All the time I see Indians hype up about Surya this Surya that. Sky is gonna do this.

3 matches against us, and he has done nothing.

Indians tell us how he is the true no.1, not Babar or Rizwan, we are yet to see Surya to do anything against us.

he was declared no.1 based on few matches. So before calling others stupid, better to look at the history first.

he has failed against pakistan all 3 times.

He has been hyped up on the basis of few games with bad bowling, while Rizwan has been bashed even though he is consisstent
 
SKY is the best t20 batsman in the world today, I think that's been obvious for months now.
The way he started off today was better than anyone from either team. Unlucky to get that ripper right at his neck

Babar also failed against India. Does that mean we just forget all his wonderful performances in other matches and call him overhyped ?
 
He is 32 years old... theres a reason he came into the team so late. He really isnt that good. Another Dhawan imo. Will have purple patch here or there but is no world beater...
 
To be fair to him he won't have batted against this type of bowling and on these kind of surfaces very often.

Different kettle of fish when batting on 50 or 60m boundaries on flat decks.
 
I'm pretty sure the detractors will see what he can do later this WC. He looked on form from ball one today.

true, but than to claim he is the best, he is no1 withouth facing quality bowling is ridiculous. he has been overhyped by indian fans and pundits

He's a poor man's ABD. India already has a cheap man's ABD in Rahul. Both will occasionally dazzle. Both will fail if there is seriously good bowling. However Yadav is more consistent than Rahul. He will get you those above par scores in friendly conditions. That's enough for India as T20Is are typically played in friendly conditions.

All three in that top 3 ranking thrive when conditions suit them. Today conditions didn't and all three were horribly exposed
 
SKY atleast played some shots. Sure he will click. If you are going to judge a batsman based on his performance against one team then not many will be good. His role is to stay positive and play. He could have easily tuk tuked and pocketed a 50. He didn't do there. He tried to bring some energy into the innings. Fell away.

It’s his first tour in Australia. Having said that he did look much more in command and played with authority than a lot of other big name players in this game :)

Dare I say he brought some momentum to the innings which was not going anywhere even if he made 10-15 runs.

No way. Tuktuking on his way to 50 would have been precious today. See Pandya's innings. Yadav can hit boundaries on bad balls in 6 different ways. He's not capable of playing match winning innings or even stick around on these pitches.
 
Surya has performed against England, Australia, South Africa, West Indies etc. If you think Surya is overrated, be happy in passing this judgement. Neither Surya nor Indian fans care about your opinion.

Rizwan and Babar Azam too failed. so by your fishbowl logic, they too should be overrated.

Most overrated ever you ask? There's a player who bats 2 positions higher than Surya, we still don't know when will he ever score in a big game.
 
Very selfless player, with a high risk game. Refreshing change when you see our stat padders.

Sure he has failed against Pakistan but we have got to see what he has done against the field, not just one nation. We need more batsmen with such mindset if we want to win ICC titles.
 
You need one player like that who has the guts to play this high risk cricket.It will not come off everytime but when it comes, it will not go the way the innings of Babar, Rizwan or Shan goes, that is in losing cause due to slow and coward batting. There is no place for that in T20s.
 
I have the exact feeling for Babar. He has been around for years but in the only matches I watch(Ind vs Pak) he is as good as tailender both in the terms of his scores as well as how he bats. He must have feasted a lot on zimbabwe to get his average up.

Didn't he score a 50 against Australia in practice game? He can stick around. HE tried to ramp a ball that was too close. Failed. Big deal. Lot of top stars failed today. He came in at after a collapse and took on the bowling.
 
We are totally fine with SKY. He effortlessly smashed a 150 kph ball down the ground then pulled a 147 kph ball infront of square.
 
Dangerous player. This thread will be bumped every time he smashes a good score.

If he has failed against Pakistan doesn’t mean there are no other teams in the World. Besides Haris had to get his A game out to get him out today, he looked very comfortable.
 
That ball from Rauf was too good. It came in and climed on him. I don't think that shot was not on.

Pundits and indian fans have gone on to say he will be the highest scorer of the tournament, and thats a very big claim, considering high scorers are always the openers in t20.

Im still waiting to see whats soo great about him that he is i guess second in rankings just in few games

The match in which he scored his 100, India lost it and mark wood didnt play. Score runs against West Indies who are minnows
 
Love Surya! Easilyyy my favourite white ball batter right now. Looks to manufacture a boundary off every single ball, hence the strike rate in 170s. An opposite of statpadders if there ever was one! Today too looked scarily good against high pace. Ofcourse he will fail against high quality bowlers sometimes, as great balls (like the one today) are difficult to hit to boundaries
 
And Surya is absolutely important for us. Correct me if i am wrong but he's the youngest of 30+ player, which our team practically consists of. We don't like Rishabh Pant as he's under 30.

SKY & KL Rahul are like Babar & Rizwan. Terrific players in favorable conditions but struggles when the pressure is on

He'd walk into Pakistan's team.

He's also a much better batsman than Ifti.
 
He is a stellar batsman. Only a matter of time before he tears Pakistani bowling apart.
 
SKY and Haris Rauf, two players who just oozed talent in this match despite not having much to show for it as numbers. Very excited to follow both in next few matches.

If you want a bottler, don't look beyond Babar Azam. He has failed continuously in matches vs India. The only time he scored was when the target was a low 151 run and pitch got easier to bat later on with dew coming in. He also had support from Rizwan.

In contrast, Surya has mostly come to bat when his team is 2 down cheaply at 20 odd and then it is always a challenge to score with that high risk game. Give him a 151 total and allow him to open, he will finish the game faster than your Babar -Rizwan did. :inti
 
Sky might be a bottler against Pak but he is way better than any of our T20i batsmen.
 
What is next. Bangladesh opening a thread "Sehwag is the most over-rated batsman" because he only averages 35 against them in Tests

I was told that this is the guy who is the true no.1. Yet, against quality bowling he fails.

Or does it take him 5 matches to perform against a quality side?

If Suriya is true no.1 and the hype around him is all true, its his 4th game agaisnt and he failed. Highest score of 18 till now agaisnt Pakistan.

Reminds me of Varun Chakravarthy. Everyone, even Aamir kept saying that watch out for Chakravarthy, he is gonna do this or that.

Hasn't been able to come back to the Indian team after that event

thats because Indian pundits and fans are claiming him to be the highest scorer of the world t20. Ever since he has made his debut, we hear how SKY will do this or how SKY will do that.

Indian pundits have even claim that he will be the highest scorer in this tournament. Meaning that a 2 down batsmen is gonna score more than butler, finch, rizwan etc.

So this is overhype, that a person who doesnt open can become the highest scorer.

A number four can't be an highest scorer, is that mandatory? Are you sure that butler, rizwan etc. will score more than him because they open. They are just predicting sky to be highest scorer, whats wrong in that.

1 50 in 9 games vs India for Babar and that 50 was not the one where he scored like when team was 2-3 down cheaply or chasing a big total.

SKY has mostly come when we are two-three down cheaply.
 
Admittedly I’ve only seen him in the Pakistan matches he’s played and he looks decidedly average.

seems india need to keep looking

If you don't play batsmen like Surya in t20s ,who would you play then?Not everyone is Kohli who even in his twilight years can soak pressure and explode later to win his side game

No I didn’t see it, don’t really follow Indian cricket - I’ve only seen him against Pakistan and he looks terrible.
