I reckon probably about 75% of today's crowd is Indian.

Pakistanis losing interest in cricket or the Indians quicker to buy the tickets?

Indians generally buy these tickets up much earlier. They even buy tickets for the final in the HOPE they will be involved.

Crowd:
#1. Host England.
#2. Ind.
#3. BD.

Watch the BD-Aus game tomorrow.

Maybe it's due to Ramadan... me and my dad were thinking of going down from Glasgow but it would be really tough with the long fasts

Lot's of fan didn't go due to Ramadhan. Rightly so there's more important priorities things then a cricket match.

Would've gone myself but too difficult in Ramadhan.

Ramadan is the reason I imagine. Also, the way Indian fans buy tickets in advance is insane. They buy all semi final and Final tickets well in advance. You'll see at least 80% of the crowd in the Final will be Indians, even if India fail to reach it.

Because they have common sense. They know pakistan have no chance of winning.

I'm actually feeling bad for the remaining 25% crowd. What humiliation, and waste of money over such pathetic team.

Pakistanis are among the first to buy tickets, only to sell them to Indians at 30% higher. I read that on PP only few years ago. Somebody please confirm.

Why see the trashing live and be taunted by opposition fans when you can watch on the big screen and turn off when needed?

indian fans tend to buy the tickets a lot earlier with it being ramadan and Pakistan being a generally crap team not surprise Pak fans have stayed away.

this team has no big superstars to attract casual expat Pakistani fans. Cricket especially isnt that popular amongst the younger 3rd and 4th gen Brit Pakistanis.

Football MMA Boxing has taken over cricket in that regard.

That's disappointing. Even in Birmingham and Bradford?

one day match, i gotta see ahmed shehzad play for his spot, azhar ali struggle, hafeez hang on to a non deserving spot, wahab the champion bowler. No thanks, keep your pounds and spend the 8 hours wisely elsewhere... :afridi1

They are mugs to be honest, Pakistan don't win these games even when they have strong teams just need to look at their historic records to see that. When you look at the body language of the players it doesn't seem like they are that bothered about winning this one.

Gotta feel for Pakistan as you guys are running into an ATG Indian team.

The Pakistani contingent in the crowds in the England tour last year were fairly healthy. Atmosphere in the Cardiff ODI and Old Trafford T20 was superb.

ExpressPacer dont know about Birmingham maybe shaz619 can help you. But most Pakistani lads from my generation im from Bradford those in their early 20s dont like cricket that much either. My cousins gen who are in their late 30s have a lot more cricket fans.

But my younger brothers gen i.e millenials born after 2000 very few of them care for cricket.

football is the most popular followed by boxing mma and even wrestling for younger kids.

with this Pak team being so average too it doesnt really appeal to young kids. Crickets rules and the length of the game doesnt appeal to the ipad generation as much.

Very interesting. Didn't know MMA and boxing was that popular among expat Pakistanis.

Markhor in next few gens interest in cricket for expat Pakistanis will reduce a lot esp if our current malaise continues.

Hard to tell, India's credentials will be tested by a better team that is properly motivated. It doesn't need an ATG Indian team to win these encounters, generally the results are fairly easy to predict regardless of the players involved.

Cricket remains incredibly popular amongst kids of PK background but many are not there because of Ramadan and the fact that the Indians are better at getting tickets.

Don't blame them.

Why would they want to watch these idiotic tactics and selections.

Pak fans should boycott !

We did buy tickets, but sold them all at 4x the face value to all the Indians :))) Adil_94

It's Ramadan so the turnout is bound to be low. When I went to the Pakistan ODI game at Lords against England last year there was a very good turnout so we can rule out the fact that our team has no main stars. We always turn up in England for Pakistan games. I was considering to go to today's match however fasting and travelling will be too much. If it wasn't Ramadan the turnout would be much better.

Excuses are out... lol.

Pak team was not motivated. Otherwise they would have thrashed this Indian team.

a) Indians outnumber us in UK by a mile
b) we buy them and sell them on for a higher price

I think one of the other things is that Pakistan don't have the superstars they once had. The likes of Wasim, Imran Khan, Waqar, Inzamam, Shahid Afridi, who were all major draws for the fans.

Really poor from Pak fans because I always thought there were more Pakistani than Indians in Birmingham

1. Ramadan. I personally don't wish to attend cricket / events during this holy month.
2. Pakistan already played a full tour last year, and are coming back next year for a short tour. Maxed out on Pakistani cricket.
3. Weather. Risky to attend early June especially games outside London.
4. Lack of star Pakistani names.
5. Opposition. No fun to see your team humiliated by your neighbours and have their fans rub it in your faces.

Sad to say when Pakistan -India tickets go on sale for World Cup 2019 I won't be bothering to purchase. Would rather see an even contest and your not getting that with these two teams.

Well fasting during Ramadan and the prospect of being surrounded by Indians munching away on Samosas and their pints of beer, I think watching it home is the sensible option.

Babar, Shehzad, Sarfraz?

Having attended the 1999 match I always wanted to attend it in 2019, but I now feel exactly the same as you, it's like the Ashes during the 90's, no contest and even the Aussies were craving some sort of competitiveness after a while as it became boring.

Absolutely....

Yes. I went to most of the 1999 pakistan games and had a blast. Sad to say but hard pressed to want to watch them when the end product is so poor.

Main reasons for low turnout I think:

1) Ramadan and fasting ( sitting next to people eating and drinking alcohol not appealing in the slightest)
2) Expecting to lose to India (sad but true fact for around ten years now)
3) Indian fans just seem more proficient at obtaining tickets despite the ballot system (not sure how as it's supposed to fair for all)
4) Pakistan team lacks the flair and superstars it once had until around the mid 2000's

There is no star power in the team. Most know they will lose.

I really hope the World Cup 2019 match isn't scheduled during Ramadan, or it will be a repeat of today with 75% of the crowd wearing blue.

They are losing support very fast

Most people in U.K. are sick of this team

None of these players are stars

Our cricket is finished

Just look at these players they are physically inferior to the Indians the Indians are much taller bigger and stronger athletic

Pakistani people from Pakistan are very unhealthy and have a bad diet compared to the old generation of Pakistanis.

Told you again and again, Pakistanis are losing interest in cricket. They don't have a high-ranked football team otherwise all of them would have cheered for them in stadiums.

Who would want to waste their money on these kind of displays?

Pak in ODI's are beyond pathetic.

Pakistan cricket following the hockey's fate. Remember there was a game people used to play with sticks , called hockey.

Why anyone wants to spend their money and waste their time in an ODI or T20 match is beyond me. It's not just about the Pakistan team, it's the overall state of the sport, it's a mess.

The main problems I have is:

1. T20 and now ODIs too are simply not even close to being balanced. It's all in favour of batsmen and it bores me seeing 300 and even 350+ scores regularly.
2. Time wasting, the entire sport needs to clamp down on this, it's ridiculous how often they need commitee meetings after each ball. It kills the flow and I hate it.
3. Lack of skill in T20s and ODIs, you have garbage like Pollard and Sharma glorified for their exploits but we all know how dreadful they are. Very easy to score 100s on a flat track with no slips and a non-swinging/seaming ball.

If I ever go to a cricket match it would be for the 2nd or 3rd day of a test.

I might start going to cricket matches if we get wickets that give us 45 all out plays 44 all out. I am sick to death of these high scoring borefests.

Babar, Shehzad, Sarfraz?

They are no nobodies.

Shehzad doesn't have the performances to back up his personality, while Babar and Sarfraz have zero charisma and star quality.

More Pak's then Indian's in the UK yet they outnumbered us like this. Many may have come from abroad though. It is partly to do with many of our people losing interest in Cricket.

Smart people who chose not to waste their hard earned money on this pathetic team.

And to think I was planning on flying all the way from Toronto to go watch the match. Thankfully better sense prevailed.

Being at the match yesterday, I would actually say that 85% of the crowd were Indian and the rest were made up of Neutrals and Pakistan fans.
Ramadan has a lot to do with it as well as our 8th place ranking.
The last time we outnumbered the Indians was the 1999 world cup match at Old Trafford.

Tickets were on a ballot system - so its difficult to say that Indians somehow bought the tickets faster.

A lot of tickets sold on a secondary market as well, with a lot of Indian buyers. I know someone (an Indian) who purchased tickets at 800 a pair. Personally, I couldn't justify spending that on this Pak team. Maybe if we had the likes of Wasim, Waqar, etc. and the match had some prospective of being competitive.

Why would most Pakistan fans want to turn up and watch the current ODI team when we are a minnow outfit and the game was always going to be a massacre.

Pakistan fans need a team to watch. The gulf in class between Blue and Green on the field is forever increasing.

I think the ticket allocation was questionable. So many Pakistanis wanted tickets but we were not allocated tickets. The lottery system used asked what team one supports :S

I went to Old Trafford last year and that was 90% Pakistani so we do attend but couldn't get tickets this time around.

My stand only had 5% Pakistani fans. Spent the entire day listening to Indian chants.

Were you in the Eric Hollies stand because I was one of only about 15 Pakistani fans in our block and we were just heavily outnumbered by Indians. There was quite a lot said to us but it was all in good spirit which I appreciated. The team was so pathetic that some of the Indians asked why were we still there and they would've walked if it was the other way round. When we left we were met with handshakes, waves and cheers from the Indian fans for sitting through that awful display which just shows how badly Pakistan played that the opposite fans felt pity for us. Though I do thank the Indians fans for the fact that there was no hurtful comments directed at us even though we were completely outnumbered by them and that most of them were probably drunk considering the amount they drank :)):)):))

Not in the Eric Hollies stand. I was in the stand where Wahab was fielding at the start of the match, third-manish from one end and midwicket from the other.

Let's just say the Indians in my stand weren't as nice. When Malik hit a few boundaries and Pak fans started chanting, he did utter some unpleasant words.

A Pakistani fan also got kicked out in my stand when Dhawan and Rohit started hitting. He had a fight with the some Indian fans, don't who started it though.

Who would you go and see ?
Not one players worth the admission fee plus it was Ramzaan and it would be torture watching these .

Edgbaston cricket ground lol old days where it seemed all the locals watched cricket with a joint in there hand .

I was at the ground and also attended the 2013 fixture.

As everyone has said, Ramadan was a factor but the Pakistan fans were outnumbered in 2013 too. Some are putting it down to a lack of interest or stars but I believe the Pakistan fans were also outnumbered in the same fixture in 2004 which we actually won.

The two main factors I put it down to are:
1. There are more Indians in and around Birmingham (fact).
2. Indians are generally more active in buying the tickets and have more buying power (opinion)

I think if the match had been at Old Trafford (where I attended the t20 vs England last year), the split of fans would have been closer to 50:50.

Put it this way...I was offered a ticket in the family stand for £300. Would you like to pay such exuberant amounts to watch a team bow their heads, droop their shoulders and answer "How high" to the question of "Jump!".

Yeah me neither.

The last time we outnumbered the Indians was the 1999 world cup match at Old Trafford.

I saw some of those games and the Pakistan fans were paying big money to buy black market tickets for the knockout stages. But that was a team that anyone would pay to watch.

Was anybody else here in the RES Wyatt stand? There was a handful of us pakistanis, heavily outnumbered. I did my best to make sure i was heard though. Lots of indians approached me for selfies and a handshake saying they loved my passion. I even chanted pakistan zindabad as me and my friends left at the fall of the 7th wicket. It was the right time to go as i was fasting and had a two hour drive to get home.

Lots of indians were offering me food and drink but i had to reject due to my fast and they were apologetic for eating in front of me haha very polite of them.

A pakistani chacha said at least we have one true pakistan fan here to me which cheered me up.

We had the indian dhol behind us, as soon as he stopped playing i would get up and chant for pakistan.

Overall i was pretty dissapointed with the lack of noise created by indias fans, if it was the other way round i know edgbaston must have been rocking. Similar to old traffor t20 v england.

Poor excuse by some fans here. They don't know that we people in Pakistan writhe for international cricket to resume in Pakistan but these people who have chances to watch these games,They either sell their tickets or give poor excuses like these for not going to match.I know Pak had a pathetic team but look at Bangladesh,Everyone knew that they had nil chance against England and Australia but still their fans flock to stadium in huge numbers and I am afraid there will be short number of Pak fans even in the next games

No poor excuses. Theyre not
worth watching. Players who dont warrant selection is more than enough of a reason to not attend. Bangladesh dont have that problem

If they are superstars then God help the future of Pakistan cricket.

Babar is already averages 50 in ODi cricket and has far better stats than Kohli, Smith, Williamson at the same stage of their careers.

Sarfraz is captain in all 3 formats and one of the best Wk batsman around.

Shehzad already has 6 centuries at the age of 25.

Seems like superstars to me...

I assure if it wasn't Ramadan & if tickets were only sold at the door Pakistani would outnumber the Indians by a margin just from Birmingham. Indians are oganised & snap up tickets as they become available for sale online . Always a sellout .

Even though it was a thrashing , I'd go again tomorrow for a rematch.

Anyone can support a team when they're winning . The players tried but just weren't good enough . As a true fan That's all you can ask .
