One Day International/T20 Ranking is over hyped and carries little importance in Limited Overs International. Here are few examples of the past.

West Indies won T20 World Cup----2012/2016
Sri Lanka won T20 World Cup-------2014
Pakistan won ICC Champions Trophy----2017

So past 4 out of 6 ICC Events have been won by lower ranked teams

Zimbabwe recently defeated Sri lanka chasing 300+ (no team ever chased down 300 + in Sri lanka to win the match). Zimbabwe has been comprehensively beaten by Afghanistan on numerous occasions, West indies defeated India last night comfortably and Afghanistan drew one day series with West Indies recently.

Pakistan and Sri lanka defeated India recently. In case of Pakistan it also defeated high ranked England and South Africa. Low ranked Bangladesh defeated New zealand.

Instead of this meaningless One Day Ranking, why not ICC Introduce ICC Tournament rankings (they can create the ranking system based on past 4 ICC Tournaments). Instead of having separate rankings of T20's and ODI's, it is better to merge the ranking system of both genres of cricket. After all it is limited overs international.

Ranking in One Dayers and T20's are creating false sense of superiority in few teams, Newspaper articles or blogs often belittle the winning opposition, for example last night West Indies defeated India in One sided match (if Roston Chase would not have have gone for 16 runs in that fatal over, margin of win was meant to be higher). However certain articles in newspaper started "Bottom Ranked West Indies upset India". Another example was "India has recently lost to Rank 7,8,9 teams over the past 3 weeks".

South Africa failed to pass the group stage of 2012/2016 T20 World Cups, 2017 ICC Champions Trophy. They have never played in Final of icc event since 1998. So for them to be ranked higher purely on meaningless bilateral series does not make any sense at all.

Pakistan does not deserve to be ranked number one because of winning the Champions Trophy.
