Ok finally have some time to weigh in. Very funny to those that said Evra should be banned if he was lying. The same people now still believe he is lying and don't accept it .![]()
As for Suarez has a black heritage. Just rubbish. Black people can be as racist as anyone else and just because you are different colour does not absolve you of any blame. Cultural differences is no excuse, otherwise all those who believe it is, then you should give the same benefit to Harbhajan in the Andrew Symonds case. You live in England, you work in England and you follow English culture. Suarez knew what he was saying, or otherwise he wouldn't have repeated it 10 times. Like Sully said, rather than make it seem like it is okay to say it (regardless of culture), just admit you were misinformed and now you know.
For Liverpool FC's role in all this, pathetic. They are a huge club but the manner they have behaved this whole saga has been amateurish. United conducted themselves professionally throughout this event; keeping quiet and saying nothing ill of Liverpool. Liverpool on the other hand were making media statements during the case and now when the result does not go in their favour, rather than do damage control or just give a simple 'we are disappointed' statement - they went one further by trying to justify what he said was okay and then accusing the victim of being a liar.
Was just about to post but no need to after this as you have echoed my views.
All I will add is that to all these people saying Evra shouldn't be believed because of this supposed "past history" of lying-
- Firstly, none of us has been privy to the evidence that was presented at the hearing and based on which Suarez was found guilty.
So it is ridiculous for people to suggest that Suarez was charged and found guilty based purely on Evra's word. In any event, it seems like Suarez has admitted that he used the word(s) in question anyway in which case proof isn't required.
- Secondly, these myths about Evra's supposed track record of accusing people of racism need to be addressed.
As Sully mentioned, the incident at Stamford Bridge was reported by a member of the Manchester United coaching staff, not Evra.
The incident with Steve Finnan involved members of the public raising a compaint (http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11667_2369002,00.html). Again, nothing to do with Evra.
I agree that Evra is no angel on the pitch, and is the type of player who has the propensity to wind up opposition fans. However, that doesn't mean to say everyone should just jump on the bandwagon with the Suarez incident and say "oh it's just Evra, he just accuses everyone of being racist" because that simply isn't true.
