Apparently there is some confusion whether he was stabbed inside his home as opposed to earlier reports of his vehicle coming under fire.

lots of rumours..allegedly revenge for abdul razik?
NDS afghans attacked
inside job as guards disspapeared for 15 mins.
peace process will now be affected.
unrelated to rizvi but now they will try to connect the two.

saving grace is IK had good relations with Sami and his party.
Could be straight pashtun revenge thing..

short term problems in the next weeks. expect more attacks on any demonstrations and rumours to spread

Pakistan's enemies will now use this opportunity.

Seems he was stabbed to death - which is different from above report

Influential religious scholar and former senator Maulana Samiul Haq has been assassinated at his residence in Rawalpindi, his son has confirmed.

Maulana Hamidul Haq said his father was stabbed to death while he was resting in his room.

"His driver Haqqani had gone out. On his return, he saw that Maulana Sami was lying in his bed in a pool of blood. He was no longer alive," Hamid said while talking to Geo News.

The news of his death comes at a sensitive time, with religio-political parties out on the streets protesting the Supreme Court's acquittal of Asia Bibi, a Christian woman, in a blasphemy case.

According to Hamid, Maulana Sami was unable to take part in the protest that was underway against Bibi's acquittal due to road blockades and had returned home.

"He was stabbed multiple times," he said. Maulana Sami's driver/gunman had left the house for approximately 15 minutes when he was stabbed.

Police have started an investigation into the killing.

Maulana Sami, said to be around 83 years old, was the head of the Darul Uloom Haqqania seminary in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Akora Khattak.

He was a member of the Senate of Pakistan from 1985 to 1991 and again from 1991 to 1997.

He had been aligned with the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf for the July 25, 2018 election.

Prime Minister Imran Khan's party had sought to work closely with him to implement various reforms and mainstream madrassah education.

Maulana Sami was an influential figure among members of the Taliban on both sides of the Afghan-Pakistan border.

Last month, a high-level delegation from Afghanistan had called on Sami, known as the "Father of the Taliban", at Darul Uloom Haqqania and urged him to play a role in resolving the Afghan issue.

The delegation had appealed to the JUI-S chief to play the role of a mediator between different groups of Taliban as they considered him [Maulana Sami] their elder. The delegation members assured him that they would accept his decision for reconciliation in Afghanistan.

Maulana Sami had told them that the Afghan issue was very complicated and its resolution was not an easy task for him. However, he had said he wished to see a logical end to the Afghan issue and an end to bloodshed in the country.

Profile: Maulana Sami
The Senate website describes him as: "A qualified religious scholar, an educationist, a research scholar and a lieutenant of his father, late Maulana Abdul Haq."

According to his Senate profile, Maulana Sami came from the spiritual family of Akora Khattak, where he was born in 1936.

A holder of Sanad-e-Fazilat-o-Faraghat and Sanad Daura Tafseer-e-Quran from Darul Uloom Haqqania, and Shaikh-ul-Hadith (honorary) from Darul Uloom Deoband, Maulana Sami imparted religious education at his alma mater to the students and held important positions in the academic and administrative staff of the seminary.

The TV analysts and experts have enough material to make it till new year!

Top this with rumours of a suspicious foreign chartered jet landing in Islamabad......voila!

Aparently he was unable to make it to a protest against the SC decision. Some fanatic mistook that for supporting the SC's decision when he was actually against it.

My word these Mullah's and fanatics have held the country hostage.

The Butler did it!

Else, often it turns to be a 'grieving' close family member.

For what it's worth, Pakistan has too many self styled religious scholars, sheikhs, maulvis and similar nutcases. The numbers need to be drastically reduced. Preferably to zero!

The usual suspects will be held responsible. There are also many in Pak who hated this man as well. His death is a loss for us no doubt about it but we are an incredibly resilient nation.

Good riddance. Hope he enjoys the surprise of hell fire that is awaiting him. And to think he probably thought he was going to eat more jalebis in jannat.

Why do you dislike him?

I don't condone violence against anyone however it's hard to feel sympathy for someone who injected the poison of violent extremism into the bloodstream of Pakistani society.

In the 1980s, people like Sami-ul-Haq were coopted by the state to produce the footsoldiers needed to defeat the Soviets in Afghanistan. Through his network of religious institutions Sami-ul-Haq radicalised many poor, young Pakistanis into fighting a war that was not theirs in Afghanistan.

Whilst the Soviets were defeated, the genie could not be put back in the bottle. From these madrassas and the educational changes Gen Zia promoted with the help of Sami-ul-Haq and his colleagues in Parliament, emerged a generation of Pakistanis, brainwashed into a narrow minded view of Islam, more intolerant and bigoted than the generation before.

The state foolishly believed it could control the "blowback" of having radicalised its OWN youth to push their foreign policy agenda. Instead emerged sectarian groups like SSP and LEJ who turned their guns on minorities. Then sprang the TTP, an offshoot of the Afghan Taliban that the establishment helped bring to power, and have killed thousands of civilians. We now see groups like TLY who see the state's cowardice in the face of the ultra-religious mob and are able to shut down entire cities.

Sami-ul-Haq wasn't responsible for all of that and to be fair, he was mediating peace talks in Afghanistan at the end of his life. If the rumour is true he was killed by someone more extreme than he was, then you can't help but conclude that you reap what you sow.

The personal secretary and guard of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam's slain leader Maulana Samiul Haq were on Saturday questioned for three hours in connection with his murder, DawnNewsTV reported citing police sources.

Maulana Sami, an influential religious scholar and former senator, was assassinated by unknown persons at his residence in Rawalpindi last night.

The aforementioned members of Maulana Sami's staff were interrogated by police today but both were later let go so that they could attend the funeral of their deceased employer.

The duo were released after Maulana Hamidul Haq — Maulana's Sami's son — asked the police to do so. However, the police said they could be taken into custody again for further questioning.

Meanwhile, a first information report (FIR) of Maulana Sami's assassination was registered at the Airport Police Station in Rawalpindi on his son's complaint.

The case was registered against unknown suspects.

According to the FIR, Maulana Hamid said his father's secretary, Ahmed Shah, had informed him over the phone that someone had stabbed his father.

The FIR stated that Maulana Sami was shifted to the Safari Hospital but could not be resuscitated.

Further details in the FIR reveal that Maulana Sami received a total of 12 wounds on his stomach, heart, forehead and ears.

The son said that he did not want to have a post-mortem examination conducted on the body of his father as it was "against Islamic law".

Not sure if this murder is connected with Asia Bibi - could be an Afghan hand in this due to his connections with Afghan Taliban

Afghan and the other usual hand. Pakistan has lost a great leverage in Afghan peace process talks.

Police arrest three suspects in JUI-S chief's assassination probe

RAWALPINDI.: Police have rounded up three suspects involved in the murder of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Sami (JUI-S) chief Maulana Samiul Haq. The suspects have been sifted to a safe cell under strict security and are being grilled.

Police sources told Daily Express that Police Civil Lines Police Station Inspector Aziz is investigating the suspects arrested two days back. Sources said the SSP operations has also visit the cell twice.

The suspects were taken into custody with the help of Sami’s mobile phone data and geofencing of the private housing society where Sami was stabbed to death on November 2. He was 80.

Three different teams were set up for the investigations of the murder. The teams are working under the supervision of SSP Operations and CPO Rawalpindi Abbas Ahsan.

Maulana Samiul Haq – life in focus

Sami’s son Hamidul Haq had told the media that his father was resting at his residence while his driver, who was also his security guard, was not present when the assailant scaled the wall to attack him with knife.

“His driver Haqqani had gone out. On his return, he found Maulana Sahib lying in a pool of blood in his bed,” he had told news channels on the day of the murder.

The assailant stabbed him several times in the chest and the head before fleeing the scene unidentified and unchallenged. The Maulana was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Hamidul Haq had revealed that his father, who was regarded as the spiritual father of Afghan Taliban including the most feared Haqqani Netwrok, was receiving threats from the Afghan government.

The former senator suffered from heart disease and was inactive for the last three months. He had to mediate between protesters and authorities in Islamabad on the day of his death.

Last month, a high-profile delegation from Afghanistan sought help of Maulana Samiul Haqto put an end to the 17-year-old deadly conflict in Afghanistan.

The cleric, however, had told the delegation that it was not easy for him to help resolve a complicated issue like the Afghan conflict, though he had said he wished to see an end to bloodshed in the country.

Maulana Sami’s son named JUI-S acting chief

Haq was the founder of his eponymous Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, and leader of the Difa-e-Pakistan Council. He had been twice elected to the upper house of parliament.

Maulana was born on December, 18, 1937 in Akora Khattak, an area in the Nowshehra district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. He received his religious education from Darul Uloom Haqqania, the seminary founded by his father.

The assassination comes at a time when politico-religious parties were staging countrywide protests against the acquittal of blasphemy accused Aasia Bibi by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

Haq’s assassination shocked the entire nation as political leaders and religious scholars strongly condemned the high-profile killing, demanding that the government bring the culprits to justice.
