Let me start with how much I appreciated Misbah the captain -- He took over when Pakistan cricket was in the doldrums after the spot fixing saaga and he brought stability, quality, and respect back to our team. So I did have high hopes when he consolidated power as coach and cheif selector in 2019.
But as coach / cheif selector, some of his selections were very...curious... He brought back Akmal and Ahmad Shezad to the team. On top of that, he introduced very average players like Mohammad Musa, Khushdil Shah and Kashif Bhatti.
But apart from his less-than-average selection skills, our rankings dwindled under his leadership. When he started his tenure, we were ranked the #1 T20 side in the world. After he resigned, we were #7. Under his tenure, (exlcuding matches against Zimbabwe,) we lost more tests and T-20's than we won. We also won 4 and lost 4 ODI's.
To his credity, he brought Rizwan into the fold. Rizwan has been incredible, but I argue that Misbah did more harm than good as coach / selector.
I'm sure Misbah means well. He has always put his heart and soul into everything he does. I also agree with him on a philosophical level that it is nice to have local coaches and that we should have a high profile full time coach. But I just don't think our local coaches are good enough just yet. The bottom line is that Under Mickey's leadership, Paksitan cricket flourished, and under Misbah's leadership, it dwindled. It would be a shame if Mickey is ousted.
