Manchester City win the English Premier League (2018/19)

Pressure on Liverpool tomorrow after Man City brushed Arsenal aside. At 1-1 was thinking Arsenal may get a draw until Aguero got a second before half time. Then it was just a question of what the final score would be.

Liverpool 1-0 up at West Ham through Mane although the replays showed Milner to be off-side in the build up.

MMHS, I know you don't like English players but Joe Gomez is a big miss. He's a top CB in the making. I am a bit biased as an England fan but I really rate him.

Pool title race is over. The momentum is gone.

Why the hell did Klopp loan out Clyne?!

Title race is over Hasan - normally we face this in January, but this year Klopp out performed in 1st half so it went to FEB.

And, I'll categorically say - the only reason is financial. These 6-7 top players (Allisson, VVD, Mo, Mane, Bobby, Robertson & TAA) are over worked without any back-up and now it's time to pay back - we have lost last 4 points after going ahead simply because there was a BIG gap in defense and forwards don't have the steam in this weather to charge in 2nd half. Leicester & West Ham would have conceded at least 2 each had these fixtures been in December or earlier.

I understand that it's not easy to buy players in JAN, but LFC sent Clyne to loan for saving few bucks of wage despite knowing that both Right Backs (TAA & Joe) are out for long term and that has cost at least 2 points so far against Leicester - Henderson was make shift RB and L.City could bring Alisson in game twice in 90 minutes, scored once, both times from that right wing. And, the goal they scored was absolute amateurish from LFC right back - Matip kept Maguire in play and Sir Hendo was ball watching from right back .... a Centre back got the chance to tap in!!!!! Previous week, Milner was RB and Zaha got him sent-off, Allison conceded 3, but it was covered by 4 goals - it won't happen every day.

This is after posting $150mn profit ...... still I have to believe Yanks are here for the love of the club and their ambition is to win trophies. This year Arsenal is rebuilding, MU & CFC are in a mess, hence we might end at 2nd, otherwise Yanks are damn happy as long as we are 4th.

liverpool choke in pressure like usal, but Citys momentum is nothing like last season, they have to win at all costs now against chelsea.

Everton v Man City -

Win tonight could sent MCI to top of the table!

I'm sorry I don't agree that the tittle race is over. I think City will win it. But I think they will drop points as well.

Yes I agree the lack of cover in the Liverpool defence is worrying. Sending Clyne who is a solid RB out on loan when Trent was injured was a poor decision. I thought Liverpool could have gone for a CB but depends on who was avaliable or not.

Henderson shouldn't be starting week in and week out. Him and Milner cannot cover at full back .

I think we will be better next year. Players will be sold , Raul will be working on summer deals. Couple of the academy boys should improve,Torriera and Guendozi keep on getting better. I'm sure next year we should be in the top 4 if we aren't this year.

And it finishes 2-0 to Man City who now go top of the table.

Liverpool will be tested now to the fullest. Everton did very well...much better then I had thought until the last minute of the first half. They were never going to score, was hoping they may have kept City out as well. We must win at the weekend hoping that Chelsea can get something against City on Sunday. City's experience of having won it before could be the difference. Liverpool wasted a few chances to extend their lead at the top which could return to haunt them.

Great result for Burnley today, well needed after Cardiff beating Southampton! Wonder who will get relegated. It seems inevitable that Fulham and Huddersfield are down but wonder who else will go down. It seems it's between Southampton, Cardiff, Burnley. I'm surprised hardly anyone has been talking about Brighton or Palace as relegation candidates despite the fact they're only a few points above 18th placed Southampton.

3-1 win for Spurs as they keep the pressure up on Man City and Liverpool.

Not at their best Spurs but the results keep on coming.

Man City produced a scary performance versus a classy opponent. I feel that both Liverpool and Man City visiting Man Utd could be the deciding factor. The two at the top have a very similar run up as we enter the final part of the season. Aguero was on fire today, when in such form he is near impossible to stop.

A goal in the 6th minute of injury time for Wolves as they draw 1-1 with Newcastle.

Spurs defeat almost means they are out of the running now. Big match for Liverpool that we can't afford to lose now. At a very least we need a draw.

One of the worst Liverpool-Man Utd matches in recent history. No side got going at all in either half only offering side way passes. After Man Utd were forced in to making three first half changes we should have been more proactive in the second. There was no cohesion in the front three, Mane was probably the best of the two after Firmino walked away injured. Problem with Salah is his predictability, the defenders know exactly what he is attempting to do. Sturridge is surely finished and should be moved on in the summer to be replaced by someone new or even give Rhian Brewster a chance. The best chance fell to Man Utd with a good through ball which Alisson saved well. After all is said and done we are still a point ahead Man City at the moment:ht. Next weekends visit to Everton who will be determined to take something off us will be a tough one, before that we host Watford on Wednesday.

Brendan Rodgers: Celtic boss set to join Leicester after permission for talks

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is expected to be confirmed as Leicester City's new manager after holding talks with the Premier League club.

Former Liverpool boss Rodgers is in the Midlands after discussions on Monday night and a deal to replace the sacked Claude Puel is believed to be close.

Former boss Neil Lennon is set to take over at Celtic until the end of the season, with first-team coach John Kennedy expected to take charge for Wednesday's Scottish Premiership trip to Hearts.

"Brendan has indicated that this is an opportunity he wishes to investigate further," Celtic said in a statement.

Ex-Liverpool manager Rodgers cut short a BBC Scotland interview after the champions' win over Motherwell on Sunday when asked about the Leicester vacancy.

Celtic are eight points clear of nearest rivals Rangers in the league as they chase an eighth successive title.

Rodgers has won every domestic trophy he has contested - two Scottish Premierships, three Scottish League Cups and two Scottish Cups - since arriving at Parkhead in the summer of 2016.

They reached the group stages of the Champions League in his first two seasons, but were knocked out in the third qualifying round by AEK Athens this term amid unrest between Rodgers and the Celtic board over a failure to strengthen the squad last summer.

Last week, they bowed out of the Europa League at the last-32 stage for the second successive season, losing to Valencia.

'It is no surprise other clubs want him' - Gerrard

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard played under Rodgers at Liverpool, where he narrowly failed to guide them to the Premier League title in 2014 before his departure in October 2015.

Gerrard, speaking on Tuesday, said: "Brendan has done ever so well at Celtic over the last few years. It is no surprise other clubs watch him and want to acquire his services.

"I have worked with Brendan, he is a very good coach. I am not surprised at the timing. From our point of view, we will keep an eye on it and see how it pans out. My focus is on Rangers."

Puel was dismissed after 16 months in charge following Saturday's 4-1 defeat by Crystal Palace.

The 57-year-old Frenchman left the club 12th in the Premier League having lost five of their past six league games.

First-team coaches Mike Stowell and Adam Sadler were put in temporary charge. Leicester play Brighton at home in the Premier League on Tuesday (19:45 GMT).

'The news Celtic have been dreading' - analysis

BBC Scotland sports news correspondent Chris McLaughlin

It's the news the Celtic fans had been dreading. Since taking over in 2016 he has delivered everything domestically - the double treble was secured at the end of last season and the club were on the way to making it three in a row.

But there was always a feeling the former Liverpool boss wanted to try his luck once again in English football's top flight. Suggestions he wasn't getting the boardroom backing he was looking for may also have hastened his exit - but it leaves Celtic looking to replace one of their most successful managers.

BBC chief football writer Phil McNulty

Rodgers has rebuilt his reputation in Scotland after his ultimate failings at Liverpool and is certainly not short of personality or charisma.

The 46-year-old also plays attractive, attacking football and shares in Puel's penchant for promoting young talent. And after three years and seven trophies - to date - maybe Rodgers will feel that the time is right to leave.

Brendan Rodgers Named Leicester City Manager

Brendan, 46, has signed a deal with the Foxes to June 2022 and will be at King Power Stadium for Tuesday night’s Premier League visit of Brighton & Hove Albion. He will take charge of the squad for the first time ahead of Sunday’s trip to Watford.

Joining the Club’s established team of First Team staff will be Assistant Manager, Chris Davies; First Team Fitness Coach, Glen Driscoll; and First Team Coach, Kolo Touré.

Rodgers joins the Foxes after two and a half seasons with Scottish champions Celtic, during which time he guided the Parkhead club to an impressive seven domestic trophies – including two Scottish Premiership titles.

The Northern Irishman arrives at King Power Stadium with an impressive reputation on both sides of the border, having also taken charge of Liverpool, Swansea City, Reading and Watford during his managerial career.

New Leicester City First Team Manager Brendan Rodgers said: “I’m very privileged and honoured to be here as Leicester City manager and I’ll give my life to make the supporters proud of their club.

"Together, we’ll be stronger and I’m looking forward to working with the players, staff and supporters to make the right steps forward.”

Leicester City Vice Chairman, Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, said: “I’m absolutely delighted to bring a manager of Brendan’s calibre to Leicester City and I look forward to seeing what he, our talented, young squad and our dedicated, skilled team of staff can achieve together.

“As projects, including the development of our new training ground and the proposed expansion of King Power Stadium continue to take shape, and as a young squad of great potential begins to mature, Brendan and his colleagues arrive at an exciting time for Leicester City. We’re continuing to grow as a Club and I am anticipating that Brendan’s coaching methods, knowledge and experience can enhance our journey.”

Rodgers brings with him a wealth of experience at the top level, having taken charge of well over 150 Premier League matches during his time with both Swansea City and Liverpool, as well as numerous European campaigns.

His managerial career began at Watford in 2008 after a number of years coaching in the academies of Reading and Chelsea. He successfully steered the Championship side away from relegation in his first season before a spell with former side Reading in the following campaign.

Brendan then embarked upon a highly successful spell as manager of then-Championship side Swansea City. He succeeded Paulo Sousa in the role as he built a side whose eye-catching playing style helped guide them to Premier League promotion in 2011 with a 4-2 win over former team Reading in the Championship Play-Off Final at Wembley.

The Swans won widespread plaudits for an impressive first season under Rodgers in the Premier League in 2011/12, where their stylish displays helped them to an 11th-placed finish. Such performances, particularly against the big teams, earned Rodgers a move to Liverpool in the summer of 2012.

Brendan again put together an exciting team at Anfield, and after a seventh-place finish in his first season, an incredible late run of form saw the Reds finish just two points behind champions Manchester City in 2013/14.

After a further 18 months at Anfield, Rodgers was appointed as manager of Celtic in May 2016, leading the team to a domestic treble in his first season at the helm. Celtic would also end the season unbeaten in all domestic competitions – the first Scottish side to do so in the league since the 19th century.

The following campaign saw Rodgers’ Celtic set a new British record of 69 domestic games without defeat, while also completing an impressive ‘double treble’ by winning the Scottish Premiership, Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup once again.

This term, Celtic once again find themselves at the top of the Scottish Premiership table and have already lifted the Scottish League Cup with a 1-0 win over Aberdeen in December – Rodgers’ seventh trophy in just two and a half seasons in Scotland.

Claudio Ranieri: Fulham sack manager with club 19th in Premier League

Fulham have sacked manager Claudio Ranieri, with Scott Parker taking caretaker charge of the London club who are 19th in the Premier League.

The Italian's last game was Wednesday's 2-0 defeat by Southampton, which left the Cottagers 10 points from safety with 10 league games remaining.

Ranieri, 67, took over in November after the sacking of Slavisa Jokanovic.

He was in charge for 16 league games but won only three, including a 3-2 win over Southampton in his first match.

Ranieri led Leicester City to a miraculous Premier League title triumph in 2016, but was dismissed by the Foxes just nine months later.

He took over on a "multi-year" contract at Fulham when the Cottagers were bottom of the table with five points from their opening 12 matches, but failed to oversee an upturn in fortunes.

Arsenal were robbed today and Pochotino has completely lost the plot.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang saw a last-minute penalty saved by Hugo Lloris to cost Arsenal victory and ensure Tottenham retained a crucial advantage over their arch-rivals in the battle for a top-four place after a dramatic north London derby at Wembley.

Harry Kane's contested penalty put Spurs level with 16 minutes left after Aaron Ramsey's coolly taken 16th-minute goal threatened to inflict a third successive league defeat on boss Mauricio Pochettino for the first time in his reign.

Arsenal were then handed a golden opportunity to close to within one point of Spurs after Davinson Sanchez fouled Aubameyang, but the striker's tame penalty was easily saved low to his right by the diving Lloris.

And to add to the late chaos, Arsenal's Lucas Torreira was sent off for a reckless challenge on Danny Rose in the closing seconds.

After Ramsey's strike, keeper Bernd Leno kept Arsenal on level terms with a miraculous double save from Christian Eriksen and Moussa Sissoko but the Gunners paid a heavy price for a glaring second-half miss from striker Alexandre Lacazette before Aubamayeng's wayward spot-kick.

Lacazette failed to hit the target from eight yards and Spurs took advantage, Kane scoring from the spot to equalise after referee Anthony Taylor adjudged he was fouled by Shkodran Mustafi.

Arsenal were also angry as they believed offside should have been given in the build-up but Kane stayed calm amid the chaos to send Leno the wrong way from the spot for his ninth goal in this fixture and keep Spurs four points ahead of Unai Emery's side.

The Gunners, however, have only themselves to blame after wasting that late chance to seal a league double over Spurs.

Has to be one of the worst analysis i’ve ever read....

There was no contention.

Kane was offside
Sanchez kicked:stamped on Koscienly whilst he was down
Vertongin was encroaching during the penalty and went to to block and prevent clear goal.
If Torriera’s was a sending off then Rose should have been sent off 20 minutes earlier.

Day light robbery plus Pochetino’s interview at the end was a disgrace.

Not good enough again from Liverpool in what I saw as a must win match. Salah was the main culprit again with poor finishing when he was clear through on goal. The goal keeper's know that he will try to curl it past their right hand side so prepare themselves accordingly his finishing is that predictable now. Don't know if Shaqiri was injured that Klopp chose to start with Origi. With City now having gotten their noses in front I am fearing the worst here for sure, just hope we keep pace until they go to Man United who themselves are chasing a top four finish. The next round of matches should be regular home wins for the top two sides.

Exactly a month since I wrote it and as expected, it's over at first weekend of March. My only fear is that now we are likely to end as 2nd with probably 10-12 points buffer from 5th spot ....... that means Yanks can sell two of VVD, Mo or Mane and still can finish at 4th next year:(

That was a close call versus Burnley. Their opener was clearly a foul on our keeper although Alisson doesn't exactly fill me with confidence either. I always feel their are a few mistakes in him as well much like our previous keepers. Despite a poor start I was confident we'd win this one, the crowd always seems disinterested and still asleep in Sunday early kick offs. Once we equalised it was just a matter of time before we took the lead. With City well ahead in terms of goal difference I was hoping we'd be able to close that today which didn't happen. Both Liverpool and City have Fulham next in the league, for us the focus now shifts to the important Champions League visit to Bayern Munich. It was good to see Adam Lallana put in a good shift then Ox is also close to a return as wel.

https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/47515481

A fan ran on to the pitch and shoved Manchester United defender Chris Smalling during his side's away match against Arsenal at Emirates Stadium.

The incident happened shortly after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had converted a 69th-minute penalty to give the Gunners a 2-0 lead against United.

After pushing Smalling, the man ran with his arms aloft towards the Gunners players celebrating their goal.

Smalling was not hurt and Arsenal stewards took the man off the pitch.

It came only hours after Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish was punched in the face by a spectator during Villa's 1-0 derby win over Birmingham City at St Andrew's.

That was a close one against Fulham. A crucial misunderstanding between Dijk and Alisson lead to their equaliser. I always sense that Alisson is gonna make a big mistake every time the ball goes to him. It was a slow paced match with Liverpool appearing of colour most likely after their visit to Germany. The pressure is now back on Man City when they visit Fulham in a few weeks. Salah has to improve if we're to win the league. Just hope our team returns fully fit after the international break and Man City's boys all get injured:maqsood

https://www.itv.com/news/update/2019-03-19/everton-boss-silva-accepts-improper-conduct-charge/

Everton manager Marco Silva has been fined £12,000 after accepting an improper conduct charge for his behaviour after the defeat to Newcastle earlier this month.

The Portuguese was furious the hosts' winning goal in their 3-2 victory was allowed to stand as Salomon Rondon was in an offside position in the build-up.

Silva confronted referee Lee Mason on the pitch at the final whistle, which led to his Football Association charge and subsequent fine.
