A biopic on Pakistani cricketing legend and politician Imran Khan is in the works, Dawn reported. Directed by Faisal Aman Khan, the film is titled Kaptaan and features Abdul Mannan as Imran Khan and Saeeda Imtiaz as his first wife Jemima.

The movie will shed light on Khan’s personal life, Saeeda Imtaz said. “Kaptaan has nothing to do with elections,” she told Dawn. “It’s a film purely on his personal life, like his life spent with Jemima and politics, but not the other wives that he has at the moment. There are a lot of things that people might not know and they’ll find out because of the film,” she said. No release date has been set for Kaptaan.

Abdul Mannan told Dawn that he had met Khan to prepare for his character. “We met around three times...It’s a demanding role but I did the best that I could,” he said.

After a hugely successful career that put Pakistan on the world cricketing map, Imran Khan turned to politics in 1996. The party he founded, Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf, is among the frontrunners in the upcoming general election on July 25. Khan is the party’s prime ministerial candidate.

Imran Khan has been married thrice. After divorcing Jemima in 2004, he was married for nine months to journalist Reham Khan. In February 2018, Khan confirmed rumours that had persisted for two years that he had tied the knot with his spiritual advisor, Bushra Manika.

In her recently published eponymous memoir, Reham Khan has recounted lurid details of her brief marriage, including allegations of repeated infidelity, black magic and drug abuse. Reham Khan claims that she met a few Indian producers to make a biopic on Khan. He reportedly approved, but wanted the narrative to end with his first marriage.

Click through to see a couple of pictures - that actor looks quite similar to Imran Khan.

Whoops...title should be 'on Imran Khan'.

There hasn’t been a watchable biopic across any film industry since Malcolm X.

"Kaptaan" is gonna be a small time like movie that will pass without anyone noticing it. Pak should remake "Jinnah" on a big budget scale as the original did not do justice to the great man. Talking of Pak movies Ali Zafar's "Teefa In Trouble" is supposedly a cracker! Anyone here seen it?

It's a very small budget movie with mediocre actors and this movie is being delayed from 6 years lol it was actually made in 2012 and was suppose to release in 2013 i don't think it's gonna be a hit.

I think Lollywood should make a biopic about IK. His life stories is very inspiring and is full of ups and downs.

I have no clue why you guys don't have a biopic of IK yet. Any reasons?

Because it will be Hollywood who will immortalise his legend. No need for lollywood or even Bollywood to destroy the legacy.

Agree with Rana - he is too big a personality to be have a tacky bolly or lolly wood movie.

Yes Hollywood will make a $200 million biopic on him because people in USA are dying to see his movie. The movie would surely gross over $2 billion worldwide.

They will also include his meeting with Trump where he made the latter look like a beta male.

On a serious note, a Lollywood biopic is in the works and it is near completion. It is titled “Kaptaan: The Making of a Legend”. It was due to be released last year but has been delayed due to some reason.

They are. It was due to be released last year but it has been delayed, probably because they want to include his tenure as PM. Had he lost the election, it would have hit the cinemas by now.

A Lahore stage show biopic of Nawaz Shareef would be viewed world wide

Hmm I don't think he's that big a name right now to get a global movie. If he solves Kashmir issue and brings everlasting peace to sub continent then probably can.

Much-delayed Imran Khan biopic set for release

Kaptaan, a biopic on cricket legend Imran Khan, will finally release this year.

The movie has been in the works for over six years. A trailer of the film was first unveiled in 2013.

Saeeda Imtiaz and Abdul Mannan, who essay titular roles in the movie, spoke exclusively to The Express Tribune on this account. “The idea of Kaptaan came around in 2011. We conducted a workshop that year to translate the vision into a film. Filming commenced a year later,” Imtiaz, who plays the role of Khan’s first wife Jemima Goldsmith, said.

“The film was originally slated for a 2013 release, right before general elections. The release got stalled after Khan met an accident before the polls,” the Wajood actor added.

Imtiaz spoke about how she met the cricket legend in late 2013 after Kaptaan’s filming was complete. She also revealed that while Khan’s consent had been secured before work commenced, the film’s producers were not keen on executing the project after the 2013 accident.

Imtiaz said Goldsmith was mighty pleased with how she had been portrayed onscreen. “I had an email conversation with her in 2013. She said she had loved the way we’ve portrayed her in the film. Goldsmith was ecstatic on learning that I was playing her onscreen,” the starlet said. Imtiaz was also supposed to meet her in London but the meeting was cancelled due to protests.

Speaking of his role in the film, Mannan said he didn’t really know much about the PTI chairman’s life. “There was an uncanny physical resemblance but I knew I still had a long way to go. I had to emulate his mannerisms, gait, speech. I spent a day with him just to observe.”

Mannan added the film delved into hitherto untouched aspects of Khan’s life. “Around 60% (of the film) is premised on his personal relationships. Kaptaan will also shed light on his relationship with Goldsmith,” he said.

Imtiaz said the scope of the film was limited to the formative years of Khan’s political innings, the crises he surmounted and his marriage to Goldsmith. “The film is complete. All we need to do is hire a director to re-shoot and edit some sequences.” Mannan added how a part on former prime minister Benazir Bhutto was axed. While a release date is awaited, both actors appeared confident of the film finally seeing light of the day this year.

Well that will never happen. To many powerful individuals/organisations depend on the sustainability of Kashmir conflict.

I guess. I think he has had a phenomenal life and from sub continent perspective it can be the best biopic. Certainly quantit wise his life has the most masala for a movie. I hope he brings peace to sub continent and resolves Kashmir issue and makes you guys a good developed state. If he achieves all that in next 15 years he can go down as a true global icon/leader

He started on a great note and gave people hope, but in the last few years he has become a puppet of the military. He has flushed his manifesto down the toilet and walked back on everything that he has said in the past.

He is a con-artist who has fooled the masses, but his cult followers are too blind to see.

His biopic would be all lies post 2013, but his journey as a cricketer and his early years as a politician would certainly be worth watching.

Then why did you vote for him? not once but twice :)))
