Tasnim – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who is on an official visit to Pakistan, said Prime Minister Imran Khan has put forward a “very good” initiative to help end the Saudi-led war on Yemen, which has killed and injured over 600,000 civilians.

“The Pakistani prime minister has offered a very good suggestion to end the war against the Yemeni people,” Zarif told reporters in Islamabad on Wednesday.

“We negotiated with the (Pakistani) foreign minister, the army commander, and the prime minister in this regard,” he said, adding that he voiced Iran’s readiness to help end the suffering of the Yemeni people and stop the Saudi-led attacks.

The Iranian top diplomat further expressed the hope that Pakistan and other countries would be able to pursue this issue as there has been an international consensus to end the Yemeni war.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Zarif dismissed recent media reports about Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir’s contact with Iran and Tehran-Riyadh talks about regional developments, including Yemen, saying, “As far as I know, such a contact has not been made and the Saudi government has not established such a contact.”

The remarks came as Yemen’s defenseless people have been under massive attacks by the Saudi-led coalition for more than three-and-a-half years but Riyadh has reached none of its objectives in Yemen so far.

Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies have been carrying out deadly airstrikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to fugitive former president Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

The Yemeni Ministry of Human Rights announced in a statement on March 25 that the war had left 600,000 civilians dead and injured until then. The war and the accompanying blockade have also caused famine across Yemen.

Brilliant stuff by Imran Khan. One thing you cant question on him is his intention.
He needs good advisers and a cool head

This is a horrible crisis brought on by Saudi and Irans desperation to be top dog. As the old African proverb goes when two elephants fight its the grass that gets trampled. Its the poor Yemenis that are being killed.

Pakistan should end isolation with Israel and isolate Saudi Arabia. The biggest terrorists and threat to Islam.

Sometimes I do think an all out proper war between Saudi and Iran would be good for the development of the region and religion.

It took two world wars and millions dead before Christian Europe realised the folly of war and gave rise to EU.

Like I said, sometimes I think that. I would want Iran to win, the Persians are better than the Arabs and no I am not an ex Shia.

A war between the 2 in the current climate would be a disaster for the whole region. I cant stand either, both are countries with no care for Islam, theirs is an ego war, which neither side wanting to lose face. At this point in time the Saudis are bigger morons than the Iranians.

Can't do anything about this Mullah plague at home, doosro ko naseehat dene chale hai ..

Nothing that a multi billion trade deal can’t solve. I’m sure that both Iran and Saudi Arabia would rather prefer making money from each other because both these countries are going to be facing international isolation in the near future. Both these regimes should move forward from their petty grudges and focus on joining the civilised world of the big boys.

The Saudis have been thwarted by Iran at every turn be it in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Yemen where the inept Saudis can't even defeat a bunch of Houthis despite being armed to the teeth with American and British firepower.

MBS made a fool of himself by attempting to isolate Qatar, and his kidnapping of the Lebanese PM has also backfired. He has overreached big time by ordering the murder of Jamal Khashoggi and then attempting a shambolic cover up. That's what happens when you have more money than sense.

It's a shame Pakistan have been so deep in the Saudi camp that it cannot maximise the benefits of a relationship with the resource rich Iranians who are a neighbouring country.

I dont like the Saudis much but if you look at our history, Iran has always been on the side of Ind.

What do you suggest? concentration for our religion loving mullahs?

The only way to tackle this issue, other than the final solution, is to make improvements in our education system and let time run its course.

You cannot simply change a mindset of a generation(s) in 5 years, however you can ensure that your education system teaches your youth to be more open-minded and tolerant and eventually, the new way of thinking will outnumber the old way of thinking.

This is exactly how Imran Khan came to power. After every 5 year period, his electoral vote bank increased as those kids who were unable to vote in previous elections could vote now and similarly those who voted in previous elections, conservative minded people, had left us for a better place.

This is how we will change Pakistan. Not by hanging these mullahs but making sure our future generations do not have the same mindset as them.

71 Ind-PK war?

Yes. After '65, we were sanctioned by the US. Our whole Airforce was of US origin. Iran bought various aircraft (f-86s, C-130s) and transferred them to PAF. Buring the 70s baloch insurgency, Iran provided heavy lift Ch-47 choppers to Pak Army to move military units.
Through out 50s/60s/70s Pakistan,Iran & Turkey were part of CENTO/SEATO (kind of extension of NATO)

Pak-Iran relations started to cool down after the revolution, the Ayatollahs didn't care much about non Shias plus our military had very strong ties with the Shah. Things deteriorated when afghan war started and we started to tilt towards the Saudis. With pro Wahabi doctrine proliferating Pakistani society along with Saudi money, we saw a lot of prominent Shias in Pakistan targeted. A group of Iranian Army Aviation cadets (10+ IIRC) were gunned down in Rawalpindi in the 90s. There were attacks on Iranian diplomats and cultural centers as well.

Thanks for your informative post

What?

Iran played an important role in the Indo-Pakistani war of 1965, providing Pakistan with nurses, medical supplies, and a gift of 5,000 tons of petroleum. Iran also indicated that it was considering an embargo on oil supplies to India for the duration of the fighting.[1] The Indian government believed that Iran had blatantly favored Pakistan. After the suspension of United States military aid to Pakistan, Iran was reported to have purchased ninety Sabre jet fighter planes from West Germany, and to have sent them on to Pakistan.

Iran again played a vital role in Pakistan's 1971 conflict with India, this time supplying military equipment as well as diplomatic support against India. The Shah described the Indian attack as aggression and interference in Pakistan's domestic affairs; in an interview with a Parisian newspaper he openly acknowledged that "We are one hundred percent behind Pakistan".

On 19 November 2010 Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei appealed to Muslims worldwide to back the freedom struggle in Jammu and Kashmir, equating the dispute with the ongoing conflicts of the Greater Middle East region.

In 2017, Iran's leader Ayatollah Khamenei said that Kashmiris are being oppressed. He also urged Muslim world to "openly support people of Kashmir and repudiate oppressors and tyrants who attacked people in Ramadan".

71 Ind-PK war?

They were very close allies. my brother spent part of the 70s in Iran. Had a great time.

Then Russia invaded Afghanistan
Shia religious takeover of Iran
Iran and Iraq war

Steadily started to drift. But even so, pakistan still gave them the nuclear plans.... Always comes a shock to Iranians when you tell them that Iran got the technology from Pakistan.
