What's new

Is SuryaKumar Yadav the most overrated/overhyped player ever?

Afghanistan has one of the best spin attacks and quality pace in the world, Rashid khan was tearing everyone apart. Farooqi has the most wickets of the tournament.

Just because their name is Afghanistan doesn't mean squat when based of last WC and how Afghanistan is currently playing they'd wash Pakistan black and blue.

It doesn't matter if you think sky is overrated or not. He's still superior to Pakistan's entire t20 line up.

Also don't act like it's a 50 in the same vein as how rizwam scores a 50. His 50 at a near 200SR is what made the difference today, Otherwise India was heading for a 130 score. Him and Bumrah were the MVP's today.
Suryakumar against Rashid today: 16 runs off 6 balls

Rashid against other batters: 3-0-10-3

Thread is about Sky, not Babar.

Move on or come back after Sky mesmerisies his fan base with another minnow spectacle.

😎

Lol this is what happens @Technics 1210 . Its called digging ur own grave.

We can pan his T20i stats vs Australia, all at home to start with.

And when SKY plays 50 ODI matches, we can then dissect his ODI stats too. Until now his 3 b2b golden ducks vs. Australia are his only memorable ODI achievements.

SKY is a 360 degree player and also plays great raning when Indian team in trouble… we have seen this in 2 consecutive matches against USA and Afghanistan…… if u remember in last WC, Perth pitch was very difficult for Indian batters, but SKY scored 70 odd runs on that pitch

He is a good player and the perfect example of a modern-day batter.

Yet to fire against Pakistan but yeah, he has smashed other team for good.

He is not a ODI batsman. That was a mistake. He failed as List A batsman even in domestic. So no surprise him failing in internationals.

He is an X factor player. Most X factor players are not going to be consistent. WHen they come off they can be devastating. His Trent Bridge innings is an example. India was dead buried with 4 down for 30 runs chasing 200. He made 117 in 52 balls. Out of nowhere India almost pulled off the chase. One of the best 360 hitting i have ever seen since ABDV' pyrotechniques in ODIs. Even ABDV has not done that consistently in T20.

One of the best t20 batman India has produced. He is aging and it will be hard for him to replicate his performances next WC.

One of the best T20 batsman in history

Opposition team Australia remove Australia from query or England remove England from query or India remove India from query or New Zealand remove New Zealand from query or Pakistan remove Pakistan from query or South Africa remove South Africa from query or Sri Lanka remove Sri Lanka from query or West Indies

100 six club against the above oppositions. Look at the innings he took to hit this many sixes.

Rohit 116 innings 145 sixes
Guptill 99 innings 136 sixes
Buttler 100 innings 123 sixes
Gayle 69 innings 122 sixes
Morgan 102 innings 119 sixes
Maxwell 91 innings 118 sixes
Warner 97 innings 112 sixes
Surya 49 innings 109 sixes
Finch 97 innings 104 sixes
Pooran 71 innings 101 sixes
Kohli 94 innings 100 sixes

Hope it stays that way in the future too. Because of all their batters, he is the most dangerous.

I thought SKY played a brilliant innings under pressure against a top-quality bowling attack on a tricky surface. His numbers were already Brandmanesque for this format but he is really starting to come into his own as a batter India can bank on in this tournament.

Thanks to Suryakumar’s 53 runs off 28 balls, India won the match by 47 runs against Afghanistan in the Super 8 game. He was named the Player of the Match, marking his 15th time receiving this honor in T20 international cricket, which matches the all-time record held by Kohli. Notably, Suryakumar achieved this in nearly half the innings that Kohli did.

In terms of the most Player of the Match awards in T20Is:
  • Suryakumar Yadav has 15 awards in 61 innings
  • Virat Kohli also has 15 awards, but in 113 innings

Wow 1 Player of the Match out of 4 matches he has played. Nobody can beat this with samples of 50+ Matches

Yeah, impactful player SKY is.

Astonishing stats if you think about it.

POTM every 4th game. NICE

Minnow Basher.
All the time I see Indians hype up about Surya this Surya that. Sky is gonna do this.

3 matches against us, and he has done nothing.

Indians tell us how he is the true no.1, not Babar or Rizwan, we are yet to see Surya to do anything against us.

And how many times did he do it against the big teams??

Anil Kumble while speaking to a sports media outlet:

"It gives India the kind of power and stroke play you need from someone batting at number four. It certainly puts pressure on the opposition bowlers, as it's not easy to control a batsman like Surya in this kind of form. You don't know where to bowl, as wherever you bowl, the field is set in a way that makes it hard to stop him from scoring boundaries. So, yeah, it certainly bodes well. In the first game of the Super 8s, you have Surya coming back into this kind of form."

And how many times did he do it against the big teams??
I have highlighted SKY and T20 Bradman filtering the opposition for man of the match awards

In T20s, SKY failing in 4 innings with single digits and producing a knock like yesterday in his 5th is perfectly acceptable.

Consistency is not only overrated, it's harmful to your team in T20s. Kohli, Babar, Rizwan...there's a long list of example here.

The reason is simple. Consistency can only come at the expense of all important Strike Rate.

Currently, SKY (and Pant) is hampered and his inconsistency gets highlighted because Rohit and Kohli are playing a SELFISH game.

He has been taken into the team as a match winner. Match winners should not be consistent necessarily

Blates.

SKY turns minnow bashing into art form.
When teams lose to Afghanistan in 50 overs and stumble against Zimbabwe and Ireland, it automatically states the importance of a bonafide Minnow basher in the side.

Absolutely fine with SKY and is a must in the T20 side.

I wonder why the usual suspects forgot to bump up the thread today?

May be because everyone is busy in celebrating Indias win rather than caring about individual achievements or stat paddings.
Also if he does score then you will say he scored against BD only , if he fails you will say he failed against BD also.
So not worth it....lol

On average it should have been one pOM in 22 innings ..It shows his domination in the format..He needs to play one such innings in sf or final..

See we mock their player. But king babar…would take 10-12 balls to get to six runs and then get out. That’s me giving babar a leeway by subtracting 3-4 balls extra he kills.

He's not been as successful in ODIs. So there his critics and skeptics have an argument.

But in T20s, he's really settled into this team. He's the perfect T20 batsman. Comes out attacking ball one. None of this anchoring nonsense. And on his day, he can hit them just about anywhere in the stands.

All the trolls have been answered, all the shouts have been silenced.

Surya has truly rocked the T20 WC 2024. A match winning knock on a tricky surface vs USA. 53 off just 28 vs Afg on a pitch where everyone else struggled to get going. 31 off just 16 vs Aus and extremely important 47 today in the SF. And the top notch fielding is cherry on top. Acrobatic catches and lightning run out as well. Gave everything he could.

Playing the format like it really should. A T20 Great.

Fearless knock today and played the best among all the batters today. That six over fine leg was just outrageous

He is so overrated/overhyped

How is he scoring crucial runs in a big semi final like this?
Imo I still think SKY is overrated in that he's not THE BEST T20 PLAYER IN THE WORLD, but he is defo the best no 4 in t20 that's for sure.

I can't think of a better no 4 then him that is consistently better again key word CONSISTENTLY

IMHO He is overrated but has done well this tournament.

And considering majority Pak posters have been blabbering about KO performances.. they should SKY is the best now as per them

I say very good knock not because he made runs. These pitches are the least suitable for SKY type of players. He loves true pitches. Not tacky, low bounce pitches. His innovations work on faster pitches better. Thankfully he has adapted well.

iftikhar wants to be a International player he better take classes from sky

Good inning by SKY under pressure. Still not the best innings of his career but this inning proved vital for his team's success and that's the most important thing. Sky's inning benefited India so I think he is saving his best one for the big match FINAL AGAINST SOUTH AFRICA.

Bro Klaasen is in form. The guy has been extremely watchful for his side knowing their choking tendency. If Klaasen gets a free licence, he will display his supreme ability
We'll see in the final, I'm hoping he comes good and shows those fireworks

People hates SKY because he is unusual player, a real 360 degree player… In yesterday’s match against england, SKY played shot against Jordan over the head and one off flick off Sam Curran went to six. These are incredible shots only SKY can play

God gifted wrists.

Sky was extremely sensible in yesterday's match.Rashid was bowling loopy slow deliveries outside the offstump to get sky just like Adelaide dismissal.sky was having none of it and he was quite sensible with his shot selection and manipulating the field. learning from mistakes is always a quality of good or great batsmen. At the end rashid seems to have no other plan b.

His greatest asset is his ability to find gaps. He's freakishly good at finding gaps between fielders and lofting shots to areas where the fielders aren't present
