I am reading similar comments today, for example Roger Boyes has written about it in his commentary section in the Times. I don't know why indian posters feel so invested in backing israel's supposed military might, what has it got to do with them? By all means support them if you identify with their cause, but do they identify with yours? For them it is a regional issue, clearly not for our indian posters.
What has Pakistanis got to do with shedding tears for Palentine? Does it have anything to do with them? Palestine has never supported Pakistan on their Kashmir cause.

Don't you have anything else apart from being obsessed with Pakistan?
Former PM of yours obsessed with India did 24/7 on X about how the BJP is fascist, Modi dictator, etc. And now he is enjoying his time in jail.

Iran did nothing

If you remember in 1991 iraq launched scuds which actually hit israel .

Iran is hand in glove with israel and usa . Warnings were already issued beforehand and there was an understanding their dud fireworks and flying lawnmowers and washing machines won't destroy or kill anything.
It seems a weird way to be Hand in glove.

Bear decades of sanctions, get your key generals taken out, international pariah, the rest of the region allied against you.

What does Iran get from this hand in glove arrangement?

The dude relishes the result of a war that happened in 1967 lmao.

I've seen some weird takes on the Internet but that one took the biscuit.

LMAO, that's coming from people who relishes the accomplishments of destroying religious places, converting people by sword, slaughtering people, committing all sorts of atrocities, and the 3 battles of Panipat by Muslim invaders hundreds of years ago.

Who are those people you speak of that relish these things?

Pakistanis share religious ties with all Muslims around the world, nothing more than that. I am talking the general public here, not politicians whether in Pakistan or Palestine.

They shared same religious ties with their own countrymen in East Pakistan where their army raped 90,000 of their women and butchered 3 million of their population?

Are you still talking about Muslims here or the Christians from Portugal who brought you your own beloved religion of Christianity?

When I spoke of general public I meant just that. You seemed to have missed it. Army/politicians are not the general public.

I'm speaking of a bunch of wannabe Arabs, whom the Arabs don't even consider worthy to be called true Muslims.

Islam is not like hindu religion which is limited to geography. Arabs themselves might not be worthy to be called true Muslims so I think you are confusing religion with racism.

Iran is no match for Israel. They had to do something after Israel easily thwarted whatever Iranian regime tried to do. They tried to show that they care about the events in middle east, but failed miserably as expected.

World leaders push Israel to avoid escalation following Iran attack

World leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, are pushing Israel on Monday to "avoid an escalation" against Iran in the Middle East following the Islamic Republic’s attack on the country over the weekend.

Macron, speaking to French media BFMTV and RMC, said his country had carried out "interceptions" of some of the missiles Iran launched at Israel and that it will try to "convince Israel that we must not respond by escalating."

"We have condemned, we have intervened, we will do everything to avoid an escalation, an inferno," Macron added, noting that France will work to "isolate Iran, increase sanctions and find a path to peace in the region."

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz also called on Israel on Monday to "contribute to de-escalation" in the Middle East and that "Iran must stop this aggression."

Iran launched hundreds of drones and missiles at Israel in response to a deadly strike on the Iranian consulate in Syria earlier this month that left 12 dead, including Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a senior commander in Iran's Revolutionary Guards Corps. Israel did not claim responsibility for the strike.

An Israeli military spokesman said 99% of Iran's drones and missiles were intercepted.

In an interview with the BBC, British Foreign Secretary David Cameron said,"I think they're perfectly justified to think they should respond because they have been attacked, but we are urging them as friends to think with head as well as heart, to be smart as well as tough," according to Reuters.

"In many ways this has been a double defeat for Iran," Cameron was also quoted saying to Sky News. "The attack was an almost total failure, and they revealed to the world that they are the malign influence in the region prepared to do this. So our hope is that there won't be a retaliatory response."

Meanwhile, House Speaker Mike Johnson is expected to bring a spending package to the House floor this week that will provide more wartime aid for Israel.

Iran is no match for Israel. They had to do something after Israel easily thwarted whatever Iranian regime tried to do. They tried to show that they care about the events in middle east, but failed miserably as expected.

On the contrary, the average person must be left wondering why USA and UK forces had to step in to provide a shield for Israel if Iran is no match for them. Why not just let israel wipe the floor with Iran - if as you claim, Iran is no match for them - and that would be the end of it?

This is an era of coalition forces. No country fights alone. They always have partners who help them when the enemy attacks.

Iran has some real fake friends like China which does not want to be involved in wars. They can do posturing and blow some real hot air. But nothing substantial. China has not fought any real war since 1962.

On a side note, Pakistan should be happy too to see Iran getting owned.

You didn't say that Iran was no match for the coalition, you said Iran was no match for israel. I was taking you at your word, obviously if you were talking about NATO or Namunah ( the non-Muslim brotherhood) then that would be a different scenario.

On your sidenote, I am not a Pakistani so I can't really speak for them whether they should side with israel against Iran. Maybe there is already some thread where Pakistanis can give their opinions on it. I know there is one for indian support of israel.

Majority posters supporting Palestine here supported Russia in the other conflict for last 2 years.
So it’s political.

I’m ready to accept Israel and Russia are aggressors.

Iran and its buddies are no match for Israel and its buddies. I hope you are happy.

Happy has got nothing to do with it. There just wasn't any good reason for you to make the assertion that Iran was no match for israel if you didn't actually mean israel but instead were talking about the USA and the UK. Maybe you should have said Iran is no match for the Five Eyes nations, the direct descendants of the British Empire.

Iran attack: Europe aviation agency urges caution in Israeli, Iranian airspace

Europe’s aviation regulator reaffirmed advice to airlines to use caution in Israeli and Iranian airspace though it said no civil overflights had been placed at risk during weekend tensions surrounding Iranian drone and missile strikes on Israel.

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) said it and the European Commission would “continue to closely monitor the situation to assess any potential safety risks for EU aircraft operators and be ready to act as appropriate.”

EASA guidance that is already in place for airlines on Israel and Iran continues to apply, it said in an emailed note.

That included exercising caution and following all available aeronautical publications for Israel and neighboring airspace up to 100 nautical miles surrounding the country.

For Iran, it recommended caution and said “there continues to be an increased potential for miscalculation and/or misidentification” in airspace over the Iranian capital Tehran.

Global airlines face some disruption after Iran’s attack on Israel with more than 300 missiles and drones, which were mostly shot down by Israel’s US-backed missile defense system or its allies before they reached Israeli airspace.

The attack was in response to a suspected Israeli airstrike on Iran’s Syria consulate on April 1 in which seven Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps commanders and officers were killed.

EASA said all affected airspaces - Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Iran - were closed by the relevant authorities during the relevant period.

“There was no overflight risk for civil aviation at any time,” it said. An overflight involves an aircraft transiting through airspace, typically at high cruising altitude.

All the temporary airspace closures imposed at the weekend expired on Sunday, EASA said.

So basically Israel will keep killing Iran’s scientific and diplomatic citizens and Iran will attack informing 72 hrs in advance without causing any casualties to Israel.

A few posters on a cricket forum isn't representative of the world population. As an example, a huge number of non Muslims have been demonstrating against the Gaza war.

Also, aside from the rights and wrongs, Ukraine has a professional army to defend against Russia including massive amounts of military aid at the start. Can you really compare that to a technologically advanced army massacring women and children?

Not comparing just saying both are wrong.

It does seem that Iran is more wary of getting drawn into a war with the USA rather than israel itself, that is their dilemma.

The Netherlands to reopen Tehran embassy, does not rule out new closure

The Netherlands says it will reopen its embassy in Tehran tomorrow after closing it for two days for safety reasons.

It adds in the statement that it does not exclude a new closure of its embassy: “The security of the representation continues to be closely monitored, making a new closure possible in the near future.”

Yesterday, the Dutch government advised against all travel to Israel due to the uncertain security situation following overnight airstrikes by Iran.

Israel faces many complications over if - and how - to strike back against Iran

No military options come without complications and though the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) are undoubtedly strong, they face many complications in considering whether, and how, to strike back against the barrage of drones and missiles Iran launched against them at the weekend.

Many strategic analysts in the IDF argue that the Iranian attack showed that deterrence had failed and therefore must be restored with a strong attack that would make Israel's enemies fear to provoke it again.

Others have maintained that running the risk of Israel being pulled into a greater conflict with Iran at such a critical juncture in the Gaza war could result in their falling into exactly the trap Hamas was trying to set for them on 7 October - a general war that would threaten Israel's very existence.

So Israel's response will have to be carefully calibrated.

A non-military response might involve economic and diplomatic pressures, building on the wide international consensus that roundly condemns this barrage of drones and missiles that Iran fired at Israel.

Such an approach would win favour in the international community but might prove very difficult for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to sell to his hardliners.

A military response might range from attacks on Republican Guard individuals and facilities as they operate in Iraq, Syria and Yemen.

This would act as a signal to Tehran, but not attack Iranian territory directly, and therefore only likely provoke a rhetorical response from Tehran.

A much stronger military response might involve attacks inside Iran itself.

This would represent a powerful escalation. And it would be complicated.

IDF aircraft would have to fly over 600 miles just to reach the Iranian border, and would have to transit Iraq, Jordan or Saudi Arabla - who would certainly not give them legal overflight rights across their territories.

Alternatively, Israeli aircraft might avoid land by flying all the way down the Red Sea, round the Gulf of Aden and into the Persian Gulf, to arrive over Iranian territory from the south west. The distances involved would be more than doubled and the attendant risks greatly increased.

Or again, Israel could fire rockets and missiles at Iran. This would remove any overflight rights problems as long as they were high-flying ballistic missiles, not cruise missiles.

But the damage they could do would be limited, the numbers employed could not be great, and the whole effect of their use would be subject to interpretation.

There is no real substitute - in these sort of exchanges - for aircraft, flying towards their targets and then releasing their bombs and missiles on the basis of the immediate circumstances on the ground.

Whatever the Israeli government decides to do - and it will decide to do something - it will have to square it within its own fractured domestic politics, with its allies, and with the wider world.

And then it will have to think what effect it might have on Tehran.

So basically Israel will keep killing Iran’s scientific and diplomatic citizens and Iran will attack informing 72 hrs in advance without causing any casualties to Israel.
The rules of the game have changed, they have said they will hit back harder if attacked.

Are you still talking about Muslims here or the Christians from Portugal who brought you your own beloved religion of Christianity?
My bad, it must have been the British Raj which brought Protestant enlightenment to Assam.

What do the Portuguese have to do with Christianity? This is what you resort to when you have no answer. I was raised by my maternal grandmother, who is a converted Christian, and I practice both Christianity and Hinduism. My grandma was not Portuguese. The British and Portuguese had nothing to do with her conversion; she believed and converted on her own. She is the only person in our family who converted. I believe in Jesus equally as I believe in Lord Rama or Krishna, who were all great human beings who walked on the earth.

Speaking to reporters from the Nevatim Airbase, Herzi Halevi, chief of staff of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), says Iran's attacks over the weekend "will be met with a response".

His remarks come after Israel's war cabinet met to consider its response to Tehran firing more than 300 projectiles towards Israel.

Halevi says Israel is looking ahead and considering its next steps.

"This launch of so many missiles, cruise missiles, and UAVs into the territory of the State of Israel will be met with a response," he adds.

The poster I was answering to mentioned hindus being converted by the sword and as I know that the Portuguese and the British both carried Christianity to the subcontinent I was assuming that is what he meant as he is a Christian.

I thought that as well but seems that Christians in India seem to share hindutva views that only "wannabe arabs" were converted by the sword which is a strange enough belief anyway coming from supposed Abrahamics who took on the faith of their conquerors. I mean I could understand hindutvas raging with that view, but strange views for Christians to espouse.

It's an interesting set of beliefs to hold. Genuinely quite interested in how he navigates the differences in the religions of he is willing to share.

about poll added to this thread, Iran has certainly achieved what it wanted. All they wanted to show was that it was ready to fight back. Nothing else, They were not looking to start a war and if they had done nothing, they would have looked weak. This was a carefully thought-out response mostly aimed at their domestic crowd and sympathizers. Most sources are saying they had warned 2 days before the attack and Jordan has already announced no fly zone and all the forces were ready to shoot out whatever Iran sent out.

Israel with the USA will eventually avenge this attack. It will be an air attack causing massive damage to the arrogant Iranians. We need to understand that Iran is no friend our Pak's either playing their terror games in our country. The only hope they have is China and/or Russia may come to help them when and if the Israel attack them.

I genuinely interested in how believers navigate the conundrum of all powerful all merciful god who lets so many atrocities happen.

As Matt Dihaunty puts it, if I'm capable of stopping an atrocity like child rape, I'd do it. thats the difference between me and god.

Israel attacked and destroyed Iran embassy in Syria killing 7 including 4 Iranian commanders

Israeli military chief vows response to Iranian attack

Israeli leaders appear to have concluded that to deter Iran effectively, they must hit back for firing its massive missile barrage.

Visiting the Nevatim air base, which was lightly damaged by the Iranian attack, the Israeli military’s chief of staff, Herzi Halevi, told air force troops that the launch of so many missiles and drones would be met with a response.

The challenge for the war cabinet is to find a way to deliver a powerful message without fuelling a regional crisis.

Iran launched its unprecedented attack in retaliation for a deadly air strike on its embassy compound in Damascus, which is blamed on Israel, and has signalled that it doesn’t seek further escalation.

World leaders have expressed fears there could now be more open warfare between the long-time enemies with the violence emanating from the Gaza war spreading further.

A third meeting of Israel's war cabinet set for Tuesday to decide on a response to Iran's first-ever direct attack was put off until Wednesday, as Western allies eyed swift new sanctions against Tehran to help dissuade Israel from a major escalation.

Military chief of staff Herzi Halevi had promised that Saturday night's launch of more than 300 missiles, cruise missiles and drones from Iran at Israeli territory "will be met with a response", but gave no details.

An Israeli government source said the war cabinet session scheduled for Tuesday had been put off until Wednesday, without elaborating.
President Joe Biden told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the weekend that the United States, Israel's main protector, would not participate in an Israeli counter-strike.

Together with European allies, Washington instead strove on Tuesday to toughen economic and political sanctions against Iran in an attempt to steer Israel away from massive retaliation.

David Cameron holding talks in Israel to urge against war with Iran

Lord Cameron has urged Israel to do "as little as possible to escalate" tensions in the Middle East, ahead of talks with PM Benjamin Netanyahu.

Israel has vowed to retaliate after Iran's unprecedented missile and drone attack at the weekend.

The UK foreign secretary will push Israel to rein in the scale of its response over fears it could lead to a wider war.

He called on Israel's government to be "smart as well as tough".

Speaking to reporters shortly after arriving in Jerusalem on Wednesday, Lord Cameron said he was there to "show solidarity after that appalling attack by Iran".

He continued: "It's right to have made our views clear about what should happen next, but it's clear the Israelis are making a decision to act.

"We hope they do so in a way that does as little to escalate this as possible. And in a way that, as I said yesterday, is smart as well as tough.

"But the real need is to refocus back on Hamas, back on the hostages, back on getting the aid in, back on getting a pause in the conflict in Gaza."

Later, Lord Cameron will travel to a gathering of G7 ministers in Italy, where he will push for coordinated sanctions on Iran.

He has accused Tehran of being "behind so much of the malign activity" in the Middle East and called for other countries to adopt measures designed to restrict Iran's influence.

"They need to be given a clear unequivocal message by the G7," Lord Cameron said. "And I hope that will happen at the meeting."

The US and European Union are considering further sanctions, and Israel is calling on its allies to designate the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) - a major military, political and economic force in Iran - as a terrorist organisation.

The Israeli government has repeatedly vowed to retaliate after Iran sent more than 300 drones and missile towards Israel in an unprecedented direct attack overnight on Saturday.

Almost all the projectiles were intercepted by Israel's air defence systems, with the help of the UK, US, France, and Jordan.

Iran's direct attack on Israel was carried out in response to a strike in Syria on 1 April which killed senior Iranian military figures. Israel has not publicly confirmed it was behind the attack, but is widely believed to have been.

On Tuesday evening, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak spoke to Mr Netanyahu and warned that "significant escalation will only deepen instability in the region", adding: "This is a moment for calm heads to prevail."

Lord Cameron will seek to reinforce Mr Sunak's call for restraint during his visit to Israel, and put more pressure on its leaders to do more to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza - but he is walking a delicate diplomatic line.

The foreign secretary will not want to appear to be hectoring an ally which has just been subject to an unprecedented attack on its soil.

That is why Lord Cameron is also talking about the need for Hamas to release hostages and the importance of western powers imposing yet more sanctions on Iran.

His presence in Jerusalem is a show of support and solidarity - but also an attempt to warn Israeli leaders that any significant escalation would be against their interests and the world's.

Lord Cameron is one of several Western foreign ministers who are expected to visit Israel in the coming days to convey that message in person - he briefly met German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock over breakfast on Wednesday.

Lord Cameron and Ms Baerbock later met Israeli President Isaac Herzog.

The foreign secretary is also due to meet Israeli Foreign Affairs Minister Israel Katz, and will hold talks with Mohammad Mustafa, the prime minister of the Palestinian Authority.

Iran military chief at army parade says forces on high alert

The head of Iran’s military says the country’s security forces are on high alert, speaking on the sidelines of a military parade at which Iran displayed attack drones, ballistic missiles and other weapons.

Maj. Gen. Abdolrahim Mousavi says even deadlier weapons were kept out of the parade but will be deployed in case of an Israeli retaliation for a weekend drone and missile attack.

“Currently, we are in a state of readiness to deal with possible evils, and what we displayed throughout the country today was a small part of our capabilities,” he says, according to state-run media.

He also claims that Israel has decided not to embark on a military response due to its monitoring of Iran’s defensive measures.

Iran’s Su-35 Fighters, S-400 SAM’s Acquisition Would Make ‘Mission Impossible’ For Israel – US Media

Amid escalating tension between Iran and Israel following Iran’s recent attack on Israeli targets, reports from The Washington Post indicate that Tehran’s proposed procurement of Russian Su-35 fighter jets and S-400 air defense systems could significantly bolster Iran’s military capabilities, posing a massive threat to Israeli security.

According to US Intelligence officials cited in the report, Russia is advancing agreements negotiated in secret to supply Iran with Su-35s, well known as one of Russia’s formidable fighter-bombers.

For Iran, this acquisition could mark a substantial upgrade for its air force, which predominantly consists of rebuilt US and Soviet-era aircraft dating back to before 1979.

The purchase of these fighter aircraft has been a topic of discussion since March 2023, when Iranian state media reported that a deal had been completed to acquire Su-35 Flanker-E fighters. Tehran is anticipated to receive a minimum of 24 jets, which were initially designated for Egypt.

However, so far, there is no public evidence of the Su-35s being delivered, with a possible delay attributed to Iran’s payment process, as indicated by US and Middle Eastern intelligence officials familiar with the deal.

The report also underscores Iran’s interest in acquiring Russia’s advanced S-400 air defense system. Last year, an Iranian delegation visited a Russian defense plant where they examined the production of various air defense systems, including the S-400.

The S-400, known for its capability to detect and destroy a range of aerial threats, possibly including stealth aircraft, could significantly augment Iran’s ability to defend against Israeli strikes.

While the extent of Iran’s progress in acquiring the S-400 remains undisclosed, American and Israeli sources have been warning since last year about Iran’s efforts to secure this state-of-the-art defense system.

According to intelligence officials, Iran’s collaboration with Russia is mutually beneficial, with Russia also gaining from the partnership.

Oh nice, didn't realise Iran had these advanced weapon systems.

Edit: Sorry didn't read the article, see its a proposed acquisition, hope they get them as it will be a good deterrence against western dogs zionists.

A former Israeli spy agency official says targeting nuclear facilities in Iran is "on the table" - as a report suggests Israel considered, but decided against striking Iran on Monday. Meanwhile, Iran's president warns the "tiniest move" against the country would bring a "fierce" response.

How well could Iran defend itself against a potential Israeli attack?

Israel has pledged to “exact a price” from Iran in response to missile and drone attacks launched by Tehran in retaliation to the deadly bombing of its consulate in Syria at the beginning of this month.

Israel’s war cabinet has met several times to debate a course of action to complement a diplomatic push against Iran since Saturday’s unprecedented direct attacks on Israel, with Israeli army chief of staff Herzi Halevi saying a military response is certain.

Iranian President Raisi threatened a “massive and harsh response” on Wednesday if Israel decides to launch a direct military assault on Iranian soil. So how effectively can Iran defend itself if such an attack occurs?

For decades, Iran has increasingly insisted on relying on its local capabilities when it comes to its economy, but a similar push can also be seen in its military sector.

Much of that sentiment is rooted in Iran’s eight years of war with neighbouring Iraq, which invaded Iran in 1980 under former ruler Saddam Hussein. Baghdad was militarily backed by a multitude of foreign powers, including the United States.

Hampered by decades of sanctions and embargos, Iran’s air superiority is still heavily challenged, with some of its fighter jets and equipment, including US-made F-4 and F-5 fighter jets, dating back to before the country’s 1979 revolution – which overthrew the West-backed monarchy of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi.

Iran now mostly operates Russian Sukhoi and MiG fighter jets that date back to the Soviet era. The Iranian air force has been building its own jets too, like the Saeqeh and Kowsar which are based on US designs, but they are not believed to be a match for some of the top fighter jets like the F-35s that Israel employs in large numbers.

A delivery of two dozen Russian-made Su-35 fighter jets, negotiations for which have been ongoing for some time, could significantly revitalise the Iranian air force, but it would not eliminate the need for robust air defence batteries.

Israel reserves 'right to protect itself' after Iran attack: Netanyahu

Iran launched more than 300 drones and missiles at Israel over the weekend in an attack that caused little damage after most of the projectiles were intercepted.

The Israeli military has vowed to respond, prompting a diplomatic flurry aimed at calming the Middle East.

Israel's allies in Washington and Brussels have pledged to ramp up sanctions against Iran, while British Foreign Secretary David Cameron and his German counterpart Annalena Baerbock became the first Western envoys to visit Israel since the attack.

Netanyahu told the visiting ministers that Israel "will reserve the right to protect itself," his office said.

The pair offered "all kinds of suggestions and advice" during a meeting, Netanyahu said. "However, I would also like to clarify: we will make our decisions ourselves."

For his part, Cameron said "we're very anxious to avoid escalation and to say to our friends in Israel: It's a time to think with head as well as heart."

Baerbock emphasised that "the region must not slide into a situation whose outcome is completely unpredictable."

Tehran has vowed to hit back if its arch-foe Israel responds to the Saturday attack, which itself was launched after a deadly strike on Iran's Damascus consulate building earlier this month that was widely blamed on Israel.

Citing three unnamed Israeli sources, ABC News reported on Thursday that "Israel prepared for and then aborted retaliatory strikes against Iran on at least two nights this past week."

Among the range of possible reactions considered by the Israeli war cabinet were options to attack Iranian proxies elsewhere in the region or to conduct a cyberattack, the sources told ABC.

Meanwhile, the war in Gaza that has sent regional tensions soaring continued unabated with efforts at a truce appearing to flounder, as key mediator Qatar said it was re-evaluating its role in the stalling negotiations.

Iran sanctions push

Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi warned after the attack of "a fierce and severe response" to any retaliation, and on Wednesday his country celebrated its annual Army Day with a parade featuring various attack drones and long-range missiles.

Also on Wednesday, Tehran-backed Hezbollah wounded 14 soldiers, six seriously, in a strike on northern Israel, the Israeli army said.

This was the third day in a row the Lebanese militant group had wounded people in Israel, amid near-daily cross-border fire since the start of the Israel-Hamas war.

Later, Israel hit targets in eastern Lebanon, far from the border, a Hezbollah source told AFP.

Israel's top ally the United States has made clear it won't join any attack on Iran, vowing instead to level more sanctions against the country's missile and drone programme, its Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and the Iranian defence ministry.

Nevertheless, on Wednesday US Republicans unveiled a bill that would provide $26 billion of military aid to Israel which appeared to have White House backing.

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said Brussels was also working to expand sanctions against Iran, including its supply of drones and other weapons to Russia and to proxy groups around the Middle East.

French President Emmanuel Macron said the EU and its allies had a "duty... to expand these sanctions", while Baerbock said Berlin backed further sanctions.

Cameron also urged the G7 to adopt new "coordinated sanctions against Iran," ahead of a meeting with counterparts from the Western-led grouping in Italy.

Deadly strikes in Gaza

The Israel-Iran tensions have threatened to overshadow the Gaza war, even as deadly bombardment and combat raged in the besieged territory.

Talks toward a truce and hostage release deal have stalled, said Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, despite months of effort also involving US and Egyptian officials.

He later said that his country was undertaking "a complete re-evaluation of its role because there has been damage to Qatar", which does not have diplomatic relations with Israel.

The Israeli military said Wednesday its aircraft had "struck over 40 terror targets throughout the Gaza Strip" over the past day.

When one strike hit the southernmost city of Rafah, where 1.5 million Palestinians are sheltering, Jamalat Ramidan said she "woke up to the sounds of girls shouting 'mama, mama, mama'."

As she fled the carnage alongside the children, they stumbled over "body parts and corpses scattered all over the place," Ramidan told AFP.

The war was triggered by an unprecedented attack on Israel by Hamas on October 7 that resulted in the deaths of 1,170 people, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally based on Israeli official figures.

The militants also took about 250 hostages, of whom Israel estimates 129 remain in Gaza, including 34 who are presumed dead.

Israel's devastating retaliatory offensive has killed at least 33,899 people in Gaza, mostly women and children, according to the health ministry in the Hamas-run territory.

Aid sent by sea

Israel has faced growing global opposition to the relentless fighting in Gaza, which the United Nations and aid agencies have warned has pushed the north of the territory to the brink of famine.

But Netanyahu rejected any claims about famine on Wednesday, saying Israel is doing "above and beyond" what is needed "on the humanitarian issue," his office said.

The Israeli army said that eight trucks of food aid from the World Food Programme that arrived via Ashdod port in Israel had entered Gaza through an Israeli land crossing.

It is the first time UN aid has travelled through the sea port since Israel said it would open it earlier this month following international pressure.

However, the veto-wielding United States has repeatedly expressed opposition to the move.

IRGC commander suggests Iran may reconsider no-nukes policy amid Israeli threats

A senior commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) hinted on Thursday at the possibility of Tehran reassessing its stance on nuclear weapons amid escalating tensions with Israel.

Ahmad Haghtalab, the commander of the IRGC unit responsible for safeguarding Iran’s nuclear sites, said that Israeli threats against Iran’s nuclear facilities could prompt a review and potential shift in Iran’s declared nuclear policies.

Israeli threats “against Iran’s nuclear facilities make it possible to revise and deviate from the declared nuclear policies and considerations,” the semi-official Tasnim news agency quoted Haghtalab as saying.

Iran has always maintained that its nuclear program, a longstanding source of tension with Western powers, is solely for peaceful purposes.

On April 13, Iran launched hundreds of drones and missiles at Israel in its first-ever direct attack against the country. The attack came in response to a deadly strike on Tehran’s consulate in Syria earlier this month, which the Islamic Republic blamed on Israel.

Iran said its attack was “completely successful,” but Israel said the attack caused minimal damage after the majority of the projectiles were intercepted.

Israel has vowed to respond to the Iranian attack, and airstrikes against Iran’s nuclear sites are a potential option for Israeli retaliation.

“Through passive defense measures, highly advanced facilities and equipment, and due to the dispersion of our country’s nuclear facilities across Iran’s vast territory, we are ready to face any threat from [Israel],” Haghtalab said.

He said that Iran has identified Israeli nuclear sites and warned that Tehran would retaliate with strikes against those sites should Israel launch an attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities.

“If [Israel] wants to take action against our nuclear facilities, we will respond by attacking its nuclear sites using advanced weaponry,” Haghtalab said.

Indian crew member from MSC Aries seized by Iran returns home

An Indian woman who was a crew member on the MSC Aries container vessel seized by Iran on April 13 has returned to the country, India's foreign ministry said on Thursday.

The ministry said that its mission in Tehran is in touch with 16 other Indian crew members still aboard the vessel which was seized by Iran's Revolutionary Guards in the Strait of Hormuz.

"The crew members are in good health and in contact with their family members in India," the ministry said in a statement.

The vessel was seized days after Tehran vowed to retaliate for a suspected Israeli strike on its consulate in Damascus on April 1.

Indian foreign minister S. Jaishankar spoke to his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amirabdollahian this week seeking the release of the Indian crew members.

US slaps new sanctions on Iran’s drone program as Israel considers response to weekend attack

The United States slapped new sanctions Thursday on 16 people and two entities associated with Iran’s drone program as it looks to punish Tehran for last weekend’s attack on Israel.

The sanctions target executives of an engine manufacturer that supplies Iran’s Shahad-131 drones, which were used in the onslaught, as well as companies that service the engines and individuals associated with providing the drones to Iranian proxy forces throughout the Middle East.

The Treasury Department also said it was punishing five companies associated with Iran’s steel industry and three subsidiaries of an Iranian automaker.

The new sanctions, which were coordinated with European allies, are an effort to cut off supplies to Iran’s missile and drone program and to isolate the country on the global stage.

But they are also a signal to Israel from the United States and its top allies that countering Iran’s latest aggression doesn’t necessarily require a military response.

“We’re using Treasury’s economic tools to degrade and disrupt key aspects of Iran’s malign activity, including its (unmanned aerial vehicle) program and the revenue the regime generates to support its terrorism,” said Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen. “We will continue to deploy our sanctions authority to counter Iran with further actions in the days and weeks ahead.”

“Our actions make it harder and costlier at every turn for Iran to continue its destabilizing behavior,” she said.

Over the weekend, Iran launched more than 300 missiles and drones toward Israel in a retaliatory attack for an Israeli airstrike on a diplomatic compound in Damascus that killed senior Iranian military officials. Israel, with the help of the United States and other regional countries, intercepted most of the incoming fire.

After the attack, President Joe Biden consulted with fellow Group of 7 leaders to condemn the attack and develop a diplomatic response, including developing new sanctions.

Biden and other leaders have called on Israel to exercise restraint following the weekend attack, hoping to prevent a wider regional conflict. The US and other countries have said the successful interception of the Iranian barrage was ample demonstration of Israel’s military superiority.

Israel, however, has not yet said how it will respond. The country’s war cabinet has met periodically this week without announcing any definitive action.

In a phone call on Saturday evening, Biden told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu the US would not participate in offensive action against Iran. Instead, the White House has been clear it intended to take economic action against Tehran as punishment for the unprecedented attack on Israel.

Thursday’s actions will augment what is already one of the most stringent regime of US sanctions. The US has long sought to squeeze Iranian officials and industries as a way to punish the regime for human rights abuses and to prevent it from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

Earlier this week, Yellen did not rule out applying sanctions on Iranian oil exports. Doing so could risk the potential of higher gas prices and of angering China, a top buyer of Iranian oil.

These sanctions are increasing enmity between Iran and the USA, no positive result will come out of it.

Sometimes US and EU countries are too harsh while imposing sanctions on Iran.. few years back Iran purchased a fleet of Airbus 380 from Airbus. Airbus was supplying spares to Iran’s 380 fleet. However, a year later something was happened between Iran and US, US President Barrack Obama immediately imposed sanctions on Iran which was followed by EU. Airbus too stopped supplying spares to Iran’s Airbus 380 fleet. It’s manufacturers responsibility to provide spares subject to whatever the situation may be. At present, the condition of planes aren’t good, some parts needs replacement, such planes are dangerous to fly. If any mishap happens then who will be responsible? US, EU, Airbus or Iran?

These sanctions are increasing enmity between Iran and the USA, no positive result will come out of it.
The attack on the Iranian consulate was part of the plan. Knowing that Iran would retaliate in some way, it was golden opportunity to take attention away from Israel's crimes in Gaza and elsewhere. Then using the retaliation excuse, impose these sanctions by the US and West. The whole thing was planned out.

While most of this is true, there's also a (not so) subtle element of racism there. Israelis for most of the west are seen as 'people like us' - white skinned, European migrants with similar political systems, values etc. compared to the 'towel headed' sea of barbarians they are surrounded by.

Israel has done an excellent job projecting itself as the only natural ally of the west in the strategic middle east.
It was the west who put the pests there in the first place
