Most of the Bangladeshi fans seem to have a great respect for this guy. Sometimes I wonder why? Is he playing for Bangladesh cricket team due to his bowling performance and tactical superiority or is he simply riding on his past glory?

Even many neutral fans consider Mashrafe a great captain because of his aggressive field placement. How much of this is true. His captaincy looked pretty mediocre today.

What do u guys think about him both as a captain and as a bowler. Is he good enough to lead a national team?

I guess he did a great job for them but now he's fast becoming a burden on team BD. Time to retire maybe?

He is going through a poor form as a bowler, that is hampering his captaincy a bit too very recently in my opinion. He led well though both with ball and captaincy in recent win against NewZealand. He is still the best available captain to lead Bangladesh in ODI.He is a legend of Bangladesh cricket. He can demand much credit in making Bangladesh a very good ODI side, reaching to 6th rank.He is a fighter, he plays to win every match. He has got a huge respect in his team,in his board,in his countrymen, media everywhere, a legacy and position which every cricketer dreams of.He has always performed either with ball or bat for Bangladesh. He not merely played as a captain.A non performing captain can never boost a team despite whatever superlative captaincy quality he has.His ODI record as a bowler is more than decent, i will say better than many pacers around in many teams. If his lean patch with the ball continues,he himself will take decision to pull himself out.I had, have and will have respect for this man.

He's a decent team leader.

I think regarding his bowling he needs something in the pitch to assist him.

Still a decent cricketer, handy with the bat.

Every hero has a time to go. He might be the architect of BD's rise but now he has become a massive burden on them. He came into bat with BD requiring him to hit a few lusty blows or at the very least turn the strike over to the other guy who had been there for a fair bit. Murtaza shahab then proceeds to waste 8 balls for 1 run before getting out. Even in the bowling department he got smashed around like a school-boy.

Murtaza should aim to leave after this tournament and give the reigns to someone like a Tamim, Shakib or Mushfiqur.

He is on his last mile. The guy has suffered so many injuries that any one else probably would have retired few years back. He would have retired probably after 2015 WC, but he was made Captain (mostly due to failure of his predecessors) & team started to perform. The way team responded to his leadership, it would have a negative consequence if he was removed. On top of that, he actually was performing with ball (I think till last month he was the highest ranked Asian pacer, which indicates a steady performance for longer period). His on-field Captaincy is good, at least far better than the man he replaced.

I think, he'll retire after the CT & focus on his next career.

Possibly the most ordinary pacer in sub-continent right now. Would have been taken to the cleaners right at the beginning had Sharjeel been playing.

I think the injuries he had earlier in his career maybe affecting him now.

He has done a good job as a leader and as bowler he's done a good job as well. He should retire after the CT.

He is a trundler and a mediocre batsman.

He is lucky to be playing international cricket.

He is just lucky that Bangladesh produced lot of talented players under his captaincy.

But Bangladesh have also whitewashed newzealand in Odis with mushfiqur as a captain. Well, Mashrafe is perhaps a better leader than mushfiqur(who's pretty rubbish to be honest), but I believe sometimes Mashrafe gets too much credit for his captaincy.

Did he really play a strong role in Bangladesh's transformation in limited overs Cricket or was he just lucky to be at the right place at the right time?

Guys trust me in the last 2 years or so Mashrafe has had excellent statistics as a bowler bowling at 130.

However I agree that his bowling form in the last 2 months have dipped and his batting is not useful anymore because he can't even put bat on ball.

Great captain but who will replace Mashrafe? We don't have fast bowling allrounders. Never had them

In any other top team, a player of his current abilities will be nowhere close to be selected, leave alone being the captain of the side. The fact that Bangladesh still persists with him means that Bangladesh will continue to find themselves is situations like the one against Pakistan in their warm up match.

He's an unfit player who has gone through many injuries over the years. Yes, I admire him for his courage. But it's quite sad to see that he hasn't retired yet, especially when his presence in the team is actually hurting his team.

He's a terrible fielder too. It's understandable since he has to field with a knee brace on which affects his movement but he still fields in the cover and point region

Very average player, overrated captain. Don't understand how he gets all the hype.

It's because many Bangladeshi fans believe that he played a vital role in Bangladesh's transformation. That might be the only reason behind the hype.

Mashrafe is ranked among the top 15 ODI bowlers right now if I am not mistaken.

He was even in the top 10 for a brief while. So if someone performs so well in the past couple of years, also can motivate the side so well, why should he be dropped.

It was under Mashrafe that Bangladesh jumped 3 spots in the rankings.

And why do you care about warmups so much. We were bowling spinners in the death overs

Good player, injuries has ruined him though. CT should be his tournament since he'll be on the decline.

Lol, Mashrafe chickened out against India in the 2nd practice match. Good for him. Otherwise, he would've been thrashed into oblivion.

We have an official match day after tomorrow why risk him?

He already played the first match.

Mashrafe is ranked 14th in the ODI rankings which is higher than any current Pakistan bowler. And only behind Shakib among Bangladeshi bowlers
