Ex-Man Utd sporting director Ashworth in Warwickshire role

Former Manchester United sporting director Dan Ashworth is working with Warwickshire County Cricket Club, advising on performance strategy.

However, sources have told BBC Sport this is a continuation of a voluntary role he took up with the club in 2021, and that it remains unpaid.

Ashworth left United in December just five months after joining from Newcastle United. The club revealed last week the episode had cost £4.1m.

The 53-year-old has worked in cricket before, as part of an England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) high performance review in 2022.

On Monday United announced the club will make up to 200 jobs redundant to "return the club to profitability". That followed around 250 members of staff being made redundant last year.

Last week the club revealed a loss of £27.7m in their second quarter financial results and the Red Devils have lost more than £300m over the past three years.

Warwickshire finished seventh out of 10 in the County Championship last season, winning just once in 14 games, to stay up with 25 points to spare.

They lost in the T20 Blast quarter-finals for the fifth straight year - and also in the semi-finals of the One Day Cup.

Ruben Amorim claims Manchester United players to blame for latest job losses

Ruben Amorim said Manchester United’s players must take the blame for Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s decision to axe a further 200 jobs because their failings on the pitch have created the crisis at Old Trafford.

United, who sacked 250 people last year, announced a further redundancy programme on Monday as they seek to cut costs after making losses of £373m over the last five years.

And head coach Amorim, whose side are only 15th in the Premier League, believes the team is the “engine” of the club as he said they need to work out how they got into such a dire situation.

United have underachieved on the pitch in recent seasons, only coming eighth in the league under Erik ten Hag last season, and are at risk of not qualifying for Europe from the current campaign.

And Amorim said: “We as a club have to understand what we did wrong to get to this situation so we need to think in solutions at this moment.

“We have to address all the problems in the club but one important piece of this moment is to understand how we got to this situation and it has a lot to do with the lack of success of the football team because we are the engine of any football club.”

Amorim, who has only taken 15 points from his 15 league games in charge, admitted it is difficult for players and staff who see their colleagues at risk of unemployment as he urged his players to concentrate on get results.

He added: “It is always hard for everybody. They see the friends and the teammates losing their jobs but we have to focus on what I can do to help the club in the moment. I just want to help the club in my department which is to improve the team and improve the players to have success.

“We know this year was really hard for everybody. We did as a club a lot of changes and then when you are doing the changes if you have a football team who are playing well and are winning games, it is easier for the fans and everyone to feel that changes [are working]. But in this moment we are in a difficult period inside of the club and inside of the pitch so we have to fight against this feeling and we have do our job and we try our best to help the team to perform better.”

Onana v De Gea verdict after Man Utd keeper's latest error

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana is in the spotlight again after his error led to Ipswich Town taking an early lead in their Premier League game on Wednesday evening.

United rallied and eventually won the game 3-2 despite being down to 10 men, but the mistake has reignited the debate about the Cameroon international.

The 28-year-old endured a tough start to life at Old Trafford but appeared to have turned a corner earlier this season when he had the most clean sheets in England's top flight with six.

However, four minutes in to the game against the Tractor Boys, he illustrated why United fans and pundits have persistent doubts about him.

He dashed to the edge of his penalty area as Patrick Dorgu ran towards him and, as the left wing-back nudged the ball towards where he expected Onana to be, it gifted Jaden Philogene with a tap-in.

The former Aston Villa winger later scored his second of the night from a deep cross that deceived Onana because of Liam Delap's run across him.

Speaking on TNT Sports, former Blackburn and Wales midfielder Robbie Savage said: "I've got no idea why Onana is running out to that position [for the first goal].

"Dorgu has got it under control, no problem at all. He shouldn't come there.

"You should be talking, lay it back to him on his right foot and then he can clear it. I don't know why he's come."

Former United defender Rio Ferdinand added: "It was a terrible start. Onana doesn't need to come. The full-back is in complete control and he can just hold his ground and let him play it back to him."

On BBC Radio 5 Live, former Celtic boss Neil Lennon added: "I don't know where Andre Onana is going. It is a shambles."

'My opinion is more important': Man Utd's Amorim backs Fernandes after Keane criticism

Bruno Fernandes is a key player for Manchester United, manager Ruben Amorim stressed on Friday as he defended the Portugal international following criticism from the Premier League club's former captain Roy Keane.

Fernandes, who was named man of the match for his performance in a 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town on Wednesday, has often been criticised for his on-field demeanour and has admitted in the past that his gesticulating and complaining can rile up both teammates and opponents.

In an appearance on the Stick to Football podcast alongside former Arsenal player Ian Wright, Keane criticised Fernandes' work rate, adding: "Talent is not enough! You keep going back to talent - Bruno's a talented player, but it's not enough."

Amorim said he did not agree with Keane's remarks on Fernandes.

"I heard about that. I have a different opinion. Bruno is really important for us and the club. He is playing well in a difficult context," the Portuguese manager told reporters ahead of an FA Cup meeting with Fulham on Sunday.

"He wants always the responsibility. I know sometimes as a captain he does things with his arms but most of all it is a lot of frustration for this year and the last year. He wants to win and sometimes it is hard to deal with that frustration.

"Everyone has an opinion. Roy Keane has big standards from his time at the club and it is normal to have an opinion. I have an opposite opinion and I think my opinion is more important than Roy Keane's because I am the coach."

Asked if players needed to be able to handle criticism better in the age of social media, Amorim said: "I think it is really hard for them.

"You can call it soft but they have access to criticism that is hard to deal with. They need help to deal with that. It's modern football and they have to be prepared for that."

Amorim also said he had spoken with Argentine forward Alejandro Garnacho, who was substituted following Patrick Dorgu's red card in the win over Ipswich and headed straight down the tunnel rather than joining his teammates on the bench.

"He came to me, to my office," he added.

"I did some investigation. He (Garnacho) went to dressing room, watched the game, then went home. It is not an issue but I told him that at Manchester United everything is an issue. At this club, perception is important.

"He will pay for dinner for all the team. That is it."

Man Utd on right path on and off pitch - Amorim

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is convinced the club are on a clear path to a better future, on and off the pitch.

It has been another testing week at Old Trafford. After escaping with a draw despite a woeful first 70 minutes at Everton last Saturday, 48 hours later chief executive Omar Berrada was telling staff up to 200 jobs could go in a second round of redundancies.

It took a backs-to-the-wall second-half display against relegation-threatened Ipswich on Wednesday to claim a vital Premier League win after more defensive mistakes and Patrick Dorgu's red card threatened a sixth home defeat of Amorim's short reign.

The Portuguese says life is "hard" just now - but remains convinced better times lie ahead.

"I see a clear path, and I see that from the board also," he said in the build-up to Sunday's home FA Cup fifth-round tie against Fulham. "They are also doing difficult changes.

"They are not popular but they are doing it because they have a vision. In the future we need to show some results. You can do a lot of changes but if you don't have results, people don't feel confident and happy.

"The good thing is we have a clear path. Now [it] is hard but we are doing things to achieve success in the future."

United's inconsistency puts even more focus on the two cup competitions they remain in - they face Real Sociedad in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 tie on Thursday - as it appears increasingly likely winning one of them is the only way they will qualify for European football next season.

The issues he is facing are so extensive, Amorim could be forgiven for wishing he had stuck to his initial demand not to leave Sporting until the end of the season.

However, he does think dealing with so many problems has made him a more rounded coach.

"Better [coach] is hard to say, because I am not winning games," he said. "But in three months here, I live certain things that I think make me a more complete manager.

"Sometimes you need to lose and be in a poor situation to grow. I am not going to die if I lose three games in a row. I learned that here. I can cope and maintain my energy. I am learning a lot about myself and the players - but I prefer to win games."

'Some Man Utd players not good enough & overpaid'

Some Manchester United players are "not good enough" and some are "overpaid", the club's co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe says.

Midfielder Casemiro, striker Rasmus Hojlund, goalkeeper Andre Onana, and wingers Antony and Jadon Sancho - who are on loan at other clubs - were namechecked by the billionaire in an interview with BBC Sport as players his regime had "inherited".

Ratcliffe, a lifelong Manchester United fan, is the chairman of petrochemicals company Ineos, which has a strong sport investment arm.

The 72-year-old last year spent £1.3bn for a 28.94% stake in the club in a deal which saw Ineos take control of football operations.

In a wide-ranging interview, Ratcliffe addressed the side's recent struggles on the pitch - they are 14th in the Premier League table - and repeated a pledge to deliver silverware by 2028.

And talking just a day after fans protested against United's ownership, he also spoke of the club's financial difficulties, saying it was set to run out of money by the end of the year without taking actions he admitted were "unpopular".

'Underperforming' Man Utd can 'change Ratcliffe's mind'

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim says it is up to him and his players to "change" Sir Jim Ratcliffe's opinion on the team.

Ratcliffe, 72, told BBC Sport this week that some players in United's squad were "not good enough" and "overpaid", though he did not specify which players.

Ratcliffe had namechecked Andre Onana, Rasmus Hojlund, Casemiro, Antony and Jadon Sancho as transfer deals that Ineos had "inherited" at the club and are yet to pay off.

Asked about Ratcliffe's comments, Amorim said: "I think if we are being honest in this moment, everybody - me, the players - are underperforming this season.

"I include myself in the underperforming.

"You are talking about players like Casemiro that won everything and we know these players can play so much better.

"He (Ratcliffe) was honest in that. The focus is to change his mind and everybody's."

Amorim, who Ratcliffe described as an "outstanding young manager", says he has a good relationship the United board.

"I think we are really blunt and honest with each other, we are quite similar in that," said Amorim, ahead of his side's Europa League match against Real Sociedad.

"I always felt the support of the board, especially Sir Jim."

'I turned down offer to leave Man Utd in summer'

Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes says he could have left the club last summer.

The 30-year-old was United's hero on Thursday night, scoring a hat-trick as they beat Real Sociedad to move into a Europa League quarter-final with Lyon.

He was also singled out for praise by co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe in an interview with BBC Sport on Monday.

But Fernandes said there had been an offer to sign him in the summer and he'd held talks with the club about his future.

"I sat with the club because I had an offer to leave," he said. "We talked about the possibility of me leaving the club or staying.

"They said what they wanted from me. I just asked if they still see me as part of the future of the club or not. I spoke at the time with (Erik) Ten Hag also.

"He was very clear with me, the club was very clear with me, that they thought I would be a big part of this rebuild. I thought that we could be successful."

The Portugal international now has 15 goals this season. None of his team-mates have got into double figures.

In a campaign that has been bad enough for United, who are 14th in the Premier League and on the brink of their worst domestic campaign since the 1973-74 relegation season, it is not hard to imagine the strife they would have been in had talks with Fernandes in the summer taken a different turn amid interest from Bayern Munich among others.

After Ten Hag was sacked in October, Fernandes' fellow countryman Ruben Amorim came in as replacement - but a bleak situation has got no better.

Last month legendary former captain Roy Keane blasted Fernandes, saying "talent is not enough" and that he was not "a fighter".

Even Amorim, in the wake of Fernandes' Europa League exploits said his captain needs to "trust" his team-mates more.

"Roy Keane was an amazing captain for the club, one of the best as everyone says," said Fernandes.

"I didn't have the chance to see much from him, only the last few years, but he was a great player that won everything for the club. He's massively respected from everyone and has all my respect.

"He has to give his opinion in a programme and this is what he thinks about me.

"I don't want to copy anyone. I try to be the best captain that I can for my team-mates and help everyone in the best way I know."

'We can't relax at this club'

The Europa League remains a route back into the Champions League for United despite their poor season.

Fernandes, who is under contract until 2027, says he wants to stay at Old Trafford for as long as they are competing for trophies.

He said: "We can't relax at this club. We need to prove ourselves every day in training and every day that we have a game.

"I'm in the same boat as my team-mates. It doesn't matter how much you do, how much you score, how much you assist... It's about the team.

"I'm very happy at the club. Obviously, I want to win trophies. I want to be in the biggest competitions, I want to fight for the big trophies. That's what I said to the club. That's what the club said to me that they want to do."

Ratcliffe said this week some players he has inherited are "not good enough" and "overpaid".

Midfielder Casemiro, striker Rasmus Hojlund, goalkeeper Andre Onana, and wingers Antony and Jadon Sancho - who are on loan at other clubs - were namechecked by the billionaire in an interview with BBC Sport.

Fernandes said: "I don't think any player likes to hear criticism or things that are talked about to you, that you're not good enough or you're overpaid or whatever.

"But everyone has their own contract. The club agrees to the contracts and it's about proving that you can be important for the club."

Man Utd fans 'disappointed' by season ticket price increase

Manchester United season ticket prices will increase by about 5% for the third successive year as the club aims to become financially sustainable.

The Manchester United Supporters Trust (MUST) says the increase is "less than many feared", and there has been a price freeze for under-16s.

But MUST says United fans have "expressed their disappointment" that the club has "ignored" the call for a widespread price freeze.

Since becoming the club's co-owner last year, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his Ineos group have tried improve the club's finances but several changes have been unpopular, resulting in fan protests, in particular at last week's home game with Arsenal.

Some of the latest changes for the 2025-26 season include the introduction of a game categorisation model for non-season ticket holders, where premium games cost more.

United are also increasing the minimum usage requirement for season ticket holders from 15 to 16 of their 19 Premier League home games.

United's chief executive Omar Berrada says the club "worked hard to come up with a pricing package that is fair and reasonable" and that the new changes are being made "to offset continued rises in operating costs".

However, MUST says that "we fail to see any justification for the increase" and that the new categorisation model is "a source of major concern".

A MUST statement read: "For several months we have argued long and hard that the club need to look at the big picture and freeze ticket prices for next season.

"Other clubs have done that already and at United it would have sent a powerful message about the need for everyone to pull together to get the club out of the very difficult position it finds itself in."

Berrada said: "We understand that any price rise is unwelcome, especially during a period of under-performance on the pitch, and we listened carefully to the strong arguments put forward by the FAB (Fan Advisory Board) in favour of a freeze.

"However, the club has decided it would not be right to keep prices unchanged while costs rise and the club continues to face financial issues.

"We have kept the increase to the lowest possible level and protected our youngest season ticket holders from any rises, while ensuring the club remains financially strong enough to invest in improving the team."

Onana dropped from Man Utd squad to face Newcastle

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has been left out of Sunday's Premier League game at Newcastle.

Onana was at fault for both Lyon goals in his side's 2-2 draw in the Europa League on Thursday - a day after he had been called "one of the worst goalkeepers" in United's history by former Red Devils player Nemanja Matic.

Sources confirmed Onana has been omitted from Ruben Amorim's squad for the game at St James' Park to allow the Cameroon international to "rest and disconnect".

It is expected he will be in contention to face Lyon in the return leg of the quarter-final tie at Old Trafford on Thursday and has been assured the change is not regarded as permanent.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe will miss Sunday's match after he was admitted to hospital having "felt unwell for a number of days", the club has said.

Turkey's Altay Bayindir is expected to deputise for Onana at Newcastle in what would be only his sixth appearance of the season and his first Premier League game.

He has not featured since January, having played only in cup games this season.

Since the start of last season Onana has made eight errors leading to goals in all competitions, the most of any keeper playing for a Premier League club.

Amorim defended the 29-year-old after the performance against Lyon, saying he had made more mistakes this season than Onana.

Onana has struggled to live up to his £47m transfer fee since his arrival from Inter Milan in 2023 but has played all 69 Premier League games since he joined the club.

Former United manager Erik ten Hag ditched popular first-choice David de Gea, believing Onana was better with the ball at his feet.

However, Onana has made a series of mistakes, with the first goal in Lyon, when he dived to push a routine shot away from goal but inexplicably missed it, a prime example.

Aside from Onana's on-field issues, he has also had to deal with off-field problems.

His wife Melanie Kamayou was robbed as she left a restaurant in Cheshire last month.

Onana dropped from Man Utd squad to face Newcastle

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has been left out of Sunday's Premier League game at Newcastle.

Amorim defended the 29-year-old after the performance against Lyon, saying he had made more mistakes this season than Onana.

Bayindir's failed Man Utd audition offers Onana dilemma

It was the last thing Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim needed.

After taking goalkeeper Andre Onana out of the firing line for Sunday's trip to Newcastle, the Portuguese watched forlorn as replacement Altay Bayindir conceded four goals in a chastening defeat at St James' Park.

To makes matters worse, the Turkey international was to blame for Newcastle's fourth after a poor pass.

"We did a lot of mistakes that made it harder to win a game - that's all," said Amorim. "It's a little bit of everything, it's hard to point to one thing."

With a crucial Europa League quarter-final second leg to follow against Lyon on Thursday, United are keen to put defeat in the north-east quickly behind them.

But Amorim now faces a potentially season-defining decision of whether to recall Onana or stick with Bayindir.

Amorim's 'big call'
Whether Onana was rested or simply dropped for the visit to Newcastle, the fact he wasn't even named on the bench was a brave decision from the United boss.

Speaking before kick-off, former Manchester United captain Roy Keane said Amorim's patience with the Cameroon international had worn out.

"I think he (Onana) has done OK in the Premier League because United defensively actually haven't been too bad," Keane told Sky Sports.

"The keeper has made some big mistakes and he's been punished for it, so it's a big call for the manager."

Onana came under fire again following two costly errors in the 2-2 first-leg draw in Lyon last Thursday.

Since the start of last season, the 29-year-old has made eight errors leading to goals in all competitions, the most of any keeper playing for a Premier League club.

"The situation has been coming," former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson told 5 Live.

"A lot of Manchester United fans have been getting frustrated with him and there is a time where you do need to take the goalkeeper out of the firing line because the pressure does become too much.

"When you're in front of the opposition fans, you're reminded of your poor form every time you touch the ball and sometimes you do need a rest.

"It's good man-management to put your arm round him and say, 'look you're still my number one goalkeeper, but at the moment you're not playing to the levels I want you to play at - I'm going to take you out, whether it's one, two or three games'."

Amorim 'inspired' by 1999 for United comeback

There are few more famous comeback wins in Manchester United's history than their 1999 Champions League triumph.

That night at the Nou Camp, Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjær struck in injury time to overturn Bayern Munich's early 1-0 lead and win European club football's most coveted prize.

While Thursday's night's dramatic and unexpected comeback victory against Lyon in the Europa League quarter-finals is not of the same magnitude as that famous night 26 years ago, it motivated Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim to experience such moments himself.

"I was watching again the 1999 documentary to have some inspiration for these moments," Amorim revealed to TNT Sports after the 5-4 win against 10-man Lyon, during which United scored three goals in the final six minutes of extra time to seal a 7-6 aggregate win.

"It was a great night - 4-2 with one more player you think it's over, but here it is never over. I felt here everything is possible."

United are 14th in the Premier League but despite the disappointing season they are just three games away from a European trophy and with it direct access to the Champions League next season.

'The sound of the stadium the best ever'

It had looked like United would make comfortable progress after goals from Manuel Ugarte and Diogo Dalot in a commanding first-half display had them in control.

But they proceeded to throw away the two-goal advantage as Corentin Tolisso and Nicolas Tagliafico struck to level the tie and take the game to extra time.

Even though Lyon had Tolisso sent off in the final minute of normal time, Rayan Cherki put the French side ahead before Alexandre Lacazette's penalty looked to have sent them through, prompting some United fans to leave and beat the traffic.

But then came the incredible fightback as Bruno Fernandes' penalty and Kobbie Mainoo's cool finish levelled matters, before Old Trafford erupted when Harry Maguire headed in the winner with seconds remaining.

"The sounds of the stadium was the best ever," Amorim added.

"Some people collect shirts, scarves, but I want to keep that sound, it's the best sound in the world.

"I feel for the people who had to leave at 4-2 because of the traffic, they will be gutted.

"We know we are underperforming and deserve all the critics, but we have time to make something special of this season."

Maguire agreed with his manager that the Old Trafford atmosphere was something that helped the players stage one of the most memorable comebacks.

"To go down 4-2 in extra time to 10 men is not good enough, we opened ourselves too much," he said.

"But we dug in and showed great spirit, that's what this stadium does."

Man U v Bilbao EL SF next

United have lost a Semi in EL against Villareal while they overcame Celta during their last triumph in EL.
Also Utd were knocked out in EL by Bilbao during Fergie Era.
Another key point is UTD's frailties against Spanish clubs in Europe , Barca Real have had the upper hand against them and even Deportivo Sevilla & Sociedad have kocked them out

Bilbao will be a stern test for Utd. They have quality through out the side to punish Utd.

Unless we bring our "A" Game, i can't see Utd progressing beyond the semis

Nah I’m pretty sure united will win europa league. I don’t think the other teams are stronger than united really. And Tottenham will bottle it as they’ll be nervous about winning their first trophy. Not that Tottenham are really stronger than united either.

Think they need to change europa league qualification. I’d keep top four for champions league. But europa league, would benefit from more English and Spanish teams in it. The drop off is too much in the other leagues. I’d go so far and say I think places 5-8 in premier league should be given Europa league qualification.

Man united just have a knack of winning trophies because they’re used to winning. Ten hag did the same even though he didn’t improve the side at all. In some ways sacking Amorim after winning Europa will be very difficult, on the other hand CL qualification will allow Amorim to buy some better players to build his squad that’s more suited to his style of play.

I think Amorim could do well with his own players. But it’s a risk I don’t know why united took. No evidence his style even works in premier league. Then with the previous manager spending so much and a very expensive average squad, it’s going to be tough to even recruit players. And united can’t afford to waste money again in the same way they did ten hag. I would have got in a proven manager, preferably in premier league and then allowed him to stabilise the ship, get rid of the deadwood and get the squad to a state where you could get another manager to come in if needed. Amorims come in to a squad where he’s ill fitted, and he’s not the type of manager with the experience to get the best of a bad squad.

I think Man United made a mistake of not getting Pochettino back then. Premier league proven with multiple clubs. But I think there has been an allure of choosing the riskier, shinier options in young unproven managers in weaker foreign leagues like ten hag and now Amorim. I think the ordeal of mourinho has put united off proven, experienced managers. Yet I think he failed mainly as he wasn’t the right fit for the club as he is too defensive when united have traditionally been aggressive, and probably past his peak. And even then Mourinho has been the most successful man united manager since Ferguson.

Amorim is a terrible manager. The worst manager in our history. If Man United don’t win the Europa League which I don’t think we will, Amorim needs to be sacked.
Way too early for that kind of talk.
Let's not forget his start point is lower than all the other managers you know of.
There are too many mitigating circumstances.
From what ten hag had available, he has lost Sancho Anthony Rashford Amad Martinez Malacia and has gained Dorgu.
That is 5 players down for most of the season. We just DO NOT have the physicality in the squad remaining to play 2 times a week.
He came in and said he will not change his methods and he wanted to come in the summer Ineos knew this yet he is 5 players down. (The Rashford thing had to happen today down a marker to the squad) So it's over to Ineos in the summer.

We had people complaining midweek that he took of Garnacho and Hojlund when we know full well that Garnacho is pathetic when he gets tired, and Hojlund cant maintain the physicality for 90 minutes either.
We just do not have the squad for 2 game a week at the required intensity and we are relying on Casemiro and Eriksen and Maguire Ugarte none of who can do 2 games a week at the level.
Dalot and Bruno were basically dead at the end because of the amount they have to play, but there are 0 rotation options for those two.
You cant be Amorim out at this stage with the above issues.

In the summer we need Rashford Sancho Anthony Eriksen Lindelof Casemiro and maybe Garnacho out, to be replaced with players of the right physicality to move forward. There have been enough performances this season where I see that he can do something when he gets 5 or 6 players in that suit what he wants.
Those have come when we have had a week between games , otherwise it has been sporadic and in parts of games.
If we get a midfielder, and upgrade on Garnacho and a proper striker we would be automatically top 8. A RWB and a GK with an injury free season , pre season training and the squad will look good.
It may be best to have a smaller squad and no Europe next season to let the Amorim train the players also.
He gets judged after that.

^otherwise we are at risk of repeating the vicious cycle.
I'm past the stage of blaming the players, Ineos need to get the recruitment right.

If they get rid of Casemiro Garnacho Sancho Anthony Rashford and Onana to Saudi we can raise £200m pounds.
Even with no Europe, you can sell a project to the likes of Cunha Frimpong Edersen, and if you get the signings right, with one game a week you can have a serious go at top 5 given most of the other teams will be having to play UCL ( maybe 6 teams)
We saw how Newcastle coped last season with that

The issue with players you mentioned we need to get rid of is hugh. The WAGES. No club in their right mind will pay these extortionate wages.

As things stand, Chelsea are looking to trigger the 5 million clause so Sancho can return back to UTD

There's no concrete hint Emery wants Rashford beyond the summer.

Casimero @34 is on 350k a week unless the Saudis come for him no one will touch him.

Its imperative, moving forward the Recruitment has to be spot on, and the club has to have a viable wage structure!
We are still paying players reminiscent to the Glory days of the Past!

Amorin plays 5 at the back. In the history of the PL only a few teams have ever won the championship. United are getting worse and if next season starts off badly, panic stations at OT.

He needs to ship a few out to bring his own Personnel in to fit his system. The issue with that is, alot of the UTD'S underperforming misfits are on extortionate wages. Hence, won't be easy to shift. And with the new FFP, it's going to be a complex situation for Utd over the summer.

If we can't ship them out, the fans need to calm down and realise this will take a long time to fix.

Every time they ship out, they get worse

Man U have a lot of problems but if they manage to win the Europa it would solve a few of them as CL qualification is massive

As for Amorim, I'm on the fence with him, the job he did at Sporting was impressive but he's looked massively out of his depth at Man U

I do think he can be a success at Man U but it won't be with the current squad, he plays a specific style and needs certain players to help with that

The criticism I'd have for him (and other managers that are very rigid about playing their way, see Ange as another example, Russell Martin too) is that if the current players aren't fit for his formation/style of play then adapt, do something different which will allow you to put in better performances and pick up positive results

Man U are lucky the bottom 3 are so bad otherwise they would be in a serious relegation battle. 15 of the points Man U got were from the bottom 3

Yes. But it's imperative the recruitment is spot on. It's been our downfall for the best part of the last decade
They have to be patient. They have spent big and that's backfired. They need a change of coach, the 5 at the back is reactive and doesn't work. They also don't have the MF of energy and ball players to pull off the system.

We can't keep on changing coaches. Omirin needs time. Otherwise, it's just repeat and rinse mentality.

If you have only one style and cannot adapt or be flexible especially when on a losing run then it is a major red flag for a manager.

I'm also not convinced on how helpful CL football will be at this stage. Of course nobody will say no to winning Europa and qualifying for the CL but they need a major overhaul to be able to compete in the league next season, additional pressure if champions league will just add more of a burden. It won't really be too attractive to prospective players either because yes it's champions league football but the team is nowhere and basically qualifying through a backdoor. If they do qualify for the CL I bet they will be the lowest placed side in their domestic league to ever make it.

So will I. Its a long term project with Omirin. One in where he should be backed all the way. Even if it means afew more years of struggle
The concept of long term project is a load of nonsense that has no place in modern football. Modern football is about short term success. The most successful club in modern football history is Real Madrid and they sack managers for fun.

And even if you want to take a long term approach, the manager still has to show something in the short term to prove that he deserves a long run. Amorim in his 5 months so far has shown nothing but awful tactics, boring football and unforgivable results. He doesn’t deserve a long run as a manger.

People say that Amorim needs his own players before we can judge him. What is this nonsense? What happened to managers getting judged on getting the best out of players that they have at his disposal? David Moyes came in halfway through the season and he got Everton well clear of the relegation zone. Does he have his own players? No, he has Sean Dych’s players and he is getting the best of them. But Amorim is special who needs his own players before we can judge him.

Amorim has failed to get the best out of any of the players. Not a single player has improved under him. It seems like there isn’t a single player in the team who is comfortable playing Amorim’s system, which shows that Amorim’s system and tactics are a problem. What are we going to do? Sign an entirely new team of 24-25 players so Amorim can play his system? It’s best for Man United to not waste another season and sack this fraud in the summer.

Utd have chopped and changed Managers for fun in the last Decade yet nothing changes. The underlying problem is there for everyone to see. The RECRUITMENT. The players signed under Ten hags Tenure are some of the worse players I've seen in the Premier League era. Its not a Question of getting the best of them. The simple facts are we are staring mediocrity. If a Manager is working with players who have no capacity for improvement then I'm certain, we could have Pep Guardiola in charge or Klopp, these players are not up to it. Their basically Rabits in headlights every time the going gets tough.

Manchester United interested in Wolves' Cunha

Manchester United are interested in signing Wolves forward Matheus Cunha this summer.

The Brazilian, who has a £62.5m release clause in his Wolves contract, is expected to leave Molineux at the end of the season.

Multiple club sources have told BBC Sport the 25-year-old is one of a number of attacking options on United's shortlist, with Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, 22, also of interest.

Improving United's scoring record is a priority for head coach Ruben Amorim. Only Southampton, Leicester City, Ipswich, Everton and West Ham have scored fewer than the 38 goals United have managed in 33 Premier League matches this season.

Cunha is viewed as an ideal addition to play in one of the two attacking midfield positions in Amorim's preferred 3-4-2-1 formation.

Cunha - Wolves' top scorer this season with 16 goals to his name in all competitions - plays in a similar system under current boss Vitor Pereira.

United are set to face competition from a number of Premier League clubs for Cunha, with Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle all known to be looking to sign a forward this summer.

Cunha has scored 32 times in 87 appearances for Wolves but his disciplinary record may be of some concern to suitors.

The former Atletico Madrid striker has been sent off twice this season, missing six games in total through suspension.

The forward said in an interview with the Observer in March that he has told Wolves he needs to "take the next step" and fight for titles.

United's planning for next season is hindered by uncertainty over their financial situation.

At a conservative estimate, the club stand to gain around £100m in additional funds if they win this season's Europa League and qualify for the Champions League.

But, with each league position worth £3m in the Premier League, United stand to lose around £24m should they finish in their current position of 14th compared to an eighth-placed finish last season.

Following Sunday's home defeat by Wolves, Amorim said the club have a "plan" to improve the squad but that the situation could not be addressed until the summer.
