Lahore Qalandars [168/7] reach PSL 7 final with stunning 6-run victory over Islamabad United [162]

Today I saw the mettle of some pakistan players!

Abdullah Shafique STOOD UP!

Harris Rauf STOOD UP!

Kamran Ghulam STOOD UP!

Zaman Khan never gave UP!

Shaheen Afridi fought hard!

Wiese was the difference in both final overs. A clutch performance if I've ever seen one.

It should be a good final. In the end, 2 deserving teams are in the final - good for PSL.

There is so much to like about Kamran Ghulam.. have been his fan from his under19 days ..

WhT i really appreaciate is that abdullah shafiq is junior. Yet in the rain and in a pressure situation he held on to a catch.. he kept his back side in check making sure wasnt touching the boundary.

Damn had waqas got that 6 we would had tied it.

Asif ali is a buffoonnn... And waseem khan jr is the biggest fool thinking he would be the match winner by hitting the winning strike. What a fool man

Waseems thinking was awful. He isn't Dhoni and should have taken the singles. Take it to the last ball and then have a go.

ISLU had the firepower to chase it down. They underachieved badly in the tournament given the talent they had in the squad. Glad LQ got into the final, i want them to win given that they are the only PSL side not to have won the tournament so far.

Agreed I hope LQ win. The tournament needs this for future editions

Man of the match Wiese

salt shouldnt be batting higher than weise, weise had a few good games with the bat, lahore should bat as fakhar, shafique, ghulam, hafeez, brook, salt/patel- both have batted poorly - cant decide who should go bater higher between the two

Salt is a good batesman but he's looking terrible in this tournament so far I would continue batting salt In the oppe ning slot.

Patel is a tail ender and should not be batting higher than 8

IU also made a technical blunder by sending Ather Mahmood ahead of Waqas. People who follow domestic cricket know that Waqas is a clean striker of the ball and this perhaps wd also hv made Waseem today take those singles..

Atleast u realise now Asif ali is made of what. The last thing that should happen is him playing for Pakistan and bottling big games against big opposition.

Don't think wasim would have taken the single even with ather at the creese.

So many games , the people who call him finisher might be referring him to finish the game on opposition’s favour. :shappy

Apart from that one game in world t20 where he took Kareem jannat apart I haven’t seen him do much with the bat.

The batting order today was correct. Openers have to fire, no need to shuffle it.

Maybe bring in Sohail Akhar if they can to strengthen the lower order a bit.

If only somehow Rashid Khan can play on Sunday! Fly in and out!

This loss really hurts man..... We were going to the finals. I tried my best to jinx it. :))

At one point it was near run a ball, how can we losee itt... Unbelievable..

Yes I would keep the batting line up the same as Patel offers overs with the ball.

That's twice Islamabad lost the game against Lohare.

Waseem Jnr should be banned from playing cricket until he grows a brain

That was awful stupid stuff from him

The moment that sealed the game. I thought it was heading for 6!

i stood up to this, i knew the boundaries are damn short and i was thinking damn did the no.10 just smash a six.... as the ball flew in the sky i was relieved that atleast now its tied.

As soon as the Shafiq caught it i was surprised the ball never travelled, if only the wind had assisted us, if only there was abit more elevation in that shott..... if only iffffff

Fielding overall is quite ordinary in this PSL, but lahoris didn't drop any in the last 4-5 overs.

That was easy match for IU.

Asif Ali have no brains , no game awareness.

T20 cricket is a game of fine margins, and that 27-run over by David Wiese kept haunting Islamabad throughout their run-chase, and it proved to be the biggest, if not the only, difference between the two teams.

Absolutely delighted for Lahore, even if I was supporting Islamabad. The best match of the tournament, well and truly. A stunning turn-around effected by the Lahore bowlers! It's always good for the tournament if the home team plays the final. This Lahore team plays with a lot of emotions and hearts, and most of it must be down to the home crowd. Lahore winning the PSL in front of their own supporters would be great sight to witness. Waiting eagerly for Sunday......

to be honest, i knew lq was gonna win because having watched IQ alot, they fail to finish games. Asif Ali is no more as good as he was last 2 seasons ago. Thus, LQ was always ahead as Islamabad no more had the finishers they once thrived on.

Faheem Ashraf was missed today and the decision to send Hasan Ali in at the wrong time played a huge factor aswell. Maybe had Hassan come towards the end things could had been different. But than again, i am glad Hassan Ali is not baring the blame of this loss

Aside from what was an incredible game, just shout out to the Lahore crowd. It’s such an electric atmosphere, even to watch from your TV screens.

If at all possible, I’d love to see Multan, Pindi and Peshawar as venues next year. Having vociferous home support makes such a difference to the viewing experience!

I hope Lahore do it in the final, man. Multan are almost like a well oiled machine, whilst Lahore are your neurotic, mercurial joy ride that’s just so much fun.

David Wiese came out guns and blazing in the final overs of both the innings for Lahore

David Wiese produced a sensational performance in the final overs of each of the two innings of the HBL PSL 7 Eliminator 2 against Islamabad United in front of a packed to capacity Lahore crowd at the Gaddafi Stadium on Friday night to guide his side to a six-run win and a place in the HBL PSL 7 final alongside defending champions Multan Sultans on Sunday.

Weise turned the game on its head with the bat as he scored 26 runs off the final over of the Qalandars innings bowled by Waqas Maqsood. Waqas also conceded a wide, leaking 27 runs in the over as Qalandars went from a seemingly below-par 141 for seven to 168 for seven total in a matter of six balls. Weise remained undefeated with his explosive 28 off eight (one four, three sixes).

The Qalandars all-rounder then conceded just one run off the four balls of the final over he bowled as Mohammad Wasim Jnr was run out and Waqas brilliantly caught in the deep by Abdullah Shafique as United were bowled out for 162 with two balls to spare.

Qalandars won the toss and opted to bat. The home side was dealt a body blow in the first over when Liam Dawson sent back the tournament’s leading run-getter Fakhar Zaman (1). Dawson then accounted for Phil Salt (2) in his second over.

Qalandars fought back with a 73-run third-wicket partnership between Abdullah and Kamran Ghulam. Abdullah delighted the GSL with a series of eye-catching as well as power packed shots on his way to his maiden HBL PSL half-century. The right-hander top-scored for Qalandars with 52 off 28 (four fours, three sixes).

Kamran contributed 30 off 26 (three fours, one six). After the departure of Kamran and Abdullah, Qalandars stuttered in the middle overs. Samit Patel scored 21 (18) while Mohammad Hafeez struggled to get going with a run-a-ball 28. It was the final over that turned the tide in their favour.

Dawson with two for 24 (four overs) was the pick of the United bowlers.

Other performers

United lost four early wickets and despite a quick start were in real trouble at 46 for four (5.4 overs) with Paul Stirling (13), Will Jacks (0), Shadab Khan (14) and Liam Dawson (12) all back in the dugout. Qalandars skipper Shaheen Shah Afridi took two of the first four wickets to fall in an inspired opening spell.

Alex Hales (38 off 29, two fours and one six) and Azam Khan (40 off 28, three fours, two sixes) revived the United chase with a 79-run fourth-wicket stand.

Qalandars clawed back in the game with United seemingly in command with Azam’s run out at 125 in the 14th over. After Hales was dismissed by Haris Rauf, Asif Ali kept United poised for a win with 25 off 22.

However, United kept losing wickets and when the last over started they needed eight runs but Wiese ensured that the Lahore supporters return home in a joyous mood.

For Qalandars Haris, Shaheen and Zaman took two wickets each. United lost three wickets to run outs in their innings.

Player of the match David Wiese: “Unbelievable game and unbelievable team effort. The last over with the ball became easier for me when Haris got the wicket before the over began. I wanted to bowl dot balls and we got a run out also in the middle that made things easy. It has been amazing to play in front of such a wonderful crowd that has come out to support us all the way, it has been absolutely incredible.”

Scores in brief:

Lahore Qalandars 168 for 7, 20 overs (Abdullah Shafique 52, Kamran Ghulam 30, David Weise 28 not out; Liam Dawson 2-24, Mohammad Wasim Jnr 2-25)

Islamabad United 162 all out, 19.4 overs (Azam Khan 40, Alex Hales 38, Asif Ali 25; Haris Rauf 2-31, Shaheen Shah Afridi 2-32, Zaman Khan 2-32)

Love how Shaheen has taken to the captaincy. His passion shows how much he wants to make it count. Watch and learn Azhar Ali

Glad to see the end of IU, the most overhyped franchise.

Imagine having players like Shadab, Hales, Asif, Faheem, Munro, Stirling, Hassan, Wasim, Azam and still failing to finish top 2.

Goodbye Islu Burgers, enjoy your flight back home.

Only 5 wins out of 12 matches for IU.

That's a pretty awful record.

I'm surprised your comment hasn't been deleted yet. I called Hafeez and Malik 2 of the biggest leeches in Pak cricket and my comment was removed from this thread lol

Well I just stated the limitations , with that in hand they were able to prolong their careers.

Numerous times have seen Hafeez play that cut shot straight to the Point fielder , and he repeats and retries that again , again to the same fielder.
