Since Messi has shut the chapter on Ronaldo for good, it is time to compare to the only person that is comparable to him in this era - himself.

Messi is akin to Sehwag in his comfort zone he towers over most ATG's however as soon as he is taken out of it he is merely decent.

are you kidding me?

lol at sehwag comparison

what is messi's comfort zone? Everywhere?

His international career is a success on personal level. WC and Copa America finals and man of tournaments in these competitions

Messi needs that one international trophy to end the debate of GOAT. Without it, he's still it, but with it you won't be able to dispute it :messi

Ignore the haters.

Messi has been carrying this side for most of the season, the fact they're still in the la liga race and in the Copa Final speaks volumes about Messi.

The GOAT by some distance. They will talk about him for decades and decades.

In Guardiola's words, stop debating about him and simply "watch him" because you will never see anything like him ever again.

Yeah, last nights performance shut the debate down like it should been long ago. Now it is time to just appreciate that we're witnessing the GOAT and hope he wins the international title to seal it.

Pele and Maradona must be praying he doesn't, because all he needs is one to surpass them.

He is a phenomenon. The majority of ex-footballers, experts, pundits say he is the GOAT. To receive undisputed praise on that level - in the modern age where everything from a drop of water to Donald Trump is controversial - shows the greatness of the man.

The debate should've been put to debate after his performance vs Arsenal at the Nou Camp in 2010.

By this genius Messi worshiper logic because Umar Akmal has played a couple of special knocks here and there, is more talented and pleasing on the eye he is better then Younis Khan in Tests , now I've heard it all.

Scores for the first time in a Classico for 7 games and this is the response of his fans :))

47 goals this season.

That would be an amazing tally for someone who camps in the box and is served all match long.

But Messi scores that much while controlling the match and being the chief playmaker as well.

Two goals in Sunday's Clasico has the football world worshipping at the star's feet, and Tebas was one of the people to pay homage

La Liga president Javier Tebas has called Lionel Messi the best footballer of all time, while admitting that as a Real Madrid fan it was not easy for him to admit the Argentine's brilliance.

Messi was the name on everybody's lips on Sunday as his two goals led Barcelona to Clasico glory.

Barcelona's 3-2 victory keeps the Catalans in the chase for La Liga, although Madrid's game in hand means they remain favourites.

And after the game Tebas could not help but recognise La Pulga's supremacy in the Santiago Bernabeu.

"Messi's goal? As a Madrid fan you obviously feel hurt, mostly because of the time. But it is good for La Liga," the chief told COPE.

"On the basis of yesterday's game I would say Messi is the best player of all times. And I've seen him play better."

Tebas also played down the Twitter war between Gerard Pique and Sergio Ramos, with both players making controversial comments on refereeing in recent weeks.

"The Ramos-Pique spat is just one of those football things. There are a lot of pressures and tension, they feel their teams' colours... in the national team they forget about it," he said.

"On Twitter Pique is funnier, and he has more cheek. Sergio is more sensitive and passionate. I like both of them."

The Liga race continues midweek as Barcelona host Osasuna on Tuesday.

The Catalans have the chance to briefly go three points clear of Madrid with a win, as the Merengue kick off away to Deportivo shortly after full time at Camp Nou.

If the two teams finish level on points at the end of the season Barca will retain the title, by virtue of better head-to-head results.

Diego Armando Maradona says hi.

:)) let these kids remain narrow minded, they don't know who Maradona, Brazilian Ronaldo, Ronaldinho etc are. We grew up in an era where international football was the pinnacle and where real greatness was cemented, these babies advocate legendary status based on style and talent rather then actual performance; they believe Umar Akmal is a better test player then Younis Khan basically.

Brazillian Ronaldo would have been better than both Messi and Maradona if not for injuries, they destroyed his career.

If there was a life and death situation I'd even pick Benteke over Messi who is a choke artist

Who dominated the El Clasico to keep his out of form side alive? :messi

Forget it, there'st no point arguing, most already know Messi is superior and will forever think it.

You're fighting a losing battle and you know it :)))

What do you know about football, you started watching it a few years ago and switched allegiance from Real to Barcelona :))) you're out of your depth on every level and every sport you talk about that's something you know for a fact, you're the equivalent of them facebook comment section nut jobs

Chokesi can continue to look the part rather then actually have anything to show for his legendary skills when it counts :yk2

I realized I don't have to say anything.

It's you Ronaldo ******* who have to prove it. The popular opinion is Messi is superior, by a distance.

From pundits, fans and players. It's all one way traffic, every comparison ends the same way :messi

Go on Bear, convince me why Ronaldo deserves to be compared to GOAT.

Try come up with a solid argument, until then Ronaldo will forever be chasing shadows :messi

Still no Messi, despite all this 70% of the planet considers Messi better :))

Ronaldo scored a hattrick just now and it means jack :))) That's what happens when you're on another level to everyone else in the game :messi

Cool, your meltdown is amazing.

The fact I don't need to say anything because opinion is all in favor of Messi.

When Messi plays well, they call him the greatest ever.

When Ronaldo plays well, they say he's better than Messi (because he's the best today) :))

I'm content with Messi being the peoples champ, it's you and every other Ronaldo fangirl who needs to post about it to try convince yourself he's at Messi's level.

You can post on all you like, not going to change the fact the world see's Messi as the greatest ever :messi

That's something you should live down now, no number of Ballon d'or's, league titles or UCL is suddenly going to make a hungry trained athlete better than gods gift to football.

I don't have to say anything. You and every Ronaldo fans have it all to prove. The world already sees Messi as the best and greatest ever :)

I'm not going to bother because this debate is over, there isn't much of one either as 70% consider Messi better and the other 30% (Real Madrid and Utd fans) will swing once both have retired.

Nah, honestly usually I'm in on aruging about it. But there's nothing to debate here, that's why I laugh at it. Ronaldo is great no doubt, but I legitimately don't think he's a level or two below Messi, like every footballer on the planet. This is why a lot of players say Messi is like an alien and above everyone else on this planet. I don't think I'll ever see a better player than Messi in my lifetime, that's why I appreciate it. Ronaldo was simply unfortunate to be playing in the same time as Messi, otherwise he would get all the headlines rather than be chasing Messi's shadow.

I agree Messi has his flaws and his disappeared in some big games, but for that can be ignored when you're as good as Messi. Let's be real here, if Messi wins a WC, everyone would call him the greatest ever. Ronaldo does it, and he'd still be compared to Messi.

I never saw Maradona or Pele, but I can't imagine them being as good as Messi. He is perfection and plays like a maxed out FIFA player model lol :)))

Only footballer who will be able to surpass him is someone with the same ability + multiple individual awards, multiple international titles and club titles.

Ronaldo has the last three, but he isn't in the same stratosphere when it comes to ability.

These are moronic arguments, in that case Umar Akmal must be a better Test player then Younis Khan :))) You're right Mess is in another stratosphere altogether, the stratosphere of choke, mental weakness and all style but no substance to prove his greatness besides a couple of moments of magic which in the grand scheme are meaningless given his soft goal scoring record and inability to deal with pressure.

So you can try to convince me that he's a legend based on superficial nonsense but you'll always fail. Messi is the Shahid Afridi of football and the logic you are spewing explains that you know nothing of football being someone who started watching a few years ago and switched allegiance to a rival club; you can't be taken seriously.

Messi is officially the Hashim Amla of Football. Great to watch, amazing stats but always goes missing when it matters. :amla

Nothing to prove.

Ronaldo could score 100 goals in a game, win a WC, 10 Ballon d'ors and still the majority will be with Messi :messi

It's Ronaldo fans trying to compare Ronaldo to Messi, there is no debate for everyone else.

The majority see Messi as vastly superior.

It's embarrassing that after changing his whole style to poaching that Messi is capable of matching, if not beating Ronaldo's goal tally. Greatest goal scorer ever, I don't even know if you can give that him.

Messi might be the greatest ever and the greatest goal scorer ever :messi

91. Remember that number.

Messi should play as a forward for the next 2 seasons and erase Ron from the history books.

Ronaldo's peak was higher and better

They are getting desperate now so have resorted to superficial garbage :)), they've been saying things like Ronaldo can score all the goals in important games and even win a WC but Messi is still the best :))) how can anyone take such footy fans seriously that is embarrassing, man I doubt the real Barca fans would even want that guy to support their team

Ronaldo two hat tricks in a row against Bayern and Atletico in the knockout stages. He delivered, made up for his poor season overall. Real Madrid acknowledged that he was declining and built the perfect team that would be able to elevate his strengths after he lost his pace and dribbling ability. They did a fantastic job of it as well.

Including 2 offside goals too. But fair enough, even though I think Messi's overall output is better.

Messi's only goal in the Ko stages (in 4 games) is a penalty. There's been a gulf in difference between the two during the Championship rounds.

Messi made some really good chances for Iniesta and Suarez against Juventus which really should have been converted and he was quality against PSG in the second leg. But yes when it comes to scoring goals Ronaldo has obviously done better however he plays as a LW who drifts into the central striker position while Messi plays as a RAM which is a much deeper position.

Barca need to get Messi back further up front IMO and get back to having a world class MF so he doesn't need to drop deep.

Important summer for them.

Lets respect both players guys. What an era we are living in.

My tribute to Messi

Agreed, they also need to get a top RB again, Dani Alves was ripping apart Monaco while Barcelona have converted a midfielder in Sergi Roberto to a RB. I think they should look a bit outside of the box, maybe go for someone like Eriksen (most assists in Europe) and Aurier (arguably the best young RB).

Super complilation, only after he retires will people realise how great this genius is. A truly insane achievement to be the best goalscorer, dribbler and play maker in the world all at once.

People realize and acknowledge Messi's legacy as the most completed and gifted attacker in history of the sport. Only bitter Madrid fans and Ronaldo fan-boys from his United days think otherwise. Any serious individual who watches and understands the sport will acknowledge that although Ronaldo is terrific, he is not as good as Messi.

Chokessi is great for aesthetics much like Umar Akmal but it is beyond moronic to suggest there is anything more besides scoring soft goals, jobbing out in internationals and choking under pressure. Serious football fans can see this, but Messi fans never will; they will forever cling on to him looking the part out of desperation.
