You’d think the final H would be some top brass, but no, turned out to be an ‘incompetent’ Buckles.

I reckon there could be a series 7. I expect mega criticism from fans after watching this ending.

Carmichael would’ve been so much better as the last H.

Quite an anti climax but a great season overall. Im intrigues as to who signed the letter by faking Kates signature. I thought that was an important detail that didnt get mentioned again.

It might actually be a very clever ending. In real life, the man “at the top” (who actually is getting managed from below and has limited power) is often a great big wally. There are many examples of this in politics and business.

seems like they played it safe with the ending, leaving enough room open to come back for a seventh season if it gets another spin, while giving a plausible enough ending in the event that was the end. as its been said was fairly anti-climatic, but a great show nonetheless.

The Times have reviewed the final episode in Monday's edition, and lets just say, we're not the only ones who felt the episode was underwhelming.

By the way, who signed JD's transfer papers? Couldn't have been Buckles, he was in prison?

Not motivated to see this show, police procedural’s are a bit too typical over here. But I look forward to the Vigil, now there you have an interesting and refreshing premise

This. The finale was meant to answers many questions but instead raised many more.

Seem like series 7 is on the cards.

Ok so that was the realistic, mundane, gloomy and “institutional corruption” ending — which will be fine and acceptable in the end, that is, as long as we get a seventh series (or at the very least an extended Christmas special or film version) where we get our true “Line of Duty”-style ending: I’m thinking Steve, Kate, a reluctantly supportive Carmichael, and Civilian Ted teaming up to take down the bent Chief Constable Osborne and his flunkies!

We just need one more experience of Kate and Steve’s “mate”-ness, Ted’s one-liners and the tense glass box interviews; with lots of car smashes, overturned vans, AFOs, OCGs, guns, dodgy text messages and implausible plot twists thrown in!!

Then the show can be nicely put to bed and preserved in the televisual annals.

Kate interviewed Ryan Pilkington in season one, Steve even had his hand in a vice grip with Ryan trying to take his finger off...

So with that in mind how did this kid grow up to be a cop and work at Hillside with Kate in the same department/team? Why didn't she pick up on it immediately??

He was groomed and his records were hidden due to being a juvenile and there was also some shady dealings during his vetting.

As for Kate not recognizing him, he was a kid at the time and she had a nagging feeling after having met him again this season, she even asked him if she knew him from somewhere and he asked whether she had come to give a talk or so at the training college, which she obviously hadn't. As for Steve he didn't know of the appointment, infact when the first raided The Hill, Ryan stayed with his back to him whilst he was sent back due to Kate informing Davidson beforehand but once he was shown Ryans picture later on, he identified him immediately.

A good finale if this isn't the last episode as it keeps the suspense from the previous seasons going on and it could possibly be an intentional side track, However if it wasn't I guess the amount of interest generated in this season due to everyone being home might force Mercurio to come up with a 7th season and wrap everything up neatly, however I think he will probably be doing that after The Bodyguard 2.

I'm watching from the beginning again. Onto Season 2 now.
Just that the kid played such a massive part in the first season and his name was known plus he was interviewed by Kate but I guess some years had passed....

All in all the finale wasn't as bad as people are saying, the first 35 mins or so till the reveal were solid. Its probably because of the high standard expected from seasons past or just the extra interest and over disection by new fans and the usual over whining on social media.

I've been watching this series from the start and actually turned a lot of people on to it when it wasn't so hip and the "in thing" right now and I am quite satisfied with the finale.

The thing is, going on past seasons, it could all be a ruse. He probably isn't H and just a distraction. Many pointers like why Fleming fled the scene, who forged her signature, etc are still to be explained and may very well be crucial factors going ahead.


My point was those who have watched this show from the start for years know that you cannot be certain of anything and this finale could just be the build up for the next season, as has usually been the case.

i think its safe to rule steve out, we've seen enough of him looking truly baffled by whats going on. cant rule out ted or kate though, will be a massive finale.

Line of Duty is set to return with an explosive climax to the series after fans were left “disappointed” by the season six finale last year, it has been reported.

Actress Vicky McClure has also said she’d “love to” link up with her co-stars again.

Adrian Dunbar, Martin Compton and Ms McClure are all said to be reprising their roles for a three-part BBC special which could be aired as early as Christmas 2023.

The Sun has reported that an insider said: “Viewers weren't satisfied with the ending of series six and were crying out for a more sensational conclusion — now [writer] Jed [Mercurio] can deliver that.

“The question is whether the person we were led to believe was H really is the villain that AC-12 has been hunting or if it was another nemesis.

“The fact that they're looking at taking the unusual step of making three episodes rather than the usual six or seven is a reflection of just how special this is for the show.”

The BBC was contacted by the Belfast Telegraph and said it “will not be commenting on" the rumours.

In the aftermath of the last series fans of the show took to social media in their droves to share their frustrations.

The words “underwhelming” and “disappointed” trended after officers from the police anti-corruption unit AC-12 discovered the identity of the elusive 'fourth man', who had been colluding with the organised crime group (OCG), was none other than the bumbling policeman Ian Buckells.

The disbelief it could be him was compounded by the way he was only caught because of his repeated mis-spelling of the word “definitely”.

The detective was first introduced to viewers in series one as the SIO in the case of murdered businesswoman Jackie Laverty by then Chief Superintendent Derek Hilton.

He later went on to become Detective Chief Inspector in series four before being promoted once more to Detective Superintendent in the final series.

Vicky McClure has admitted the show's cast would all “love to” reunite for another series but hinted that her co-star Martin Compston's busy schedule might be an issue.

Appearing on Tuesday's Good Morning Britain the actress discussed the potential for the return of the BBC drama.

Speaking on GMB, she said: “I speak to the lads all the time, we'd all love to, we're all game - Martin's in nine shows! It's busy, I'm sure we'll get there.”

Ms McClure said she is in a “busy” Whatsapp chat with her Line Of Duty co-stars, including Northern Ireland actor Adrian Dunbar, who played Superintendent Ted Hastings.
