraz was playing selfishly but he has been playing sluggishly throughout the whole innings. If Umar was hitting the boundaries at ease he should have finished the game and not look to adjust his game according to Sarfraz's century. Either try to take singles or finish the game off. End of story.

He did the right thing by letting Sarfaraz get to his century. Nothing was lost by taking an extra three overs to get to the target.

Hit 4s and 6s -> Get out for 30s or 40s -> He is careless and a mindless slogger drop him (Maqsood, Umar)

Plays around an 80ish strike rate -> Gets a 100 -> He is selfish and needs to be dropped

So who will be left in the team?

Regardless of whether he is selfish, did any of his supporters actually watch him bat? After reaching 30 he looked like an absolute tailender! I think that that should be more of a concern than his selfishness.

And yes it is highly unprofessional for a team, especially one with a reputation of match-fixing, to be indulging in the sort of nonsense we saw at the end. For me, it took everything away from the ultimate victory.

The game was over already. NRR didn't matter, Pak didn't need much and had plenty of overs left. It was right for him to try to get to his 100 and any team would have probably done so. Also the fact that it was his maiden ODI hundred and that too, the first hundred for a Pakistani since the 2007 WC.

Joke of a thread.

oh yeah, the great Aussies would never indulge in this sort of comedy, like Umar playing 21 dots

They'd rather have Ponting play 25 dots, which included a maiden, only to ensure Micheal clarke get to his century.

:facepalm::facepalm::facepalm:

Level of intellect apart was never too high on this forum but the lack of general knowledge these days is frustrating :danish

Give sarfaraz a break please. The guy performed in two back to back matches and yet people are calling him selfish. The funny thing is same fans would have called him selfish too if he had thrown his wicket after getting his 50.

He is an opener. What kind of opener runs out of time to make a century in a chase of 238? It is not as if he was batting with Brendan McCullum or anything. He was given every opportunity to score his hundred and I would have applauded Umar Akmal had he bashed a couple of sixes to end the game quickly.

And don't forget his part in the run out of Harris Sohail.

Yeah, this thread tells me why this was the first 100 Pak scored in this world cup. A batsmen needs to be hungry for his own runs just like a bowler needs to be hungry for wickets. Kohli, amla etc have these hunger for runs. And milestones help them crystalize the targets in their mind

The guy is human, first two matches he plays and he scores a 49 and 100 when his coach and the Akram thinks he is not good enough to open in Aussie pitches. He runs himself out on 49 against SAF and then runs out Haris against IRL. He want to make sure he makes this count. If anything he proved he is not Akmal or Had he played stupid shots and got out Maqsood to play a rash shot and get out. If he did I am sure what all the fans would have said he cannot get a 100 or 50. Not to mention Waqar apparently had told them to get a century and getting out in the 90s would have been even more embarrassing. So simple the whole situation got the better of him, I think he will learn from this as he is shown he is capable of in the last 2 years.

This thread reminds me of Umer Sharif Famous joke!

A woman sitting with her friends in her house. She is mother of 6 children and were saying "Sacha pyaar nahi milla"

I wish we had few other selfish players like him in the team so that we can score consistently.

We had enough time to win the game. Why not let somebody celebrate a personal milestone!

Well well 12(32) and the knock against Aus exposed this selfish player like he is. Either he is mediocre or selfish. Nothing else explains his performances like that.
