Manchester City win the English Premier League (2018/19)

Spurs and Arsenal reduce the gap on Liverpool. Expect Man Utd to make short work out of Newcastle tomorrow.

Would love to see Arsenal finish 4th ahead of Chelsea.

Wonder if Sarri would keep his job then? They'd almost definitely lose Hazard if that happens.

After Napoli at home , this is the biggest game of the season for Liverpool and the biggest game of the PL season so far.

It's interesting the bookmakers here have City has strong favourites. Sure they are at home and a brilliant team but they are coming up against a team which is unbeaten in the league and can score goals against anyone in the world.

For me we will see the 2 of the top 5 best teams in Europe in action tonight.

Prediction: As a LFC fan, I have to back my team to win . City 1-3 Liverpool. Salah to score a brace. :klopp

Very good game of football. Liverpool played well against a very motivated brilliant football team. Both teams had chances and imo Liverpool came closer to scoring on more occasions with some good saves and a lot of luck for City. Sane was the MOM , amazing performance and his goal won the match.

Still 4 points clear but this title race is very much truly on now.
 
We came to get a draw and failed.

Stupid tactics of starting with Henderson, gini and Milner in midfield. 4 times this season we played with this midfield and lost all 4 times..... lesson in there somewhere.

Wasn’t difficult for him in first half as the Liverpool midfield trio were parked 5 yards from the defence
 
What a pulsating match between the front two of the pack. Where as City dominated possession Liverpool had the best opportunities. If Mane's effort that hit the post goes in we most likely win the match. As it stands Man City are well in the title race now and Spurs as well for that matter. Man City did to us what we normally do to others that is squeezing us from the front not allowing us to build any momentum. Fabinho should have played from the start.

Draw would have been brilliant result, but MCity was deserving winners. Also, we were a bit unlucky - twice MC was saved by inches while Sane's shot could have come out for another couple of inches.

Today I don't think we deserved anything from this game as for the first time Klopp tried something he/LFC are not good at - play for draw. And team selection was a blunder - he picked 2 English midfielders with hardly any creative skills. Henderson & Milner can work against average teams with their hit & run game, but not against City and I am afraid we might loose to MU at Trafford as well. 4-3-3 with these 3 mid-fielder was never going to work against skillful MCity; we should have played more attacking game with 4231 formation (Wijnaldum & Fabinho behind Firmino, with Mo at CF and Shakiri/Mane at wings) - even 3-3 was possible but in that formation, but with that midfield, we were extremely lucky to go at break 1 down.

Still 4 points ahead, but we'll need players in January window. Not for starting XI, but in 2nd half of EPL, you need legs against Huddersfield, Wolves, Fulham or Burnley - we badly need couple of back-up to rest Mo, Mane & Virgil in lesser games and still win 1-0, otherwise City'll cross us by April.
 
Dominic Solanke: Bournemouth sign striker from Liverpool in £19m deal

Bournemouth have signed England striker Dominic Solanke from Liverpool for £19m.

Solanke, 21, had been due to join Crystal Palace on loan earlier this week but the deal fell through because of fitness concerns.

Bournemouth are about to allow forward Jermain Defoe to join Scottish Premiership side Rangers.

It is understood Solanke cannot move to the Cherries on loan under Premier League regulations.

Bournemouth have also signed Reds right-back Nathaniel Clyne on loan until the end of the season.

"The club is going somewhere - it's a good club to be at, especially for someone of my age," said Solanke.

Cherries boss Eddie Howe said he was "really excited" about working with Solanke.

"Dominic is technically gifted, very athletic and has the physical profile that will give us something different in our front line," said Howe.

Solanke, a former England youth international who has one senior cap against Brazil in 2017, joined Liverpool from Chelsea in 2017 after his contract at Stamford Bridge ended.

The two clubs eventually came to an agreement over the fee, which had been due to be set by a tribunal.

He did not make a first-team appearance for the Premier League leaders this season and was ruled out of recent matches because of a muscle problem.

The Under-20 World Cup winner made 21 appearances last season, 16 of which were from the bench, scoring one goal.

He never made a senior league appearance in three years at Chelsea, spending the 2015-16 season on loan at Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem, where he scored seven goals in 25 Eredivisie appearances.

Nathaniel Clyne: Bournemouth sign Liverpool right-back on loan

Bournemouth have signed Liverpool defender Nathaniel Clyne on loan until the end of the season.

The 27-year-old England right-back has struggled with injury and played only five games last season.

He has made two starts in five appearances this term and is behind Trent Alexander-Arnold in the pecking order at Anfield.

"I'm really excited by this opportunity. It's a great chance for me to come and play football," Clyne said.

"It's a great club with a great story. I can't wait to get going."

Clyne, who was also a target for Cardiff City, joined Liverpool from Southampton for £12.5m in 2015.

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe added: "Naturally he wants to play football and is very keen to bring his attributes to the team. We're excited about what he can deliver for us."

Bournemouth were without a recognised right-back because captain Simon Francis has been ruled out for up to nine months with a ruptured anterior cruciate knee ligament, and Adam Smith has been out since November after having knee surgery.

The Cherries completed the £19m signing of England striker Dominic Solanke from Liverpool earlier on Friday.

Be interested to see if Liverpool sig anyone. Klopp doesn’t seem to be that interested in signing players but with the departures today I think an addition could be on its way.

We're not interested in Fekir. The mighty Reds have done good business is selling Solanke for £19 million. We were not getting anywhere with him at all. He wasn't ever gonna break in to a first choice striker having seen him play a few times I remained unimpressed. Rumours persist that Lallana could follow as well with Turkish side Fenerbahce seriously interested. Klopp is getting rid of the dead wood, hopefully there will be a major signing or two as well before the window closes.

A lot of relief, much needed 3 points away to a stubborn Brighton side. If Mo Salah keeps making chances and scoring , we will be fine. :klopp
 
Can't wait for Spurs v United tomorrow. If United win tomorrow then top 4 is surely on. Very big if though, but definitely we can win if we play our best, Spurs lost at home to the two best teams in the league, City and Liverpool and IIRC, they were second best in both games.

You'll be 6 points behind Chelsea, so very much on if you beat Spurs. Now the easy games have gone for Ole, will he continue to play a more attacking brand? I'm not sure of Utd's defence, it's weak imo. So it might play into Spurs hand if Utd take riks going for the win.

I think 2-1 Spurs.

Regarding the top 4 race, worth noting that Man United play Chelsea in one of the last fixtures of the season, IIRC end of april/start of May. The match will be at Old Trafford, that could be absolutely huge. If we lose though then top 4 will be hard for sure, but definitely not over as still a long way to go. I just hope we don't lose as I know we'll get ripped to shreds on social media as all the teams we beat have been quite low quality.
 
Man Utd keeper won the match for them today with some good saves. Spurs seem to have a habit of losing crucial matches. With Liverpool's win here's hoping that Man City drop some points tomorrow that is unlikely. Ole doing a good job at Man Utd, not sure if he is gonna be their long time boss. Seems to be a two horse race this season with Liverpool and Man City well in front of the rest.
 
De Gea once again saved Utd, great performance along with Pogba.

Have to give credit to Utd under Ole, they are playing much better but I still have a feeling they will be playing Europa league football next season under a new manager.

David Wagner has left his role as Huddersfield manager by mutual consent with the club bottom of the league.

The German, 47, took over as Terriers boss in November 2015 and led them to promotion to the Premier League in 2017 via the Championship play-offs.

Huddersfield were one of the favourites for relegation last season but Wagner guided them to a 16th-place finish.

However, they have struggled this term and are eight points from safety after taking 11 points from 22 games.

Wagner's departure a 'truly joint decision'
Town chairman Dean Hoyle called it a "sad day", adding that Wagner's achievements over the past three and a half years had surpassed his "wildest expectations" and make him one of the greats of the club.

Hoyle said: "We took this club to the highest position it has held in almost 50 years and created memories that will last forever.

"His achievements will rightly put him up there in Huddersfield Town history alongside great names like Herbert Chapman and Mick Buxton; legendary managers who changed the face of this club.

"As I have said previously, I had no intention of sacking David this season. Subsequently, David - being the great man he is - came to us and made it clear that he needs a break from the rigours of football management.

"We discussed making that change immediately, but he also made it clear he would give his all for the rest of this season before departing in the summer if we preferred.

"We all felt that David staying at the club until the end of the season was best, but we've kept discussions open and we all now feel that the time is right to part ways.

"I know the term 'mutual consent' is often a byword for the manager being sacked in professional football, but this is a truly joint decision. David has a real, genuine love for this club and, like me, his foremost concern in our talks has been to establish what is best for Huddersfield Town."

Wagner's last game in charge was Saturday's goalless draw at fellow relegation candidates Cardiff, when the visitors were denied a late penalty.

He was named Championship manager of the year after leading the west Yorkshire side into the top flight and claimed the Premier League manager of the month award in August 2017.

In all, Wagner had a 33.1% win ratio from his 154 games as boss.

Coach Mark Hudson will take charge of the next league game against champions Manchester City on Sunday.

There was genuine warmth tinged with sadness in the words of Huddersfield Town chairman Dean Hoyle.

And this was perfectly understandable given the scale of the charismatic German's achievements at the Terriers since he was a surprise appointment to replace Chris Powell in November 2015.

Wagner set aside the comparisons with his great friend Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool to fashion a side in his own image, full of energy, endeavour and fearlessness. They achieved what many had regarded as impossible when they reached the Premier League by winning a Wembley penalty shootout against Reading in May 2017.

If this was not enough, he produced another outstanding feat of management to keep the club in the Premier League last term. They showed grit and resilience against sides with much richer resources to stay up, safety assured with outstanding draws at newly crowned champions Manchester City and Chelsea at the campaign's climax.

Life has been tougher this season, though. Wagner's side have been undermined by a lack of a goalscorer and have won only twice. Relegation looks inevitable.

However, whatever the outcome this term, Wagner will be remembered with great affection as the man who brought the fairytale to Huddersfield and whose effervescent personality galvanised the club and the town during his time in west Yorkshire.

The man arrested at Fulham's training ground on Monday on suspicion of actual bodily harm and criminal damage was the club's French striker Aboubakar Kamara, BBC Sport understands.

Neither the club nor the police have confirmed his identity, but Fulham said the person arrested was now "banned indefinitely from all club activities".

Kamara, 23, joined from Amiens in 2017.

A Fulham statement added: "The club is grateful for the swift attention and action by the Metropolitan Police."

It continued: "We will refrain from further comment but stress that we will fully cooperate with any new or continuing investigation or legal proceeding in the name of providing everyone a secure and safe working environment."

Metropolitan Police said a man in his 20s was arrested at a training ground in New Malden on Monday and taken into custody in a south London police station.

Kamara, who reportedly had a falling out with Aleksandar Mitrovic during a squad yoga session, was said to be at the club training ground looking to resolve his future.

Earlier this season, boss Claudio Ranieri said he "wanted to kill" the forward after Kamara missed a penalty against Huddersfield having refused to give the ball to designated penalty-taker Mitrovic.

He has made 15 appearances in all competitions this season for Fulham, who are second from bottom in the Premier League.

Gonzalo Higuain: Chelsea complete loan move for Juventus striker

Chelsea have completed the signing of Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain on loan for the remainder of the season.

The Argentine, 31, spent the first half of the season on loan at AC Milan, scoring eight goals in 22 games.

As the deal was not completed before Wednesday's midday deadline, he cannot play in Thursday's Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Tottenham.

"When the opportunity to join Chelsea presented itself I had to take it," said Higuain.

"It's a team I've always liked that has a lot of history, a wonderful stadium and they play in the Premier League, a league I've always wanted to play in."

The striker played under Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri while at Napoli in 2015-16, equalling the Serie A goalscoring record with 36 goals.

"He has previously worked with Maurizio to great effect and is familiar with how the coach likes to play," added Granovskaia.

"This was not an easy deal for us to do because of the numerous parties involved, but we are delighted we were able to make it happen."

Higuain was linked with Arsenal when Juventus signed him for a then domestic record £75.3m from Napoli in July 2016.

After scoring 40 league goals in two seasons, he moved to Milan in August, with the option of making the deal permanent at the end of the season for a fee of 36m euros.

His spell at Milan began well, with six goals in five games, but he only found the net once in his final 12 appearances.

Chelsea are currently fourth in the Premier League, three points ahead of Arsenal who beat them 2-0 at Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

Rafa has done his former club a big favour by defeating Man City. With Liverpool possibly going seven points clear tomorrow it's looking good for Red's fans. Man City were a bit unlucky with the Aguero goal being disallowed but really didn't create much throughout the match. Meanwhile, Man Utd limped to a home draw versus lowly Burnley coming back from 0-2 behind. Should be interesting to see if any big deals are made by Thursday 11 pm.
 
Losing to home team isn't the biggest deal in EPL, but MCity got a lucky goal in first minute, then New Castle hunted them from behind over 93 minutes!!!!!! Rafa was a tactical genius, and he hasn't lost his touch - my hunch is he'll leave in next 2-3 days unless Mike Ashley buys him few essential players. Still, I believe it's MCity's title to miss out - Pep has enough depth in his squad for 90+ points by May. Klopp has done exceptionally well to get rid of FA Cup & League Cup by early January, but he can't dodge Champion's League - with this squad, he is one injury away from missing 7-10 points in a month or in 5 weeks. Mo, Mane, Bobby, Robertson & VVD are playing non stop and from March International soccer will also start.

Still 2 days left and they have off loaded a good chunk of wage bill, also has recorded first in history of 100mn BP profit (after spending 170 mn this window, which suggests there must be some Accounting done in past to bluff fans that Yanks are not making enough) - I am expecting couple of buys/loans on last day.
 
It is for Liverpool to lose the league if we defeat Leicester tomorrow evening. The only difficult away match for us is the visit to Man Utd later on in the season. About 14 matches left with seven at home for everyone suggests with good planning Klopp's boys could end the long wait to winning the league in May. With only the league and champions league to compete for both competitions are more then manageable for the boys. We too have the likes of Matip, Gomez and Ox to return, our team is not that bare boned either that people are raving about City's depth. Even at the moment we are without players as well although it is advantageous of not having to worry about the cup competitions. At the weekend City have another tough home match against Arsenal where as we face an easier on paper West Ham away on Monday.
 
Another huge day in the title chase for Liverpool!

I think LFC having a good rest, some sun in Dubai and seeing City lose to Newcastle will give them all the energy they need to beat Leicster at Anfield.

City have been playing constantly since early December and it showed last night, their players lacked energy and fitness to push hard after going down. This is what happens when you try to win 4 pieces of silverware as a PL club. :klopp

Pretty average performance by LFC, not enough direct attacking play. However the ref was blind and poor in his choice of decisions. When you step on the foot in the area it's a stone dead penalty but the ref thought it was a fair tackle.

5 points clear so the lead has been extended.
