"It's heartbreaking to see Pakistan bowling short...I mean all their success I remember (Wasim & Waqar) would come from a full length, either LBW or bowled"

It's heartbreaking to see India bowl, in general. We are coping with it. Shouldn't be hard for you.

At least he's showing genuine concern for Pakistan's plight, having played against 90's team it must be difficult form him to witness the trash served up today.

Ofcourse its heart breaking when you were their bunny and current Indian batsmen aren't.

he should have said, its heartbreaking to see pakistani pathetic mediocre bowling

I think barring wahab we bowled ok. Hassan went for a few too many in one over but that happens these days.
Everybody is going for 300 in these conditions ( I'm talking top 5 teams)

We are not even trying hard to bowl.... its men vs kids... we Pakistanis are going easy on you kids and letting you enjoy cricket... we also don't want to embarrass you with our real magnificent world class bowling..

He has a point, i couldn't figure out what lengths we were trying to bowl today. Either too short or too full.....

The last 4 of 5 overs it was like Kohli was batting in the nets against the bowling machine and asked the coach to have the setting on 'half volleys'

Pakistan deserve to face the humiliation on world stage to realize they need to fix their domestic cricket and pick players on merit for you to stand a chance against good teams. I feel the Pakistani fans need to be realistic and manage expectations. But, if you tell me wahab riaz is the top 4 best bowler from pakistan then there can't be a more factually incorrect statement, same goes for hafeez and a few others. Shadab Khan is a world class player and he played his cricket in pakistan if it wasn't for Deno's recommendation he would never have got an opportunity so early in his career, so pakistan will continue to produce quality cricketers so long as India continues to be a cricket mad nation, therefore its not doom and gloom at all infact, i feel this is a good Pakistan unit just need a few games where the core of the players are retained and given a longer rope, eventually those players will blossom into quality cricketers.

absolutely ! Pakistan bowled very well except wahab. VK's 2 sixes of Hasan Ali was quality mind boggling batting.
A good captaincy would have had India reduced to 280-290. He should have attacked with Wahab and Amir in first 10 overs. Hasan is a good first change bowler and then Imad and Shadab should have bowled in tandem. He was very defensive with bowling and fielding.

Well said.

It's like when current commentators who were ex-players are shocked at the demise of the West Indies as they all remember not being able to sleep the night before the match and terrified of facing the likes of Michael Holding or Viv Richards

Well there is no swing or reverse swing on offer anymore so would be foolish to bowl fuller

Short bowling is okay if it is targeted and intelligent. The problem comes when they are short and wide of off stump or slow bouncers which sit up to be picked up for six.

Other than Amir and Shadab, the rest were quite ordinary, mate. Maybe they should have given Shoaib another over or two.

Good post.

Blame Azhar Mahmood, since he became bowling coach all our pacer adopted this length, and become tulenders

Pre 2011 WC Pakistani pacer were a bowling force but last six seven years thanks to Azhar Mahmood they have become just pathetic

Hassan was quality. 5 overs for 19 runs after a solid openingredients stand (had one free hit in that that went for 4).
Everybody is going to score 300 batting first and India only gt up there because of wahab (and amirs injury)

Sanjay Manjrekar: "It's heartbreaking to see Pakistan bowling short"

In an era of such flat surfaces and the hitting ability that ODI and T20I batsmen posses nowadays, it´s near comical to see a bowling team constantly hope for short bowling to work as a tactic, despite the evidence from previous delivery suggesting exactly the opposite. Wahab is a big time culprit as far as this is concerned. He needs to go. Enough of hoping against a hope.

72 off the last four overs killed any hope or chance that Pakistan would´ve had from this game. Still, the batsmen showed no intent whatsoever, and what that means is a big defeat here and Pakistan might face an elimination due to the net run-rate even if they beat South Africa and Sri Lanka. However, seeing the way they´ve played today and the way Sri Lanka played the warm-ups and fought with South Africa for good 60% of the match, I´m worried about them even winning against the latter, which´s supposed to be a lesser team than theirs.

The likes of Hasan Ali etc would have been net bowlers during the 90's yet nowadays they form the main attack. Hard to believe this current crop of bowlers is the best in Pakistan

I like Sanjay. He is a very likeable man with a good Cricketing brain. He also seems to have a very soft spot for Pakistan as well. The two W's are history, we need to produce another batch of classy fast bowlers.

He's a mild mannered polite person and it comes across in his commentary. Of course he will favour India but I have often heard him talk favourably about past legends other players he competed against.

It's truly heartbreaking to see Pakistan in this state.

We fans want a team that is competitive, giving a good fight against great teams.

Unlike the rude Shastri when it comes to tameez....

Love your posts. Agreed 100%.

He said perfectly right this is not our style of cricket.
The reason behind this is that the current lot haven't played with our besties and their knowledge is not transferred to the next generation.

Don't go overboard. Hasan Ali actually bowled well. He was nailing so many yorkers at the end, but when bowling to totally set Yuvi and Kohli and anything that isn't perfect goes for six, it's just not easy.
