Is the Indian team getting an unfair advantage in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 by playing all its matches in Dubai?

India is set to play all its group-stage matches at the Dubai Cricket Stadium during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, a venue known for its relatively neutral, but challenging, low and slow surfaces. In contrast, other teams will need to navigate the diverse conditions between Pakistan's batting-friendly pitches, which tend to favor high-scoring games with more pace and bounce, and Dubai's slower wickets that often make it harder to accelerate the game in the later overs.

From a tactical standpoint, this presents a potential advantage for India, as they will become increasingly accustomed to the slower, more spin-friendly conditions of Dubai, potentially giving them an edge in terms of strategy and preparation. In contrast, teams playing in both Pakistan and Dubai will have to adjust quickly between different playing styles and conditions, which could impact their performance consistency.

Does this geographical and surface-based disparity give India an unfair advantage in the tournament?

Let’s discuss

Think if PCB is smart, they should emulate the pitches of Pakistan similar to Dubai to remove this disparity. But then we all know, PCB isn't smart, so it is what it is.

India also has unfair advantage in the test championship cycle. They dont deserve to be in the race for final without beating Pakistan.

I didn't expect esteemed posters like @Bhaag Viru Bhaag and @Devadwal to just laugh at the OP. Pls give your input guys, one way or other.
Pakistan played most of cricket in UEA from last 15 year's.

Every team has played enough cricket there even more than india .

I don't think Indian team will gets much advantage just because we are playing all three league games there.

England team player's are already practicing in the UAE .

South Africa , Pakistan and NZ will Play a tri series on the same Pakistan ground just before the champions trophy.

:kp

Nah...honestly India dnt have any advantage in WTC. If anything Pak got an easy route in last 2 WTC cycles but no one can help if they lose all matches. This one for CT 2025 merits a discussion.

🤣🤣.

No not at all. Rigging draws, predetermining where they will play, and pitch tampering that India regularly does provides no advantage.

Esteemed 🤣🤣🤣. Their basically more cringy and evil versions of you lol.

Hello Mr. Saigol, do you disagree with the OP? UAE produces low and slow surfaces where batting can get tough and timing becomes key. In Pakistan on the other hand, one can play along the line trusting the bounce on those truer surfaces. Don't you think teams, especially teams like Aus, Eng and NZ will struggle to adapt.

Rajdeep.

They will but India will be the first to struggle lol.

India will struggle because our batsmen don’t like sluggish pitches like Dubai etc where pitches are slow and sluggish. Indian batsmen need true pace and bounce.

I think Virat Kohli and dare I say this Rizwan are the only 2 guys who have a method to make runs here.

Well without speaking on behalf of anyone else me personally I can't abandon my support of Pakistan. Even if we lose every match I will give them my support and can't change my team.
Absolutely. Supporting the own country team is a pride.

Looking at the jhagra so far, I cant wait for Champions trophy to start. It will be epic few weeks. More than action on the field, I am looking forward to the cat fights here. Netflix may remove WWE from their program and show the war between posters here which is more interesting

Whatever will be the result I'm always rooting for team india and doesn't depend on others team's to prove a point.

Can't wait for 20 Feb When we Will smashed Bangladesh then end the Pakistani fan's dream of winning the champion trophy on 23 Feb at the Dubai . Pakistan fan's will be like - ye tournaments to start hote hi end ho gya apna

I don't think India have much of an advantage. For one thing, India's ability to play spin has heavily declined in recent times. Also, in ICC tournaments the concept of "home advantage" is overrated. India had every advantage imaginable in the last World Cup. They even had the advantage of tampering pitches, which other home teams aren't accorded in ICC tournaments, and we all know how that turned out.

Potentially a disadvantage. Dubai heavily tilts towards the team batting 2nd with the heavy dew causing the low slow surface to become a batting paradise in the last 25 overs of the game.

Pretty much will be a toss lottery in all games.

Dew will play Very important role both in pakistan and Dubai.

So yes toss will become very important factor.

India tends to perform better on belters and roads as compared to sluggish pitches. If anything i think it ll be disadvantage for them.

The difference is that in Pakistan, the pitches are not slow so the team batting first can at least have scoreboard pressure of let's say, 350 runs. Good luck trying to score even 300 batting first in Dubai.

Did the ICC or Pakistan force the BCCI to play in the UAE? :misbah :inti

You heard me right. I think thiese conditions might suit Bangladesh batsmen though . I think Ind vs Pak will be a boring one sided match either ways because of the pitch with both set of batsmen either getting impatient or too tuk tuk except Kohli and Rizwan. This pitch isn’t suitable for players like Rahul, Rohit, Babar, Gill etc. Shreyas Iyer might be a wild card here though.

To be honest Pakistan odi white ball pitches are 400+ type pitches from what I have seen. Even more patta and small grounds than IPL games. So don’t think any Indian batsmen would have an issue playing here from a career stand point.

As far as BCCI changing venue to Dubai I am sure players batting stats and flat pitches was not the consideration in that decision. What’s your question again?

Fair enough, that's your opinion and I respect it.

You don't get ground advantage in LOIs. Only toss advantage. Playing on the same used track won't make us better and better. It might make Indian batting worse and worse

Dew only becomes important if you have already adapted to the slowness of the pitch. I.e ball will not grip or spin.

Otherwise mindless slogging - dew or no dew will not work

India’s “home advantage” during the Champions Trophy has been criticised by former England captains Nasser Hussain and Mike Atherton.

Pakistan are hosts of the ongoing tournament, yet had to travel to Dubai to face India on Sunday. India have refused to visit Pakistan during the tournament, and are guaranteed to play all their matches – including the final, should they qualify – in Dubai. Every other side in the competition must go to Dubai to face India should they play against them, leaving India as the sole nation that are guaranteed to play all of their games in the same venue.

While other countries had to consider the possibility of playing in United Arab Emirates as well as Pakistan, India picked their squad knowing that they would play on the same pitch in Dubai. India picked five spinners in their squad, in anticipation of turning wickets in Dubai. After two comprehensive wins, over Bangladesh and Pakistan, India have already qualified for the semi-finals.

“It is an advantage. For the best team in the tournament to have that advantage...”, said Hussain, England’s captain from 1999-2003. “I saw a tweet the other day: Pakistan – host nation, India – home advantage. That sort of sums it up, really.”

As well as familiarity with the conditions, India also do not need to travel between different venues during the competition, staying in the same hotel throughout.

“All the other sides have to pick for different conditions – Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Dubai, and then they have to travel and adjust to those conditions,” Hussain said.

“It is an advantage, but what else could happen? ICC, once India refused to come here to Pakistan, what else could happen? You can’t have a tournament like this without India-Pakistan, that’s not going to happen. It had to be in Dubai. They [India] sit happily and comfortably there, knowing that they will probably play six games there, and if they win all those they will win another global tournament.”

Mike Atherton, England’s Test captain from 1993-98, also believes that India enjoy a major advantage in the tournament.

“About the advantage India have in playing in Dubai, only in Dubai, which seems to me to be a hard-to-quantify advantage but an undeniable advantage,” Atherton said.

“They’re playing at just one venue. They don’t have to travel between venues or, you know, between countries as a lot of other teams have to do. Therefore, the selection can focus on Dubai, you know, can focus in on the conditions in Dubai, where they are playing their semi-final as and when they get through to that. That seems to me an undeniable advantage.”

In the World Cup India had to play in 9 different locations in different conditions. In India conditions etc change every 100 KM’s.

For CT, you have barely 4 grounds if you include Dubai- Lahore,Karachi, Islamabad.

Traveling from Mumbai to Delhi takes the same time as Dubai to Karachi.

We will see a lot of such complaining till India gets knocked out. I am ready for it. If we win we will see it for a couple of months.

Now England is brink of elimination so Wait for some More article like this

Cry babies

Tbh, India has more of advantage than any team, all games at one venue including the sf & final, never happened in any world tournament.

A complete joke it is infact this kind of advantage didn't enjoyed in 2023 and 2011 WC. Even slutts and vhores have more respect than ICC

If India had gone to Pakistan to play the champion trophy then they would have played all the matches at the Lahore .

:kp

It saddens me to know that true cricket fans might never acknowledge if we win this tournament somehow because of all the rigging done by BCCI which is unfair, inhumane and against the spirit of the game.

Pak team locations in WC 2023- Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata

Indian team locations in wc 2023- Chennai, 2nd game in Delhi- check the distance from
Chennai to Delhi, 3rd game in Ahmedabad, 4th-Pune; 5th- Dharamshala, 6th- Lucknow, 7th-Mumbai, 8th- Kolkata, 9th- Bangalore, 10th- Mumbai, 11th- Ahmedabad.

I demand investigation why Pak was given Unfair Advantage in WC in India

Dear India in CT are playing all games at single venue.

Cricket WC , Fifa WC, Euros, Copa America where did this happened before

Bro, it was due to circumstances. Pakistan will get the same deal next time. That will be in worldcups more important than 3rd rate champions trophy. I promise I won’t complain. There is a women’s World Cup, WT20 both more prestigious than CT.

No trolling or anything the simple answer is Yes, if any team gets to play all there games at a single venue, than it is a big advantage.

This will never happen just wait and see

Obviously it is an advantage, but PCB did not have to accept this arrangement. India can suggest anything, but PCB could have put its foot down. Once you accept it, no point grumbling about it.

Only people who are grumbling are English + Cummins who isn't even present to play this tournament.

Did these guys ever say that Kiwis had unfair advantage of playing 1st WTC final in England after playing a 3-tests series in England for nearly a month?

That was fair to India? English will never mend their ways, will always be crybabies, no matter what!

The no of matches played by Pakistan in Dubai is much more than the no of matches played/to be played by India in this pitch..Pak were playing in Dubai as home ground for more than 10 years and should have known nooks and corners of the pitch and how it will behave..still Pak cannot win India despite winning the toss..unless you have been playing for years continuously in any pitch there is no any such home advantage..the pitches doesnt behave same every time and it can either improve or deteriorate..As a batting dominant team India won't like the slow pitch and are not yet tested by a good bowling team..Probably nz match will show them their place..only advantage India have is lack of travel..but that can lead to complacency and in turn become disadvantage..and I don't think any good players/team will think about it and will focus on winning the match..only team/players with loser mentality will whine about it

Pakistan was the least travelling team in the 2023 World Cup group stage by a country mile and still ended up humiliating themselves.

In the 2024 T20 WC , India was made to play all their first round games on those pathetic New York surfaces while all other teams had already acclimatised to pitches in the Carribbean.. still not one of us complained and we went on to win the tournament undefeated.

Something to learn for the petulant crybabies who are always to quick to suck on the excuses lollypop instead of accepting they're garbage.

Agree to an arrangement and then cry about it. Lol

Exactly.

These lot were celebrating like no tomorrow as if they have won a World war when this hybrid model was announced for future tournaments but now that they got their behinds handed to them on a plate by Indians on a neutral venue, they're crying nonstop.

Reels of Weak mentality. :inti

India is literally getting pampered by ICC. Daddy's little princess.

During this CT:

- India have all games in Dubai. They don't have to move.
- Final group stage game is India's game so that they know what to do in case NRR is a factor.
- India have sufficient gaps between their games. So, they are rested well.
- Their semi-final venue is already fixed.

After all these pamperings, if India can't win CT, that would be funny. :yk

Simply insane. I don't know how NZ agreed to this. Complete farce. :inti

I actually think Lahore would have suited India more. India play ODIs on some very similar pitches at home.

Yes , Lahore pitch is perfect for indian stroke players but again people would have cry about same advantages.

Actually Dubai is not suitable for us as we have problem facing against quality spinner. Gone are day when Indian players played spinners very well.

Santner will expose our batting on 2nd March.

Jos Buttler at the pre-match press conference ahead of the Group B match against Afghanistan

Reporter: There's been some talk with India knowing that all their games will be in Dubai, that gives them a big advantage. Is that something you've got a view on?

Jos Buttler: Not really. I think it's a unique tournament already, isn't it, with being hosted here with one team playing in a different place but that's not something I'm sort of worried too much about at the moment. I've got all my focus on preparing well tonight and our game tomorrow."

Last t20 World Cup ind knew they will be in Guyana hence selected spinners for those tired wickets. Ind playing in favourable conditions whilst other teams travel to them.

Brilliant response by Butler. You can clearly see the difference between men and crybabies who are good for nothing but wailing on online forums while their mediocre teams get decimated on the field.

Cricket as a sport needs more such men rather than impotent, small dog complex ridden mediocrities.

In this case though, India does have a clear advantage with zero travel involved and familiar pitch conditions throughout the tournament.

Pampered by ICC? This is what PCB agreed to because they want our money, else BCCI was happy to withdraw. You want our money but are now crying hoarse about it?

Lol, you guys complain about wtc 24/7. Literally made comments on why wtc final should be held in India 🤣.

You are taking as if Dubai is very far away from Pakistan. Heck, it’s probably comparable & might be even lesser than Mumbai & Delhi. Also, Dubai was practically the home for Pakistan for 10 years and still they lost?

Yeah it should be "Useless incompetent broke kids trying to make daddy happy so that they can leech off his money".

Some low IQ individuals fail to realise that ICC is just a round table of all the individual boards.

Lol, you guys complain about wtc 24/7. Literally made comments on why wtc final should be held in India 🤣.

So you think it's unfair on India to have the WTC in England everytime? Yes or no. Don't expect to have the cake and eat it too.

In this case though, India does have a clear advantage with zero travel involved and familiar pitch conditions throughout the tournament.

Yes in the same vein ..India travelled the most in 2023 WC and had unfamiliar pitch conditions for the latter part of the 2024 T20 WC. Let's not even discuss the WTC here.

Every tournament, some team will have a favourable schedule and some teams won't. Good teams and their fans ignore such things and concentrate on the cricket played while the mediocrities moan and screech endlessly. It is what it is .

Don't try to change the subject. Red flag to answer a question with a biased question.

I'm just exposing the whole But but but we don't complain nonsense

You guys complained about wtc venues and the format itself. Before you guys threw a hissyfit in BGT as well.

Indians are the biggest cry baby nation on the planet. So is Pakistan but India is a bigger cry baby via population size, money and power abuse.

You guys don't have western calmness so please stop pretending to be them.

Honestly if you take this advantage away, there is a chance we might not have qualified for the semi finals. One of the reasons why i am not celebrating qualifying for semi finals because deep down I know we did not earn it. It was gifted to us by sponsors and BCCI.

There were only two options. 1) India not playing the CT 2) India playing outside pakistan. It is financially not viable to force India to play one match in Srilanka, one match Bangladesh. It is not a full fledged world cup. Maximum of 3 matches in group stage. We knew this fact moment they agreed for hybrid schedule. So talking about it now makes no sense.

It’s not the fault time of our cricket team and i hope Pakistani fans take that into account. We know you have the upper hand in this argument Pakistani fans but you must be fair in this regard. Aim your guns at BCCI and sponsors, not at our team.

Nobody talked about that at that time. At that time everyone was chest thumping "Look we have made BCCI kneel infront of us".

That’s all politics bro.

My point is that in all of this cricket lost and as a fan of the game i cannot support this.

I am a patriot and sure as hell i support my country and its brave political stances in national interest.

But as a genuine cricket fan, i cannot defend what’s obviously wrong.

Look at all the mystery in this forum. All these fans who looked forward to a great tournament which they got to host after decades. So many hearts we broke.

There is nothing wrong or right when there is no other option. Nobody can be blamed if Indian government has a policy of not sending their players to Pakistan. Pakistan fans were happy with this arrangement too at that time. I was probably the only one who talked about teams travelling back and forth. Most of the talk was about which board came out as winner. Infact there was a thread on that too.

It's obvious India have an unfair advantage. Only other option was to move the entire tournament away from Pakistan or India not participating.

This happened to be the most acceptable solution on all sides.

There are two solutions to the problem -

1) Stop over broadcaster revenue and keep India out.
2) No more tournaments to be hosted in Pakistan.

If people are not happy with either solution, then just cry in the corner and accept life. :sree
